"Perhaps it’s better known as a music venue, but the Grey Eagle has a booming following for the taqueria served out back, where there’s a charming outdoor area of mismatched lawn chairs. Yes, there are the classics like carnitas and carne asada, but the sizable menu also sports turmeric-roasted cauliflower, a borracho (drunken) roasted chicken with bacon, and spiced sweet potatoes with cotija." - Eric Barton

This is a take a whole day or afternoon kind of place. Check the schedule for live music, grab your patio table and never leave kind of joint! Food is incredible, we all had tacos, chips and guacamole, plantains with sauce, quesadillas and margaritas! Oh let us not forget the saucy burrito that was from another planet. We all were overjoyed with the food. Their special sauces are a must try and unique in flavor. Menu is priced very reasonably. Portions are generous. Food is very tasty and fresh. Highly recommend the brisket taco 🌮 The venue is large. Dog 🐕 friendly; there were several tables with their dogs present. We opted for outside patio and watched the band setup while we shoveled tacos into our faces. Great local low key vibes. Interior and exterior is decorated in a kitchen-cool items. We had to leave but wanted to stay as long as we could. So don’t be like us, plan better and stay to enjoy it full!

Very cool environment, especially during a show or performance! There's a nice seating area outside with a small stage, lots of shade and places to chill. The inside also has a nice sized stage and dance area. The food was really great and nice portions but just a bit expensive. I recommend stopping in. The service was kind and friendly, and the food was excellent.

Husband and I stopped by for lunch to do our part in helping put a little cash into the Arts District economy after the flood. We were amazed and surprised at the quality of the food and service! The Carnitas was absolutely phenomenal!

Google
Fun taco joint near the river arts district. The empanadas were the bomb, along with their house chips. The spicy chicken burrito was massive and turned into two more meals for my friend (epic). The season beef in my rice bowl was a unflavored unfortunately but overall we had a great experience. The beer is great, staff is friendly, and outdoor seating is lovely. Parking is limited when busy

Google
It is a very colorful location. The service was good, prompt, and courteous. My friend said it was one of the top five quesadillas she ever had. Mine was tasty, although it had a lot of juice from the chicken. Everyone in my group was happy with their food. The atmosphere is interesting and keeps you entertained looking at the posters on the wall, the painting, etc. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

I had the French Broad Brisket, Gone Fishin', and the Chips and Queso. Everything was delicious. The Cheerwine Habanero sauce stole the show. An intense and complex sweetness keeps you coming back for more. It pairs so well with the queso! Additionally, the staff are well put together, efficient, and helpful. The atmosphere is gentle on the senses and inviting.

Google
I love the Grey Eagle. They have a great atmosphere and have some of the most interesting bands of any venue in Asheville.

Came here from Tennessee to see Daniel Nunnelee! What a GREAT experience! The venue was super groovy and relaxing. Just the right size for a concert. Each employee was so kind in greeting us and showing us around. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed the Grey Eagle yet. Unless I'm getting tricked and this is my follow up review. Either way, always a five star for me. Ive loved this place for years. I do absolutely despise the parking situation especially when it gets busy. I don't have a solution and I wish I did. This last time we ended up walking like half a mile and paying for parking downtown. The night I went here, which was last night they were two shows happening, one on the patio, one inside. Dang! Way to monopolize the space. Everywhere around here seems to be getting super busy. I will say on the patio you couldn't hear anything inside and vice versa, so they do have it streamlined. I've been dying to try the food. It always looks so delicious and my friends give it rave reviews. They have a ton of vegetarian options. I think the drink prices are pretty fair for the area and they have a lot of diversity. This place is my favorite concert venue as of now. A total staple.

Yelp
The service here is very quick considering the large crowds at comedy shows and concerts. I had the bean quesadilla with sweet potatoes, and it was delicious! I loved the diet RC Cola, also. I didn't try any alcohol, but my husband enjoyed the cider selection.

Yelp
It seems all I hear about when it comes to tacos is stuff about "your mama"....a "duck"...and some "boy in west Asheville ", but the Grey Eagle is a true gem that gives you A LOT more food at better prices...and in this day and age in this town...we locals need a price break and deal for our work lunches...look no further than this place....great food...great prices....and funky...just like my hometown of Asheville

Yelp
During my recent visit to Asheville, I decided to try out this Mexican restaurant last weekend. The ambiance was pleasant, offering both patio and interior seating options, and the staff was friendly and attentive. However, I was quite disappointed with the food. It didn't live up to my expectations of Mexican cuisine. We ordered nachos and queso, but the queso lacked flavor, and the nachos were overly greasy. We also tried the chicken spinach quesadilla, which had a nice addition of spinach, but it was severely lacking in cheese, which was a letdown. Despite the pleasant atmosphere and great service, the food was the highlight, and unfortunately, it didn't meet the mark for an authentic Mexican dining experience.

Yelp
There was no shortage of great customer service! The staff was very friendly. Now that we've go that part out of the way....let's get to the food.... $8 for a single "Carnitas" taco with oriole slaw, onion, and sauce......2 partially grilled corn tortillas....the Carnitas were absolute mush. What's worst is I found something I can't even identify that was extremely crunchy. $5 for black beans on top of rice in an 8oz cup filled 2/3 of the way up. Daughter's chicken taco had an incredibly long black hair in it that we discovered halfway through our meal. I am all about keeping it local and supporting our community but the prices coupled with the issues we experienced proved to be too much for me to remain silent about. Sorry guys. We won't be back.

Yelp
Over 20 minutes for a sale that cost $27 they made incorrectly.... Truly astounding... If you can go somewhere else, do it

Yelp
This hipster, dive bar vibe restaurant serves up some legit tacos and burritos. While most concert venues offer your typical average bar food, Grey Eagle is a taqueria destination in its own right. Their tacos are fresh with a generous portion of meat, packed with flavor and that perfect bit of street taco char. Service is friendly and prompt. My fave is the specialty chicken taco - the Apple - A- Chia, the mix of sweet, savory and crunch is irresistible.

Yelp
Got a $7 black bean and sweet potato taco. It was tiny, the potatoes were burnt and it was barely seasoned. Eat before you come here.

Yelp
I have to have an exceptionally bad experience with a business to leave a negative review, and unfortunately, this was one of those experiences. Went here for lunch and the food was pretty good. We waited quite a while for it, which wouldn't have been a problem if it didn't add to the list of terrible experiences we had with the service. The lady who took our order was on the phone as we walked up, which was fine. However, when she hung up, she went back and forth for several minutes talking to the guys in the kitchen. We didn't mind waiting if orders need to be sorted out, however, she made absolutely no eye contact with us during this time and there was no "I'll be with you in a minute." Nothing. And then when she finally took our order, she seemed annoyed that we were even there. When the food finally came out, they just threw it on the counter without telling us it was ready. We didn't know until we happened to look in that direction, so no idea how long it was sitting out. As we were walking out, the lady shouted after us and asked us to bus our table, which, again, I don't mind doing - we just didn't know it was policy there. However, what really rubbed me the wrong way was that the most attention she paid to us was to ask us to clean because she didn't want to. Really didn't seem like anyone who worked there wanted to interact with customers in any helpful way. Honestly, I wanted to give them at least a few stars for the quality of the food, but this was such an unfriendly atmosphere, it ruined the entire experience and I can't recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Great food and a cozy patio. Friendly staff and good music. Part of a well-balanced trip to Asheville for the day.

Tharon S.

Yelp
Great food, cool eclectic vibe. Music sound was great. Wish they had more seating but it worked, we enjoyed it and will be back!

Christopher D.

Yelp
Just happened to cross paths with their taco wagon. I want to follow them to the promised land. My gf and I split the Carnitas taco and the chorizo taco and we could have done that all night. The char on the meat in both tacos just perfected the flavorful breadth of these pricey little bastards. So good, they actually manage to justify the higher than average price tag.

Yelp
I ate here several years ago while in town for work. It was my first time to ever try an arepa. And I was TOTALLY hooked. In the years since, I've tried a bunch of others, but nothing even came close to the ones from The Grey Eagle Taqueria. Fluffy and perfect. I can't recommend this place and the friendly staff enough.

Pete B.

Yelp
An Asheville classic for a reason. Solid food, great margaritas, good tap selection, and usually good live music. What's not to like? Get a few tacos and a beverage and hang out in the outdoor areas. Great way to either prepare or recover from a walk around the arts district.

Daniel O.

Yelp
If you like nasty this is it. Look at their rating when you walk in and decide if you would then eat. Bartenders do not know the difference between a splash and a quart. With the right owner this place might be good which I think once was. Nasty staff.

Yelp
Looking for an easy dinner spot when we found this place. It was a Sunday night and, not knowing a show was about to start, we wandered in. The ONLY nice lady greeted us at the front desk and asked if we were here to see the show. We said nope, just stopped in for tacos. She said that was fine and just asked if we weren't intending on staying to hear the music, that we didn't linger after eating. No problem. So we go in the taqueria (which is connected to the main stage section, so you have a view of whatever band is playing while you're eating) and order 4 tacos with chips and salsa, total is like $27. Not the best, but could be worse. The guy behind the register seemed grouchy and like he was doing us a favor by taking our order. You have to get drinks from a separate bar section, so my husband gets a beer and the bar tender asks to see his stamp for the show. We told her we were only getting food and hadn't planned on staying, but she said once 7:00 came around, we would have to pay for tickets in order to stay. It was like 6:45 at this time, we had already been waiting for about 20 minutes for our food, and there was absolutely nowhere to sit because everyone who came for the music was hanging in the tacorita. Mind you, I'm not an asshole and totally understand policy, but the way everything was approached is what pissed me off. No one told us about outdoor seating or even gave us an option that was anything other than you're here, you're paying for tickets. Soooo it's not a restaurant open to the public? Anyway, staff was busy and didn't handle it very well. This older lady waited so long for her food, she asked for her order to go and the guy all but threw her order in a box and shoved it her way without saying a word. Another guy who ordered after us asked for his food to be made to go too. When we finally got our food, we decided to carry it outside since we weren't welcome in the taqueria. Luckily, there were a couple tables and chairs outside to choose from, but holy crap did we get attacked by flies. Food was decent. I ordered a carnitas taco, as well as a chicken. Chicken was delicious, but the carnitas seemed slightly burnt. We asked to have cheese added for an additional cost and boy did they skimp. My husband got two steak tacos and said they weren't bad at all. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't get the chips and salsa. Salsa lacked in flavor and I honestly thought it came from a jar. Chips were alright homemade, but no way would I pay $4 for them again. I might have given a higher rating if I actually felt welcome. This place is probably a pretty cool venue and their show schedule had some decent names on it, but it's run by a bunch of jerkface hipsters.

Yelp
Phenomenal tacos! The lime shrimp taco is to die for. Make sure to get a margarita. You only need one ;)

Yelp
I'm so glad I landed in The grey eagle during my short retreat in Asheville. They have exactly what I wanted; great tacos and beer in a very laid back atmosphere. The tacos are made exactly how I like them, with onions, cilantro and lime; excellent. But the truly distinctive characteristic of the place is the hospitality of the crew. I'm not the most friendly guy but they treated my like I was their brother. They even gave me free food. I'll definitely come back to The grey eagle. It may even be the reason why I come to Asheville next.

Yelp
Imposter Mexican food. Tomato sauce salsa had no flavor. Sour staff disposition. Music was the redeeming quality.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
I ordered the pillow t.a.l.k. taco yesterday afternoon. I thought it was going to be beet forward and larger chunks of beet. It was hard to distinguish the beets from the tomatoes in the pico de gallo. I would have the lentils just as a side and liked the tortillas itself. I thought the lentils overpowered the other components of the taco. I also am unsure if the vegan chorizo was in my taco. I was assuming it would be a little spicy with the meat substitute and have larger pieces rather than minced and put in the lentils for flavor.

Yelp
Wonderful music venue with equally impressive food. It's not the most glamorous location but the food more than makes up for it. I've eaten here a couple times for shows but wouldn't hesitate to go just for the food either. The carnitas and chorizo tacos are delicious and their portions are very generous, 2 is filling and 3 if you're really hungry. My personal favorite though is the Arepa, you can fill it with any protein and it comes packed with cheese and onions too. The best part: the arepa is fried to perfection, yum!

Mary K.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon the Grey Eagle food truck at Green Man Brewery and I'm so glad we did! These tacos are to die for. We ordered their chorizo taco, carnitas taco, salsa and Guac. Both tacos were generously full of meat and absolutely delicious! The meat was seared which created a great texture. The salsa was fresh and flavorful - I think there was a twist of cucumber. Guac was also great... my boyfriend and I considered going back for seconds, but they were sold out. HIGHLY recommend!!

Amber G.

Yelp
I was happy to see all of the vegan options since it's hard to come by. We got nachos with lentil chorizo and added guacamole. The whole thing lacked much flavor and just tasted like canned black beans. Even the guacamole just tasted like mashed avocado. Expensive meal for what you get. The outdoor patio was nice and unique. The cocktails were yummy. I'm sure it's a great place to drink cocktails and listen to music, just wouldn't order food again.

Jay M.

Yelp
Awesome lunch spot for tacos and beer without breaking the bank. Lots of outdoor seating and the inside was well sectioned off to properly social distance. Good vegetarian options as well!

Emma K.

Yelp
Stopped in here to feed the fam as everyone was getting a bit hangry. We honestly just stumbled in not expecting much and were very pleasantly surprised. The food is fresh and flavorful. The portions are sizeable for the price. The atmosphere as a whole is cool and relaxing. Wish I lived here so I could make this place a regular spot!! Asheville you're too lucky!!
