Best Haitian Restaurants Around Boston | Eater Boston

"For over 25 years, Grêp Kafé has been the spot to supply parties, weddings, and communions with Haitian confections like elegant cakes and delicious cashew and coconut tablet. When you visit, order a langue de boeuf, which is a laminated pastry filled with layers of sugar and honey. Get a bottle of homemade kremas — a Haitian creamy spirit infused with spices — for your bar at home. Plus, there is an abundance of freshly baked pates filled with flaky cod fish, beef, and chicken if you prefer savory treats. On those cold winter days, get their joumou, the country’s Independence Day soup, which would be sacrilegious not to dip their homemade Haitian bread into." - Ashia Aubourg

Spring 2022 Guide to Greater Boston Restaurant Openings | Eater Boston

"A petite Haitian American bakery and takeout counter offering handheld savory options like beef-stuffed patties, tropical beverages such as passion fruit juice, and jars of pikliz; the bright, compact space has no seating, so orders are geared toward takeout or picnics." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

This coffee shop is truly a hidden gem and easily one of the best spots around. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff who clearly care about the customer experience. The coffee is excellent—fresh, smooth, and perfectly made every time. What really stands out is their amazing selection of sweets. There is a wide variety, all beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. Everything tastes fresh and high quality, making it hard to choose just one treat. Another highlight is the menu featuring Haitian-inspired items. It’s refreshing to see authentic Haitian flavors represented so well. The dishes are flavorful, comforting, and thoughtfully prepared, adding a unique cultural touch that you don’t often find in a coffee shop. Overall, this place delivers on every level: great coffee, delicious desserts, cultural authenticity, and a welcoming vibe. I will definitely be coming back again and again, and I highly recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for a quality café with outstanding sweets and a unique Haitian influence.

Google
Grep Kafe provided us patties for appetizers and a variety of desserts for our wedding. They were very easy to communicate with. We ordered beef and codfish patties for part of our apps, both of which everyone loved. For dessert, they helped us arrange a tasting table-- the dous makos and mini rum cakes went so fast we didn't even get to try some! Our guests loved everything. They also made a gorgeous cutting cake for us which was above and beyond what we were expecting! We highly recommend them and everything was very affordable for a catering order.

Very disappointed in quality. I got food poisoning and never received a refund for my pre ordered soup Joumou. Walking in the ambiance is nice, the uncovered food should have been an indication to me to leave but as a true supporter of Haitian culture I looked past that, that was my biggest mistake. I spent the whole new years in between bed and restroom. I ordered a Lalo and fresh meat was added to old cooked meat and mixed to serve. The sos pwa was not strained properly was very grainy. I also ordered side of Mac and cheese and regret setting in after the first bite, the cheese had curdled and there was a lack of flavor throughout, this all seemed like a rushed attempt at serving semi authentic Haitian food. The desserts were overly sweet or tasted like paste. I ordered the banana pudding and there was no pudding it was just cookies and frosting with chopped bananas. Red velvet brownie had little to no sweetness. The brownie tasted like straight flour and the cream cheese frosting has also grainy and lack luster. The passion fruit juice was the only saving grace and again so sweet I had to water it down myself. I gave it several days to hear back from a manager and lack of communication and my wellbeing was disappointing. I spent almost $100 combined in both the bakery and restaurant and was throughly disappointed with everything. I also purchased the special 2 for 11$ pate kode that was filled with sour cabbage and bones. With such high reviews I expected better. I hope you take this a warning if something doesn’t look right or taste right don’t consume. To be visiting in the area during the holidays and hoping to taste home and this was my experience is so heartbreaking. My only request was a refund for my pre ordered soup joumou and I didn’t even get that. Eat at your own risk.

I visited on Haitian flag day and thank the male cashier for serving me as they were closing. As an out of town guests, giving me the extra minutes to make my purchase as they close was considerate. I ordered beef and chicken patties which were flaky and stuff with flavor as I like it. The banana bread was moist. The chocolate cake was okay. The cashew tablet was good!

Google
I catered patties from Grep Kafe for an event. The delivery was prompt, and Jean was so kind to help carry the food in. The patties were DELICIOUS!! Most of the people at the event had never eaten Haitian food before, and we got rave reviews from everyone in attendance. I will definitely be recommending Grep Kafe to others and looking for opportunities to order again!!

Google
I couldn't be happier with the cupcakes from Grep Kafe! They were absolutely delicious, with the perfect combination of soft, moist dough and just the right amount of sweetness. We ordered vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet for my kid's birthday party, and they were a huge hit with both the kids and the parents, who kept asking where we got them from. After a disappointing experience with cupcakes from another place last year, I’m so glad I chose Grep Kafe this time. Plus, the cafe itself is a cute spot, and the owners are incredibly friendly.

Google
I have been going to this cafe ever since they opened and everything was good. Then I started to notice that they have been giving less meat in both of the paties options, which people are spending money on and not getting the amount or the quality they paid for. I hope they fix this issue because it's a nice place

Google
This place is amazing, the only down side is I'm going to gain a few pounds living around the corner from here. I usually get the different patties but all of their options look delicious! I just got the chicken wings with pikliz and plantains tonight. Sooo good!

Yelp
We've passed by this bakery quite a few times and weren't disappointed when finally getting to try it out! They serve a variety of Haitian savory and sweet treats which are bound to satisfy any craving. The interior is pretty small so definitely more of a grab-and-go spot, but felt clean and homey. We got a patty and a cake to share, both of which were pretty delicious! The patty took a bit of time to heat up, but other than that, service was pretty solid. The price wasn't too bad, albeit a bit on the pricier side, and overall, I wouldn't mind coming back to some of their other selections in the future. For a local bakery, definitely worth visiting and supporting!

Yelp
Grep Kafe is a family and minority own business that specializes in Haitian bread and meat patties, and a variety of American/European style baked goodies (e.g., cakes, muffins, scones, cookies, croissants) The owner here was very nice and welcoming when i visited. Always appreciate good vibes and kind people! While the bakery sells a lot of sweet goodies, their most popular item here appears to be their meat patties. During my short stay here, i saw 5 or 6 other customers stop by and every single one of them had picked up some patties to go! I ended up getting a Haitian herring fish patty and a Jamaican beef patty myself for lunch and it was so good! The patties were warm, comforting, savory, and had a very nice buttery flaky shell. I even did my mini happy food dance because i was so satisfied and happy with my lunch. Also, the patties were only about $2 dollars each. An absolute steal for the quality!

Yelp
I've passed here so many times while driving. This evening I decided to stop and go in after an early dinner for pastries I was greeted by Dante the husband of the owner. He was very friendly and had many recommendations of what should be tried as first patrons. I purchased the bun and 2 Haitian patties (1 chicken) (1 beef). I'm having them Now and everything is so delicious. As a tip they have soup only made on Sunday's. I'll definitely return to give the soup a try.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and have been delighted by both the food and the friendliness of the owners. The chicken and beef patties were excellent -- very good filling and a buttery flaky crust (which was unexpected since I'm used to English-style patties with a more bread-like crust) On a whim, I tried the herring & egg patty as well; I'll withhold judgement on it until I try it again when I'm hungrier and more in the mood for fish. The pineapple cake is the only pastry I've tried so far, and it is spectacular -- rich, dense and sweet but not excessively so. Looking forward to getting it again as well as trying more of their pastries.

Yelp
My coworker and I were facilitating a workshop at a high local school. When we asked one of the students what he was most proud of, he said that his parents had just opened their own business, a Bakery. We were cutting it close with when we needed to catch our flight but couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit. I'm glad we went. We were able to meet the owner, she's such a kind soul, and her kid is a direct reflection of that. I ordered a fresh juice, a Reese cookie, and a chicken/beef patty. Every single thing was full of flavor and I could tell it was made with love. Thank you for sharing your son, your business, and this delicious food with us! If you're in the area and looking for a BOB to support look no further.

Yelp
As an out-of-towner I relied on customer ratings to choose this bakery. However, I was extremely disappointed. Everything I tried--whether pastries, muffins, or even the fudge--crumbled into dry bits upon tasting. The food was average at best. The young man at the counter could not explain the different pastries, and sold me coconut fudge instead of the milk fudge I requested. Very poor impression of this highly-rated bakery

Yelp
I had a very good blueberry muffin. Iv noticed a lot of muffin shops lack the butter flavor but this place hit the mark for me. I'd go back again. Also was giving at banana pineapple bread samples which I enjoyed

Yelp
Fantastic bakery - the food is fresh and incredibly delicious. They have the absolute best coffee around. Well worth joining their monthly coffee club. Everyone that works there are friendly and engaging. Their prices are incredible. I've nearly bought out half the bakery on a few occasions!
