Gravetye Manor

"This quintessential country house is surrounded by 35 acres of glorious gardens; it was, after all, once home to pioneering gardener William Robinson. Ornate ceilings and fireplaces feature in beautiful lounges, while the restaurant sits within a striking contemporary extension. The kitchen garden provides the restaurant’s heartbeat and Chef George Blogg knows how to get the best out of it. Carefully executed, measured dishes appeal to both the taste buds and the eyes, with their assured flavours and colourful presentation." - Michelin Inspector

We haven't visited Gravetye Manor for some years, which has been a mistake. We visited this time for lunch. Which quite frankly was superb. In 2018 a new dinning room was opened mainly constructed of glass offering fabulous views of the beautiful gardens. From the moment you arrive the staff are happy and helpful. The reception rooms are still part of the original building, complete with log fires ( perfect in the winter ) The service in the restaurant was spot on, always attentive but not intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious. There were 6 of us and every plate was pretty much licked clean. The portion size was perfect. However to help burn off some of the extra calories I would recommend a walk round the gardens and kitchen garden ( they do supply wellingtons. We certainly won't be leaving so long to revisit. Highly recommend. You must book well in advance. There's ample parking. Excellent.

An ideal country house experience. The staff are very friendly and this adds to the relaxed and luxurious atmosphere. |Dinner was absolutely superb. The chef is an artist. Also they have created a delightful modern space to dine in.|Likewise breakfast is a delight.|It was foggy and cold the night we stayed which added to the getaway indulgent experience |Maybe return in Spring or Summer

Here for a private dining room lunch with family, ages ranging from teens to 70+ and the everything about the day was spot on.|Canapes and fizz outside on the terrace made for an excellent start and the lunch itself was superb. The menu obviously changes but the Dorset crab and Sussex lamb were real highlights. |More the the food and surroundings though, what I enjoy about Gravetye is the fact that it's understated and unpretentious. It's good and knows it's good but doesn't have to make the point. Attentive but unobtrusive service, stylish but unfussy and friendly staff.|Not cheap but worth very penny (especially if someone else is paying).

We first visited two years ago and just couldn't stay away. In addition to Glenapp Castle, this is by far the best Relais & Chateaux hotel we've stayed in (and we've been to many). The food is phenomenal, the grounds and local walks are peaceful, the rooms are cozy and relaxing, and the staff leave no detail unattended to. We're looking forward to returning. They are also always very accommodating to me with my assistance dog.

Exceedingly tasty creative food, don't be fooled by the 3 course sample menu it's much more than that with amuse touches, pre deserts and other tasty little dishes that add to the meal wonderfully. Excellent wine and cocktails enhance a superlative dining experience in a beautiful old house with amazing gardens. Attentive and polite staff cap it off as a great place for a truly special meal. Pricy it may be but you'll not forget it.

My wife and I booked an evening dinner and we were not disappointed. From parking in the car park to leaving, the service was top notch. The meal was one of the best we have eaten. This has to be the hidden gem in Sussex. We will be back.

I have decided that outside of London, this is my favourite location to eat and relax.|We had Lunch again yesterday, and it was superb. The souffle' was heavenly ,as was the brioche ,the like of which has never been bettered in my book.|All the staff are wonderful, but special mention should be made of the Doormen, who are so kind and obliging, and Alison, who has been there all the years we have been going. A gem.|It is perfect for a low key celebration, and has real style and ambience in an understated way. So many places have now resorted to a sort of excess in decoration and glitz which is vulgar ,and pretentious, and is prompted only by the money.|How refreshing this has not been embraced by Gravetye Manor. We shall return.

Absolutely glorious lunch. The restaurant with glass walls overlooking the kitchen garden is the most glorious setting for a relaxed but attentive dining experience. The menu showcases plenty of home-grown and local produce, without being held hostage to the concept. The cooking is refined but un-fussy, and well-executed throughout.
