"This 19th-century Main Street building once housed a pharmacy; now it’s a three-story restaurant staple. The rustic-chic decor complements hearty, beautifully plated Southern dishes like heritage fried chicken, crispy pimento cheese with moonshine pepper jelly, and shrimp and popcorn cheddar grits — the perfect accompaniment to the soulful live music featured Thursday through Saturday evenings. Gray’s on Main also has a worthy sibling nearly next door: Cocktail bar O’ Be Joyful offers pimento burgers and one of the largest whiskey collections in town." - Eater Staff, Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

"Housed in an old pharmacy in Franklin’s history district, Gray's is a swanky restaurant and fun live music venue, a mainstay for local businesspeople and those with a little extra change in their pockets. The menu is heavy on local ingredients and local traditions, with Southern specialties such as white cheddar grits and fried catfish. There’s an impressive beer and brandy list—just because some of the dishes sound like something Grandma used to make doesn’t mean this is a down home, moonshine kind of joint." - Margaret Littman

We visited Gray’s on a busy Saturday for lunch without a reservation at 12:15, but were pleasantly surprised when they offered us a table reservation for 45 minutes later. This gave us the perfect opportunity to explore the charming downtown area, and our table was ready earlier than expected at 12:45. Our server, Kelsey, was exceptional, keeping our water and tea glasses full while checking on us just the right amount throughout the meal. The service was quick—our food arrived within about 15 minutes—and everything was delicious. We tried the chicken salad sandwiches, which were outstanding, paired with the best fries we’ve ever had. The pork belly lettuce wraps were equally amazing. The menu offers a unique taste that really sets this place apart. Gray’s has a cool vibe with rustic chic decor—exposed brick, warm wood accents, and vintage touches that give it a laid-back yet stylish atmosphere. The live music stage adds to the charm, and though we haven’t experienced the music yet, it’s definitely on our list for the next visit!

We visited Grays on main for lunch and mocktails before heading on to Nashville. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with a touch of Franklin pharmaceutical history. The mocktails were decent, and the birria Mac and cheese was creamy. We ordered the salads with chicken as well. These were not as big as expected, but they were delicious. I would recommend this place.

Grays on Main has quickly become one of our top dining spots in the area, and it's easy to see why. I highly recommend booking a reservation days to weeks in advance because this place is popular for all the right reasons. While waiting to be seated, the charm of downtown Franklin will keep you entertained with its array of sweet shops, unique stores, and lively bars. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere took us back in time, perfectly capturing the spirit of the 1800s when the town was founded. The entire table couldn't stop raving about the vibe—it’s truly something special. Now, onto the food, which was absolutely incredible. We ordered the fried chicken, figs wrapped in bacon, and the filet with a side of cheese grits. Each dish was a standout, but the steak was the real star. It was so tender it melted in my mouth—one of those steaks you savor with every bite, soft like butter and rich like bone marrow. Grays on Main is now our go-to spot for bringing friends and family for an unforgettable evening. If you're in Franklin, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You won't be disappointed!

Stopped into this sleek and sophisticated eatery right on the main street and was immediately greeted with a warm smile. It was busy with a festival in Franklin, but that was not a bother to the staff. The ambiance is relaxed with a sense of urgency and the drinks coming across the bar made me want to try them all! If you prefer quality and experience - stop here.

My daughter and I spent the day in Franklin for our birthdays and had lunch at Gray's. The food was great! Our server, Raeann, was AMAZING!! We had such a good time!! We will definitely be back.

Walked into this bar and fell in love with it. If I lived closer I'd be in weekly! The food is spectacular, drinks are beautifully crafted, and the building itself is so cool. We especially loved bartender Ray, she we amazing.

Pimento cheese balls and bacon wrapped figs were a delicious combo. Bartender was friendly and made us well balanced cocktails as we watched the rain from the big front windows at the bar. Best banana pudding I ate in Nashville.

Unfortunately our dinner was soured entirely due to service. We were greeted in a very combative way by the host they found a table quickly but when we asked to be seated somewhere differently due to the size of the table she was combative about this. I was confused when we arrived at the different table because there appeared to be other open tables and a booth open as well. Our server was a woman who made my girlfriend feel terrible for not ordering a lot. She seemed overly concerned with her tip before I even made my order and even exclaimed “well thank god” when I ordered a full meal. We saw her once when she took our order, another time when she made it clear she wanted us to leave (a few bites into our food) and once when she brought the bill. She seemed extremely off put when I ordered coffee and we didn’t order any alcoholic beverages. Our food was brought to us by i believe the staff in the kitchen who seemed very nice. The food presentation was excellent. My food was very good (4/5 or 5/5) (from what little I tasted) I ordered a pork chop and a creme brûlée. If I ordered the same thing again, I would order it without the bbq sauce (it competes with the other great flavors that already exist in the meal). My girlfriend ordered mash potatoes (1/5) and banana pudding (0/5?). We both found her mash potatoes to be buttered but not seasoned. We were told it would be a garlic mash and couldn’t taste any garlic. She was not able to taste the banana split before we were rushed out unfortunately and that’s what she was the most excited about.

Yelp
I had a great experience here! I came alone so was going to sit at the bar, and the hostess mentioned there was an upstairs dining area as well. I fell in love with upstairs and if I ever go back, that's where you'll find me. The bar does have a side along the windows where their marquee sign is and you get a great people-watching view of the street if you turn your chair. My bartender was super sweet and excellent. I actually went for a mocktail and tried their Vanilla and Pear Spritz; that was unbelievable! So good. For food I started with the Goat cheese stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates. These were good, but something about the sauce was not jiving with the dates for me. I still polished them off, though. However the star of this visit was my entree; I got the Market fish, which happened to be halibut with veggies an artichoke veloute sauce. The veggies included squash and eggplant and even lemongrass; the sauce was stunning!!! Absolutely fabulous. And I didn't get dessert, but they were able to make a pot of coffee for me, which I greatly appreciated, especially since it was pretty late by then.

Yelp
The food that was had was pretty good but the value was off. I felt like it was very overpriced. We got the bacon wrapped figs as a starter. They were okay but tiny! There were maybe 5 or 6 of them for $12. The strawberry goat cheese salad was really good but again, not really worth the price. I feel like I've got many similar salads for much less. The fried chicken was a generous portion and probably the best value. It was well fried and the sauce on it was the stand-out part. The mashed potatoes were good but the green beans were just okay.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere, delicious n/cocktails too! On a short trip to Franklin we dined out a few times, this was the only place we came back to. First night we sat in the downstairs bar area and had the pleasure of Jake the bartender serving us. Chatty and fun, he helped us navigate the menu and was just a nice guy in general. We shared the pimento balls and the tuna tartar, both flavorful and delicious. Husband had the fried chicken, loved it(i thought it had a cumin taste that i didn't love but that's just me) very crispy and perfectly cooked. the star: the halibut special. there's no way to cook a piece of fish better than what they gave me, spot on and with a delicious sauce. Had lunch a couple days later, we both had the cuban. delicious, great service again, this time upstairs. It's a winner, highly recommend!

Yelp
Awesome food service and ambiance!! Hands down a favorite in Franklin. Great drink menu and the history of the building is so cool.

Yelp
With a Resy requirement of $25 per person to guarantee a reservation, Gray's might require some planning to make sure you can get a table. But instead of the stuffy restaurants that usually require that deposit, Gray's is a super homey, casual spot serving delicious Southern favorites. Servers are friendly and dining here was really a relaxed experience. Highlight appetizers include the fried pimento cheese balls and cornbread. Burgers were appropriately messy and cheesy, but there are also some delicious salad options that you can veganism. Deducting 1 star for not having a veggie burger option.

John O.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and plenty of servers. Menu looks limited but a full bar on both floors and a stage for a band to play.

Felix P.

Yelp
Some of the best mixologists in Tennessee! All of the cocktails and options are top notch! Great food as well. And just met Jason Aldean in here...nice guy!

Ashley H.

Yelp
The drinks and food here is fantastic! I highly recommend sitting upstairs to hear some amazing live music. The service is always over the top and very quick.

John M.

Yelp
A very good Main Street bar, both touristy and local, with a three story, dark wood interior, and live music. Service was excellent, friendly, and fast. The full bar features coordinated drinks with their menu. The list is short, but well curated. We tried the Spinach Artichoke Toast Ricotta, it was excellent.

Yelp
I went here last night for dinner. I was shocked when my bill was $85 so with tip over $100 and I didn't order any alcohol. There was a group of 4 of us for dinner. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. The decor and ambience are really nice. It's a beautiful restaurant. I started with the Pom-erita from the Non Alcoholic menu. It was really delicious. A little spicy. I could have had more than 1! We got the bacon wrapped figs to start. They are tiny. They were fine but a little sour. I think there were 5 or 6 so I only had one. I wouldn't order them again. We also got the potatoes to start. The potatoes themselves were good but there was a weird sourness in the accompanying ranch dip. For my main dish, I got the Market Fish which was Halibut. I was pretty disappointed in this. It was $42. The fish itself was very dry and lacked any flavor. I asked the waiter to bring me some lemon and salt and pepper and I doused it in both to make it taste like anything. The zucchini it came with were fine. It also came with asparagus which were very hard. I wish they had been a bit more tender. It tasted as though they had barely been cooked at all. I wish more care had been made to the vegetables considering how tiny this dish was to start with. The sauce that came on the fish was good but not enough to give it the flavor it needed. I got a side of the cheesy grits which were tasty but definitely nothing special. The fish itself was a tiny piece of fish with just a few vegetables. For dessert, I got the carrot cake which was good but something about it didn't taste quite fresh. The standout portion of the cake were these brown sugar crumbles on it which were good. Overall, I felt like the value here was a bit off for the food. I don't know why it was so expensive. I think I'll come back, but probably won't be rushing back.

Adriana S.

Yelp
The food here is incredible. We ordered way too much for two because everything on the menu sounded great, and the food lived up to all of our hopes and dreams.

Nicole F.

Yelp
LOVED this place. Chic, rustic decor. Bar on first and floor and the mixologist were wonderful. The food was excellent although they were served luke warm. If they came out hot I would fund this restaraunt 5 stars. Our server was friendly but a bit slow. It was busy but I observed him not doing anything at times. That's probably why our food came out luke warm. Bacon wrapped figs were good and has a sweet sauce on top. Serving was not too big. We also had the Shrimp over grits, filet mignon, and short ribs. All amazing ! The chocolate pecan was out of this world. I've never had chocolate pecan pie and I was pleasantly surprised. We took an Uber from Nashville, it was about a 15 minute ride and well worth it. Definitely need reservations and ask to sit upstairs if you would like to listen to live music. The band was great too! Perfect night.

Emily F.

Yelp
Great southern cuisine - staff was super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Paula R.

Yelp
Set in an historic building, this quaint restaurant exudes charm and character. It is right on Franklin's main street so it perfect to walk around the town and grab a bite to eat. We had the corn bread (delicious and loved the honey butter), the shrimp and grits (very well seasoned and delicious!), the pork shank (the highlight of the meal, everyone loved it) and the scallops (the sauce was overpowering but good nonetheless). Everything came out quickly, was well seasoned, and everything was gobbled up. We made a reservation the day before and went on a Tuesday--seated right away without any issues and the restaurant was lively. Sat on the first floor high top and had no problems!

Laura R.

Yelp
Just wasn't good last night. Over $100 with tip for 1 app, 2 sub par entrees and no alcohol. The pimento balls had great flavor but were cold. I had the fried chicken which was cold, tough. The mashed potatoes were ok but the gravy was overly sweet accompanied by what I swear were canned green beans. My daughter had the lobster ravioli which didn't taste like lobster and although she likes al dente, they were al dente al dente and were also served lukewarm. The waitress was nice but the culinary experience was not. I never write reviews but this place has gone downhill and was a waste of my hard earned money last night.

Kat S.

Yelp
Our server Skyler was great! It was my mom's 60th birthday and they made it very special for her. We got wonderful recommendations for food and the drinks were awesome as well.

Ashley I.

Yelp
I came for lunch awhile back and had a great experience. The service was good, and we enjoyed the food. This past Saturday(6/22) we made a reservation for 8 upstairs by the stage. We ended up having 12 because more people came into town. We figured we could pull up a few chairs, maybe some of the group could grab another table or sit a the bar. We were wrong, which was totally fine. The problem is the hostess was extremely rude in telling us. It was not warranted in any way--simply asking what our options were if there were any. She could have easily conveyed the same message with a much kinder demeanor instead of going off on us. I am writing this because if I was an owner, I would want to know how poorly the hostess treated guests. If it wasn't for her we would have stayed, and just had a few people sit at bar downstairs.

Mark M.

Yelp
Overpriced, average at best! 8" cornbread is 12 bucks? Come on! Fish was lukewarm, bland. Chicken bread is 3.00lb at Costco. $28.00 with mashed potatoes? $20.00 for med sized salad. Won't go back. Need better quality for these prices!!

Jeff D.

Yelp
Gray's on Main resides in a beautiful historical drug store, rich with history in Franklin TN. Look around, read the walls, notice the charm of this Franklin Jewel. We have been coming here for years, mostly because of their great mixologists. This time to our amazement they added a 1st floor bar, looks amazing! We retreated to the 2nd floor where there is a smaller bar, table tops, and a music stage. We normally don't eat here because the food has been average. Well, something changed and for the good! I started off with an Old Fashioned with Sazerac Bourbon, they are always on point! For our appetizer we ordered the Bacon Wrapped Figs, anything with Benton's bacon from East TN is delicious! For dinner my wife ordered the Goat Cheese & Mushroom Agnolotti, she said it was very good. I ordered the Bouillabaisse, with Red Snapper, Scallops, Mussels, Littleneck Clams, Fennel, Fingerling Potatoes, with Saffron Tomato Broth. Ok, this changed my opinion of Gray's, DANG.... This was amazing!!!! The flavor and how it was cooked was perfect! I did have one recommendation for the chef, the broth was soooooo good I wanted to soak it up with some bread! Denise our waitress was amazing, another reason this place is special. When I suggested this, she asked the chef to make me a skillet corn bread so I could enjoy the broth! There is a restaurant in Knoxville that brings out an 8 inch baguette in a brown paper bag to keep it warm, this maybe a good addition to this entree. Now for dessert, save room... Bourbon Vanilla Creme Burlee and Banana Pudding, for me the Bourbon Vanilla Creme Burlee wins! Now it's time to sit back and listen to some great music! Great job Gray's!

Michael M.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever spent $150 on an appetizer, one drink for each of us, and an average priced entree and had the meal taste so bland. My wife had the lobster ravioli and immediately she said I ordered the wrong thing. The ravioli was chewy and had no flavor profile. I ordered the fried chicken which looked to be breaded in Panko and served with mashed potatoes and green beans. That entire dish needed more seasoning. Probably our best dish was the corn bread appetizer. The peach topping and other butter was good. My house special cocktail with whiskey was good as well. Finally we sat along a wall near the stage. A pipe in the ceiling had a slow drip and landed on my wife at least five times. Table 255. Just sums up how our dinner experience went. Sorry Grays on Main. Could have been much better.

Foodie R.

Yelp
Great ambiance, service and food. Lettuce wraps were great and cocktails were deliciously handcrafted

Aimee' N.

Yelp
We had such an amazing experience here for my graduation dinner. Jenna, our waitress made us feel so special and provided the best service! All the food, drinks and dessert we got was such great quality and very tasty. Definitely coming back!

Janet K.

Yelp
Best cocktails. Go to the second floor. Bartenderess - Rae. - is the most knowledgeable and equipped cocktail created ever. Afternoon wine: Fess Parker.

Savannah C.

Yelp
The drinks were on point. I love the low lighting, old school vibe of the restaurant. It's classy but very welcoming. The hummus was one of the best I've ever had. And I should know! Trust me. Don't get the cornbread, it needs some help. We just had drinks and apps. We sat up top and listened to music. It was fun and we all said we'd go back again. I'd love to try some of their main menu items.

Sasha A.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed at all. We split 2 appetizers the pimento cheese and the crispy smashed potatoes. Not sure why the potatoes are described on the menu as smashed, they are far from it. Basically they are just pieces of potato fried and served with a sour cream. Reminded me of potatoes that would be served with a breakfast. The Parmesan added no flavor. The pimento cheese were fried balls and served with a sweet sauce. The pimento itself had no flavor and the sweet sauce just didn't seem like it belonged in the dish. The other thing I noticed was the peeling paint on the ceiling. First thing that came to mind was someone like a Gordon Ramsey looking up and yelling at the owners how the peeling paint could fall into someone's plate. Overall I would past on this place.

D Y.

Yelp
Meh. Food was average and very salty. There are definitely better places in town. On the plus side, it is a fun place to hang out.

Desiree C.

Yelp
Best fried chicken I've had in my life! Super crispy, flavorful, and juicy! This is coming from a picky ass chicken eating girl who will pick out every veiny-looking, chewy tough, and brownish reddish parts I see on a chicken. Thanks! And you're welcome.

Robert M.

Yelp
Food is incredible. Great place for a true foodies. Brandon. Our service was on point, friendly and knowledgeable. Love the retro apothecary vibe. The bacon wrapped figs are a must have. If you like a good whiskey drink be sure to order The Anthym.

Matt R.

Yelp
I'm sure the food was good but it was really overshadowed by how unbearably cold it was on the 2nd floor. A table next to us asked to be moved to a warmer area. We and another table asked if the temp could be changed so it wasn't so cold. We were told it was being adjusted but there was no change during our stay. All the while, someone by the front windows had one open to be warmer, which, in turn, keeps the AC blasting for the rest of the room. Food was probably good. Service was slow. Environment was freezing. Not very enjoyable.

Nikki D.

Yelp
Great spot for lunch. The bacon wrapped figs and truffle fries were super yummy. The kale and cabbage salad with grilled chicken came with a wonderful homemade ranch dressing. A little expensive on the wine though. 2 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc was $30.

Michael F.

Yelp
I would review the food but we didn't eat here. We came in because they advertised the best whiskey drink in the south. It's called Anthem Spirit and it was pretty damn amazing. The wife had a Moscow Mule with a cranberry liquor kicker recommend by the bartender Rae. She raved about how good it was. The food looked awesome and was very well plated. The bartender was excellent and very personable.

Will H.

Yelp
Good service and everyone in our party of 3 enjoyed their meal. Burger was great, smashed potato appetizer was good.

Neil W.

Yelp
Good menu, excellent service. Sat at the bar and took the bartender's recommendation which was very helpful.

Trisha Z.

Yelp
Made reservation to sit by the window so we could look at Main Street. Very attentive waiter. Make sure to get the bacon wrapped figs and cheeseball appetizers.

Bridget B.

Yelp
My husband got his Fried Pimento Cheeseball fix served with House-made Moonshine Pepper Jelly Delicious & wonderful cocktails. Bonus our server Bethany was so nice ans helpful

Bob B.

Yelp
Incredible atmosphere, great vibe, stellar cocktails, awesome food, and top notch service. It might be the best shrimp and grits I've ever eaten. We would highly recommend!

Kristianne B.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice. Server was really nice. Not many choices on their menu but decided on the koji raised flat iron steak with Mac and cheese. The steak was pretty good.

Heather J.

Yelp
Gray's on main was a very average place for me. They were out of multiple things that my party attempted to order. We waited awhile for drinks and food despite a fairly empty restaurant. We did enjoy the small plates - we ordered basically all of them. The fried pimento cheese balls were delicious.

Brandon B.

Yelp
We got poisoning eating here. Additionally, two of four cocktails took 30+ minutes to arrive. Our server was unfriendly. Thumbs down all the way. This place is awful, except for the decor.

Cindy N.

Yelp
Drinks- 100% fantastic Food- pretty good. I'd love to see a major menu change here. There is pretty much nothing on this menu that interests me. I hope the chef/management consider a new menu.

Bria L.

Yelp
This spot is good, but didn't surprise me in any way. I went with a group of friends and ordered a few of food items to share. The bacon wrapped figs were really good. They have multiple wine and cocktail options. I would say it's a good standard place to grab lunch. The atmosphere is a bit on the dimmer side, not super uplifting. There are three stories to the building. They also host live music. There is street parking.

Madison S.

Yelp
Not worth the money. The food is okay- the appetizers are the best. Not the most friendly atmosphere. The two trolls running the hostess counter were nothing but rude when we came in- we should've left then. Manager, tell your workers to be friendly- it's worth it.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Restaurant located in the heart of downtown Franklin. There's an upstairs area with a stage with live music. Limited dinner menu but each item was executed well! We got a variety of appetizers to share among the table. A couple of Gluten Free options available, just let your server know and they can help you out. Standout appetizer was the bacon wrapped goat cheese figs. The biscuits were fluffy and quite large, and the Brussel sprouts were also quite good. For entrees, they were all decently portioned and enough to split between two not very hungry people or + appetizers. Everyone seemed happy with their entree (fried chicken, shrimp, steak and pork).

Heather K.

Yelp
Once again, AMAZING! We were here a year ago, and it was just as fabulous! So glad we came again, will definitely be back!

Diane C.

Yelp
We had a reservation but they made us wait over an hour after. My dish was heavy and over seasoned. Drinks were ok but appetisers and food were over seasoned. Not worth the price.

Kim W.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice and food is great. We were surprised at no wait but it was a week night. Great place for a special occasion or date night.

Lindsey M.

Yelp
I've never given a 2-star review to a restaurant; I really wanted to like this place for food but I haven't been this disappointed in a while. We have come for drinks at the bar and had a great time! We brought out-of-town guests for lunch and were so embarrassed by our entire experience. There was no wait and there were tons of open tables, but it took 25 minutes to be greeted by our waitress and another 50 minutes to receive our food (all salads) and the only reason it came out was because we were going to check out and leave. An hour and 15 minutes for salads is crazy. The food runner was rude and dismissive and we were excited for the corn bread and it came out completely burnt. We didn't say anything and just left it because we didn't want to cause a fuss, but we each tried only one bite and put it to the side. The salads were good enough but nothing special. My husband did like his Old Fashioned and hot chicken. We were offered a free dessert in exchange for this experience, but we didn't want to sit there any longer. I'm disappointed to say that I would not recommend.

Kristi B.

Yelp
First time to Franklin, TN and was advised by a wonderful Usher at the Ryman suggested Grays! The only negative was the lunch Caesars Salad was too small to share. The Cheese Balls - 5 in an order, were yummy with the chili sauce giving it a good flavor together. My favorite was the bacon wrapped figs. They were flavorful and the balsamic reduction was good with them. 4 in an order. The Steak Frites were cooked perfect for flavor and these were real hand cut frites. Side salad added for $6 was great. And plentiful. The toast with whipped spread with jam Romulade was my favorite. Beautiful atmosphere a cross between rustic and urban vibe. 4 stars means I'll be back!
