We took a long driving trip thru the New England coastal area all the way up to Maine. One of the many overnight stops we made was Portland. We researched this restaurant before we left home and it was better than expected. We ordered several dishes at lunch and we shared all. Very nice.

Google
Green Elephant is an absolute gem! It’s incredibly hard to find a place that serves truly excellent Thai food, and even more rare to find one that’s entirely vegetarian and vegan-friendly. But Green Elephant absolutely delivers! Every dish I tried was packed with bold flavors and fresh ingredients. Their vegan options are outstanding—thoughtfully prepared and incredibly delicious. Whether you’re plant-based or not, you’ll find something to love here. The desserts are also a must-try, with a great selection that perfectly complements the meal. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. I had an amazing experience and can’t wait to come back. If you’re in Portland and looking for exceptional Thai-inspired cuisine, Green Elephant is the place to go!

Google
Fantastic food and an amazing time here! My family ordered the basil fried rice and the dreamy noodle soup, and was one of the most best meals I have had in my entire life. To add, the customer service was spectacular, with the lady in charge giving us feedback on some of her favorite delicacies on the menu. Had a wonderful time and would definitely like to come back!!

Google
First time at Green Elephant as we’ve been wanting to try for some time and finally decided to stop in. We had such a wonderful experience all across the board from great customer service, cozy & quaint vibes to the amazing food. I tried the Green Curry Tofu and Absolutely loved it such Flavor and a generous portion. My husband and I will definitely return!

Updating after return visit 6 years later (I'm fr the West Coast and happy to find you still thriving!). I ordered the special, mushroom bowl and a side of salad rolls. The rolls were so fresh, the best I've ever had. The bowl was amazing w veggies cooked to perfection, and complex flavors that complemented ea other so well! Amazing vegan / vegetarian fare, in a comfortable and old feel setting. Staff is so helpful and friendly

Google
Delicious vegetarian and gluten free food. Always a challenge to find somewhere that offers both vegetarian and gluten free and Green Elephant delivers. I had the summer rolls, super fresh and light. Then the Thai green curry. Tasted wonderful and also felt healthy. A treat. The chocolate orange mousse cake looked amazing as well. Very nice staff as well. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for a great vegan meal, this is the place!! Loads of options, absolutely delicious from start to finish. Our server Juliet, was fabulous. She knew her menu, had great recommendations and was fast and friendly! I look forward to trying other menu options next time I'm in Portland!!

Google
I had the pleasure of trying this establishment twice during my business trip. The services were excellent both times; the staff was very professional and ensured that your experience was going well. There are several vegan options to choose from, and a select few cusines can be made vegan upon request. The menu is labeled well to assess which cusines fit your dietary needs. The ingredients were very fresh, and each cuisine was well presented. The waiters are very nice, professional, and friendly. I recommend this establishment without hesitation.

Yelp
I came here with four colleagues around noon on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was totally empty, so we had no trouble finding seating. Our waiter was lovely, warm, and checked on us often. The restaurant itself was cozy and casual. Everything on the menu looked delicious and is vegan or vegetarian, which makes this place a haven for plant-based folks, especially since plant-based options can be quite limited at several restaurants in town. I ordered one of the specials, a goji berry noodle soup, which sounded great for a cold day. I was a bit worried that the goji berries would make the dish too sweet or tart, but it was absolutely delicious. There were some berries in the broth, but the broth itself was perfectly seasoned, savory, and flavorful. The noodles are really thin rice noodles, so they broke quite easily, but the dish was otherwise chock full of meatless "spare ribs" and veggies. I asked for three stars out of four on the spiciness scale, which was perfect for me. My only gripe is that the prices are a bit steep for lunch (I only ordered the one dish and it came out to $21 after tax and tip), but I think that's true of several lunch spots in the area, unfortunately. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Prolog: For all our years living in Maine, we just simply never make it down to Portland (a close to 2 1/2 hour drive) -- we'd driven through (or more like "around") Portland on a number of summer trips from Florida (before we permanently retired here), and only once did we actually park and walk around (for perhaps an hour) before we had to get to the Jetport to catch our flight. Review: A waitperson at a popular brewery in Brewer we frequent their brewskies and bravura fried Heiwa tofu, and who is also plant-based like us, said her favorite vegan restaurant in Portland was The Green Elephant. (This was well-over a year ago.) Recently, due to an unforeseen rental car cancelation, we found ourselves in Portland (early) to pickup family arriving at the Jetport, so we decided this was our (rare) opportunity to check The Green Elephant out! The Green Elephant is located in what appears to be a prime downtown location (mere steps from the Portland Modern Museum of Art; across from the State Theater); an area showcasing many of the, ahem, "characters" associated with city living (speaking from experience). ;) But I digress.... The restaurant is a narrow rectangle of a place, judiciously laid-out with a couple of booths on one side, 2-seaters on the opposite, and 4-seaters center and at the windows. We were there at opening (11:30 am), and (after the long drive) were famished!! Inside, the place is modern, clean and light. The host was prompt and inviting; we picked out a table at the window. Our waitperson, Kayla, arrived lickety-split thereafter, and was rarin' to get us goin' since we were time-limited and feeling light-headed from not having our mid-morning meals! ;) Famished and parched, a Singha is a no-brainer starter pour moi! (I was surprised to see it arrive in a can -- in all my years, I've only ever had it in a bottle. Lol!) We started with a shared order of the vegan King Oyster Mushroom Tempura (served with a soy dipping sauce). As an introduction to this restaurant's menu: OMG, this sets the bar and expectation level at a dizzying height! (I'm getting ahead of myself, but we came here with our visiting family several days later and ordered it again: O-M-G STILL amazing! Next time around, I'm ordering this one just for me: No sharing!) ;) For meals: I had the Local Mushroom Rice Bowl (which was very delish and used locally produced Tootie's Tempeh for a protein). My better-half had the Siamese Dream Curry Noodles, which he said was excellent. As stated, we loved it so much we brought our visiting family there before they needed to catch their flight back to ATL. This time around, on top of the tempura trumpet mushrooms appetizer, we ordered the Thai Ginger Noodles and Veggie Citrus Spare Ribs. Both were excellent, with special kudos to the "spare ribs" soy meat! Even the carnivore in our party said he was truly satisfied with the meal he chose and would order it again.... :) In wrap-up, I cannot give enough laudatory remarks about The Green Elephant! Without doubt, it is the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant we've eaten at here in Maine, and we can't wait to make the jaunt back very soon...! :D

Yelp
Vegetarians galore! I am impressed with The Green Elephant. They do a great job making your favorite dishes vegan/vegetarian. The food is creative, fresh and healthy. I am a satisfied customer. Good job Green Elephant.

Yelp
The Green Elephant was great to finally find and all vegetarian restaurant in Portland. We visit on a Saturday Oct evening and reserved a table for 2. It was a bit busy but happy we were seated in twenty minutes. While waiting we took a walk down the street and back. Once seated we enjoyed the nice services and chill atmosphere and pleasant staff. We ordered some starters. Edamame, Summer Roles, and nuggets. They were very good and especially enjoyed the nuggets. I ordered the ginger noodles with a medium spice. I really enjoyed them. The were a bit spicier but very good. I really enjoyed be way the tofu was prepared.Excellent dish. I would recommend The green elephant. It was excellent.

Yelp
There aren't many all vegetarian/vegan spots in Portland, so we had to check out the Green Elephant. We appreciated the interesting seasonal specials and ordered the Chinese five spice goji berry soup which was comforting and flavorful and legitimately spicy. What an unusual, creative, wholesome dish. Other than this, we honestly struggled to find items that were both healthy and interesting. The summer rolls (one of the specials) and the steamed tofu and vegetables were both enjoyable but unmemorable. We also ordered the roti appetizer and the side of tempeh drizzled with sweet chili sauce. I'm glad this place exists and hope they will inch past early 2000s era vegan restaurant quality and add some fun, healthy, innovative items to keep us coming back.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at The Green Elephant. It's hard to find vegetarian only restaurants and this was a great find. The curry puffs were crunchy, buttery, and delicious. The green curry tasted very fresh and the tofu in the ginger noodles was unique and had a sweetness to it. The staff were exceptionally kind, brought our food quickly, and packed our leftovers for us. I'd certainly be back next time I'm in Portland:)

Yelp
Our reddit research never disappoints! This place was unanimously recommended and like always we went with high expectations. They don't take reservations, it's quite busy so there might be some waiting time if you come at the peak timings. It's a small cozy place with friendly servers. We started with coconut soup, there was a distict zing to it, maybe lemon ? I don't know but it was very different than what we expected. Definitely a must have on a chilly night. Husband had the green curry which was loaded with vegetables and tofu. My ginger noodles were also loaded with tofu, snap peas and eggs. The spice level was on point and we were very happy with the entire meal. Would have tried the fried banana with coconut ice cream if I wasn't watching my sweet intake. Overall a good meal after a long drive from Acadia.

Yelp
This place deserves 5 stars for food, service, and ambience. First of all, they got my attention as the whole menu is vegetarian so plenty of options to choose from. We got vegetable dumplings (which came with 6 pieces). For the main course, we got basil fried rice, Thai ginger noodles and green curry with tofu. Thai ginger noodles were not spicy at all but had a very good ginger taste. Green Curry had a lot of vegetables like celery, basil, broccoli, zucchini. Rice had a soya based protein bot tofu, that was the only part I didn't like. Quantity was also decent and we were able to share 3 items among 4 people. Mango sticky rice wasn't available.

Yelp
Still love the Green Elephant. Every time I come to Maine, I have to have lunch or dinner here. I always order the same thing. Pad Thai, dumplings and sticky rice with mango. Got there just before 5pm, and already a line of people waiting to get in. Food is just so fresh and light and vegetarian or vegan. I love the heat on the pad Thai. You can get 1,2,3,4 for heat. I like the 4 level of heat. Portion is pretty big, I took a lot home for a late snack. The mango rice is rich, and creamy and sweet, just a nice ending to a beautiful meal.

Yelp
For me, as of right now, The Green Elephant is my favorite takeaway in Portland. + It's always hot. + It's always exactly the right order. + It never feels like "takeout" portions. + It's always ready on time. + I never have to worry about it accidentally not being vegan. + Online ordering is SUPER easy (*PRO TIP: make your order early in the day and schedule your pick-up time in advance to give them plenty of heads-up). The only (real) drawback?: - The horrible parking, but that's Portland for you. I think my current perfect takeout order is: 1) drink: Thai Iced Tea (with soy cream) 2) app #1: Deep Fried Vegetarian Spring Rolls (crispy! comes with a tamarind sauce, but if you have a spicy English mustard at home you should use that) 3) app #2: Hot & Spicy Soy Sticks (soy "chicken" on bamboo skewers with garlic-chili-cilantro sauce... that sauce is EVERYTHING, it's just all the best flavors. Get it on the side!) 4) entree: Chinese Broccoli and Crispy Breaded Soy Filet (broccoli, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and Thai bird chili stir-fried in brown sauce and served with jasmine brown rice and a fried soy "chicken" filet - it's a satisfying amount of food and textures; like it spicy? definitely go for a 3 or 4 star!!) 5) dessert: Chocolate Orange Mousse (it's probably my favorite dessert at any restaurant in the city; it's so creamy, so rich, so decadent! ALSO: they sell whole ones at the holidays!) Personally, I'd skip: the edamame (it's just pricey for how much you get), the fried mushrooms and veggie dumplings (both are so underwhelming and bland compared to GE's other dishes), and the soy nuggets (*only* because the Hot & Spicy Soy Sticks are just waaaaaaay better). I'll say it again and again (and again when I get takeout in a couple weeks): there's a reason you're still going strong and that's because people love you, Green Elephant!

Yelp
Awesome vegetarian food in Portland. We had the Siamese dream curry noodles, brussel sprouts and the king oyster appetizer. All were amazing and the server was very nice and helpful. Will be returning

Yelp
After hearing about The Green Elephant from so many friends, we finally found ourselves in Portland at lunch time and only had this restaurant on our target list. From being greeted by the host and seated promptly in the well light dining area, Green Elephant was starting out to be a good experience. It has a subdued classy vibe. Nothing pretentious. It didn't take long for the restaurant to fill up (always a good sign). I started with the Green Elephant Tea and the King Oyster Mushroom Tempura. Our waitress was very helpful in describing the specials and the menu items. There was so many tempting items for my vegan preferences that it was hard to choose just one item for my main. After a few quick questions about the menu, I ended up ordering the Siamese Dream Curry Noodles. When the King Oyster Mushroom Tempura arrived, the first thought was that's a lot of food. Just on it's own, the mushrooms would make a lunch time meal. But that first bite blew me away. They are amazing!! Then the Siamese Dream Curry Noodles arrived. WOW! It is what food dreams are made of. From the deep, rich flavor of the curry and the crispy crunch of the noodles on top, this will be one of my favorites for a long time in the future. As chance would have it, I was back in Portland the following week and made a beeline to The green Elephant again. This time round, King Oyster Mushroom Tempura, because YES, they are that good, and the special: Citrus Spare RIbs. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. Can't wait for the next trip to Portland.

Yelp
A few vegan friends of mine popped into town, and the Green Elephant was the first place I thought to take them. Their menu is the only all vegetarian menu in Portland, with a healthy amount of accommodations for vegan diners. I have yet to try anything on their menu that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed--in particular, their veggie dumplings, soy nuggets, and Thai Basil Fried Rice have been standouts. Although their interior could stand to have improved lighting and updated decor, it does add to a generally intimate setting and dining experience. Frankly, the food is so good that one doesn't even notice!

Yelp
I am always a sucker for a vegetarian restaurant. We were craving a green curry and this was right around the corner from our hotel. We picked up the green curry with tofu and it was a bit thinner than we expected. The flavor was still pretty good, but if you are expecting a super authentic curry this wouldn't be in my top 5. I would still go back and try some other things on the menu and the host that got us our order was incredibly friendly!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Food is ok. Problem is if you eat with your friends, the waiter will take you order ask you for the spice levels, then after 30 mins when all the food arrives, there's one person that is missing their entree. The waiter just says sorry I forgot to input that entree. So the rest of the table either waits or may as well skip dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
I went back for the second time for dinner pretty busy. They had special chef's choice menu but opt to order on their regular side menu. The ginger Thai noodle and soy nuggets were simply delicious. I wish they open one in Las Vegas. LOL Thanks for awesome lunch and dinner during my visit in Maine.

Yelp
Excellent well prepared appetizers. Penang curry was delicious and amazing . Service was excellent and the recommendation of the staff was really helpful especially I don't enjoy vegan dessert. The chocolate mudpie was very tasty and did not feel like vegan dessert. The ambience was very warm and inviting.

Yelp
Delicious food and my fiancé who is not vegetarian or vegan loved his food. He thought he was eating meat until the waiter confirmed he wasn't. We would come again, we were both happy.

Yelp
Outstanding. Great menu of vegetarian options which was perfect. I had Panang curry, spouse had ginger vegetables. I had an IPA, she had Thai iced tea. Thai sticky rice for dessert. Food was super tasty and healthy. Great service, good location, fine atmosphere. Highly re.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I'm not vegan / vegetarian - but if I were eating food as good as this every day I could be! Great atmosphere and attentive staff - I've never had to ask for a drink refill here - staff really pay attention to your experience and I think that's incredibly noteworthy. Top dishes I'd recommend would be the coconut soup, the Thai ginger noodles (absolute perfection), the hot and sour soup, the tofu tikka masala, and the Siamese dream curry noodles. All are so, so good. Also don't forget dessert - don't miss the chocolate orange mousse pie. Never a bad meal here - how many places can you honestly say that about?

Yelp
Yummy! AND Healthy! Curry puffs were perfection. Everything was delicious, staff was accommodating and thoughtful as well as super positive and encouraging. Loved it!

Yelp
Delicious food, lovely service. Stopped here on the way through town with three vegetarian/vegans and two omnivores. Everyone was impressed with their lunches. Our only regret was not having time to try more dishes.

Yelp
Words cannot express how grateful my wife and I are for finding this wonderful place! I'm gluten-free and vegetarian, and my wife is vegan so dining out can be next to impossible. I actually research this place just before we arrived in Portland Maine, and it seemed safe enough. I'm really glad we took a chance on it! Several times, now on our honeymoon, we have visited green elephant, each time I've gotten the tofu, tikka masala, and my wife has gotten the asparagus, tempura salad. I've also really enjoyed the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce. The place is absolutely delicious, with options for everybody, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or just anyone who wants a more natural plate of food For a late lunch early dinner. The staff is extremely knowledgeable of our diet types and very professional. We've enjoyed getting to chat with them. It seems like everybody here is taking very good care of because everyone is always happy and smiling. On our first night here, the place filled up fast. Less than an hour after they opened and all tables filled up so business must be very good. We've enjoyed this place a lot and cannot wait to return.

Yelp
AMAZING!! So hard to find good veggie/vegan food. The food was unbelievable! Gourmet! The service was awesome and the environment was cozy and friendly. We highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
Great find in Portland. Plenty of great options on the menu. You can eat healthy by avoiding deep getting but the mushrooms were so good. I really enjoyed my entree. The place is nice and clean. Even though the server was new, she did a great job with suggestions and timely service. Look forward to going back when I visit the East Coast again.

Amy ..

Yelp
Delicious! Mostly vegan, some vegetarian items(contain egg). Menu states that removing egg would make the dish vegan. The food was great and the servers were friendly. We got the fresh summer rolls and king oyster mushroom appetizers which were both great. Then for enteees we got the dream curry and ginger noodles- both were excellent and had generous portions. Next time we are here, we will be back!

Yelp
I can't get enough of this place. The food is amazing, the drinks are well crafted. The restaurant is always super clean. Must try!

Yelp
As a carnivore married to a vegan, I wanted to treat her to something we couldn't get near we live. So after searching I found this place for her and some trepidation the 5 of us went for lunch. First off, the restaurant is immaculate, simply decorated and friendly attentive waitresses. The food was OUTSTANDING!! None of us missed meat. Between us we ordered spring rolls, vegetable with peanut sauce (delicious ) stir fry vegetables, green curry, steamed dumplings and pad Thai. Along with peach iced tea and some hot teas. All 5 of us can't wait to go back when we are near Portland. Great restaurant!

Yelp
The atmosphere was amazing the food was spectacular and just how amazing the staff are and the service was great and the Thai ice tea is to die for

Yelp
This place is great. Highly recommend the coconut soup, it was delicious. Love the crunchy vibe in here, calming as well, a nice oasis from the cold air. The salad I got was huge and we loved all the appetizers! I want to come back and try a curry soon.

Yelp
we had a fantastic dinner experience here during our weekend in portland. i'm vegan and my mom is vegetarian so this was perfect for us. we put our name down and waited about 30 min, not too bad! the restaurant is smaller than average and only 2 waiters and a host. the staff are beyond friendly and attentive! we truly had the best service! we split 3 apps, 1 entree and a dessert between the two of us and it was the perfect amount of food: the brussels sprouts, special menu puff pastry with veggies, the coconut soup with tofu & mushrooms, the stir-fry veggies with tofu, and chocolate orange mouse pie. everything was amazing! stand out for me was the brussels sprouts and orange chocolate pie. the pad thai looked amazing and it's top of my list to try next time.

Kristina B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Portland. The food is always delicious. Every time I visit I always get the hot and sweet soy sticks. They are served on a bamboo stick to have the feel of a "wing" and the sauce they are in is very good. Like a sweet chili sauce. This time I also tried the Tom kha soup, very delicious and flavorful. I got the pineapple fried rice and while I thought it might be odd with the sunflower seeds in it I did not even notice. The pineapple added a nice juiciness to the overall dish. You can choose your spice level up to to 5 as well. I always get the chocolate orange mousse. It's vegan and really so very good. I also tried the green elephant hot tea which is a blend they create and was very refreshing with ginger in there. The staff and service is always very friendly and relatively quick. As it's located in downtown Portland parking can be annoying.

Yelp
Great This vegetarian restaurant is how I remembered it. Not been in town here for a long time. Greeted heartedly and the last available table was for us. It's pleasant here because the staff make it so, make the effort. It is clean looking and simply decorated. I noticed many calls for takeout and pickups at the desk. The service is attentive and when not serving or running are keeping things clean. Wow. We ordered flaky pastry puffs on the special menu stuffed w a medium curry flavor w assorted veggies and dipping sauce. Potato, carrot broccoli, other veggies. King mushroom tempura: crowns and delicious, stem pieces a little bit chewy and "Rib" seitan ? Not sure but delicious "meat" In a citrus base brown sauce stir fry of veggies. Prices are true$$, good value for quality of food, tasty joyful delicious. Nice folks working here. Beer, wine and drinks served. Homemade lemonade delicious. Friends and families eating here this visit. A more quiet atmosphere.

Yelp
I have been a fan of the Green Elephant for years; as a vegan, challenged with restaurant options out there, Green Elephant is my "go-to" restaurant. My current rating is both based on a long-standing resentment (see below; I would probably give five stars if it weren't for that particular issue and the recent dining out experience) and I would probably rate it lower given the recent experience -- but that would not reflect my longer-term satisfaction. First the resentment: why would a restaurant that caters to the vegan crowd identify any ingredient as "spare ribs"?!? It's just dumb! In actuality, I did not become a vegetarian or a vegan via animal rights considerations; it was initially, primarily, an issue of healthy food choices. However, at this point, if I was stranded on a deserted island, and all I could eat was animal products, I would perish: I have absolutely no interest in eating animals, and I also certainly don't want to be reminded of body parts (especially, "ribs"!!) when I'm eating at a vegan restaurant. Regarding the recent dining out experience: atypically, the food was strikingly dull. This was particularly true of the King Oyster Mushroom Tempura appetizer: it was literally tasteless. Some of the overcooked tempura debris had some taste but, even with the dipping sauce (also without flavor), eating the appetizer was pointless. Even the long-standing pleasure in the Brussel Sprouts appetizer was negated: though there was some flavor, eating the hard-to-chew sprouts (which weren't as tasty as prior -- and quite salty) was disappointing. The Goji Berry soup was -- wonderful! Intentionally steering away from my usual fare, I was quite pleased: FULL of flavors. Quite a unique dish -- causing the appetizer disappointment to fade a bit. The Tikka Masala dish was...serviceable: again, "subdued" flavors were noted (and not looking for a spicy dish in this case) but I was not inspired to order it again. As always, the place was packed, the service was good and the treats at the end were quite satisfying. Ultimately: get rid of the "spare ribs" (or any animal parts reference) and return to some of the historical culinary skill that seems to have diminished over time...and Green Elephant will continue to be my go-to restaurant!

Yelp
Great waitstaff! Fabulous food. Seriously, this place is a hidden gem. We lucked out and got a table with no problem on a Tuesday evening, but it did fill up fast after we got there. The staff was nice and service-orientated striving for us to have a pleasant experience. Everything seemed clean and well-managed. Staff helped each other out. I got the deep-fried vegetarian spring rolls and they did not disappoint. They were served piping hot fresh out of the frier and soaking with oil. I realize that may not sound great, but they sure did taste great. For my entree, I had Chinese broccoli with crispy breaded soy filet. I think the name of the dish could use some work, but the taste was incredible. Very fresh, well seasoned and I would order it again. This was my first visit to Portland, and next time I would definitely come back.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of visiting The Green Elephant for dinner during our trip to Portland. You'd be surprised at how few places are available to START eating at 8pm during the week and it just so happens that I am vegetarian so I was pleasantly surprised that this was an option at that time! we were able to snag a rez via Resy earlier in the day for 8pm. This place is situated perfectly amongst many other establishments in the area. You can tell they take their covid shit seriously, they only allow about two or three tables at a time and they are spaced very far apart. The pick up orders are picked up outside on a table and the door is actually locked from the outside unless you have a reservation so I felt very safe and comfortable dining here. The staff was very kind and friendly which was a nice plus. They have all of the critical Thai shit you would expect, in vegan and vegetarian form. I was thrilled to see that they have not only vegetable dumplings but ALSO veggie spring rolls, in addition to many other appealing appetizers I was eyeing. We placed an order for both and an order of their brussels sprouts on the way out for later ;). Regarding our entrees, I do struggle to choose between curry, fried rice, noodle dishes, and stir fries, because I want to eat EVERYTHING. This meal was actually on my birthday so I was given full license to decide on categories and we all know at the end of the day, you have to go with curry and some NOODS. We ordered my go-to: penang curry and an order of their Thai Ginger Noodles. First and foremost, the deep fried spring rolls were INCREDIBLE. This might be because I have not been physically present in a restaurant since March 2020 and usually order in, but I do not know if I have ever in my life had the pleasure of breaking into such a crispy spring roll. You could hear the crunch from down the road probably. They were STUFFED with veggies and mushrooms and accompanied by a delicious sauce that is not your usual dipping sauce but something original and flavorful. The vegetable dumplings were also delicious. They were a TOUCH soggy but I dgaf because the filling was very tasty. Again, sauce provided was different than a usual dipping sauce but so very good. They also included a spicy sauce that blew my mouth off. The penang curry was delectable as this curry usually is. I loved the addition of TEMPEH instead of the standard tofu. The veggies: broccoli, peppers, zucchini, carrots, squash, were PLENTIFUL. Excellent dish. The thai ginger noodles contain wide rice noodles, which is not my preference. There was a slightly spicy but delightful flavor and again, veggies were very well represented. This was very enjoyable and highly recommended. The brussels sprouts were eaten a few days later and even despite that fart-essence odor they give off, were delectable. They weren't overwhelmingly greasy or SALTY, like many other brussels sprouts appetizers, which was very appreciated. Ultimately this place is very special and a must visit for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

After being welcomed by the nicest host, we had the sweetest server who tended to our every need and graciously answered all of our questions about the menu. We got the house made lemonade which was SO yummy! We started with the edamame and steamed dumplings (that were so good we forgot to get pictures before devouring them!), which were yummy and not TERRIBLY fulfilling, so I was able to still enjoy my entree completely! The peanut sauce over the steamed veggies was so rich and delicious! As someone who doesn't completely LOVE tofu, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it! My girl friends got the pineapple fried rice (which I tried and LOVED) and the pad Thai, which they both raved over completely! The service was great, the restaurant itself was clean & comfortable, and we had a great time. It was busy, but at no point did we feel rushed with our meal. Definitely want to go back again!

Yelp
Such a great little spot for lunch! All of our entrees were delicious as well as the refreshing thai iced tea. Would definitely recommend coming here. Honestly would have gone back for another meal if we had more time.

Yelp
This vegan place will not disappoint non-vegans. Their food was so good and loaded with fresh vegetables. Would definitely come back here. The vegan orange chocolate mousse is wonderful.

Yelp
Awesome vegetarian food! Fully vegetarian Thai food is unheard of! The waiter was so friendly and helpful and the food had good flavor. The panko crusted tofu was extremely crispy but didn't have a ton of flavor- but the veggies had a good sweet and sour suave. I stopped by the area on my way out and it was the perfect homey meal that I was craving.

Yelp
Great food. Love all the variations to ensure that the dishes are vegan. Wish more Thai restaurants offered vegan options

Yelp
After a week in Maine indulging in buttery seafood, dessert at most meals, and more adult beverages than usual, BF and I were ready for a healthier meal option, and The Green Elephant fit the bill perfectly! The Green Elephant is open for takeout and limited dine-in by reservation only. I tried to make a reservation a few days in advance and none were available, but luckily I signed up to be notified if any opened. Around 12 PM the day of our dinner, I received an email notification from Resy that tables were available. I logged in to find they had about 6 time options that all disappeared quickly. I mention this mostly because there's about 6 tables in the whole place, which makes me suspect online reservations may only open up on the day of. We were seated immediately on our arrival by friendly staff; two gentleman seemed to be waiting on all of the tables and handling hosting duties, but the meal was appropriately paced and they were quite attentive. The restaurant environment is well-lit, overall casual, and very well-spaced for the COVID-era. The extensive menu is a huge win for vegetarians and vegans alike as there is no meat to be found, and most items made notes of suggested modifications to make a meal vegan or gluten-free if needed. We had a hard time narrowing our order because sadly we had a morning flight and couldn't afford to bring back leftovers! We eventually settled on the vegetable dumplings for our appetizer, which were packed with veggies and soy meat and were good, but I think may have been better with more veggies and less soy meat. For entrees, I ordered the Thai Basil Fried Rice since I love Thai Basil at most Thai restaurants. The portion was HUGE (and I happily dug in before remembering to take a pic #yelpfail) and delicious, packed with veggies, egg, and tons of FLAVOR. BF ordered the Thai Green Curry and was very satisfied with his yummy choice as well. I also appreciated that both items came with brown rice --- love the option to go whole grain when eating out! Loved The Green Elephant and wish I could bring the whole restaurant home with me. The giant portions and layers of flavor make it a must-try for vegetarians and carnivores alike.

Yelp
Used to live in Portland for a decade and got GE allllll the time. But, since leaving the ONLY thing I miss in that town is GE. I often dream about the Spicy Vegetable Medley Stir-fry. I stop here any chance I can. Do yourself a favorrrr

Yelp
Incredible vegan restaurant in Portland that was amazing! The food was incredible and they were completely accommodating to an allergy. The drinks were spectacular and service was great. Would 100 percent come back when I'm through Portland again

Yelp
This is a delicious Asian restaurant in Portland, Maine. Perfect for vegetarians and vegans. We ordered for veggie dumplings, vegan khao soi and vegan chocolate orange mousse pie. for presentation. The service was to the point. Khao soi was so flavourful. Super ! Mousse wasn't very sweet. It could have been better. I guess I was expecting more after having the dumplings and khao soi. Overall a must visit if you go to Portland.

Yelp
Food is delicious and service was excellent. Most things are vegan or can be made vegan by removing eggs. Coconut soup and goji berry soup are excellent

Yelp
I love this restaurant for multiple reasons. First, the food is delicious, and while I was traveling in Portland, I visited Green Elephant twice because I loved their peanut sauce. Secondly, the folks who work there are extremely kind and generous. I lost my wallet the evening before my early morning flight home and left a message asking if by any chance they had found it. They did, and since I had already left Portland, they oh-so-generously offered to mail it to me in NYC. What kindness. I highly recommend this lovely place.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere & vegan options but the special I got wasn't very good. I hope to go back & try more.
