Google
Order at the register restaurant, with southern style food. The pulled pork was delicious, but get there on the earlier side, as they can sell out. A lovely experience!

Google
We had a BLT and Cool Ranch Chicken sandwich. Did not ever think I had to come to Vashon from Houston to have one of the best BLTs ever.

Google
Not worth the hype at all. Awful customer service. Owner is hella rude. No hospitality whatsoever. Over priced food. They burnt my food when they warmed it up. The “salad” was a bed of lettuce. I highly not recommend this place. Didn’t even check on us.

Mark Melsness

Google
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!! They have the best sandwiches with a few options. We got the brisket and rye and it knocked our socks off. Cozy place with great service and awesome atmosphere. Oh, ya the potato chips are killer! Make sure you at least two bags, one just isn't enough. We will definitely be back.

Just had a delightful dinner here for a private event! The salad greens were tasty and definitely not run-of-the-mill salad. The paella was also well seasoned and really good!

Kimberly Pham

Google
The one thing I liked about this place is they have outdoor seating. Their couscous pea salad is very delicious. Everything else was good but oh my very fatty and extremely greasy. I haven't had a meal that unhealthy in a very long time. If you like fatty and greasy then this is your spot!

Steve Hiday

Google
Great food here! I had a world-class fried chicken sandwich (daily lunch special) with a nice glass of wine. Lots of other great items on the menu as well. Pets allowed on the patio! Try parking in back; street parking is a little crazy here on weekends. Olympic Otter

Google
Friendly staff, amazing food! I was waffling between the fried shrimp sandwich and the smoked briskest Rueben. She said they’re the best items on the menu. The chef looked over and told me to go with the shrimp. How could I say no? It was incredible! The lightly fried shrimp was sweet and juicy, the slaw and aioli gave some extra texture and flavor, and the bun held everything together well. Yum! Will have to go back and order both the brisket Rueben and the shrimp sandwich next time. Why not both?

Yelp
outstandingly fresh food with fantastic flavors ! a simple dish of snap peas with light dressing made me swoon ! chicken sammy super tastey too focus is on food, this is not a bougey bullsh** sit down. will be back again and again

Yelp
Food was great, once it finally showed up. It took 45 minutes after the rest of my table was served, and multiple inquiries, to finally get my meal. I recognize that it was a busy service, but this is outrageous in any context. The lack of any recognition by management was the cherry on top of a disheartening experience. I might try again, I might not. Disappointing for what is supposed to be the best restaurant in our small town.

Siamen M.

Yelp
Nice spot on the island. We brought our dog with us for troll hunting. We spotted this place. Dog friendly in the back of the story. Inside it's a bar rustic look with cute bathroom. We were late for lunch, but luckily I was got the last smoke brisket Reuben or I wouldn't know how awesome and write this review. It is so fulfilling. Good portion. We also had the salt and pepper shrimp burger. No bad and lots of shrimps also. I would suggest provide some sides like fries or coleslaw, then I will say they are perfect.

Yelp
Upon arriving at Gravy for Saturday brunch, we placed our order at the front register. I opted for a Brisket Sandwich and sipped water as drinks were not offered. The wait was longer than usual, with no updates until the food arrived. The sandwich, though appetizing, turned out to be piping hot from melted butter and cheese, leading to a burnt mouth. Service lacked attentiveness, as we were not checked on for napkins or refills. The Brisket was flavorful but poorly served. Payment, including tip, is required upfront, a practice I found questionable. Overall, I rate the experience 2 stars due to the subpar service and unwelcoming atmosphere.

David Adam E.

Yelp
Lovely people, beautiful space, and I am here to tell you that the smoked brisket was hands down - Hands. Down. - the best brisket I have ever put in my mouth.

Jan F.

Yelp
Gravy is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the host made us feel like old friends with a warm and welcoming attitude. I ordered the catfish sandwich, which was piled high with fresh catfish and included coleslaw--delicious! My friends had the BLT, and they were equally impressed. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and had a comfortable atmosphere. The service was just as amazing as the food. I'm definitely coming back!

Maggie L.

Yelp
This place is open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I like the casual ambience with high quality food. The food is delicious, and the people and service even better. I had a hard time making a decision of what sandwich to get. The cashier told me some customer claimed the Ruben Sandwich (one of my top 3 fav sandwiches) is the best they've ever tried. But I walked in craving fried chicken, so I went with Fried Chicken Sandwich, $17 and comes with a bag of fresh chips. The fried chicken was big, crispy and juicy. It was so good (also piping hot) I burnt my mouth but kept eating Xp. I also love the options for appetizers and side dishes on display. The Chef was nice enough to give me a slice of Banana Fudge Cake to try. I had it with ice cream when I get home, it's very banana-y, but in a good (not artificial) way. I can't wait to come back and try the Ruben!

Emily A.

Yelp
Delicious! I'm from North Carolina so I've got high standards for a tomato sandwich and this one was tasty as hell--fresh ingredients, generous portion, an all around wonderful meal. And staff were all so kind and friendly!

Rick L.

Yelp
On a very hot day my wife and I visited Gravy aka Salt & Schmaltz. Eating there had been one of our main objectives in visiting Vashon. We opted to sit in the back patio where a slight breeze made it more comfortable than eating inside. It wasn't busy (although we noticed that that had changed a bit when we were leaving) and we had our just about all the tables. The staff and the owners were very welcoming. I ordered the Smoked Brisket Reuben sandwich and my wife ordered the Smoked Turkey sandwich. They both came with housemade potato chips. Both orders were delivered to our table pretty quickly. They were both very hot and I actually had to bite on my sandwich carefully so as not to burn my mouth or my hands while holding it. Both were big sandwiches so you really got your money's worth. . There was more house smoked brisket on my sandwich than I've gotten anywhere else. The tops of gruyere, kraut and Russian dressing were great as was the bread. I shouldn't have eaten the entire thing but I did. My only quibble was that I would've like to have tasted more smoky flavors, but I've rarely had smoked food in restaurants that safisty me like the smoked meats I turn out on my own electric smoker. My wife greatly enjoyed her house smoked turkey sandwich which came with bacon, greens, roasted tomatoes, and Havarti. With that one she had her choice of either cold turkey or hot pressed. She wished she'd chosen cold because she missed the texture and fresh flavor of the turkey as a contrast to the hot sandwich. She took half her sandwich with her. The owners seemed to be good people presenting great food. We'd go back to try some other menu items if we decide return to Vashon.

Semira M.

Yelp
This is such a great place and a must if you are going to Vashon. I got the Goat melt and it was incredible, so good that we decided to come back for dinner when they opened back up! The staff is so kind and generous, and made every person feel so welcomed and at home. Can't wait to visit Vashon again, as this is now one of our favorite places for a great meal and amazing service!

Lynne P.

Yelp
Gravy has something different on the menu all the time. The food is unique and delicious. I had molasses cookies and the old time recipe made me think of my mom. The 18 hour cooked brisket was the base of the Reuben sandwiches. Absolutely Divinely cooked. I had Cinderella pumpkin curry soup that was delicious. The owners, cooks and servers are friendly and engaging. This is a must stop for one of the best chefs I have ever had the pleasure of dining at their restaurant. The owner Dray is a super nice guy. The atmosphere is sheik upscale clean restaurant. Must stop on Vashon island in the heart of downtown. One cool thing to share about the owner Dray, as a curious gardener I was asking about what this unusual vegetable was in his counter. the owner gave me a piece of a vegetable called a pink banana squash he was getting ready to prepare after I asked him what the vegetable was. Now I was able to prepare the vegetable myself and have some seeds to try and grow the vegetable myself. What a kind gesture. I really treasure this restaurant very much.

Yelp
We ate lunch at Gravy while on our first visit to Vashon Island for the Vashon Choral Fest. We loved the casual vibe of the place; we could see the Chef preparing our selections. I had the best BLT ever!... prepared to perfection. Everyone there was friendly and gracious; Chef Dray came out to introduce himself and inquired how we liked our meal. We also met his wife Pepa, who was very personable. In all, we had a wonderful experience; the food was excellent and the service was great! I definitely recommend Gravy as a "go to" spot whenever you're on Vashon Island.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Food are good but a bit pricey. We ordered a salt and shrimp burger with garlic aioli and Smoked brisket Ruben . Sandwiches sizes are descent but with no sides. Place is clean and with backyard seating area for you to dine in with your pet. Service is prompt and good.

Alanah D.

Yelp
This restaurant is FABULOUS! This was my first time back on the island in a while and seeing the reviews for Gravy, I knew I just had to try it. It was not a disappointment! The staff are so kind, the atmosphere, the food everything was stellar! It was Strawberry Festival weekend, and the island was beginning to get back and yet the food was still timely, hot and just what we ordered, and more. The head chef and owner Dre Neely came over to greet us and give us a warm welcome. I can't wait to come back to see and taste more of the changing menu. The story behind the name, Gravy, was also nostalgic from my own childhood too. Highly recommend!

Ed H.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite. Lu had the tuna melt and I had the brisket Reuben. Yum! We ate out doors in the back patio. Food was great! We definitely would recommend Gravy when visiting Vashion Is.

Paul S.

Yelp
We had lunch and so pleasantly surprised by the food and the service. It was our first time at Gravy and had the best meatloaf sandwich I have ever had. My wife's fried chicken sandwich was also fabulous. Since fresh tomatoes are hard to find, the BLT had a tomato confit. Friendly, warm, inviting and delicious.

Debra B.

Yelp
Most delicious meal on the Island. Feels attentive even though some aspects are self serve. My go to restaurant for a changing and high quality menu.

Elie B.

Yelp
I was told to come for the roast chicken. The sign outside says -- roast chicken. Counter lady with pink hair tells me they have no chicken. She keeps going on about fried chicken. But they also have no fried chicken. They can apparently make me an $18 BLT.

Yuan Z.

Yelp
We ordered roasted vegetable, tuna melt sandwich and grilled cheese. Here's what I think: Food: 4.5/5 I felt everything was a bit too salty for my taste but otherwise great. Value for money: 3.5/5 a bit overpriced, e.g., $16 for a sandwich Service: 3.5/5 took a while to get our food, but overall the staff was friendly.

Tess R.

Yelp
Great food! And there's a garden area in back if you want to sit outside. Would have been 5 stars, but they use TOO MUCH PLASTIC! Sorry for the all caps, but really? Don't they know there's way too much plastic on the planet, clogging our rivers and oceans, and it's not going anywhere. They use plastic cups for beverages, plastic forks knives spoons, and they even buy potato chips in bulk then re-bag them into...you guessed it, plastic baggies. I understand it's hard to hire kitchen staff to wash dishes, but then buy enough washable supplies to get you through the lunch service and wash them when it slows down. Really loved the woman who is running the place, and the food was healthy & good quality. But what a waste to see all that plastic filling their garbage bins.

Josh E.

Yelp
Had the special which was a shrimp sandwich, one of the best sandwiches I have ever had and it rivaled a New Orleans shrimp Po Boy. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. My wife had the blt and was incredible as well, never had a blt with that much flavor and just damn is all I can say. Didn't even have time for a pic because the food had to get eaten immediately . Cool place, friendly staff, family friendly. Will come back often when we're on Vashon.

Kit G.

Yelp
Walking down the street decided to just walk in to gravy. So glad we did. You order at the counter , then find a table and they bring your food to. My friend ordered an oyster sandwich. It sounded good but I'm off bread so asked if I could have just the fried oysters, no bread. They offered on a bed of greens which was exactly what I wanted. These were without a doubt, the best fried oysters I've ever had, and at 71 that is saying a lot. And the greens were excellent with a great prickly may ketchup dressing. All in all a fantastic meal. Although there is a sign asking you to bus your own table, they came and bussed our table. A great place, excellent accommodating service, and for us, fantastic food. A bit of a gem.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Every place should have at least one item on the menu affordable to working class or poor people. Period.

Brittany H.

Yelp
The owners of this place are absolute gems... the food is excellent and it adds a missing element to the Vashon food community. Love it!

Kevin E.

Yelp
While waiting for our smoked brisket rueben we enjoyed watermelon salad and potato salad. Both were very good. The cherry tomatoes and pickled jicama paired wonderfully with the watermelon. I didn't taste much smoke in the brisket (which made my wife happy) and there was a little too much fat for my taste (perfect for hers). The bread was perfect, but I would have liked a stronger taste of dressing. I'll end on a positive- they did not skimp on the brisket. See the attached photo! So... 5 stars from my wife, 4 stars from me.

Dale D.

Yelp
We had no idea this place existed but was visiting Vashon Island for the 1st time and decided it was time to have some lunch. Wow, were we glad we did.

Kathryn Y.

Yelp
Wow! What an absolutely amazing find. A locality run deli/restaurant/store/ sandwiches amazing place ever!! While meandering around Vashon, we walked into this place and were immediately greeted with an outstanding smell. The service was excellent and all the food in the deli case is house made. The gentleman whose name I forget, answered all our questions about Vashon Island, shopping, living, etc. After walking around and drinking some beers across the street we decided to come back and support a local business. My friend was disappointed that all the lemon pie was gone. Tip: if you see it? Buy it!! It could be gone when you get back!! The sandwiches, so many choices. We got the high powered rueben, with homemade brisket. Like wth? Off the chain delicious!! Sandwiches come hot or cold. We chose hot. They gave us a few forks and picnic utensils to eat our sandwich later. The sandwich was outstanding!! Homemade brisket with sauerkraut and homemade thousand island. All on grilled sourdough and so good!! My only minor issue was, and it is minor, was the meat. I wish it would have been cubed for easier chewing. No biggie!! Still and amazingly tender and delicious!! Please support this business if you come here. Happy Yelping.

Yelp
The traditional restaurant no longer exists, it's more of a takeout/catering place. They do have seating if you want to eat there, but it's pretty confusing. You walk in and there is a menu listed of sandwiches, but they also have other specials (sometimes?) and it's not super clear where to order or what the options are. We got the special (fried chicken), one sandwich and a side and paid $60. It would have been great to be able to try more sides with the meal, but at $15 a plate it was not justifiable. Everything was good! But not mind blowing. Good for large groups to share a bunch of stuff.

Iqbal M.

Yelp
In Vashon for the day... or the weekend? You NEED to ride the Gravy train! While many things on the menu look appealing, the Brisket Reuben ($18) and the fried chicken ($15) were calling my name and they did not disappoint. I love reubens and to try their take on it with brisket left you wanting more. The brisket was soft and cooked well combined with their rye and sauerkraut brought joy to my belly. The fried chicken (gluten-free) order gets you half a chicken. This isn't your typical fried chicken. The flavor packed in every bite ensures there won't be any leftovers. Pro-tip: ask for a side of the Russian dressing that comes with the Reuben as a dip for the fried chicken. They were also grilling lamb burgers on the sidewalk with whipped feta which smelled AMAZING but we just weren't in the lamb mood today. They had a couple tables setup outside and two inside (4/17/21) so you could eat there but we decided to take our food a mile away to Dragonhead Cider!

Jana S.

Yelp
We had never been to Vashon Island before and what a great find! My family and I were visiting from Missouri and were fortunate enough to walk in the door of Gravy. We were met with a warm, vivacious welcome and an explanation of the food and how everything is made in house. We all had varying taste and everyone was happy! I loved the squash salad with burrata, while my husband ordered the omelet and ate every bite. My brother had the BLT with house made bread and crispy bacon. He ate every bite of the huge sandwich. The tuna melt. with white albacore tuna, was the best my daughter had ever eaten. The fried chicken sandwich is huge and would be great for a split. Make sure to order the hummus plate. They serve with roasted chickpeas and wonderful herb filled olive oil. I would eat there again for the hummus alone.

Terri K.

Yelp
Cherry on Top Mahalo to Chef Dre, Pepa & staff. Gravy is a sweet restaurant with indoor and patio seating. We demolished the fresh and flavorful fried chicken before we thought to take a picture (that's how good it was!) Winnah, winnah is the smoked brisket Ruben sandwich, which goes way beyond your traditional deli Reuben. The subtle smoke flavor pushes it over the top. Finish with the Joe Frogger cookies, a delicious rum spiked gingerbread, molasses cookie. We were so happy with the meal that we had to do a take home of baked Carbonara and the Gravy "Enchilada". This continues part II.

Rosa D.

Yelp
It's good, very home cooked type of feel. I'm not a huge fan of the seating but is a good place to also grab and go. The ordering system is kind of different too. Other wise great local place !

William S.

Yelp
This is a cute little restaurant for a casual dining experience or delicious takeout. We tried their incredible gluten-free fried half chicken. Literally finger-lickin'. Their brisket reuben was over the top; bright kraut with creamy gruyere. And last but certainly not least their incredibly fresh green salad.

Aaron F.

Yelp
Gravy was nasty. Woman at the register was quite short with my teenage son who asked for banana peppers on the side. The dish was called a Tuscan roast beef or some such...it was a sloppy Joe on a hamburger bun smothered in mayonnaise..and banana peppers on top of the mayo..Pour a cup of salt on there and call it Gravy!

Elliott F.

Yelp
Holy cow! This is it! This will be your favorite spot! It's on Vashon Island and definitely worth the short ferry ride just to eat here! The Brisket Ruben will change your life...smoked, tender and so freaking delicious! The fried chicken sandwich was crunchy, tender, moist and also delicious. Thank you Pepa and Dre, I love your food! Amazing food and the service was incredible!

David V.

Yelp
When I worked in Montgomery, Alabama in 1982-3, before moving to Vashon, my colleagues and I ate incredible fried chicken lunches in the home of a fabulous cook. Never had fried chicken that good till I moved back to Vashon not long ago and tried it at Gravy. Substantially crunchy, perfectly seasoned, juicy and delicious inside. Wow. I have felt obliged to go back regularly now to confirm that it was so good. And then, on the way out last time, I looked again at the stuffed cabbage... My Aunt Frances' stuffed cabbage defined the essence of comfort food for me. It made me feel warm, satisfied and happy. Unfortunately, comparable stuffed cabbage is incredibly hard to find, so after many disappointing experiences, I hardly even try it anymore. But I picked up a couple to go at Gravy and heated one up in the oven (one is a nice small meal). OMG. It even had a little kick to it. I look forward to savoring the discovery of other items on this menu.

Project Pat H.

Yelp
What's good baby Project Pat out here on a Saturday. Check it out- probably one of the best lunches I've had ever. Fried shrimp sandwich, eggplant sandwich, and lox. Good ass potato salad. This place stays trill and knows what's good. All y'all haters can take the ferry off the island. 5 stars.

Johnathon C.

Yelp
BOMB! I couldn't even finish the whole sandwich. The chicken salad inside was soft and packed with flavor, the bread was crispy and warm.

Alison C.

Yelp
For those of you who are familiar with the phrase "It's all gravy!"-- this restaurant couldn't be further from being gravy. Ironic, I know. My girlfriends and I arrived on a Sunday morning from Seattle, excited for a low-key weekend island outing, and found our way here for brunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the cute decor when we walked in and unpleasantly surprised by the rather limited brunch menu. Not a whole lot of options and, sadly, no gravy to be seen on any of the items. I ended up getting a mushroom omelet and it was greasy, flavorless, and way overpriced at $15. There were some juicy pieces of mushroom in there but that's about all I can say as far as positive things go. Sure, there was a side salad, but the flavors were just so disjointed and off putting with the omelet. I asked our server for some salt and pepper, desperately hoping to improve my plate by the slightest, and it never came. For an additional $45, the rest of our party ordered the following: another omelet, a burger, coffee, and tea. So expensive, so mediocre, and so not worth the splurge... even if it is brunch with the girlfriends!

Ben T.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! The food is delicious, to the point that things usually sell out. The fried chicken is always on point. When we are walking in town on the weekends there is usually a lovely smell coming out that attracts us--last time it was the pumpkin spice chicken wings. We always end up ordering dessert because they are so good. We are so glad to have this wonderful place here on Vashon!

Blanca B.

Yelp
This place was ABSOLUTELY delicious! The staff was friendly and welcoming. The red grapefruit mimosas were delicious. The location is perfectly place off the main road in Vashon. Great place for brunch! I will definitely go back when I'm back on the island.

Moshi M.

Yelp
Ambience. B Service. A Food. B+ Price. B Found on main strip in small downtown Vashon (what??? 4 blocks). This place has changeover many times, but Gravy has lasted over several years. Rustic, calm , open cafe style atmosphere. Back area seating for outdoor eating. Street parking. Hostess and servers were swift and friendly. Helpful in describing menu items. and making recommendations. I've heard of the "trifecta". Burger. Mixture of 1/3 of sirloin, duck breast and smoke ham hock! Nice, smoky and moist well done patty on grilled brioche bun with a house-made shallot sauce. I'd order again! Delicious. And definitely popular! My friend had the fried chicken. It was crispy skin and moist breast. However, thought the batter needed more seasoning and the skin tasted a little burnt or old oil! This is a nice restaurant for Vashon. I'm a fan and will be back.

Arthur R.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Saturday I had the trifecta burger and my partner got the chicken sandwich. Hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had would come back to Vashon for this alone.

Brodrick J.

Yelp
Honestly went here and tried to get a time to eat and they were closed due to Covid and only open for certain times. The man that met us greeted us with chips and gave my girlfriend flowers and me chips and a bottle of wine, there is not doubt in my mind a restaurant ran like that will succeed. I look forward to coming back to the island and visiting this place.

MaryLisa N.

Yelp
Wonderful service on their lovely garden patio. The roasted beet salad with walnut butter and orange slices was delicious. My entree was the Muscovy duck breast with a grilled radicchio on a herbed polenta! Hubby had the fettuccine carbonara with large shrimp! I have now found my favorite dishes! Please follow with their flourless chocolate cake and French press coffee. Such a wonderful meal! Thank you

Camille H.

Yelp
The food was amazing, the owner and staff were so welcoming. Great vibes and great energy! We'll be back!

Katie S.

Yelp
We came in on a Friday evening and the place was about halfway full. However, not long into our meal there was a line out the door. Our waitress was really lovely and the food was great. I had the fried chicken with melon salad and loved every bite. My only complaint is we had a group of five and instead of pushing a four seat table and a two seat table together, they stuck a fifth chair awkwardly at the end of a four seat table. There were tables empty when we arrived that would have made creating a six seat table possible, but instead the person in the fifth seat had to awkwardly sit at the table with little room to eat their meal.

Kim B.

Yelp
Salt and pepper fried shrimp sandwiches are to die for! Tons of deli salad and soup options also. We tried the butternut squash soup and shrimp and avocado salad. So delicious! Highly recommend for lunch if you are in Vashon Island!

Victoria G.

Yelp
Great menu with some specialties. Perhaps a little overpriced and felt more like a special occasion meal rather than regular dinner or lunch. Regardless, very nice service, ambiance and food.
