Everywhere Worth Eating Between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe

"If you’re in the mood for a terrific sit-down dinner after all that driving, Great Gold will do the trick. Former Flour + Water chef de cuisine Brandon Kirksey opened this Italian American restaurant, serving seasonal pasta and pizzas with locally sourced ingredients. Celebrate the end of your drive — and the official start of your vacation — with a warming plate of pasta pomodoro or a slice of the hot salami pizza topped with coppa and salami picante, with a dash of heat from Calabrian chile." - Paolo Bicchieri

Illyanna Maisonet Is a Bay Area James Beard Media Award Winner for 2023 - Eater SF

"Great Gold, the Italian restaurant that closed in 2020 thanks to COVID, moved to the Lake Tahoe area for a new lease — on life, and in a literal new location. Now, SFGATE writes the restaurant is more popular than ever in Truckee and ownership will soon open French bistro Tangerine. As Great Gold brought the first bocce court to Truckee, so too will Tangerine be the first French restaurant in town when it opens down the road." - Paolo Bicchieri

Super delicious! Great Gold is doing it right. The fresh pasta was some of the best we’ve had! Highly recommend the cacio pepe. The pizzas were very tasty. The crust was perfect and the pizza itself wasn’t too greasy. Stuart was a great server! Friendly and chill. We will definitely be back!

Google
Jess was our server and she was excellent. Knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive even though the place was bustling and very busy. We had the Sunflower Caesar Salad which was nice and enough for 4 of us to share. We ordered 3 pizzas and liked the spicy salami and three cheese but were not a fan of the prosciutto/arugula which was dry and the prosciutto was cut too thick so not great from a compliment to the texture/ eating experience. Finished with tiramisu which was excellent.

Google
Well, wow! This restaurant needs to be on your to-go list if you’re in the area. It felt less like dining out and more like being part of a carefully orchestrated performance (in the best way). It wasn’t just about the food (which was phenomenal); it was the atmosphere, the energy, and the impeccable service. It made just a dinner out with friends into a memory we will cherish forever! *They also can accommodate gluten free needs! And you will be thoroughly pleased!

Google
The food is amazing we took the waiter’s (Jacob) recommendation and were very happy and pleased. What a great meal! Spinach Cannelloni with black truffles, and ragalatoni (sp) with Barratta was excellent

Stephanie Cirbo

Google
OUTSTANDING!! The food and service(Randall) was phenomenal! I can’t recommend this place enough. I had the rigatoni and my husband the Pappardelle!. . Great wines as well! You have to go!

Google
This Italian restaurant serves the best eggplant parmigiana I've ever had! The dish is perfectly layered, with tender, flavorful eggplant, rich marinara, and just the right amount of melted cheese. The flavors are authentic, and each bite feels like a comforting, homemade meal, their kale Caesar salad was amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant is welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a delicious, satisfying meal. If you love Italian food, this place is a must-visit!

Google
Loved this place! The food was amazinggg. They were also very accommodating and sat our party of 9 on short notice. Highly recommend!

Google
Second time at Great Gold. Whether it’s a chicken parm pizza or beef carpaccio, the food here is an experience! Far better than the more pricey Pianeta’s. The fresh pasta and pizza won’t leave you thinking “I could’ve made that at home” (well at least for an above average cook and below). Desserts are fabulous - tiramisu last time. Vanilla gelato with olive oil and salt this time was absolutely delectable!

Yelp
Great Gold is ok, I ordered Johanna's Eggplant Parmesan and it was all cheese, with very little sauce or eggplant, if you're charging $34.00 for Eggplant please put some in my dish. Acoustics are very loud lights are too low. Service was the only reason it was 3 stars our waiter was Wonderful.

Yelp
Phenomenal new find for me! My parents live in the area and I was visiting and they chose Great Gold as a dinner choice after a 4+ hour drive back from SF (important choice). I could have eaten every item on the menu. The lamb pappardelle and hot salami pizza were phenomenal. Can wait to come back for the vodka rig and branzino. Great service from Jordan as well. Thank you!

Yelp
4.5 stars This place is just great. It would be a great restaurant in a mountain town or on Valencia in the mission. The balance of polish on each dish we had was impressive. I think this is probably the best food in Truckee right now. We had the peach prosciutto, mushroom pizza, campanelle pesto, and sundae. We'd get all of these dishes again. We saw other dishes expedited and they all looked equally good. I love the patio seating however it wasn't offered for our early dining time. Let's collectively pray this place: 1. Gets a liquor permit. Yeah I know you're probably already wanting one and it's in the works...we'd love this place even more. Negronis paired with this food would be magical. 2. Way more EVOO on your Tuscan sundaes please. That drizzle drops isn't enough. Ideally you want some OO pooled so that in each scoop of the spoon you get some. Phenomenal dish btw...that mint is amazing.

Yelp
So much about our dinner was amazing. We got there for our 5:45pm reservation. The place was pretty empty and frankly quite nice from a noise level perspective. As the restaurant filled for the evening, the noise level got progressively louder. Our server was amazing. She was attentive and welcoming. She always made sure our water glasses were topped off and our table was always wiped clean. I had the Pappardelle with Lamb. In a word, amazing. What a delicious combination of flavors, textures and richness. Perfection. A friend had the Rigatoni allá Vodka. Another amazing dish. Perfect blend of flavors. My wife had the Bucatini Carbonara. An extremely rich dish. A bIt too rich for my taste. Most of it came home with us. My Nephew had the 3-Cheese Pizza with Pepperoni. I'm not a Pizza connoisseur, but felt it can best be described as "floppy". The crust was good but the Pizza bottom had no structure or snap to it. A nice place for Italian in Truckee. The service was amazing. Some dishes were clear stand out, whereas others were not our favorites.

Yelp
Homemade pasta, wood fired pizza. Food was delicious, I would call this more of an Italian restaurant. It was way fancier than I thought it would be. I felt a bit underdressed as I just thought it was some low key pizza place but it's really nice inside and very pricey. Interesting that it's located in a commercial area outside of downtown but they have outdoor seating and ample tables inside. Full bar with good drinks. They even had gluten free pasta which was a plus for me. I wish they had a gluten free pizza dough. I ordered an extra meatball on my pasta and for $7 more it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be although very tasty. Service was slow. Our waitress just kinda stopped coming to our table and then we were asking random staff for assistance so that was weird but at least we still got help as they did seem to have a lot of staff.

Yelp
I want to love Great Gold, but our experience was definitely average. It's another one of those places that creates a high price point for average food, beverage, and ambiance. The space is tucked away, off the beaten path, in an industrial part of Truckee. The floor plan is open, consisting of one moderate size room & an open kitchen. It's nicely lit, and fairly modern/minimalist in decor. We sat at the bar for dinner. Our bartender/server was very kind, but seemed a bit nervous. She suggested the Campanelle pasta which is supposedly homemade ($28). It was described as a Pesto and Cacio e Pepe pasta. Lawd knows I LOVE my Cacio e Pepe. But alas, it wasn't really Cacio e Pepe, but a pesto that had parmesan & pepper as well. It did not seem homemade either. My husband scarfed down his Tonarrelli Carbonara ($32) which looked more like an actual Cacio e Pepe to me. *Sigh*. The Focaccia bread was delicious & well seasoned. And our Fingerling Potatoes were pretty good as well. They had some sort of glaze on them that made them a tad sweet almost like an orange chicken sauce. The Tiramisu was a miss. It was very custardy with no texture. I was also surprised not to see ANY California wines on the menu. I understand they are aiming for authentic Italian, but it just didn't really land for me. Wine by the glass starts at $15, and a bottle starts at $60. So you do not get a discount for ordering a bottle. Might as well order by the glass in case you want to switch up your varietal. Our bill came out to $215 (with tip) for an "okay" dinner for two. They add a (disclosed) 6% healthcare fee to the bill. Like I said, I want to love Great Gold, but I don't know the next time I'll be back. Maybe the pizza is the right choice?!

Yelp
Gray gold is pretty fancy, but I still saw some kids. Definitely my favorite place for pizza hands-down in all of Truckee if not my favorite place to eat overall. They nailed the pizza crust (soft and chewy, sprinkled with fresh Parmesan... That was just a cherry on top) and the service is just excellent. All their pastas were good but my favorite was the rigatoni. The salad and broccolini also spectacular. I personally was not a big fan of the meatball (too much breading) and the Cacio E Pepe sauce was pretty heavy. But definitely still loved by everybody at the table. In fact we ordered a second plate of cacio e Pepe for the kids. The least favorite part was the Cabernet Sauvignon, especially for the price ($17), but overall can't wait to return! Be sure to make a reservation and ask for the kids menu - there are a few lower priced options ($18) for basic pastas.

Yelp
This review is way overdue. We came here for the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, and were so delighted by the entire experience. The food was excellent, the dining room was lively, and the service was welcoming and attentive. This is one of the nicer spots for dining out in Truckee, so it's great for a celebration, date night or just a nice dinner out. We haven't had a chance to return on a regular night, but we definitely plan to.

Yelp
Great service. Wonderful Italian food. Amazing wine list. Tomato bread with anchovies was a great way to start the night!

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious!! The sunflower salad is something I go back for over and over. Ambiance is rustic and simple. The pizza dough is perfectly fluffy.

Yelp
We tried Great Gold while on vacation. Stumbled upon it out of luck and ended up going back a second time during our trip because it was so delicious. We started with the tomato garlic focaccia. It was phenomenal and just a starting point. The pasta is made fresh and you can taste that. We had the pesto, the carbonara and the vodka sauce rigatoni (my fave). All were really above and beyond. We had a burrata pizza and the hot salami and again just next level delicious. Really fantastic crust and flavorful toppings. To close out we shared a tiramisu and no surprises it was sensational. All round an exceptional meal and highly recommend. It's quite pricey and the acoustics of the dining room are a bit loud, but it was great service both times and the food and experience was worth every penny. 10/10

Yelp
We come here quite a bit and find delicious seasonal dishes that are delicious. The Cesar Kale is our standard go to, we also had the peaches & prosciutto salad. Then the mushroom pizza- our main courses were the gluten free pesto pasta ( reported to be the best gluten free pasta my friend has ever had) the half chicken which had the perfect balance of flavors. Delicious!

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, nice ambiance. I did not think the prices were higher than any other restaurant especially considering the food was top notch and service wonderful.

Yelp
This place has a pretty large dining area and laid back vibe. Obsessed with their tomato bread, mushroom pizza, and pasta dishes. Enjoyed a bottle of Orange wine as well. Our server was very personable and chill. He gave us plenty of time to relax and peruse the menu while we nibbled and imbibed. Definitely quality ingredients expertly combined for a fantastic meal.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
If this isn't the best restaurant in the Tahoe-Donner area, it's their sister restaurant, Tangerine. Doesn't matter. Both are fantastic. Try the pasta. Have the pizza. Order the appetizers. Everything on their menu is fantastic. Service is friendly and knowledgeable too. They see a lot of out-of-towners, but do a great job remembering repeat customers anyway. I've been many times, and every experience has been superb.

Yelp
A great local pasta type Italian cuisine restaurant with decent prices that might have been a bit high, but the quality of the food was incredibly fresh tasting. The only bad thing about the food may have been the presentation was a bit sloppy. But the ambience was good For being a restaurant in a strip mall type location. It definitely seemed upscale. The service was very good but a little inconsistent. Had the bucati pasta and meatball appetizer.
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Wow! Super happy to have found this spot. The pizza and pasta are so perfectly cooked. Love the fresh parm on the crust, great touch. You can tell the pasta is made in house, that's a texture and flavor you can't fake! I don't usually order salads, but the sunflower salad needs to be added to your order!! Can't wait to come back and give this place another go. For 2 of us with wine we were in about $250.

Yelp
Quick update - we went back this week for in person dining. The dining room has a nice feel - very unexpected for Truckee. During nicer weather, they also have a folding door open to the patio and a deck with a pergola and market lights. Parking is easy and free in the lot in this unassuming industrial appearing area (right across from one of our favorite sandwich places - Full Belly Deli!) They have only beer and wine (no liquor). We got a bottle of a 2018 Brunello del Montalcino, and I appreciate that it was served at the right temperature. We got 2 pastas and a pizza this time. - Mafaldine nero: cool pasta shape but a bit soft / overcooked for me. That said, the seafood broth it was served with was so fragrant I was literally just drinking it with a spoon - Rigatoni alla vodka: a large portion, topped with buffalo mozzarella. While I like the buffalo mozzarella, it did cool the pasta a bit. The rigatoni wasn't like your traditional rigatoni shape and had a better bite to it. Definitely add some chili flakes on this one - Mushroom pizza: disappointing this time. This time, the cream sauce was onion based and had more of an onion soubise flavor, which was more prominent than the mushroom flavor. Notably, the crust was different this time - more like a bread flour crust? It was thin, but the back didn't have the same rise/chew. I was sad because we really loved the pizzas we got just 1 month ago Staff were friendly, and I like the overall vibes of the restaurant. Definitely make a reservation to avoid a wait (available on Resy).

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Truckee this year. Thursday was our fourth visit since the start of the year and we're unlikely to slow down (so long as the Branzino stays on the menu, which is a MUST order for at least one person at your table). For the antipasti, the fritto misto is fabulous and filling. That basil aioli and the oysters pair wonderfully. Enjoyed the pear and endive salad as well (for something a little lighter). Pork belly meat balls were very good and easy to share but I would rank them just below the fritto misto. Have enjoyed every one of the pizzas we have tried (only one we haven't tried yet is the three cheese). Very filling and definitely something to split if you're also having an appetizer. Definitely on par with Old Town if not better. Favorite might be the Italian sausage or prosciutto arugula, but if you like spicy, the hot salami is excellent. Grilled broccoli and Brussels sprouts are both very good but we usually pass on them in favor of another app or dessert. Love the display of the albums being played for that night as well. Great variety. Far from the usual elevator music you'll find at some places. And while the service is always great here, a big thank you to Jessie for not just excellent wine recommendations but perfectly paced courses on this last visit. Equally a fun spot for a date, a few friends, or a larger family dinner. Reservations recommended.

Yelp
So happy we were able to get into this place, it's modern and elegant with charm. The service was impeccable from to the hostess to the server. Our water was never empty, table was cleared and cleaned between meals, literally 5 star service. The staff and chefs worked in unison it was like watching a symphony from beginning to end. Jacob gave us the best service felt like his world and we were just in it. He was professional, friendly, down to earth and very knowledgeable and made some amazing recommendations. Now let get to the incredible dinner! It's a seasonal menu with fresh and locally grown and imported ingredients. Also they recommend you order your appetizers and mains because they are made to order. For appetizers we started with the house made focaccia bread and added burrata you NEED to try the burrata!!! We also had the caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella delicious light and flavorful. The fritto misto included lightly fried oysters, calamari, and shrimp, the batter was so light and crisp you really get to taste the freshness of the seafood. We also had the hot salmi pizza it was thin, spicy, delicious and easily shareable between four people. Now to the main courses I ordered the branzino and the lemon butter OMG exceptional 10/10 a definite must to order accompanied with a side of the grilled broccoli 10/10. We also ordered the grilled half chicken diavolo perfectly seasoned and so tender and juicy with great flavor, we also had rigatoni alla vodka freshly made noodles and perfectly cooked sauce, lastly hand-cut pappardelle also delicious. Definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time!!! Also the menu is seasonal and changes slightly.

Yelp
Food quality and presentation were good. For anyone from anywhere else in the world other than the Bay area, the 6% surcharge, on top of tax, tip, and an already more than fully priced menu (and most entrees don't include sides) is just insulting. I've been twice now, but won't return until they roll the 6% surcharge into their base prices, as it should be.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food and service! We had dinner here on a Wednesday night, the pizza is excellent!
google avatar

Sage R.

Yelp
It's a fine restaurant but way over priced for what it is. Every time we've been there the service has ranged from sub par to adequate, and one of the main reasons I won't return is the acoustics - the music is loud, the space is is echo-y, and it's hard to hear what others at your own table are saying because you can also hear everyone around you. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but the overall experience has never been worth it the few times we've gone here and I always leave wishing I had brought earplugs.
google avatar

Yelp
So we went for dinner , The ambiance is very cool very romantic , it's the perfect place for a date , definitely make a reservation before you go they're usually booked up. The food was very flavor full and good I got the vodka pasta ,I think that's what it was called , the cheese on top was so fresh and delicious, the pasta reminded me of a home dish called sopa de fideo , i don't know why , it was really good , we also ordered the focaccia bread and it tasted like if I was eating a cloud in bread form , it was a very interesting bread , for dessert I got the gelato with pistachio and sea salt , let me tell you I could eat that for the rest of my life it was so good , we also ordered the tiramisu , it came in a mug it was so cute I'll give them a 10 on their plating , the tiramisu was super creamy . Overall to me this is a very nice high end restaurant, definitely give it a try if you're in the area .

Kristina f.

Yelp
The prices are absolutely ridiculous: $7 Italian soda that was mostly ice $15 for four pieces of focaccia $30+ FOR PIZZA???? Penne a la vodka was good Pesto was murdered w lemon Staff was not engaging, we were never offered a second cocktail, nor asked if everything was ok until the end of the meal. The restaurant itself was cool, but ultimately the prices would prevent us from returning.

Yelp
We did take out over Labor Day and Great Gold was the motherlode of good food. Ordered the spicy pep pizza, the arugula prosciutto pizza, plain cheese, the chicken, roast peppers and the broccolini for kids and adults. The food was ready on time, piping hot when we got it home and really really good. Even on Labor Day wknd. The pizza is so far from traditional Truckee-take-n-bake that it was really an unexpected treat. Thin crust toothy and delish crust (a la Flour + Water), and flavorful toppings. However, the big surprise was that the chicken and veggies and salad were equally as good as the 'za, if not even better. You would not go wrong to order non-pizza entrees and compliment it with a little pizza, instead of the other way around. Looking fwd to visiting and dining in at GG in the future.
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service! We had the tomato bread, sunflower Caesar, heirloom tomatoes and mushroom pizza. All very good. We sat inside which is a little dark and loud. But very alive, this place is a local favorite.

Yelp
Disappointing experience while on vacation. We had a reservation for 6 people. The restaurant was busy when we got there. The food (mostly pasta and pizza) took about an hour to be served. It was a late dinner reservation, so had to spend about 30 mins with crying kids. Not ideal for sure. The server and hostess apologized at the end of the evening. They did not charge us for the 2 entrees came out about 15 mins after the rest of the dinner. But even without the delay, I felt the dinner was over priced. The entrees did not include any sides which had to be ordered separately. The sides were expensive and the serving sizes were small. The ambience was not great either. The place is loud and it's hard to have a conversation. We picked this restaurant off yelp. So have to leave this review because I think you can find better alternatives!

Yelp
Amazing food and great service. Thank you Love the selection of pizza different and so tasty. The pasta dishes rock. Definitely try them out. Recommend the specials

Yelp
Great food. Expensive food. The take-out situation is hit or miss. Have had two less-than-ideal situations of (1) a completely lost order, or (2) one that is made too late and not coordinated. DO NOT PAY VIA TOASTTAB. I created an online order and elected to pay via ToastTab, since I knew I had an account. Received a "ready time" of 52 minutes. My friend ordered from same website but paid on the site. He ordered 10 min after me, and it was ready in 30 minutes. We arrive in 25 min and his pizza is already ready. My order took another 25 minutes, for a total order to ready time of about 65 minutes. It was frustrating.

Yelp
This is an awesome Italian restaurant!!! Worth coming from anywhere in NorCal to Truckee just for this restaurant!!

Yelp
Top attentive service-fresh local ingredients, ample servings. Located in the business industrial location of Truckee. Outdoor seating, modern indoor dining room and bar area. Enjoyed our meal here tonight. The flavors were spicy and tasty, fresh and flavorful. We were not rushed, which we appreciated. Lots of Italian wines to choose from as well as specialty drink and beers. Many families and groups filled the space. Nice playlists which are featured nightly. Ample Italian bottles of wine from many regions of Italy!

Yelp
Amazing Gormet pizza close to Lake Tahoe! Expensive but worth the taste!! Got takeout!

Kimmie M.

Yelp
I'm in love with this food...I crave it! I live in the Bay Area, but I get to spend some time throughout the year in Truckee. This place should be on everyone's list of "places to have a delicious meal". The food NEVER disappoints. My recommendation for picking out something tasty that you will enjoy; if it sounds good...order it! If you sit at the bar, hopefully Jessie gets to help you out! She's so patient and so sweet! I always leave this place being a member of the "clean plate club". Ha! Pro Note: if you know you are going to dine here in advance...make a reservation!!!! They are always busy, and I feel like that has a lot to say about the food as well. Parking is also easy! Yay! Enjoy!

Yelp
Thank you for a special evening for my partner's birthday. You all went above and beyond in writing him a surprise birthday card signed by all of the staff members (after following through on my booking request to sit at the bar). Jessie was our server and also added to the magic by knowing it was his birthday.

Yelp
Delicious food and good service. We had two pasta dishes and enjoyed them both. Good portions and nice atmosphere. They have a nice wine list and not too far off the main drag. We will be back to try the pizza next time!

Yelp
Come to this spot every weekend and LOVE IT. Came tonight and regrettably, did not make a reservation (on us, although this has never been a problem before). Although this is our favorite place in town, unfortunately we were met with an incredibly unwelcome presence by the host at the front. Initial greeting regarding a 30 minute wait quickly turned 45 min. with an unprompted attitude(?). Totally unfortunate as we would have gladly waited 30 minutes+ given this has been our favorite spot to frequent this past year. Tonight we had brought a friend in our party, excited to show him our local spot. He surely would have loved it (as we do), and likely would have brought his local friends along in weeks to come. Totally unfortunate experience thanks to the host of the night. Disappointed.

Yelp
This place!!!! Finally. Something in truckee that really really had me just saying, "wow!" I've never had GF pasta that is this good. Literally. Perfection. Seriously so darn good. Nothing was left. The pistachio affogato was a dangerous combination paired with the cardamaro that was a fantastic finisher. For starts the carpaccio was fabulous. The chopped salad was fresh and delish! I seriously was stoked with every single dish. My fiancé and I love good food, but are really into the experience which includes great service. Luisa was our server and she was absolutely memorable and pleasant. She was engaging, knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection, and was funny! Great combo. All around a wonderful post engagement dinner! Thank you for having us. I'd highly recommend!

Yelp
First visit with husband and daughter this Saturday and it wouldn't be our last. Service super friendly and attentive. Our wait person changed out our plates after the appetizer and checked in on us. Food is spectacular. Pork belly meatballs and the pork chop is heaven. Meatballs were flavorful and fluffy and the pork chop was perfectly brined with a nice crust, moist and paired with the hazelnut sauce is unforgettable. Bucatini and the special of the night Tortellini is amazing, the flavors ignited our senses! Ended with tiramisu and sorbet and again it's so good. This establishment does an awesome job and a perfect additional to the area. I will be sure to return with friends and family!

Yelp
Came today for my partner's birthday. Reservation form asked if the visit was for a special occasion and I filled out that we are coming to celebrate a birthday, so I would assume some special treatment or at least a happy birthday from a hostess, but that was missing. Food was delicious, however we didn't expect seafood appetizer to be breaded, as it wasn't indicated in the description. Our dinner ended up being a bit dry, as we also ordered two pizzas. Tiramisu at the end was tasty and moist, which helped out a bit. We also had trouble hearing each other, restaurant was full, there was pretty loud club-style music playing in the background and there were no soft surfaces to absorb the noise. We were hoping for something more cozy. I see how this creates a city feel, but it just wasn't what we envisioned or were in the mood for. Overall it was a good experience, but far from a great experience that we expected for such a high price tag.

Yelp
Some of the best food I've had in Truckee. Everything was excellent. I would order it all again (focaccia bread, and calamari not pictured) EPIC. Everything was fresh and felt like love was put into it. The service was phenomenal everyone was very friendly. The ambience is on point. MUSIC PLAYING EPIC. We did sit on the patio outside, inside was very elegant as well and would sit inside if I was on a date! Make a reservation...

Yelp
Good food... But surcharge, paying for healthcare is out of line. Won't go back. Now employee gets tip cut.

Yelp
Super thankful to the Great Gold team for accommodating our large party on a weekend! My friends had come here the week before and raved about this place, so we absolutely had to go back with the bigger group. Overall I thought it was a very good option for the Truckee area. Fritto Misto - super tasty fried seafood, this was amazing! Was just the right mix of lightly fried + retained the juiciness and tenderness of the plump calamari, shrimp, and oysters Cacio e Pepe - I personally loved this, but the group thought it was a tad bit salty Clam Linguine - this was one of the dishes that my group had raved about from their past visit. I thought it was tasty, but they might have over-hyped it. Worth a try if you like lighter sauces and clams in your pasta, think they could have served it a little bit warmer as well Pizza Bianca - this was done beautifully and quite tasty! Probably not on the tier of Cotogna or Delfina's pizza, but again, delicious nonetheless We also got a chance to try both the Tiramisu (solid) and the Tuscan Sundae (i love a good ice cream with olive oil). Definitely visit here if in the Truckee area!

Yelp
Came here for a post ski feast with friends, and left satisfied. You know they are serious when you see the build in traditional pizza oven. It's more of a Neil Politan style with thin crust and flavorful topping. We enjoy the mushroom pizza a lot, as well as the duck ragu pasta. The only thing we probably won't get again is the branzino, a bit over priced and the flavor was just a so so. Tiramisu, and Affogato were nice completions to the meal. Overall was happy to find a such great Italian flavors in a small town. They did add 6% charge to cover employees health benefits, which I guess was common in California these days.

Yelp
Shockingly well constructed menu, with exceptional pastas, thoughtful appetizers, & refined pizzas. 4.5 stars (but I rounded up). Service is noticeably better than anything else in Truckee and the space is stunning but simple. Make a reservation or come early to what is the best Italian in Lake Tahoe.

Yelp
We came here for a group dinner with some friends and sat right in front of the action. At the recommendation of our waitress we ordered family style so we could try a bit of everything, and were so glad we did! Everything was delicious- my favorite was the kale salad, probably the best I have ever tasted! We also had pizzas and two gluten free pastas - I couldn't tell the difference. Great cocktail and wine list too. Only drawback was it was super noisy - but if you don't mind that it's a great place to eat in Truckee!

Yelp
Tahoe Truckee is one of the hardest places to find a good restaurant, but Great Gold has made it on my list! Located in the industrial area of Truckee, Great Gold is tucked in a quiet row of businesses. The outdoor covered patio which you see first, is right of the entrance where a large indoor room faces the kitchen and a giant tiled dome pizza oven. What is striking for me first of all is the quality of the staff. Every time I have eaten here, the servers have been kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and they provide the best experience from beginning to end. I suspect the reason for the quality staff is due to the owner's attention in providing healthcare via the extra surcharge at the end of the bill. Of course the food matches the service. The prize goes to their pizza. The crust is the most important base to any pizza. If you screw that up, then everything else is a waste of time. Part of this great gold crust has to be the great oven. At the same time, the ingredients on top of the pizza are unique. Each time, there is a new pizza to try as well as their popular pizzas. I also have ordered the meatballs twice, once with the meatballs dropped into the red sauce and the other time the red sauce separate. I would suggest the red sauce on the side, since this prevents the meatballs from totally drowning and loosing their own flavor. The fritto misto was light and crunchy with a green sauce on the side, very delicate and exciting to eat. From food to service, Great Gold has made a star on my map in the Tahoe Truckee area.
