3.5 Stars. We kind of love the Green Room. I'm not sure if it's because of all of the really fun, fond memories we have of this place from when hubs and I just started dating or because it's a no fail, no brainer, easy place to grab a cold one..... Probably both.
Anyone who has lived in Fairmount has come here at some point. It's the no frills neighborhood corner bar everyone loves. It has two pools table, a dart board, an awesome juke box and some fairly simple brews on tap. Nothing too fancy, maybe one or two IPA's. Love the Ithaca Flower Power though! We usually stick with old Philly classics here.
The pool tables used to take quarters only, which the bartender would switch out for you if you have singles. It's now free a couple nights a week, including weekends which is cool! But bring dollar dollar bills if you want to play music!
Unless you're on the Erin Express, no one ever really sets out to spend a night here. It's usually a pre-game or post night out type of place and for that, I think it's really great. A convenient meeting point for a night out elsewhere. Free street parking...if you can find a spot. Most locals just walk here.
We recently stopped here for the first time in YEEEEEEARS on a tour I designed for my husband of our old hangs for a recent date-night. Nothing has changed...and we actually appreciated that. You get the same thing every time. That's not a bad thing at all in this case. Even the door man remains the same, and he's fantastic and uber friendly!
For as many times as we've been here over the years we have actually never tried the food. (Like I said, it's really a place we hit up AFTER a meal elsewhere), but they do offer typical bar fare and wing and pitcher specials during games. I personally wouldn't come here for game watching however, not enough seats. The food does look good though!
We'll be back again for another couple of games of pool, some lagers and good tunes. We actually may try quizzos on Tuesday nights or a round of Bingo on Thursdays when the weather lets up and weekday nights aren't so dark and cold.
Seats outside with maybe some nosh and cold ones for an earlier evening seem like a good idea too.
Good ole Green Room!
