"Great Gold will replace Foxsister on 24th Street this Friday. Chef/partner Brandon Kirksey and David Steele will start serving classics like spaghetti and meatballs and veal parm in the space this Friday, August 9. Great Gold will keep the same funky look as Foxsister, retaining a wheat paste mural by Cheyenne Randall and a facade by graffiti artist Apexer. Chef Kirksey and chef de cuisine Timmy Malloy will turn their attention to staples like bucatini amatriciana, garlic focaccia, clams casino, and cioppino. They’ll also do some serious family-style dinner prix fixe options, like the Marcia, a spread named for Kirksey’s grandmother." - Caleb Pershan

Stellar atmosphere evoking reddish gold during days of 49ers Gold Rush so when you need a drink and a plate of Italian come here admire Audrey Hepburn on the wall with birds adorning her. Food fine for the price. Sample portions for hungry miners

I went for a birthday dinner so there were 10 of us. The food was delicious but the service of our waitress was subpar. When asking for more water, she literally responded there’s another bottle at the other end of the table and then brought the additional bottle. I had to ask for more water multiple times and she was not happy about it.

I loved my experience here. While not everything I ate was out of this world, on the whole things were super tasty and would make me come back. Their Great Gold tomato bread is positively divine and pretty much embodies the theme of their best food: simple, done well, involves tomatoes. The stuffed shells were really tasty and very filling. The impossible meatballs were a little underwhelming but I was super happy to see so many vegetarian options on the menu. Service was good, atmosphere was nice. There aren't a ton of tables but the space is large. It has a very nice casual, weekday dinner feel to it, in vibe and price tag. Check it out!

Disclaimer: review is for opening night. Food: Solid fare. Good selection of Italian wines both by the glass and bottle. Ravioli was good, though incomplete judging from other orders that passed by later. Veal milanese was crisp and juicy but on the bland side. Service: Well-meaning but uneven; presumably they weren’t expecting the crowd that they got, and the kitchen is still getting their sea legs. ~20 minutes between melon + prosciutto and the pasta course, 40-45 minutes after ordering. Boisterous atmosphere—bordering on way too loud—even without a full house. This will end up growing into a nice weekday dinner spot. Not feeling it for date night, and weekend diners willing to leave the neighborhood will probably still make the “trek” north.

Im writing this after my second visit. I met a friend and his mom on a Friday night for dinner. Got there early and had a great glass of wine with some enjoyable conversation with other single eaters at the bar. Food was phenomenal, the service was efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. Our first time at Great Gold and it won't be our last. There are a lot of options in San Francisco but this chef will amaze you with his food and his hands on service as he was delivering to the table and making sure we were happy in addition to the wait staff! I highly recommend Great Gold for an awesome dining experience and a place to comfortably enjoy a meal by yourself at the bar or with friends and family. Enjoy!

Tasty food, reasonable portions to share, relaxed pace of service. If you're looking to order and get out in 20-30 minutes, go somewhere else. This is a place to order wine, have conversations, and eat food without feeling like they want to flip the table. Not to miss: - Tomato bread - Melon and prosciutto - Grilled summer beans - Rigatoni - Budino if you love a good chocolate pudding situation Kale caesar is generously dressed, which I enjoyed. If you're looking for a lighter dressing, just mention it when you order. Looking forward to coming back for the meatballs and more.

I had the pleasure of dining at Great Gold a few nights ago and absolutely loved it! My friend and I shared plates so that we could taste a variety of dishes (tomato bread, sunflower caesar, gnocchi arabbiata w burrata stracciatella, fennel pollen linguine w savory clams, Johanna’s eggplant parmesan, and chocolate pot de creme). I honestly cannot pick a favorite because everything was GREAT! Every dish was executed perfectly and it was a truly nourishing dining experience (think: the way your nonna would have made... with love). This is easily my new favorite SF restaurant. I'm already looking forward to returning!

Got the prix-fix meal with wine pairing at this place during restaurant week, and it did not disappoint! Handmade pasta, incredible flavor profiles in every dish, and the best tiramisu I've ever had. Yes, ever.
