Gray's Coors Tavern in Pueblo, CO, is highly recommended for its delicious slopper. This local and sporty restaurant has an old-school feel and is considered one of the best places to try this Pueblo classic.

Google
First time in! Was told about this place so many times from family. They said “best slopper in Colorado!!” So we went. Our waitress was super sweet. My daughter who never had a slopper before asked some questions and our lovely waitress answered all of them & said there’s a lil surprise at the end..!! Our food came out and hot, fresh & delicious. . Now all of a sudden this bell starts going off and they were yelling out my daughter’s name and saying she’s having her first slopper! Everyone was yelling and clapping accept the chief who was “booing” a child. Like who does that?! Especially in a business as a customer. Definitely gave us a bad first time impression. Everything else was perfect! He was not. So I give 4 stars because that’s just rude. I’ve added the photo of Mr. Rude pants.

The bestie best food ever. Gray’s Coors Tavern has the best slopper + amazing tacos on white. Please, for the love of everything ever, stop in and have a bite.

Google
Beautiful Spring day to stop in and try this place. We've heard about the famous slopper since moving here ... and it did not disappoint. Loved this little tavern, everything from the food to the service and the cute little outdoor dining patio. Husband had the slopper and said it was the best one he has had since moving back six months ago. I see some people complain about the fries but they were fantastic! It's hard to find a fry that is crispy on the outside without being overcooked. We didn't get them smothered but maybe next time. I had the BLT and onion rings. I'm really picky about onion rings (I prefer batter over breaded) and these hit the mark. Crispy and fluffy served with a ranch dip. Everything was tasty and priced well. Servers were very attentive making sure you had whatever you needed. Will definitely come back, many menu items left to try!

Google
Great food. I would come back. Chilli could use more heat in my opinion, but it was still delicious.

Tried their Chicken Fried Steak today. Yummy 😋

Google
Service...well there was no Service. We sat at the bar. We were just going to order drinks. No one... not a single person acknowledged our presence or said a word. Waited 12 minutes. Same people just walked by us. I was sitting in front of the beet tap. Three beers were poured while we waited. Nothing.. this was a spot we always stop at. Not anymore. Guess they don't need our business!

Google
The Slopper is all I can say. We came here after a softball tournament and the atmosphere when you first walk in is great. Feels like a hole in the wall grab a beer after a long day of work or play. The food is great! The Slopper is one of the best! The Green Chili is fantastic and the Fries are also outstanding. We also got the Steely Cheese Steak and is also outstanding.

Yelp
Awesome historical tavern we found haphazardly while meandering to Wyoming and So Dakota. Loved the vibe and the service was great, attentive waiter. Ordered cheeseburger with green chilies. Honestly rivaled some favorites in Texas!

Yelp
I always want to like this place a lot more than I do. What's not to love? An old established local business, an iconic menu item. But then..... you get seated. I've gone a few times a year and then swear I'm not going back. Until I do. I was in on a Sunday afternoon. The barbacks and bussers hustle. Everyone else seems to be standing around. I was seated at the bar, a menu was thrown at me and no one ever took my drink order. People walked by but seemed to try as hard as they could to ignore me. They seem to have a "system" where no one is responsible for a section, so you may have one person take your order another person bring the food and maybe no one will really want to take your payment. Service is SLOW and the food coming out is not much better. This time, the place was slow. There were 5 table inside, a couple outside, I was the only one at the bar. I kept counting and recounting the staff. Couple of bussers, a manager, couple people in the kitchen and maybe 5 servers. For 7 tables and a single at the bar. I waited 15 minutes with no one acknowledging me, except for the manager who "seated" me at the bar. I finally walked out. I'm so sad Gray's Tavern, I really do want to like you.

Yelp
This place was weird for me. We got quite a few things off the menu. I tried their Mexican food & it was lack luster/greasy. My partner on the other hand got a slopper & loved it. The sopapillas were phenomenal, I wish I had had more room to finish them! And the fried pickles were pretty good too. Our server was nice, but everyone was walking around like they were hung over or high, which wouldn't have bothered me if the food hit, but it was meh for me. I also found it weird they only served their Mexican items sometimes?? According to the menu anyways. We didn't try any drinks though, so maybe that's where they get ya

Yelp
Passing through Pueblo, I had to have a slopper. I did, and it was wonderful. The flies not so much.
google avatar

Yelp
Great experience and history. The skipper is very good and the steel city sausage on bun is very good. I would suggest easy on tbe mustard and heavy on the green sauce on the bun. Order fries with everything. It's a dive bar with friendly staff.

Yelp
What's not to love. A must in Pueblo, a Slopper and a frosty schooner of Coors. Great place to relax and fill up.

Johnd M.

Yelp
If your craving a green chili slopper save your money. The food, service I grew up with is Gone. Watered down green chili with sour cheese plus burned hamburger patties. Here is a tip 86 the sports gear.... nobody cares.

Yelp
A Pueblo iconic place. As you enter the building, you can see the bar that stretches from one side of the building to the other. They have wonderful sports and Pueblo memorabilia throughout the restaurant and above the bar. The ancient booths feel like they've been there since the original restaurant opening in the 30s. Love all the pictures and signed memorabilia around the tables and know each one must have a story. The frosty scooners are ice cold and stay cold throughout the meal. When in Rome, so we ordered Coors Lights while we looked over the meals. Since this place known for their sloppers, I went with the regular meal which include their award winning green chili over a double cheeseburger. If you order your slopper with fries, they come on top of the slopper. We ordered a side of onion rings which were perfectly cooked. I love this place and the friendly faces. This may be my yearly must stop location.

Yelp
Second year we traveled to Pueblo for a birthday slopper! Just like last year, the staff was amazing! Friendly and treated us like family. We realized last year that we over ordered and were stuffed. So we split the regular slopper and had sides of fresh chopped white onion and grilled onions. We again opted for the green chile and the food was just as awesome as last year. We added the fries on top and again were not disappointed! Burger Patty was perfectly grilled! A+ to the team! We also ordered a pitcher of beer and enjoyed sitting inside and enjoying the history of the locale! Next time we will sit outside! So much fun and great food!

Yelp
So much history in this building, home of the original slopper, and ridiculous (in the best way) prices -- especially if you go at happy hour. This is a must see/eat Pueblo landmark!
google avatar

Yelp
Well let me start off by saying I've missed Pueblo green chili so much! I have not been home in four years and you better believe I was not going back to Cali without stopping by Gray's for a slopper! I have been coming to Gray's since Donny was known as Mr.Gray and my 3rd grade teacher. And... they still make the best slopper and green chili west of the Mississippi! The service has not changed it's still amazing as ever. The staff is so awesome, my drink was never empty and you better believe that's a big one in my book. I was so glad to see the place didn't change either. The booths still look the same and all the pictures are still on the walls along with all the local high school memorabilia... just amazing. Bottomline is don't even think about visiting Pueblo without stopping by Gray's because they were and always will be the best place to get a slopper.

Yelp
First time in Pueblo and word on the street was that I had to try a 'Slopper'. So after getting several recommendations at great spots to enjoy one we landed at Gray's. Felt very welcome during our visit as we got a booth quick and our waiter was on top of his game with drinks fast, knowledge of the menu etc... In the Western NY area a 'Slopper' is a tad bit like Rochester's garbage plate. My view of the Slopper is a cheeseburger with green/pork chili poured over the top. I added chopped onions and fries on top which was available as an add/on in the menu. I could not have been more satisfied with my first try! Try the fried pickles appetizer as well! Inside was rustic, but very cool as well with plenty of wall hangings etc... Was looking for a shirt to buy there but all their souvenir merchandise was SOLD OUT! No stars taken off for that, but obviously it's in demand for visitors to take home.

Yelp
This place is a Pueblo fav! I had the "chili slopper". Since the last time I was there, they have added "outdoor" seating. Service was good and as always, the place was crowded. This is more of a "man" place than a "lady" place. The man I was with made this choice. lol This would not be my "first" choice place, but fun every now and then.

Marnie L.

Yelp
Got a slopper. Burger and bun burnt, hardly any green chile. Fries burnt. The service was great but I won't go back. Not for $12.50 for a one-patty slopper, an extra $3.50 for fries, and $3.74 for a soda.

Honest Abe P.

Yelp
I am honest as always. I ordered a double slopper. I was asked if I wanted fries I stated yes (separate order). I requested chili and cheese be placed on the fries also. What I received was a double slopper with MAYBE 10 fries in my slopper dish. I understand times are tough and they might have to cut corners to combine two orders in one order to give you less chili and cheese for the money (it was a separate order) I don't believe this is the proper way to do things, if you would only verbalize this is how they do it. When I questioned it I was told the cook said he gave a lot of fries ?? Not even 10 fries in my original order is not worth ordering. The picture will say it all. Get clarification I failed to do so. They were not happy I asked‍

Yelp
Welp it was 100 in pueblo. Maybe 125 on the street. Stopped in at Grays and It was nice and cool in there. All the bar ladies looked pissed off. They were doing the look irritated so people think your busy routine. Finally the bar guy came over so I ordered the Slopper. The flavor was great and the value was ok. ( throw a few fries on it - i don't need the whole order ). Over all pretty good. I would return. Good place to watch sports. Definitely feels like you are in Pueblo back in the day. Its dark and barry.
google avatar

Erica M.

Yelp
Original slopper and they kill it every time. Anytime I'm in town, it's a must eat. Friendly staff, welcoming environment and authentic small town culture. Try the slopper and the chips and salsa.
google avatar

Tamara N.

Yelp
In my opinion this is the best Slopper in Pueblo! I have even used their food trucks at events because they are so awesome! If you want a true Slopper in a wonderful neighborhood feeling bar, this is the place! They also make a some killer drinks!

Anna C.

Yelp
i'm from Kansas City, Missouri. my boyfriend and I came for the holidays to visit Pueblo, Colorado and I heard that this place was supposed to be the best in town to order a slopper. when the guy brought the plate out, I thought he was bringing me soup. The meat was hard and there was no taste to the green chili. It actually looked like pink throw up. I was very disappointed. I was expecting something completely different. I will say, though that the service was great and waiters & waitresses were very pleasant and we're working hard together.

C L.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Extensive menu. Delicious Double cheeseburger and fries. Cold, cold beer YUMMY!
google avatar

Jinyen C.

Yelp
We came here for the Christmas style Double Sloppers! Christmas style meaning one side with red chili and the other was green chili! Double meaning 4 beef Pattie's with the buns drowned in chili YUM!!! Fries, hand cut style, were good! We also ordered the churros which were fresh and good. The sopapillas were hard to love because we've had really really fresh ones in Santa Fe. Fried pickles were awesome! Sliced is the way to go! I hate fried spears haha! BUT I would still eat it if given! Place was big! Lots of space for a group with outdoor seating. Note: booths were on the smaller side. Lots of decorations and charm to the place for sure! There was also a bar set up so you can have your drink and eat there too!
google avatar

Ron G.

Yelp
Such a treat to visit and eat a good Slopper. Always very tasty and consistently good!!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I found this restaurant using Yelp and as soon as I saw the reviews I knew my husband had to try the Slopper! We stopped in late the afternoon and everything was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and the food was fantastic. Unfortunately we live across the country so we probably won't be back soon.
google avatar

Thom S.

Yelp
A local downtown family owned and operated business, but hard seats, leather burgers, and country music = your place? First time ever seen booths with hard flat seats (a few padded chairs in front and maybe at bar). However, excellent margaritas, fast kitchen service, exceptional wait service from Kara and others, removed plates and glasses as soon as finished. Despite menu disclaimers cooks will not prepare medium rare burgers. Nachos order is large, but hard chewy tasteless tortilla chips with extremely salty sauce. Too noisy to sit near kitchen. Restaurant is clean with slightly dated restrooms but decent and also clean. Prices are a buck or two less than other eateries. Notwithstanding my comments this is a very popular and busy place.

Jeanne M.

Yelp
They used to be great, but now charge extra for everything to complete a meal. Fries are extra for shoppers. They are frozen crappy fries. Will not be going back

Bonnie R.

Yelp
Great outdoor space, friendly servers & cold drinks! Double cheeseburger with green chili on side was excellent!
google avatar

Kenneth M.

Yelp
Hands down the best slopper in town! Great service and good people. Pueblo staple that everyone needs to experience.
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
Whenever I am in Pueblo from the Springs, this is a mandatory stop. The Slopper is awesome and always get it with grilled onions and fries while washing it down with a ice cold coors light. Great staff, excellent prices, and food is awesome! What's not to love?
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
The best and only slopper I've ever eaten! The half-slopper was plenty of food for me, with green chili (orangey) and onions slopped on top of a 3-ounce burger patty, slice of American cheese, and an open-faced bun. It doesn't look fancy at all but is really good! Recommendation: order fries on the side and dip them into the slopper chili. The fries are soft. Since no one's really heard of the slopper outside of Pueblo, it's pretty amusing when you tell your out-of-town friends what you ordered for lunch/dinner that day. The tavern itself is pretty old-school, with a cool "Coors Tavern" logo etched into the mirrors behind the bar, tons of tables, pictures and memorabilia on the walls, and seats at the bar.
google avatar

N D.

Yelp
Good ambiance and friendly staff. It can get busy at times. Definitely have to get the slopper. I also had the Runyon Field SOB and it was good but the slopper was where's it at. I'll be back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
Some of the best food I have had staying in Pueblo. It is what small family owned businesses should be. They even got me to try a chili margarita. I dont like margaritas but this was amazing.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Hey I think the Slopper is worth it for my first visit, the green Chili was good as the topper with cheese and onions. The draft beer was cold and satisfying. The Slopper is the signature dish for the Tavern. There are probably other good dishes.

Meg T.

Yelp
This place is my all time favorite place to go and get a slopper in fact this is where I tried a slopper for the first time with my dad and it is an absolutely memorable place, whether your sitting at the bar enjoying a cold beer or sitting at a table/booth to enjoy a meal with the family, this is one of those places that just fits in our town and would feel weird or extremely missed if it wasn't apart of Pueblo it's part of our home town

Andrew A.

Yelp
Excellent green chili slopper, one of the better ones in Pueblo. Fried pickles are very tasty. Nice atmosphere and beer on tap. Prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Margaret D.

Yelp
Burgers are decent, wish they offered regular dill pickles instead of the sweet relish. I'd skip the tacos. BF usually gets the slopper.

Lynne H.

Yelp
The odor has been fixed!!! Best sloppers and mexican pizza anywhere. The cold beer isn't either!
google avatar

Tuan N.

Yelp
Okay. Just okay. Typical tavern, beer was okay, and the slopper experience was okay. Reminded me a lot of the Cincinnati chili experience. I must have eaten it incorrectly or not the Puebloan way. Fried pickles were good, but other than that...nothing more for me to talk about regarding their food. Parking lot had ample space. Environment was "sticky" and dark. Staff was friendly. With a buddy or coworker this would be an okay place to eat. Family...no. Seek elsewhere for the slopper. I will likely try the slopper again elsewhere to get a better comparison if it was just theirs or the way I ate it.

B A.

Yelp
It is worth a stop but nothing out of the ordinary here if you have eaten lots of green chile. The green chile is good but it is too tame. It is pretty overpriced for a divey atmosphere at about $20 for a slopper with fries, no drink, including 20% tip. The fries are homemade but quickly lose their crisp when smothered so why bother eating something fried then? It is best to order them on the side. The service was very prompt and welcoming. The cleanliness of the facility is questionable but that is part of the divey charm for some. We would likely try another place in town when we return to the area.
google avatar

Cassie Y.

Yelp
Cute old tavern bar. Had the Coors light and Coors banquet on draught of course. Then I had the taco salad and my partner had the slopper. Both did not disappoint. The salad was very hearty with refried beans and grilled chicken. Nice patio where we could bring the dog. Will definitely be going back

Angelina S.

Yelp
I ordered a slopper, it was great! It was our first time in and we will be back! Our server was very friendly!
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
Love this place. Always quick and friendly service and amazing food for fair prices. It's rare that a place like this is just as good a restaurant as a bar, but Gray's knocks it out of the park in both categories. There's a reason they have been open for so long.

Prestine M.

Yelp
This old school bar is amazing to visit. The bar holds so much history on its walls. The hamburgers are so tasty. The wait staff are very friendly.

Craig M.

Yelp
I moved to Pueblo in 1988 and instantly fell in love with Sloppers. However, I didn't truly appreciate just how special they are until I moved to Denver and looked for a substitute. I've sampled several offerings, but nothing comes close. Now, when I return to Pueblo, Gray's is my first stop. I love Sloppers!!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Stopped in on a motorcycle trip out west. Great atmosphere. Great food and of course Coors!!!

Angela D.

Yelp
In a few weeks ago, used to love coming here. Service has always been hit or miss, but our last visit was our last. After inquiring about our food order several times and a severely long wait, our waitress told us she wasn't our "servant". LOL Don't be in the service industry if you don't like serving. We left with half our table not ever receiving food. Apparently, she was offended by something said at our table between two adult kids bantering. So, she decided to ignore us, not offering refills, etc. This place was a fun casual stop and it's turned into a complete wreck. Hands down the rudest experience in my time.
google avatar

Drake M.

Yelp
I've tried various sloppers around town and this is hands down one of the best, definitely a must try!!
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
Always delicious! We always go here after spending the day at the res. The staff is always friendly and our food is always perfect !
google avatar

Doug K.

Yelp
Last time I was in Pueblo a guy I work with said to check this place out for the slopper. I'm back in Pueblo and thought I would check it it and give it a shot. If your going to Gray's for a drink, this place has personality and a lot of beers on tap and in bottle for a good price. However..... I tried the Slopper with red chili. It's not all that. A hamburger patty underneath some Hormel chili and fries. With a flat (no carbonation) Pepsi, $15.00. The service was good - Sorry - it just didn't do anything for me, except, well I did throw up the chili about 2 hours later.
google avatar

Pete J.

Yelp
Stopped-in for a sit-down meal and beverage after cruising the Chili Festival. The staff's friendliness made it easy to enjoy a draft ice-cold schooner and enjoy the tavern's time-warp of memorabilia before savoring a satisfying slopper and onion rings. We will be back for a lazy winter afternoon!
