Casual spot for raw & vegan gourmet sandwiches, juices & smoothies in an airy, open space.
"A Third Ward institution since 2012, this sandwich shop and juice bar was among the first vegan shops in the neighborhood. Here, offerings include freshly pressed paninis like the “PB&P” (a sweet combination of caramelized plantains and peanut butter) and raw food fare like its nori rolls filled with almond pate. Meatless takes on popular sandwiches include the Illy Cheesesteak, a French baguette stacked with grilled portabella mushrooms and caramelized red onions with vegan cheese. Order a side of the signature fried cauliflower nuggets with a tangy dipping sauce, and top the experience off with a juice or fruit smoothie." - Brianna Griff, Eater Staff
"Green Seed Vegan, a soy-free vegan restaurant, has been solidly holding down the corner of Almeda and Wheeler for over a decade. The interior is minimal and green and dressed up with bamboo and fake wheatgrass, kind of like an Ikea cafeteria. First, it was a food truck with a legion of loyal fans, but now it’s become somewhat of a Third Ward classic thanks to its fusion of Tex-Mex, Cajun, and American cuisines for a balanced blend of sweet, and tangy flavors. Weekends are busy, but on weekdays you can pop in for a cold-press wheatgrass juice, spicy burgers made with buckwheat quinoa patties and jalapeño, or raw veggie tacos. "Green Seed Vegan, a soy-free vegan restaurant, has been solidly holding down the corner of Almeda and Wheeler for over a decade. The small spot’s menu has mostly raw foods, gluten-free friendly collard green wraps, and delicious, spicy burgers made with buckwheat quinoa and sunflower meal. Whatever vegan alchemy Green Seed performs we appreciate, especially on a day that calls for cold-pressed buckwheat juice. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Green Seed Vegan, a soy-free and mostly raw vegan spot in the Third Ward, serves up a trifecta of third-tier friend energy while remaining delicious. First, Green Seed is a counter service restaurant. Second, even though it’s open for lunch and dinner, Green Seed closes at 8pm, so no late-night hang ups. Third, the spicy-sweet-tang of dishes—like the Big Tosh with maple jerk garbanzo tempeh or the sunflower walnut chorizo Rockin’ Tacos—will keep you talking about the food and not about awkward college memories or that time you both worked at insert-big-box-store-here. " - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"Green Seed Vegan has a hefty menu of vegan dishes, including a section dedicated to raw eats. Go for a fresh pressed panini on flat French bread or go the raw route with something like the “rawrrito” made with seasoned coconut meat and topped with zucchini bacon, arugula, pico, cashew cream, and cilantro limon wrapped in a collard leaf." - Megha McSwain
