San Diego's Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants

"Owners Katrina and Gubi offer a unique take on Indian fusion, working daily in the kitchen to whip up made-from-scratch sauces, samosas, and mains like carrot, cauliflower, and potato ‘meatballs.’ Tacos and naan wraps are served with a choice of protein, such as spiced chickpeas or grilled paneer, all smothered in coconut or signature masala sauce. Standouts include the Treena roll, an Indian-style musubi made with rice, avocado, and ginger garlic tofu." - Kelly Bone

Google
Food was delicious, fresh and cooked to order. We got samosas, Haus veggie pizza, nirvana burger and veggie fried rice. Everything was delicious. We loved the haus season so much that we purchased some to take home and use. I highly recommend this small business if you are in search of vegetarian and vegan lunch and dinner options. Service was excellent and the establishment was clean with great music! Will definitely add this to our staple of Friday night treats.

I’ve been coming to Greenhaus for the chicken lunch bowls for about a month now, and the quality has been consistently great. Fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and solid portions every time. Definitely one of my go-to lunch spots in the area!

Google
Food is excellent, fresh, and healthy. I was blown away at my plate I ordered. Chicken, Marsala, fresh avacodo, tomatos, and the Naan was perfect. I ordered fried cheese as well. It was very large u was able to eat for lunch, dinner, and even some next day. I very much enjoyed and im so happy I discovered.

I came in here on a whim and will be going back on purpose! Saw the sign for a chicken bowl lunch special and figured it couldn't be bad...it was DELICIOUS! The chicken was tender and moist and flavorful, unlike lots of other very dry tandoori that I've had. The rice was also exceptional (literally never thought I'd say that in my life!), it was warm and fluffy and just perfect. The man working there was friendly and polite, and he prepared the food within 5 minutes. I'm looking forward to going back soon!

We ordered one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian naan, but were mistakenly served two non-vegetarian meals. My partner, a lifelong vegetarian, unknowingly ate the non-veg dish, which was extremely upsetting for both of us. When we brought this to the owner's attention, they offered to remake the dish. I had to explain how serious this mistake was, and then the owner acknowledged the error, gave us a refund, and made the correct vegetarian naan. While the food tasted good at the time, both of us ended up with upset stomachs a few hours later (both of us are in and our of bathroom since 9pm and we ate there at 7pm). On top of that, the hygiene of the place was concerning—there were ( piles of moving) boxes scattered around, and the table we were seated at was dirty. This reflects poorly on their kitchen standards as well. Overall, the experience was deeply disappointing. If you care about food safety or have strict dietary restrictions, I strongly recommend avoiding this place.

Google
Small and simple kiosk-operated vegetarian cafe. Just go in and order from a small kiosk. A little challenging from a first-time visitor’s experience. Everything is made fresh to order by one guy in the back. (Not a hit, but because it’s a one man show, there’s no greeting or actual customer service. He just can’t do everything). What he does do is cook really tasty food! We ordered the tacos with meatballs, masala fries, nirvana burger with vegan cheese, and treena roll. The food is made with care and absolutely delicious. The nirvana burger has got to be one of the best veggie burgers I have tasted. Very very good. Highly recommend you try it.

Google
Delicious food! We tried a veggie burger, a wrap, fries, and a treena roll. All were served hot and fresh. The side sauce and ginger drink were great! Parking was easy to find. The outdoor table where we sat had a layer of dirt.

Google
This place was my first stop for lunch upon arriving in the area. The staff was friendly. The service wait time wasn't long. I ordered the naan wrap, and it was huge. My daughter had tacos, and hubby had the veggie burger. All the food we tried was good and fresh. The ginger lemonade was super good. The fries were delicious, and they sold the seasoning so you could take it home and sprinkle on your fries. They have a few parking spots, and there is seating. I will definitely stop by on my next visit.

Yelp
One word...YUM! I ordered the Veggie Pizza with Vegan Mozerella & it was delicious. Perfect thin crust & explosive flavor! Very small store tucked in the back of Morena, but good amount of store-front parking. Quick & friendly service!

Yelp
Avoid this restaurant at all costs! One of the owners, Gubi was extremely rude and discriminated against me. He decided he didn't like me and then after he berated me, he just treated me like I didn't exist. He actually ignored me completely. The other owner, Katrina, did the same thing. At one point they both were laughing at me. I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my life. I videoed the second part of it because I was so astonished by the treatment. When I left, there was a man outside. He told me that the owner Gubi is condescending and has a power and control thing over women. From how I was treated, I believe it. I said it's the new year, we're all humans, let's be kind to one another and Gubi and Katrina laughed at me. In addition to the devastating service and discrimination, Katrina eats while she is cooking to go orders, like throws pieces of food in her mouth from the dish she is cooking for someone to eat. And Gubi itches his face. Seems highly unsanitary and is just disgusting Greenhaus should not be supported.

Yelp
Definitely recommend the seasoned fries with aioli!! Delicious texture and the fries stay crispy. I also got a pizza that I made vegan with no cheese. That was delicious also. The vegan plate is cheeks. I'd skip that. It's sautéed carrots and white rice lol. Vegan Rating: go get seasoned fries and pizza with no cheese.

Yelp
Well done with the food!! There were several items to choose from and a pretty good selection of sauces that came with the snack box, too! Drinks were a little on the sparse side, but not bad. The food came out pretty quickly. The service was just there and seemed like the one guy working was doing it all. We weren't really greeted or anything but it didn't matter to me. After flying all day, was just looking for some good veg food! The ambiance at this place was a bit divey but no problems there! Would return here for the food. Oh, they also do catering!
google avatar

Utsav S.

Yelp
The food can be improved a lot. It was bland and not for Indian taste buds. The tacos and burger were dry and needs more sauce
google avatar

Marisa M.

Yelp
Quick and easy service ordering via iPad. The staff person was not super friendly but did offer me a sample of the tofu when I expressed concern about it being too spicy (it wasn't!) and that was great. Highly recommend the cheese naan it was so yummy. The vibes are very fast casual but fine for a quick bite. Would rather get it to go if I went back again.

Yelp
This was one of the worst place I have ever had 30 dollars for a meal!! Place did not look clean, there was no cashier, and only two workers. The tikka was just like tomato sauce no flavor I would not recommend it ever!! Do not come here the service was way below any reasonable standards!! I would not wish this on my worst enemy!! this place feels so Americanized if you want good food look at some other place!!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
I got the naan wrap with tandoori chicken! The naan itself was good but chicken was dry and wish there were more ingredients in the sandwich. it was different and I liked the flare of Mediterranean/Indian fusion.

Noelle D.

Yelp
Always appreciating vegan restaurants in the area. Had a naan -wrap with spicy chickpeas and the red coconut sauce. The chickpeas were very tasty. The sauce was delicious. The service was prompt and friendly.

T K.

Yelp
Rude, Bad, and unclean. I would not recommend eating at this place. There are so many places to eat at, so just choose a different one. Sorry
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! I got the Nirvana Burger and it was amazing, plus the seasoning on the seasoned fries is to die for. This isn't a sit down restaurant, it more of quick take away place, so is a little bit tight with minimal indoor/outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Plus, the offer vegan cheese! I will definitely be recommending people to try this place!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is delicious and the vibe is great. This is a hidden San Diego gem you don't want to miss if you're a vegetarian. Check it out! Order at the kiosk and the food is out pretty fast.

Jyothi S.

Yelp
Picked up two nirvana burgers and an order of the tacos with the paneer for protein. We upgraded one of the burgers to masala fries and it was a great decision. They have an easy tablet ordering system with a clear menu which makes the process very easy. The place is very casual, with a few tables inside. The food was delicious; the paneer tacos were flavorful and soft, while the chickpea burger base had a great crunch. Tip: recommend skipping the spicy sauce as a dipping sauce bc it's not needed and doesnt really add to the meal.

Lindsey W.

Yelp
I've been going here for about seven months. Best Vegan in San Diego! It's fast and yummy. I'm not even vegan but this is my first choice for lunch. Service is quick and the staff are accommodating. They play nice music and it's chill enough that I like to bring friends here. I LOVE the marinated tofu.

Michelle W.

Yelp
I love the food but the times are so inconsistent. On google it says 10:30 am. So we get there at 10:57 and there was no one there and doors locked. So we checked the website and it said 11am. So we wait in the car until 11:10, and still no one comes. However, I then go onto the website and try to order online, and ChowNow, their ordering site, says they don't accept orders till 11:45. So which is it??? Super inconsistent, and we've been waiting here for half an hour now.

Yelp
Phenomenal! What a fantastic vegetarian and vegan menu. The food tastes as good as it looks. The tacos are delicious and the fries with added avocado and masala sauce are bomb. I ordered to go from my phone. It was ready in 15 minutes for pickup. The owner was very kind. The restaurant looked very clean. Loved every bite. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Omg so tasty for vegan. Love the wrap, nirvana sauce, avocado salad, treena roll, samosa, vegballs. Can't wait to try pizza

Yelp
This place has a very Unique way of making Indian food. It's different from others. If you want something new. Explore this place!

Marisela B.

Yelp
Great vegan place with delicious wraps and burgers. It's small place with BIG flavors!

Nicole L.

Yelp
This place is wonderful! They have lots of delicious and healthy vegan options. They catered a baby shower we were hosting and the food was a hit! There wasn't one thing people didn't love! Thanks Greenhaus for doing such a great job at our event!

Karthi M.

Yelp
I am sorry to have update my review due to very rude service. My wife went here and they told her you have to stand outside because she was watching them make food. When she asked about any recommendations for vegan desserts she was told we don't know anything. Learn to treat your customers with basic decency and respect. Very poor customer service.
google avatar

Eily I.

Yelp
This place is vegetarian with Indian influences which is very apparent in the flavors and sauces. Everything looked great but I got the chickpea tacos. I'm excited to try other things on the menu. Super easy, healthy and affordable.
google avatar

Renee O.

Yelp
Amazing food and wonderful service. I've eaten there before and more recently we ordered from the catering menu for an event. It was fresh, delicious and punctual. I highly recommend them!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
This place just opened up and they have a great vegetarian selection. Items I've tried: - sushi - nirvana burger - paneer pita wrap - margherita pizza Love the sauces the coco nirvana is amazing, my favorite vegetarian restaurant and love the crave box, the fries are amazing!
google avatar

Yesenia N.

Yelp
Great atmosphere super low key and peaceful. The environment set up is so easy all you do is go to kiosk order the food and pay with card or cash at the register. This location is more ideal for takeout but they got seating available if you desire to dine in. It's my first time ever at this vegan establishment and it's super affordable and healthy. The food is so in point and fresh I got to watch the staff prepare it with so much passion. The fries taste amazing they are a must try. Overall positive experience highly recommend a visit.
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
I ordered the Nirvana burger with seasoned fries at their online ordering posts in the eatery. I had takeout. The burger was to spicy, thus 4 star and not 5. The spicy taste overwhelmed tasting anything else, but overall good. Fries were tasty too. Good quick service as all was made fresh as I waited.
google avatar

Jes W.

Yelp
Greenhaus definitely gives off big hole in wall vibes -- but they are definitely worth coming in for! You can order inside or online. If you like them on Instagram they'll give you a free samosa (they are legitimately so good.) Anyway, the veggie burger is so good, I highly recommend adding the vegan mozzarella! The wrap was good but the chickpeas didn't seem cooked all the way through. If I were to return I don't think I'd chance it again. The parking lot is shared with a few other locations and there is very little room in the store itself -- there are a few tables outside to eat as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Um, wow. So so delicious and unlike anything I've ever eaten. And I eat out a lot. An Indian - American mash up of classics like burgers and fries with a distinctive eastern flavor. I had a Nirvana Burger, seasoned fries and sparkling ginger lemonade. An explosion of savory, spicy and even a touch of sweet (I had mango sauce on the side for dipping into). Devoured every scrumptious bit. If I lived in San Diego I'd probably eat here once a week. I'm already thinking about tomorrow's dinner order from Greenhaus.

Yelp
Greenhaus replaced a Chinese food take-out spot in this small plaza where JV's Mexican Food is located off Morena Blvd in Linda Vista. I used to drive by this area more frequently when the gyms were fully open before the pandemic. The transition to Greenhaus occurred nearly six months prior, but I didn't notice the change until a few weeks ago. The menu is now vegetarian-based Indian cuisine. You pick a style first... wrap, salad, burger, taco, or plate. Next, you choose a protein, sauce, and side to finish the order. Snacks and drinks were also available as a la carte choices. My selection was a Happy Belly Plate which was one protein (six veggie meatballs), one sauce (simmered saag), and two sides (basmati rice, classic naan). For $12, the amount of food was very good. My primary issue was the ratio of carbs to sauce. A small cup of saag was provided which was not nearly enough to match up with the amount of rice and naan provided. The plate ended up being dry because the sauce was quickly used up. An adjustment to the spiciness level should have also been offered as it was difficult to know what kind of heat to expect. Overall, I gave my Greenhaus experience a 3.5 star rating.

Ruhi S.

Yelp
Unassuming spot for some Indian food with an innovative concept. Overall filling, healthy, and at a good price - I'd recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a quick lunch.

Nona Y.

Yelp
the food is fresh and bursting with flavor and you get a fair amount for the price. They have a blend of sopices they put on the fries, but I would prefer they didn't use it as it was a bit too salty for my liking. it overpowered the rest of the flavors. The sauce that came with my tacos was delicious but I'd suggest they give smaller portions because I soaked mine and still had a boatload of it left over. Seemed wasteful. The veggie burger was quite yummy (that's a second hand opinion - my husband had that - I did not) and he was sated. he normally goes to in n out so it's always a happy day when he eats -and enjoys- a vegetarian version. overall, good place for a quick lunch.

Declan S.

Yelp
I still enjoy the food here a lot, and like how they have expanded their menu. I go much less often than in 2020 because their prices have gone up even more than the competition, and take-out orders are increasingly slow. It is still a great place you should try! Especially if you want something vegetarian, creative, and kinda-India. But the days when their very low prices and quick service made it great for getting take-out for 5-10 people seem to be over.

Yelp
Greenhaus, a veggie forward (maybe vegetarian) Indianrestaurant recently opened near one of my offices, so I thought it sounded like a great opportunity to get something different for lunch one day. It is in a congested parking lot, so I'm very glad I had the opportunity to walk there. The menu is interesting, as you can choose a wrap made with naan bread, a protein, and a sauce. I really love Indian food so I was quite happy to see that. I chose a naan wrap with paneer and a spicy coconut sauce. I also ordered a spiced iced tea. When I arrived, the place was small, and a bit dark. It is more of a place for lunch takeout rather than to dine there. I paid for my order and started to leave, but realized they had forgotten the tea that I had paid for. No prob... I walked back in and got it. What I didn't like is that when I asked for a straw, the guy working there handed me an unwrapped straw with the same unwashed hands he used for taking my cash. As far as my order, the iced tea was delicious. I would definitely like to have that again. My food was tasty as well. I loved the flaky texture of the naan bread, but that flaky texture was not very good for a wrap, as it completely fell apart and I had to eat it with a fork. I also wished that the paneer had more of the sauce on it, instead I had a plastic container of the sauce to dip it in. I think more could have been done to allow the flavor of the sauce to mix with my food. I didn't have a great experience, but as it is close to work, I may give it another try and order something that is now a wrap.
google avatar

Maxim O.

Yelp
I've tried this place a few times now and im obsessed with their Naan wrap w/vegan meatballs. This time I ordered some extra sauces: Tropical Mango (tangy and sweet) Spicy Dip (robust tomato with a great spice level) and the Coco Nirvana (almost like a red curry) and all three were amazing. Side items worth trying are their samosas and loaded fries definitely recommend!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
First time eating here... got the nirvana burger & seasoned Fries, WOW! Delicious I'll be back for sure I just asked for it without the dairy cheese to make it vegan. They have daiya but it's not my fav. Perhaps they can switch to violife or goodplanet vegan cheese?!

Nancie L.

Yelp
Tiny shop with delicious food freshly prepared. Friendly staff. Vegetarian and gluten-free options.
google avatar

Abigail R.

Yelp
what a lovely lunch! good deal and good vegan foods! the samosa could have been a little more flavorful but I did have the extra masala dip from the naan! the wrap was great, go for whatever feels best for you and always do a side samosa!
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
You don't have to be vegan to love this place. What a wonderful difference. Great quality and flavors. I'll be coming back here MUCH more!!

Nasia K.

Yelp
Great food and service. Samosas and Haus Plate veggie meatballs with Coco Masala sauce are take-out favorites. Catering option is also great, especially for large gatherings.

Yelp
I am NOT a vegan eater. My wife is vegetarian but also not necessarily a vegan eater. We have ordered a few time from this small "hole in the wall" eatery in Bay Park. So let's talk about their food! Which is great by the way! I like a variety of foods from around the world. Indian food is part of what I like. The food here is very strongly associated with Indian spices and flavors. That being said, (one of the 10 phrases I'm told not to say anymore) the Samosas here are great! I am a potato fan and the potato samosas are delicious! Nice outsides with great potato and spices insides. For those who want CLOSE to "regular" food the Chickpeas and Lentils are both Vegan entrees that give the substance and flavor for us carnivores! I give this place 5 stars because there are no other vegan places I would rate like this!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I love this place for an Indian fusion! Definitely recommend! The food is good and it's priced very well. I am not vegetarian but I love getting their food. They are also very thoughtful with to go orders. We have ordered for two events now and they ensure you have plates, napkins and utensils to eat and serve with. The owners are the ones running the restaurant and they are so kind and you can tell they put lots of love and dedication into this place. They also were very accommodating when my husband wanted them to cater for my proposal but wanted to make it COVID friendly, they made sure to pack cute individual boxes for meals.
google avatar

Toby S.

Yelp
I just had this place for the first time. EVERYTHING was amazing. Salad was fresh. Paneer was perfect texture. Chickpeas were fantastic. The masala was manna from heaven. This is NOT bland food. You need to try it. Photos dont do it justice. PS Ginger lemonade was

Yelp
Small place in a small strip mall, but the food was fantastic! Many items are offered as vegan or vegetarian options. Everything is freshly made to order, but mine didn't even take 10 min from ordering to picking up at the window. Everything is clean and so nice! There is seating out front, tables were clean. I opted for a "snack," as I didn't want a big meal. There was too much for me to finish anyway! Oh, another comment: lots of the items are either gluten-free, or can be made gluten-fee (that last is important to me) I'd highly recommend giving this delightful little local place a try! I like to support our small, local businesses!! This is a great one, let's not have them disappear for lack of patronage.
google avatar

Bethy R.

Yelp
Holy cow-/this place is awesome. It's not like your usual Indian food and infuses other styles too. Service was great and portions were worth the price!
google avatar

Kimber L.

Yelp
Very delicious pizza!! The Spicy Wave is my favorite. I had the fries too and the seasoning is so addicting, I wish I had bought a bottle when I was there. Getting it next time for sure!
google avatar

Jo G.

Yelp
Love this place! Nirvana burger is the best. My partner and I have tried almost everything vegan on the menu, it's all amazing. Wish they had a location closer to our house, but it's worth the drive and we try to come once a week.
google avatar

Sage B.

Yelp
If I could think of two words to describe this restaurant it would be "fresh" and "generous." Everything is just insanely fresh - the lettuce is super crispy, the vegetables are colorful, and every protein and sauce tastes homemade. Not only is this place insanely delicious simply because of how fresh it is, but then they go and give you a massive portion along with it - it's just too good to be true. Get the combo plate and thank me later!

Emerald F.

Yelp
Very small place so I figured it was owner operated. Just wanted a vegetarian burger, but was informed I had to order fries or a salad with it as I guess there was just no room for improvisation. I just left cause I only wanted a vegetarian burger.
