San Diego's Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants

"Tucked between storefronts, a long hallway leads to the cozy, covered patio of this La Jolla café, where chef Martin Hall transforms organic vegetables into seasonal soups and sandwiches. Standout dishes range from the popular Bombay burger to cashew cream-topped Cinnabon pancakes. Even the side salad accompanying most meals is boldly crafted, featuring dressed cabbage, delicate pea tendrils, and a scattering of roasted fennel, sesame, and sunflower seeds." - Kelly Bone

20 Vegan Burgers To Try in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"The monochromatic presentation hides the complexity of chef Martin Hall’s signature Bombay Bomb Burger at Green Door Cafe. With hints of Indian curry, the burger travels through the subcontinent on a wheat bun with an upper layer of tart apple mayo and a base of chipotle spread. It is served with paprika potatoes and a thoughtful side salad in this secret garden of La Jolla." - Kelly Bone

Google
It's a 3.5 stars overall. We ordered a salad and sandwich/soup combo. While tasty, I would not able to say that the food was amazing or exceptional. The outdoor patio is cool and the corridor to the restaurant makes this a quiet and calm place to eat. The food quality is good. Value for money = 3

Google
Wow! What a find! Great food, atmosphere and friendly service. A huge selection of vegan food, this 100 percent plant-based eatery is surely one for your address book. We had their coconut bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato on toasted sourdough which came with their tomato bisque soup. Delightful! I added the kombucha - orange and passion fruit beverage to which an alcohol of choice can be added. Large vegan wine selection, too. While street parking can be challenging on weekends, it's worth the effort. This place has my highest recommendation!

Google
Definitely a hidden gem!! All the food we had was spot on. We opted for the happy hour tapas menu and tried just about everything. It was all delicious and came out of the kitchen fresh, and in good time.

Google
Our dining experience was one of the healthiest we've ever had eating out and the food was delicious too. Their desserts are made with healthier sweetening ingredients. The staff was pleasant and answered all our questions. They accept credit cards, but cash works better for this Cafe. The atmosphere is pleasant and calming. Don't hesitate to give this Cafe a try. Enjoy.

Google
Nice vegan restaurant in La Jolla. We visited this place in a Sunday afternoon for lunch while we were in La Jolla. We were one of the first groups there, and were asked to pick any table we liked, and order food at the counter once we were ready (the host/ server handed us a couple of menus). We order the 'Bomb' Burger, the Pesto Panini (which came with a cup of the soup of the day, which was Tomato Basil), a glass of Cranberry Kombucha and a Detoxer juice. Service was fairly slow as there were only 2 folks running the cafe as it was Christmas Eve (service would have been likely better on other days). All the food we ordered was great: (1) the 'Bomb' Burger had a non 'Impossible' burger patty that was made using fresh vegetables and served with a vegan chipotle aioli (2) the Pesto Panini, similarly, had vegan chipotle aioli and vegan pesto sauce. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the food was seasoned well. Would definitely come here again if I was in the area.

Google
This is more than a cafe/eatery. You will find yourself inspired by the thoughtfully created dishes using whole plant foods. There’s nothing fake or faux here - I loved it. The “sausage” on the flatbread was my absolute favorite (well, side by side to the cashew cheesecake). Also, keep an eye out, there are classes held here! I don’t live here so, it’s on my birthday list and we will see when I can plan a special trip in.

Google
Martin and Green Door Cafe have a special place in my heart! The entire experience is lovely at this restaurant. They have creative menu items, a cozy indoor space and a charming courtyard. I highly recommend their desserts, pasta dish, and afternoon tea — you really can’t go wrong with the offering of vegan delights here! They also have live music on Sunday afternoons.

Google
The restaurant ist very sweet and quiet located. Its all vegan and the food options are focused more on good quality wholesome food instead of regular more fast foodisch. For me the food were missing a little of flavour.

Yelp
We were in La Jolla for a spa event at LivKraft, and wanted to have dinner nearby after checking out the Parisien bakery across the street (highly recommended BTW). So we stopped at the Green Door Cafe to grab a quick bite, and noticed they had a happy hour from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., which had appetizers including sambusas and potato dill fritters. The sambusa appetizer came with threes and buses, one was potato, one was spinach, and one was lentils with a swing sour sauce and some pieces of lettuce. The potato dill fritter came with a little salsa. We weren't very hungry, and just wanted to try their appetizers for their friend highly recommended this place, and it was great. Everything is vegan. There's an outdoor patio area, with small tables, and parking was very easy. The service was great.

Yelp
My friend and I were walking in the area and decided to pop our heads in for a quick bite to eat. So glad we did! Chef Martin was friendly and attentive. Everything is vegan/vegetarian but so packed with flavor, you wouldn't even notice! The portions are large and filling so it's more than enough to share. It was also very peaceful and clean outdoors, perfect to enjoy some sunshine. We will be back soon!

Yelp
I went to UCSD to attend a talk by Dr. Greger and came here for brunch afterwards. We found out that Dr. Greger had breakfast at Green Door Cafe before heading to the university as well. I had been hearing a lot about this place and I am glad I finally got a chance to check it out. The Cuban Reuben was a favorite among the group. I got a side of the coconut bacon which was delicious. I would love to go back and try the dinner menu. This is an adorable place, walking distance from the La Jolla Cove. We all walked down to the beach and even got the opportunity to watch the beautiful sunset.

Yelp
I went to the green door cafe to sit outside and have a glass of wine? The patio is eclectic and cute. Very inviting. I had Pinot Grigio and enjoyed it. I was impressed with the varied vegan menu. They serve high tea, make expresso drinks, appetizers and make lasagna! The server was very welcoming and nice. I will go back for a meal.

Yelp
Very cute vegan cafe in La Jolla, decorated with lots of plants and feels very homey and also gave me old diner vibes. Met up with some friends and we all ordered the pesto panini, it comes with a soup. We also ordered the red velvet pancakes to share and it was yummy! One of my friends can't eat gluten so we were so glad they had some GF options! Always a plus. I had the golden milk latte and it was soothing for the cold day. We stayed for hours just chatting, the place has a very chill ambiance and home-made feel.

Yelp
No longer there. It is an empty space. We walked there and were disappointed. Don't know if they have moved or just shut down

Yelp
We stopped by Green Door for vegan high tea and it was delicious!! The owner was amazingly nice and the savory platter in particular was top notch! They have an extensive menu and we'll be back!

Yelp
I love the food so much at The Green Door. They make all their meals with love. And I feel like I'm eating at home. Its unfortunate it is next to Trilogy Restaurant with all It's extras. but,as far as food goes The Green Door Restaurant is light years better. I'm writing this review so more people will eat there because I hardly ever see many people there. I don't want it to close. We need to step it up and support even though the seating isn't perfect. Check out the deserts the Bomb Burger, and salads..

Yelp
Note: I started this review pre-Covid, and didn't realize I hadn't finished it. So I'm not sure if this still applies but here is what I wrote back in early 2020: I really enjoyed the food here... I got the BBQ portobello burger which was really good and the mashed potatoes and the kale chips we're fantastic too. I wasn't as crazy about the salad but my companion loved it. The desserts looked amazing too but we didn't try one this time. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and our favorite part was the live music from guitarist Freddy -- super nice guy and a PHENOMENAL musician. We would love to go back on Friday nights, which is when Freddy plays.

Yelp
Was walking in the area with my mother and ran into this cute spot. The plantation appealed to us and we were getting hungry from our walk. Considered it an appetite and cute spot to talk and relax. Our host was very helpful and kind.

Yelp
My friend works in the area and found this cute place to have vegan high noon tea! It was $39 per person for 3 courses and $45 per person if you wanted a gluten free version. We were seated outside in the courtyard and our table was set up to have our first course. The choices for tea was hibiscus, Jasmine green, earl grey, and English breakfast. I really liked the hibiscus one and added some sugar. The second course were savory pancakes with chipotle, carrot and chive sausages with mango chutney, leek and chard quiche, lox bagel, pumpkin and chive pate on toast, and portabella wasabi trimmed sandwich. I liked the variety and choices were interesting. The portions seemed small, but were very filling. The last course was dessert and we got the ultimate carrot cake, chocolate dipped macaroons, lemon tarts, and buttered scones with jam and cream. One girl in our group chose the gluten-free version, so she got a bunch of desserts all to herself. Service was nice and atmosphere was welcoming. I had a nice time here and it's definitely a hidden gem in La Jolla!

Yelp
Happy surprise. My wife and I were looking for vegan breakfast in the Village a couple weekends ago, before the start of the Christmas Parade. Been thinking of trying Green Door and decided that it was finally time. Plenty of room, friendly staff/server. Seated in the back, looked over the menu and decided on a mocha, a matcha, and two breakfast burritos. The drinks were very good, and the burritos were even better. Love finding a place that is ALL vegan and has excellent food. 5 stars.

Yelp
Early in January 2024, three of us walked into the Green Door Cafe. Although my wife is interested in vegetarian/vegan cuisine, my friend and I are avowed omnivores. I know this fact will color the reception of some vegetarians and vegans to this review, but I hope that the review will raise even more eyebrows among my fellow omnivores. In a (vegetarian/vegan) nutshell, the food was superb. We started with the BRUSCHETTA. It was delicious. For the entree, my wife ordered the PENNE ALFREDO, my fellow omnivore ordered the DAHL CURRY, and I had the BOMBAY BOMB BURGER, which came with a salad and a side of roast potatoes. My companions enjoyed their meals very much. I did not taste their food, but I devoured mine, and I can report that the burger was wonderful, though to call it a burger simply does not do it justice. I never tasted a dish that had so many flavors. I followed the advice of several YELP reviewers, and I chose to replace the bun with the savory pancakes; it was a great idea. For dessert, we had the CARROT CAKE and the MACAROONS. They were scrumptious. The ambiance was cozy. On top of that, our server was extremely friendly and attentive, and we were joined at our table for a brief time by Martin, the chef, who also happens to be the owner. Vegetarians and vegans, be prepared to add another jewel to your dining crown. Fellow omnivores, prepare your palates for a delightful assault!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA but I am often unable to make it as they close at 5 PM. I've never been disappointed. My parents were visiting me from abroad and they also enjoyed it a lot. The bite sized tiramisu was a such a pleasant surprise.

Yelp
Martin is an incredible chef... nice person; lovely and relaxing environment... great vegan food!! A+++++

Yelp
Went here for a birthday celebration. I had to find a place that had gluten free and vegan options for the birthday woman. I hit the nail on the head. This place was cute and hidden away like a bug in a rug. The staff was so friendly and helpful and if all vegan food tasted like this I would be 100% in.

Yelp
We tried their Bomb Burger on Savory Pancakes (GF), green smoothie and the carrot cake. There was so much flavor yet you could tell that only fresh ingredients from scratch created those dishes.i definitely recommend.

Yelp
We got lucky and came during happy hour, $7 tapas ! You can tell everything was made from love from how delicious everything was. The sambusa trio was perfection, we ordered two rounds of it and of the jackfruit tacos as well. They had so much flavor.. the sambusas were fresh and crispy, sauce on the side made perfect combination. The taco tortillas, I could eat on its own, but everything in the taco sang in harmony-- they were light but fulfilling. We also got the pumpkin walnut pate and the carrot chive sausages with mango chutney, such good textures and flavors. Staff was super friendly, cool, warm and inviting. Might be my new regular vegan spot for sure !

Yelp
Green Door Cafe is such a vibe! It's an alley in the wall cafe with tons of greenery and cute vibes to match. We tried the French toast and a flatbread. The French toast (while small) was absolutely packed with flavor! I highly recommend giving it a try! On the other hand, the flatbread wasn't for me. Next time I'll definitely try something else -- there's so many vegan options to choose from!

Yelp
Do yourself a big favor. Eat here ASAP. Martin is a great chef, genius, vegan and GF local produce and absolutely stunning food NOT to mention he is totally environmentally friendly. Prices are amazing for the quality and care that goes into his food. The place is cute and has natural lights and plants around. This is a one of a kind restaurant experience.

Yelp
Had a delicious dinner with great service in a very cool setting tonight! I loved the Green Door Cafe. We shared an appetizer of sweet potato pancakes with a chipotle sauce that we both loved. Each component of my main dish, which was brown rice pasta Alfredo with sun dried tomatoes and broccoli, which also included a flavorful Caesar salad, was well thought out and yummy. I was really happy to hear that 85% of the ingredients used are source locally from various farmers markets and food co-ops. My friend and I both got the Apple jasmine kombucha which was so good. My friend enjoyed her main course also ! We were too full for dessert, but we were tempted because they looked great!

Yelp
The lavender latte was delicious and the lavender flavor was perfectly balanced. The cinnabon pancakes were the best pancakes I've ever had, vegan or not. My husband who is usually reluctant to try vegan food loved the breakfast burrito and said it was so flavorful. Friendly helpful staff and cute quiet atmosphere. I'm not vegan but I've recently had to go completely dairy-free, so vegan is easier. That being said, I would definitely recommend this place even if you don't consider yourself vegan or vegetarian. Just delicious food regardless!

Yelp
This cafe has great outdoor dining that allows customers to feel safe and socially distant! Our server, Dylan, was amazing! He helped us pick several of the menu items for us to try and take home. Overall, the food was pretty good. The best was the Cuban Reuben- by FAR. All of the plates we tried tasted very fresh and we could taste all of the different ingredients. Be careful with the Mac and cheese though- it really stained our teeth yellow and we went to buy a toothbrush from Vons next door after our meal. The reason I'm giving this restaurant a 4/5 is for not specifying allergens on the menu. Many of their plates have hidden/traces of nuts in them, which is not noted on the menu. Unfortunately, we found this out the hard way. I had a pretty significant allergic reaction to a few of the plates and wish that allergens would be disclosed on the menu. After the meal, we did not feel weighed down or sluggish. It is beyond apparent that this restaurant uses clean ingredients. We will return in the future.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
This restaurant is open for patio seating during the pandemic. The staff were wearing masks and there was social distancing measures. I ordered the vegan burger with no bun and my guest ordered the savory pancakes. Everything was so delicious and tasted freshly made from scratch. The service was friendly and welcoming. The ambiance on the patio was nice with good music playing. They have a pet friendly patio and my dog loved sitting with us. The gender-neutral restroom was sparkling clean and well maintained. THANK YOU for having a restroom open for guests! Everything was super healthy and super delicious. I would definitely return and recommend to others! Thank you for the excellent friendly service and delicious food!

Yelp
Two of us shared 3 dishes.... The Cuban Reuben, CBLAT and The Pesto Panini. I can honestly say that every single thing was absolutely perfect. The handmade margaritas are made with fresh blood oranges. Beautiful space, fantasic service, delicious ALL VEGAN food and a chilled out vibe. Wander in and enjoy!

Rae D.

Yelp
Delicious and the ambiance was so relaxing. On a Sunday when we came they had a musician playing guitar. Would definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Creative, fun, healthy you can find all of this and more at the Green Door Cafe. This cute little cafe is tucked right off one of the main shopping streets in downtown La Jolla. We ordered the vegan locks bagel, and vegan carrot cake. Marinated carrots were used to replace the salmon in the bagel which was very yummy. Homemade vegan cream cheese was also a nice touch. The carrot cake was one of the best that I have had anywhere (vegan or not). While spending a day shopping and exploring in La Jolla pop into the Green Door Cafe for a memorable meal!
google avatar

Dr Joanne C.

Yelp
Oh my gosh amazing and healthy food! The golden latte was some of the best! The house salad is no ordinary salad!!!! The Reuben - wow! And Martin the chef was super and awake and lovely!!! Don't leave without the pepita parm to go!
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
This is a cute spot with a narrow outdoor seating area and a pretty large menu. I was excited to try the vegan high tea so I could sample a bunch of items. I ordered inside at the counter and my tea and savory items were brought out first. The plate had a savory pancake, a carrot & chive sausage with mango chutney, a piece of leek & chard quiche, a lox bagel, and two different finger sandwiches. My favorites were the sausage, which was very unique and tasty, and the pancake. The lox bagel had great flavor and the quiche had a nice crust. I liked one of the finger sandwiches better than the other, but the bread on both tasted a bit stale to me. I think maybe it was toasted a bit and by the time it got to me, it had hardened a little. The sweets were taking a long time to come out after I finished the savory items, so I had to go in and ask. I didn't want my food to get stuck behind all the other orders that were being taken. I got the impression that they were understaffed, so I wasn't too bothered by the wait. It finally came and there was a chocolate dipped macaroon, a scone with jam and cream, a lemony tart, and a carrot cake. I loved everything except the scone, which was tasteless and not really the texture of a scone. I'm very happy I got to try everything and would definitely come back.

Yelp
We found a insect from our sandwich!!!! Yes, a live insect for people like us who are vegan !!!! It was so hard for others in the party to finish the lunch. Also, portion size are very small. They asked us to replace the dish and we did not feel like eating any more... This place was good in past but now the quality is degraded. Please improve

Elsie M.

Yelp
Food was incredible! We tried the burger and the artichoke dip which were amazing. It is so cute in the little courtyard and such a peaceful atmosphere. The chef and (and owner I believe) came out to say hello and ask us about our meal and our time in La Jolla. Lovely!!!

Yelp
What a great hidden gem in La Jolla! My best friend and I were looking for Vegan restaurants near La Jolla Cove and found this great find! We went on a Sunday mid afternoon and finding parking is based on luck; you may be lucky enough to find a space or a person leaving one. At the entrance, you will find menus posted and you order your food inside. There were plenty of seats outdoors, as well as seating indoors. We ordered a Cuban Reuben, Mac and Cheese and a Detoxer blended drink. As a meat-eater, i thought the food was fantastic! The Cuban Reuben is something I would recommend if you something a little spicy. The portions were great, and it is enough to split with someone if you just want something light. Each dish came with some delicious roasted potatoes and some salad on the side. The Detoxer was great too! We sat inside and you can actually see the servers make all the restaurant's juices with fresh ingredients. While the bill rang up to $44 for all of our items, it was worth it! Delicious food, fresh ingredients, and supporting a small business (especially after the COVID pandemic). I highly recommend this place to vegans and meat-eaters alike. I will definitely be back to try their other plates!

Yelp
My friend and I dined here on a random weekday afternoon. No one was there but us, so service was quick! We ordered at the counter and chose a table on their outside patio which had spots of sun coming through. The server brought us our food. The restaurant is long and narrow, so the counter to order is all the way in the back. You walk through a ton of tables and then there are more tables inside where the counter is. Everything was HEALTHY. You could tell there were no fake ingredients in anything. The red velvet pancakes had a dense texture and were perfectly sweet. The alfredo penne didn't really taste like alfredo. They could definitely work on that recipe. The greens that came on the plate were very good. Whatever dressing they use .. I need! The blueberry dessert was excellent! Super soft and flavorful. I also had a lavender latte. It was ok. Didn't have enough lavender in it. Overall, good food and friendly, quick service. I would definitely dine here again!

Yelp
Best vegan food in San Diego...hands down! I went to this hidden gem for a birthday brunch. I am not vegan, but the combination and layering of flavors I experienced was out of this world! I almost licked my plate clean of the Bomb Bombay Burger (go for the savory pancake option)...the plant based patty along with the apple mustard and chipotle sauce was FANTASTIC! It was also served with a side of potatoes and salad. I also tried the French Toast which was classic and delicious. Such a wholesome meal that energized me for the whole day. Don't walk...RUN to Green Door Cafe!

Charles C.

Yelp
The food is wonderful, everything is made fresh to your order by the chef/owner. We have been four times now and enjoyed every item that we ordered. The wines and draft beers served here are well chosen and fairly priced. The space is comfortable and quiet with a shaded outdoor seating area if you desire. Green Door is a welcome relief from the high pressure corporate restaurants that now dominate La Jolla. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Madison W.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with my family and the ambiance was so calming and warm. The service was great as he was really nice and the food was incredibly unique--completely vegetarian but full of flavor. Definitely would recommend this place!

Yelp
Sorry, as always I didn't have the patience or presence of mind to take a picture before tearing into the food. This is one of those places that's serious about being vegan. Lots of plants, artifacts, art pieces, colors. No plastic straws, paper cups, or anything even milk in the coffee. That last one I always trip on. The food was great though, both the pesto panini and the avocado toast were wonderful. Lots of other intriguing choices as well. The staff was very friendly although a tad bit slow but that might have just been a glitch in our case.
google avatar

Layla L.

Yelp
The server brought me the wrong salad but only realized after he left and I'd taken a bite and a few bites of the bread. The salad he brought had WAY too much dressing so I asked that when they bring my salad they put it on the side, which they did not and it also had WAAAY too much dressing, like swimming in vinegar. They also gave me the same piece of basic white bread that I'd chewed up, transferred to this plate- classy. They took the seconds salad back and again brought a salad with dressing mixed in, but less, idk did they just wipe off the leaves lol?? The bread was gone this time Not worth $15 at all, esp since there was no protein. Ugh I guess it's because it's La Jolla...
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
The owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met. So kind and welcoming. Impeccable food, drink, atmosphere; what more could you want?!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
I thought it was delicious here. We shared the coconut bacon BLT and the breakfast burrito. Both were really tasty, as was the beet detoxer juice. I'd definitely eat here again! For the price point, I'd say that the side soup and side salad were not terribly exciting, but in general, it was a lovely and yummy meal on their pretty patio.

Julie G.

Yelp
The ambiance is great, live music, well decorated, and somehow feels secluded in a busy area. The food itself was very small portions for high prices, but that is likely due to the quality of the ingredients. The service is friendly and quick, but because of the portion size I would likely not return when I'm especially hungry

Zachary W.

Yelp
Wow y'all are definitely the hidden gem in La Jolla. If I could I would eat here everyday. The service, hands down the best in La Jolla. Approachable and happy to see us. Ambiance was very nice calming music. I felt like I was in another country away from the hustle and bustle. I hope more people find you guys. Show them some love this place is top notch

Yelp
I am a frequent flier at Trilogy for their food and used to be for their classes, but I never noticed this small cafe tucked in the building. It is literally right next to Trilogy Sanctuary. Even though I called my order ahead of time and gave them an extra 10 minutes before arriving to pick up the order, it still was not ready. Luckily, it was a Sunday and we were in no rush. Moreover, the environment provides a calm, welcoming aura so I did not feel impatient about the situation. This cafe does make everything fresh and there seemed to be only two people working at the time. A nice gentleman, the owner came out from the small kitchen to apologize for the delay. My advice is to not expect the food to be fast because I can tell a lot of care went into the takeaway order. The Savory Pancakes and the Bombay Burger are really tasty. The flavors of this place is sort of influenced by India. I enjoy how the swirl of savory goes well with the fresh salad the main dish comes with. Also, the food is savory, without being salty. Because this cafe serves such healthy and fresh food, my appetite is satisfied quite long even though the serving size is just right instead of enormous.

Yelp
When my boyfriend is in town, we always try to find new vegan spots! We found this gem on yelp & I am SO glad we tried it! It was hands down the best vegan food I've had in a long time. I ordered the pesto panini plate with cashew mozzarella and it was fantastic & full of flavor! The carrot ginger soup was perfectly balanced as well & the citrus salad is something I could eat every day. My boyfriend had the Bombay bomb burger with a double savory pancake and it was the best vegan burger I've ever had in my life as I kept trying to steal bites. Truly. Just exploding with flavor & so much depth. I cannot recommend this combo enough as you do have the option of a whole wheat bun but can opt for a savory pancake (open face) or double. We left feeling satiated and feeling comfortable which is my favorite part of the vegan experience -- you can tell the quality of a place when you leave feeling AWESOME! Oh, and of course, they are practicing all Covid guidelines and we sat outside. I didn't even care that it's during this horrible heat wave we are experiencing, the food was THAT SUPERB!

Yelp
Best vegan food in San Diego without a doubt. Fresh ingredients. Whole foods. Green door Cafe has left an imprint on me because of their deliciously savory dishes that are made with real and healthy ingredients. My personal favorite is the bomb burger. This burger alone is my favorite vegan burger I've ever had (and I've had a lot). There are too many vegan restaurants around that do not focus on the quality of ingredients or are too soy based for me. The cafe is also very vibrant and home feeling. The owner and the staff are very welcoming. If you're ever in San Diego and looking for filling vegan food that not only tastes amazing but will fill you up and that you can feel good about then you must come here. I live 5 minutes away from this place and I am the type of person to drive to Hollywood to eat at one of my favorite vegan restaurants. So leaving this review is not something I would leave lightly (I have not even left a review at the restaurant I'm referring to in Hollywood). They are doing something different and authentic here. Can't wait to keep coming back

Yelp
Cute spot for brunch/lunch! We found out that the items on the menu were vegan and got excited as a lot of their options sounded really good! I got the tacos and it was really yummy! The workers were also sweet and helpful.

Yelp
We had the Pesto Panini and the Full Tank sandwich. Both plates had a cup of Tomato Basil soup with them. Such wonderful and fresh amazing food with fabulous service. Green Door is a very special little cafe with great ambiance. Impressive vegan dessert list.

Yelp
Green door is located in lovely La Jolla ca. It's a place where everyone can come to enjoy organic and local foods. Everything is sugar, gluten, and dairy-free. They have a bar; they offer an array of different options including vegan French toast, vegan Mac n cheese, and vegan tacos. They no longer serve Ratatouille. They also serve desserts. Nonetheless, I fancied a burger and stumbled upon this whimsical place. They had a sign that had words that captured my attention words including organic, vegan, and gluten free. The menu had some great options to choose from. I consider myself plantbased and mosied on inside. You walk through this very quaint courtyard with tables and plants in every direction. They use the herbs grown on their wall garden in their kitchen. I reached the front with friendly greetings. I had an inkling of what I wanted to try after viewing the menu out front but I asked what the top three meals were anyway. One of the three options included The Bombay bomb vegan curry burger and that is what I ordered. The way it works is you order, pay, and then find seating. I originally sat inside but after the restroom and before my food arrived I decided it was such a beautiful day that sitting outside in the courtyard was a good decision. I needed a plot twist anyway. The Bombay bomb vegan curry burger has about 30 ingredients that make up this burger; it's served on a whole wheat bun with spicy red paprika potatoes, kale chips and seasonal salad. It is gluten-free meal. They really pay attention to detail as did I with all the flavors and presentation. The green door utilizes innovative low heat, which is quite impressive especially since high heat usually kills all the vitamins and nutrients. There is a small buffet option but otherwise everything is made fresh to order. It took a moment (low heat techniques) but I was in no rush it was awesome being in this beautiful space. It is a bit dated but it doesn't take away from the exquisiteness. When my dish arrived it was love at first sight--Yes, I'm still talking about food. Savory potato bun pancake bun, kale chips, paprika potatoes, and seasonal salad as advertised in menu. Everything was coming together nicely; I had a glass of water, my food, and my silverware in front of me. I had a kale chip first and then had some of the paprika potatoes, wow! I took a bite out of the Bombay curry burger and let me tell you that that was one amazing bite! I took another and then another. From the nuts to the herbs to the spices, I could detect so much flavor! Then I vegan or began rather, to think about the 30 ingredients it took to make this burger. I can tell love was the main ingredient, that would make it 31! The seasonal salad was also incredible--a splendid adventure! I had no room for dessert but I was happily Plant fueled. So veggie good!! You can walk or skip to this place if you like but I suggest you run! There is street parking available "People must know what you care to care what you know!" -unknown

Yelp
Green Door Cafe is right next door to where I do aerial yoga. If you're looking for a different vegan restaurant option, I would definitely give this place a try! It just opened up when my friend and I stopped by after yoga. I ordered their special for the day, the chilaquiles. It was delicious. I also ordered a smoothie which really hit the spot on the warm, sunny day when we were eating outside. I can imagine not that many people know about this place since it's a little tucked away. I highly recommend stopping by here next time you're in La Jolla. Food and service were excellent!
