Grilled Fraiche (Long Beach)

This is some of the best Caribbean Food in Southern CA. The sauces are amazing, the stew is really tasty, the noodle dish is amazing, the dessert is fantastic, and bowls are great too. You get healthy high quality food for a reasonable price. I highly recommend.

I've been a long-time fan of Grilled Fraiche since 2016 when they were still rolling around in a food truck. Grilled Fraiche is a Black-owned Cali-Caribbean cuisine. They have a large selection of vegan and halal meals. I first met them at the California African American Museum during an exhibition opening party. The owner, Peace, was running around back then and he's still running the place today! I'm so happy that he went from a food truck to three locations. I've been to the South LA location and finally Long Beach. The food is delicious and fresh. We ordered the vegan crab cakes, Cajun onion rings, chicken street tacos, chicken garlic noodles with vegan dream sauce, and bread pudding. The vegan crab cake has a good texture and flavor. I love the Cajun onion rings, very flavorful. The chicken garlic noodles are very garlicky (in a good way) and buttery. The bread pudding was really good and I need to get more of that! That fried plantain still hit the spot, too. Please come support them at this restaurant!

This place was absolutely amazing. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! We had the vegan crab cake bowl and all I have to say is wow. Please stop by here if you get a chance. You will not be disappointed.

I’ve been to 3 of the Grilled Fraiche locations and each has its own thing I like. What I like about the Long Beach location is the healing energy you feel when you walk in—thanks to the thoughtful and uplifting quotes. The essential oils diffuser, the subtle candles, mildly upbeat music, and flora inspired decor all provide a homey feeling. The service was outstanding—from our attentive and prompt server Marley to the chef Angelica. They make sure you get exactly what you like and that it is to your liking. They also provide excellent recommendations. Don’t get me started on the food!!! Their menu has options for the meat lover (such as myself), those who prefer plant based foods, and everything in between. I especially loved the patties (we tried the spinach, curry chicken, and spicy barbecue chicken) and the oxtail. I couldn’t decide which I liked more between the classic shrimp and grits I got and the shrimp and salmon croquettes my fiancée got. They have a selection of sauces for every taste palette. I also like that you can sit down if you want or get your food to go. I recommend this spot.

I was floored by the food here the oxtail bowl I had was cooked to perfection, I could cut the oxtails with a fork they were so tender, with Jasmine rice and fresh veggies with a plantain also. Pictures don't do this bowl justice, it was wider and deeper than my grandma's gumbo bowls. They also have a Jerk sauce that you have to try, it adds a nice kick to your meal and you don't need to use the whole container. My friends had the shrimp and grits, and the grilled salmon on noodles. They loved every bite, highly recommend this restaurant. It was clean, the service was good, and the staff made me feel comfortable. A great experience.

First time based on reviews and it “DELIVERED”. The “Believe” stew should be called “BELIEVER” because once you taste, you’ll become one. Their featured item is their “Ox Tail” bowl. It was incredible (great flavor and “falling of the bone” tender). Staff were super friendly and it was getting crowded so come early. Can’t wait to try the pockets.

The food is freshly cooked and tastes great. It is a bit more pricey than you would expect. I ordered takeout even though I have walked past this restaurant many times. I had the salmon coquette bowl and it was excellent. The jerk sauce was awesome.

We tried the onion rings, garlic noodles w/salmon and a special, vegan crab cake bowl that was 🤯😋. I wish I had left room for dessert. I love that it's vegan friendly, plenty of options for vegans & meat eaters 😂.

I highly recommend you visit Grilled Fraiche. While their menu is along the pricier side, it's all worth it. The vibes of the restaurant are amazing when you choose to dine in. Very relaxing music, lots of plant decor, and the air just feels pure. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. They often give out mini servings of beans or other items to try out while you wait for your meal. Even starting with that is super delicious. Their menu is simple, and you can't go wrong with any of the options! I typically go with the Quesadilla or Burrito and both taste amazing. Pretty solid serving sizes as well.

Fresh flavorful food! We had a quesadilla and bowl. Both with chicken which was tender and flavorful. The staff are friendly and helpful :) A must try place!

I heard the sad news that Grilled Fraiche was shutting down all locations. Then I got the good news that they decided to keep their Long Beach location open! So yeah, the day THAT news came out, we immediately went back. I decided to switch up my order this time and went for their Salmon Croquettes and the jerk chicken patty. I've never had a non-vegan patty so I was curious. 1) That jerk chicken is AMAZING. The patties are always solid but that jerk chicken stuffing was so good. I wish they would have it as a regular protein option because I'd get that in a bowl or wrap, easily. 2) The salmon croquettes look overcooked in the picture and could potentially be dry, but it was surprisingly really good. It wasn't heavy on breadcrumbs and didn't really need the side of dressing at all. I hope they experiment with the jerk chicken as a normal protein option because it was unbelievable. As usual, fantastic service and food! I'm glad they kept this location open!

I got sad when I heard they were closing and now I'm happy to hear they're staying! I enjoyed the meals I've had here. Very colorful with the veggies. Once I had salmon because they didn't have oxtail. I was told what day to come back for the oxtail and of course I went back and had it. They're so friendly and welcoming. Come by and support this business! Located to the right of Trader Joe's.

Went here for a reserved large group and it was wonderful! It's in a plaza so there's plenty of parking which is HARD to find in long beach. The manager is really kind too and served us all with grace. We got a sample of their bean soup which was quite spicy/seasoned. Appetizers can add up in terms of pricing. cabbage rolls are okay, like vegetable egg rolls which don't fit my palate and was not what I was expecting the house sauce is sweet. The fries were soo perfect, warm, fluffy, and seasoned. My favorite were the plantains, not too sweet sour or starchy, perfectly balanced and not oily. The vegan crab cakes had a nice texture but were a but oily. The patties were like flaky empandas, Jerk chicken was not spicy and the beef was the best seasoned. It takes around 20 min to bake. I also enjoyed the garnishes of chives and sprouts. The garlic noodles are mushier and quite creamy than what I'd expect for garlic noodles. There was a proper portion of seafood/meat, but i found the chicken to be quite tender. I found out I didn't like the jerk sauce because I expected it to be spicy but it was on the salty side so I would suggest getting sauce on the side. Portion is decent. The bread pudding had a delicious caramel sauce that was buttery and not too sweet. The bread pudding is quite dense. Overall, I can see why people visit the restaraunt. Very small business vibes with limited space and nice ambiance. The manager/main waitress adds to the vibe and the service is nice/homely.

Came here for a quick bite and was not disappointed! If you are in the mood for amazing caribbean food, which is a bit hard to find in OC, definitely try this place! The patties were amazing we tried a couple different flavors and they were delicious and very fresh. We got the chicken bowl which comes with rice veggies and a plantain(so good) and we got jerk sauce on top. The inside is very small and there were no seats so we ended up getting it to go but i'd like to come back to eat inside! The service was great the employee that helped us was very friendly and said they were making fresh patties so it took a bit longer but was worth it! There are many other items on the menu that i want to try when i'm back.

I was craving Caribbean patties and saw the sign for Grilled Fraiche. The place was colorful and clean, inside and out. There are tables for dining in. The woman that took my order was very welcoming. I ordered patties. She asked if I was willing to wait 18 minutes it would take to cook them. I told her yes and she offered me water while I waited. I enjoyed the flavors of the beef patty as well as the flaky crust. The jerk patty was just OK.

Grabbed lunch here today. And the first thing you need to know is everything here is FLAVOR-FULL!! We were there at opening and there were to go orders but not a lot of diners sitting. We sat and enjoyed our meal and the service was very friendly and helpful even though it's a pretty casual spot. They checked on us and asked how the food was. There are a time of vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat here so a great place for everyone to get a good meal. The beef patty- wow, the crust was amazing, meat seasoned so well. The ox tails were tender and the sauce was absolutely delicious. And do not pass on the guava punch!

The vibes of this shop were great - you can order out, or order and eat there. We were greeted by the very friendly owner Peace who took us through the menu and gave us a sample of the "believe stew" (super tasty!) Food came out quickly and the flavors were delicious! The curry chicken patty - phenomenal! Also got the salmon croquette, a bowl with halal chicken + their jerk sauce, garlic noodle with jumbo shrimp + their house sauce, and their decadent ass BREAD PUDDING. The portions were perfect for lunch. We'll absolutely be coming back again

We heard Angelica and Peace opened grilled fraiche in Long Beach back up so we had to go to support them. We love this place so much. Ox Tail Bowl - ate the ox tail with a spoon. Just unbelievably tender and delicious. Came with veggies rice and the amazing believe stew. Sells out all the time. Shrimp and Grits - so savory and buttery and cheesy. Shrimp are a great size and delicious. Garlic Noodles with chicken - my kids (2 and 3) demolished all the noodles in minutes. I had to sneak some before they finished it off. Great flavor and there is no extra sauce or mess, the flavor is cooked right into the noodles. We got chicken on top but any protein is available. Chicken Bowl - this is my wife's go to. Chicken rice and veggies. Vegan Dream sauce. Everything cooked perfectly. We finish the whole bowl regularly. The character of the owners always blows me away as well. We had some rambunctious kids with us and Angelica was so welcoming and understanding. She also fed one of our unhoused neighbors in the area because she could tell he was having a tough time. Just one of the genuinely nicest people I've ever met. We couldn't be happier that they are trying to keep this location. Please support. It's great healthy food.

5/5 from a long-time vegetarian (includes vegan/plant-based review): I've been to Grilled Fraiche twice, and both times were an amazing experience. Both friend groups I've took here thoroughly enjoyed their meal too! I particularly love how they have plenty of both plant-based and meat forward options with the menu clearly labeled, so it's incredibly easy to dine here if your party has different dietary needs. The food: The first time, I ordered a fully vegan crab cake bowl and replaced the rice with salad. The crab cakes were crispy and the fresh salad mix was delicious with it! It also came with grilled veggies and a coconut bean soup on the side. The second time I ordered garlic noodles without any meat toppings. Note, the garlic noodles were not vegan because they don't carry plant based butter in the store, but they offered to leave out the butter. I didn't enjoy the garlic noodles as much as the crab cake bowl, because they felt a little too greasy and the flavor was not as complex. I also ordered the vegan rolls for the table and my friends and I enjoyed those though! Everything else: The store is nicely decorated, and smells of a nice citrus essential oil. Service here is a bit slower paced, but I do think it's because both times I've been they've had quite the line and not enough tables for the demand. But even so, the staff were incredibly attentive helpful. The first time, we were given samples of their soup. The second time we stopped by an hour before closing and the store was very busy so there wasn't any available seats enough for the three of us. We waited on the side and the staff helped clean out and reserve a table for us once a party before us left. They even offered us some leftovers they couldn't sell at the end of the day since we were the last party to leave. There's plenty of parking in the plaza and the store is located near a Trader Joe's. If you're in the area, definitely make an effort to stop by!

What a gem!!!! It's located in the Target shopping center, closer to Trader Joe's. Although there's plenty of parking, it can be difficult to find a spot. The restaurant is warm and inviting. There's not a ton of tables indoors and I could see this being a challenge during prime time hours, but not a deal breaker. The food is AMAZING! Everything we ordered had so much flavor and totally hit the spot! I would definitely recommend!

My favorite dish was the oxtail. I would highly recommend it. The meat was so soft and tender. Plantains were good too.

I loved this little food place since they opened. The owners are so very friendly along with every other employee! They always offer you something to drink, like lemon water, while waiting at their super cute tables decked out with an orchid and trader Joe's hand sanitizer. The music is always enjoyable and soothing. They have a diffuser releasing calming scents and other decor like stuff you'd see in a relaxation spa. I honestly feel peaceful when I go there! Now the food is DELICIOUS and unique! You have got to try Believe stew, stuffed rolls and onion rings! We always get the salmon bowl and it never disappoints. I have always been more than satisfied and full from their food. What a gem! This is one of two locations I think and I sure hope the owners spreads more of his peace and love and yummy food to all of Los Angeles county.

This is an excellent spot with healthy, hearty, delicious food. Their customer service is top notch. Super cute restaurant to meet up with friends or take yourself out solo.

Yay! They only closed for a week! They managed to keep our Long Beach location open. Boy was I excited when I randomly called and they answered and informed me that they were still going to be open by popular demand!! People if you're reading this and have never tried the amazingly tasteful food here, PLEASE don't hesitate!

The food was hands down 10/10. When we first walked in we sampled the believe beans and I believe those were the best tasting beans I've ever had lol. I could literally just eat the beans alone. After trying the beans I knew I had to order them, so I got the crab cake bowl, and it was delicious! My husband got the Oxtail bowl and he said they were 10/10 he's a Oxtail guy and for him to really like them, they were good! The ambiance was really nice and peaceful. We decided to eat there. The really nice lady who took our order was really sweet and helpful when it came to deciding what to get. I love that everything was flavorful. This is our new go to spot!!!

Flavor 5/5 I enjoyed everything we ate here. The believe stew was unbelievable (pun intended)! But seriously, everything was delicious, and the garlic sauce was incredible. Price 3.5/5 The prices are on the high side, but the quality is as well. My only complaint is I wish the quesadilla came with a side of veggies or the stew instead of rice. Quality 4.5/5 The sauces are all housemade, and the ingredients they use are organic! I'm unsure if the meat is ethically sourced, if there are additives, or what cooking oil they use, so I'll update my review when I find out! Service 5/5 The staff was extraordinarily kind and checked on us often. I usually take a while to order, and she was patient and gave me suggestions. Highly recommend!! Ambiance: cozy, fun, & urban.

Did somebody say Caribean food? Yes, mamsir. First time here (04/25/2024) I don't usually post, but when I do, best believe it's the ish. Service is friendly with a smile. Always a plus these days. Ambiance is clean and spacious with hand sanitizer sprays on each table. Food...oh, so good. I got the jerk bean soup (believe stew), plantains, and spinach empanada something something (from display case) because why not. I was stuffed. Sorry, no pics, but this is the spot for you if you're a local, just visiting, or want to try something new. Taste and see. It's definitely a comeback spot, for sure.

Food, service, and atmosphere are absolutely amazing and definitely well deserving of the 5 star rating they have. I've been looking for a place that sells Jamaican beef patties since moving back from Toronto (where there was a plethora of Jamaican food) so my boyfriend and I decided to stop by and check this place out. Food: Their beef patties are perfect and remind me exactly of the patties I had back in Canada-- 11/10. Their complimentary water is infused with cucumber, lemon, and lime which is super refreshing. We also ordered the shrimp & grits-- that was fire too 11/10. So much flavor!! Service: Super friendly, personable and attentive. Ambiance: Cute, cozy, and peaceful. I loved the music, the essential oil aroma, and the decorations. Not to mention how clean it is overall. I feel like it's uncommon to find a spot that offers what this place does, as in creativity, unique food, and good portions. Will definitely return when we're in the area. :))

My friends and I came here for a casual lunch after hiking. Grilled Fraiche is located in a strip mall in Long Beach. The ambiance is very casual, but bright and clean. They operate on an order and pay-first model. The food here is described as "Cali-Caribbean", and the menu features some Caribbean influenced dishes, but for the most part, it's a highly westernized Caribbean place. I ordered the salmon salad today and was disappointed because my friend got the oxtail, which was the special for the day, that I'd failed to see. The food took around 20 minutes to come out. We were all happy with our food, but the oxtail was clearly the best dish. I don't live in the area and don't think I will come back here to eat, but would recommend if you're in the area and looking for a Caribbean meal that's inexpensive.

Delicious food. Their believe stew, which is given as a free sample and part of many of their meals, is super delicious. I ordered just the stew to go along with my lunch. For a fast casual restaurant, the service here was helpful, friendly, and very professional. They worked hard here. It's a great option to bring your vegan or pescatarian friends, as the food here is delicious even without the meat. The sauces are great, the tacos are great, and the food is brought out quickly. Fast food preparation, and a natural interior design here, with flowers and plants. You should know this is next to an extremely busy parking lot, so give yourself time to park.

This was a new place my hula sisters and I tried at LB service was awesome atmosphere service was polite and patient. Especially with us #fab5 being indecisive . The food was exceptionally yummy! This place is VERY close to a 5 stars for me, so I had a really hard time rating this place. When you walk in, the menu is there for you to view and then you are greeted by a very friendly worker. All the workers there are great and look happy to help you. I ended up going with a bowl with jerk chicken and house sauce, a burrito with jerk chicken and jerk sauce, and the Believe Stew. First off, the bowl with jerk chicken was really good! It comes with beans and rice and the chicken is well seasoned. The house sauce is a bit sweet and spicy and very much well balanced. The burrito with jerk chicken was good because it came with the believe stew beans, which i absolutely love. They also gave us small samples while we waited which i thought was a nice touch. The jerk sauce is pretty spicy, so be warned if you dont do well. The side of Believe Stew is just a bowl of black beans with coconut milk and a delicious combination of spices. I dont know whats in it, but its the best black beans ive ever had. Everything here is great food wise, the only reason for 4 stars is because its a bit pricey. A burrito/bowl for $15 is a little steep and a side of small Believe Stew was $8. If they gave slightly more food, I would definitely say its 5 stars, but I had to factor in value when rating, so I went with 4 stars. If you're reading this, I would highly recommend you visit and try their food. You'll get delicious food and friendly service which really makes for a great experience.

Came for a birthday brunch, party of 8. They were able to accommodate our party and greeted us with a smile and sample of the Believe stew. O M G was that good!!! Since there were quite a few of us, I wanted to order family style so that we can try a variety of dishes. They accommodated this request as well! I didn't realize how much came in an order so we ordered waaaaaay too much food! Everything was absolutely delicious. We had the spinach patties, jerk patties, vegan crab bowl, curry goat bowl, crab cakes, macaroni and cheese rolls, chicken tacos, garlic noodles, salmon croquettes and believe stew (doh). Had several orders of everything so it was A LOT of food. Oh and the variety of sauces, to die for! Everything was super favorable and good portion sizes. The service was phenomenal from those in the back to Angelica, our server. She was friendly and very helpful. Since it was my bday, she made sure I got a free banana bread to take home. Hey, it's the little things! The only negative, and believe me when I say I had to search for one (negative), was the plastic forks and cups. It is such a zen experience and having the plastic settings was a very small let down. Won't keep me from coming back but a real fork and glass would've been nice. Overall, I loved my experience. Good food and great service makes for a memorable time. I will be back. Although we tried quite a bit on the menu, there's more to explore and I'm super excited to come back. I can vouch for the good reviews: THIS PLACE IS AMAZING and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Love, love, love Grilled Fraiche! It's close to my workplace, so I pop by pretty often and they never disappoint. The Believe Stew remains my favorite, but the garlic noodles with chicken (and plantains on the side) is a close #2. I am always greeted with a welcoming hello and a warm smile - much appreciated!

Grilled Fraiche is like one part fast casual food spot, one part mindfulness retreat. You walk in, take a deep breath, and see suddenly time seems to move differently here. There was one girl working the counter (who was very sweet), and a couple women in the kitchen who I could hear laughing and chatting during quieter moments. The overall energy in this place felt really relaxed and positive. This was a solo lunch adventure (which I rarely do), but I didn't feel lonely in this space. I ordered the believe stew and a jerk chicken patty, and am now convinced that this meal is my new panacea for when I'm feeling burnt out. Like it seriously changed my mood, it was that good. Believe Stew -- this is seriously one of the best things I think I have ever eaten. Black beans and kidney beans, swimming in a sweet coconut broth, amplified with warming spices, green onion, and peppers (both of the sweet and hot variety). You could see the little slivers of scotch bonnet peppers floating around in there adding the robust heat. It was slightly spicy and mellow/soothing at the same time and super substantial -- I didn't expect to get as full as I did from a small. I know it's just a matter of time before I march on back and get this again. Jerk Chicken Patty -- absolutely freaking delicious. The crust was tender and flaky, and it was generously filled with shredded, super moist and flavorful chicken. They aren't messing around with their jerk either, it's definitely got some character and some heat. Highly recommended, especially if you are a spice seeker.

This was one of the more interesting experiences where waiting is the name of the game and patience rewards you with good food. I'm not saying it was a busy place, but waiting more than half an hour after we had ordered was even for my taste a little long. It was a nice little sample taste of the believe stew which was flavorful and warm. But the idle time after that was a little too much even for me. It was good flavorful portion of garlic noodles with plantains but I can't really say much more about the experience. It was nice they had table side alcohol free hand sanitizer and a little cactus as table settings, but that was the sum of the experience other than waiting a while for food on a not so busy lunch.

This place is amazing from the food to ambience and excellent customer service! It's our third time here and it has always been consistently great! We tried: oxtail, rice and beans, jerk chicken and the patties. All exceptional! If you are looking to eat delicious food don't hesitate; you won't regret it!

Very good food. It's a little more expensive than you would expect but the quality and taste of the food is excellent. I ordered takeout and the reason for 4 stars is that I got only 3 salmon croquettes in the bowl instead of 4. The taste was very good and the food was freshly cooked. The jerk sauce was delicious.

I had been wanting to try this restaurant since I read an article featuring it. It did not disappoint. Everything was seriously delicious. We ordered five things and each had a completely distinct and unique flavor. Even some flavors that I'd never quite tasted before. The place is cute and the service was very friendly and personal. The food was hot and fresh so this is not a complaint, but we did wait a bit for the food to come out, just as info. All over a very tasty and enjoyable experience. The believe stew is unreal how tasty it is.

A coworker introduced this restaurant to me after I said we should seek out something different for lunch. Overall I was pleased with the food and service. Our waitress (forgot her name) was friendly and very attentive to all tables despite working solo in the dining area. I got the salmon garlic noodle plate. I will say the garlic noodles, while basic, deserve 5+ stars. I dont normally eat noodle plates, but their green garlic noodles were awesome. The salmon was a great protein choice, fresh and well prepared. I got a side of the vegan dream sauce to dip my salmon in, pretty decent combination.. I feel like they should dress the front of the restaurant up a little more to make it stand out.

Charming spot that is so bright and cheerful! The staff is amazing and they know their food and great customer service! Calling all foodies, especially vegetarians and pescatarians!!! You gotta check this place out! As soon as you walk in, you immediately feel grounded in the space. The ambiance sets you up to enjoy every meal that comes out of that kitchen! We ordered crab cakes (2) with Aioli Sauce, Believe Stew with a side of Jasmine Rice, Garlic Noodles with Salmon and Veggies, Shrimp and Grits, and Stuffed Rolls (6). EVERYTHING we ordered tasted delicious! The crab cakes were light on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Believe Stew was so comforting! I could not stop eating this stew, every bite made me say, hmmm! The stuffed rolls served with the House Sauce were crunchy on the outside and had yummy veggies on the inside. The shrimp and grits were delicious too! Lastly, the Garlic Noodles with Salmon and Veggies along with a side of aioli sauce was light, healthy, and full of flavor! I will definitely go back! The service provided was excellent!

I recently moved to the area and came across this spot on Yelp. I am SO glad I did! This place is a trie gem. The restaurant itself is small, with lots of charm. Our host was so kind and accommodating, and you can tell the food was prepared with care and lots of flavor!! We ordered: 1. Vegan crab cake bowl - this was so delicious!! It comes with the believe stew, which is sooo flavorful and tasty!! 2. Curry goat - my partner ordered this and LOVED it! Also comes with the believe stew. 3. Salmon croquettes - I grew up eating salmon croquettes, and these are fire. Order them. You won't be disappointed!! 4. Curry chicken patty - this was also good. Moist yet slightly crisp on the outside. Full of flavor. The believe stew was a side dish for us, but deserves its own review. This stew was so good, we tried to recreate it at home!! There's a mix of black beans and red kidney beans, with a touch of coconut and just the right amount of spice. Order this one. Trust me.

What an exceptional dining experience. Wonderful food. Really really tasty. Good size portions. Low to pricing. Could easily raise prices 25%. Should ask if people want drinks to enhance revenue as well. (I want this place to succeed!) Fantastic personalized service. If only every restaurant were this good!

Absolutely I'd recommend this place. The food is delicious. The vibe inside is awesome. And the staff exceptional! We were also recommended here, and we loved it! We ordered, the garlic noodle with salmon, believe stew, plantains, stuffed rolls, crab cake patties, and bread pudding! It's was ALL so yummy!

This is the best bread pudding I've ever had ! We were lucky to have our food delivered we are so thankful for our feast today. I wish I took pictures of everything. I think I'm addicted to the garlic noodles they are so savory and delicious. I can't wait to try other dishes on their menu.

The GF is a the place to be. So many good options. Great customer, amazing food, beautiful spot with a nice vibe.
