"Gringo a Go Go’s cantina style taco offerings are unique in that they offer a large number of vegetarian and vegan fillings alongside the classics. There are vegan versions of al pastor, pollo, chorizo, carnitas, and beef as well as vegetarian fillings like potato and nopales. Of course omnivores can always opt for a classic pork carnitas or asada steak taco. All tacos are enhanced by a huge selection of salsas such as pico de gallo, chipotle, serrano, peanut, and more." - Matt Lardie

Several years ago it used to be a great place with delicious food. But around 2023-2024 quality started declining. We went here last year and were surprised by the service, and food. Food was flavorless, vegan chicken taco came without sauce as it used to and looked sloppy. Drinks came in regular glasses, they used to serve them in fun margarita glasses. Our server was new, which is fine, but he didn’t know the menu and names of the dishes. I was really surprised that quality of food declined so drastically. My vegan alambre was, I mentioned, flavorless, there was no saltiness, nothing. Food wasn’t plated well. Black beans were literally reheated canned black beans… my husband’s food was also flat and flavorless. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants but not anymore, unfortunately

This was our first visit. The food was good. The chips nice and crisp. The salsa was different than what we were used to. Nice atmosphere. JP was very nice, patient and attentive. He made the experience great. We would definitely go back.

Google
Cute white building with three or four parking spaces out front. Street parking accessible. Fun colorful decor, some Mexican Day of the Dead iconography. Clean, prompt service. Great attention to detail, classy. The menu delineates Vegan and Vegetarian options. I had the Vegan Chorizo in my burrito. Yummy! I don’t always go meatless, but when I do, it needs to match the flavor I might get in carnivorous counterparts. The Vegan Chorizo Burrito did not disappoint. We had authentic chips and guac as starters, so delicious! If you’re going out, go go go to Gringo A Go Go!!

We went to Gringo a Go Go at 7:30 PM on Friday night in March. It was a little cool, so we wanted to sit inside, though the outside is nice setup. We sat at the bar. The bartender gave just the right amount of service. Food came out quick. Drinks were well made and tasty. The Alambre with Al Pastor was one of the best Mexican meals I have had in a while.

I've been here a few times (and done an in-depth review that Google has decided doesn't exist anymore for some reason) and really like it. They have a lot of gluten free and vegan options, especially as taco fillings. They offer vegan cheese, sour cream, rice and beans also. The menu is well labeled. I would've taken more pictures of it, but they were on my last review that has now mysteriously disappeared. So I'll have to add more menu pics when I go back again. Overall, I really like the food and the atmosphere there. Good choices for everyone in your party, no matter the dietary restrictions. So this is a place I'd highly suggest checking out if you're in the area. ***Update 5/22/25*** I took my daughter here for her birthday and we both really enjoyed it. I got the Red Chilaquiles with the vegan chicken, vegan cheese and vegan sour cream. I was told that this time, the only vegan meats that weren't gluten free were the carnitas and the beef. But it can change, depending on the sourcing, so make sure you ask each time if you require gluten free. My daughter got a chicken quesadilla and a beef taco. She really liked the beef in the taco and the quesadilla overall, except for the chicken. So are says next time she'll just get a beef quesadilla and combine the best of both worlds.

Google
Been here a few times and I’ve never been disappointed. The food is amazing and flavorful and doesn’t taste processed, the wait staff is super friendly and the service is quick. The atmosphere is pleasant but a little loud. Overall I highly recommend.

Google
Gringo A Go Go has soooo many vegan and vegetarian options. I was impressed. The vegan chorizo con queso was surprisingly good. The chips and salas: enough for two people. The Asada steak fillied burrito was stuffed with the most delicious steak. The tequila flight was the star of the show. The sangria was sweet and garnished with fruit. The ranch water was lite and refreshing. Great service!!! Great bar drinks!! Leave with the intentions to look for parking. They have outdoor seating with heaters and protecting from elements.

Google
I had the pomegranate martini and the red pork enchiladas. Service was attentive and pleasant, food and martini were tasty, and prices reasonable. More vegetable options would be nice. Altogether very enjoyable!

Yelp
I absolutely love the meatless options they have here!! Especially for Mexican food it's usually just beans, but their "carnitas" are fire!! I ordered the chorizo burrito last time and it too did not disappoint. We have dined in and done takeout. Service is always good, he triple checked our takeout order. The vibe is nice, can get packed in there and patio but we always enjoy the food!

Yelp
Gringo A Go-Go has such a fun vibe. Inside and outside seating. I ordered the chicken tacos, which were good but incredibly oily (like a pool of oil). My husband really liked his one taco (the one with the pineapple) and was just okay about the others. Salsas were good. The margarita is served in a water glass and used orange juice? That was a little odd. We'll be back because we can walk here and I'd love to give the enchiladas a shot!

Zachariah S.

Yelp
A great little spot in a great little historic area of Raleigh. The staff was great and the food was great as well. They get their tortilla fresh locally and the chips as well. And you can taste it. The carnita tacos were extremely flavorful and the drinks were well prepared. I would definitely want to come back and try more items on the menu. I recommend others give it a shot as well

Yelp
Last weekend, my wife and I decided to try Green Go A Go Go, a Mexican restaurant that's been on our radar for its rave reviews. We were particularly excited to try their carne asada burrito, a dish we both love. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the ambiance. The restaurant boasted a very unique and artistic decor that set a vibrant and inviting mood. This aspect of our experience was definitely a highlight. However, when it came to food, our experience was mixed. We were intrigued by the waiter's enthusiastic recommendation of their barbacoa tacos and added them to our order. While these tacos were extremely delicious with their rich, meaty flavor, they were somewhat on the dry side and notably expensive. The main event, the carne asada burrito, unfortunately, didn't live up to our expectations. It closely resembled a bean burrito with scant meat, a letdown for a place known for its burritos. In conclusion, while the barbacoa tacos had their charm despite the dryness and price, and the ambiance was a delightful surprise, the carne asada burrito was a miss for us. We believe there are better options available in Raleigh for a fulfilling carne asada burrito experience. Our quest continues!

Yelp
We had a great dinner. Guac and chips were awesome. Had the Barbacoa tacos which were delicious. Spicy margarita also very good. Joe our server was super.

Yelp
Overall, it's probably the best tasting Mexican food and drinks I have had in downtown Raleigh. What people don't like is that it's higher end price point for certain items on the menu... the $5 chips & salsa for example. If you're looking for bottomless chips and salsa, melted queso that looks like nacho cheese and a crunchy taco this isn't your place. I found the menu to be fair for what you'd pay for dining out at a downtown restaurant. I wish they did brunch all weekend, but I believe they only do Sunday brunch. Enchiladas were great. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Service was decent. Ambiance can be loud and tight.

José A.

Yelp
This was my first time in this restaurant, and I had a great experience. It has a fun and colorful atmosphere with lots of food and drinks in the menu to choose from. I came here for a lunch meeting on a Wednesday and ordered the chicken enchilada with beans and some chips. Everything was delicious. I'm sure this place gets even more fun during happy hour and on weekends. Be aware that there are very few parking spots available but plenty of free and affordable street parking. Overall, good stuff!

Jbear F.

Yelp
Interesting space in an old gas station? space. Covered patios with banana trees all around. Limited parking. So what else is new. Friendly staff. Good food with vegan/vegetarian options. I had a vegan chorizo option with regular cheese or maybe vegan cheese because it was an interesting interpretation that was more of a solid mass in a small skillet (thought I had taken a pic). It tasted good with some crispy chips and flour tortillas. The chicken enchiladas were some of the best I've had. Will be back to try more of the menu.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant that I've been to so far in Raleigh! It's not my favorite Mexican restaurant I've ever been to, though. Here is why: 1) I loved the decorations! They had a lot of (plastic) cactuses and string lights. That's really fun! And cute! 2) The wait! I only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table on a Friday night, and that's pretty good. I love restaurants that still give out those buzzers to let you know when your table is ready. 3) the food! I liked the chips. They were really crunchy. But I wish they were free! I also loved the radishes in the guacamole, you can see them in my picture. I also liked my tacos a lot (the meat was really juicy and flavorful). I also got a potato taco and I enjoyed the flavors of the oregano in the taco. The empanadas were not my favorite empanadas, but I'm REALLY hard to please with empanadas. I'd like a crispier exterior.

Miriam L.

Yelp
Finally checked this place out and it was so good! Fast service and cozy inside. Shrimp tacos tasted yummy and very filling. Will definitely come again.

Keana L.

Yelp
Amazing service, very attentive. Excellent micheladas and breakfast burritos!! Will be coming back regularly!

Betsy A.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere and the service was good but the food was mediocre at best. My boyfriend had the green enchiladas--just ok, not a lot of flavor to them. I had the red chilaquiles which were not chilaquiles at all. It was basically Tortilla chips with red sauce and some pork thrown on top--again, not a lot of flavor. The black beans were obviously straight out of a can but the rice was ok. Margaritas were very good. Might go for drinks and the atmosphere but definitely not for the food.

Carter E.

Yelp
Used to be awesome, terrible now. The queso was just lightly melted globs of cheese,l and chorizo, chips were burnt, rice was tasteless, quesadilla was soggy. Pay extra for any condiments, and you have to get an entire tray. No kids menu.

Amanda C.

Yelp
Great spot downtown Raleigh for some quick Mexican food! It is a sit down restaurant and not fast casual which I expected from the name. Service was good, there aren't many tables in the place. They do make you pay for chips and salsa but they were very good and you got to choose from different types of salsa!

Stacy Y.

Yelp
We met a group of friends here on a Friday night and had a bit of a wait, but nothing terrible for a downtown Raleigh spot on the weekend. We sat outside in clear, closed tents which added a little whimsy to the evening. I wasn't terribly hungry, so I decided on the Red Pork Pozole soup. It was so flavorful, filled with tons of pork and hominy. It came with a condiment tray(happy camper!) with all sorts of goodies to spice it how you like it. I think I was the envy of the table when everyone's tacos came out. #Table winner!

Dakiyah C.

Yelp
Franklin was such a sweet server! 10/10 recommend. The alambras are actually the fajitas lol

Maria W.

Yelp
What I love about Gringo a Gogó is their customer service. They are always friendly and know their menu. I tried their special of the day, which was the Potato Taquitos and they accommodated and made the toppings vegan for me. Their tortillas are always fresh and that made the taquitos that more satisfying. The outdoor seating has a very latin feel, with many green plants outside. The staff always brings a bowl of fresh water for our furry baby.

Mary W.

Yelp
Cheese enchiladas were cold with just cold crumbled cheese inside. The green sauce was meh. Possibly the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten.

Eli B.

Yelp
I can see why people think it's a cute place but we felt that was literally it. The food was subpar, over salted and very uninspired. We don't know what has happened to this place over the years but it has truly deteriorated in quality. They seemed to use canned green sauce for enchiladas and ready whip for desserts, the tres leche tasted like a box white cake (at $9). This is a low quality Mexican spot posing as an authentic restaurant that has cute ambiance. They also work hard to upsell you which never makes you feel overly good. Much rather go to Centro- cool spot downtown , Gym tacos (yum tacos), or even The Standard down the block which has amazing tacos (even though it's not a Mexican restaurant).

Sahib G.

Yelp
We started off with a couple of cocktails, the Pomegranate and ht e to try it. We sat outside because of the ambiance. The outdoor patio under a tent with string lights was a really inviting area. We started off with a couple of cocktails, the pomegranate and the tamarind margaritas with really delicious and highly recommended. Also got the tequila old fashioned but wasn't a fan of the cola added to it. For food, we got Barbacoa tacos, Shrimp Tacos and Red Chicken Enchiladas. Everything tasted great. We finished our meal with a Mexican Flan which was one of the best i've had in a while. I will definitely go back here again.

Tien S.

Yelp
It's good! But they have this order minimum where I have to spend at least 10 dollars. I'm just trying to get 2 tacos, not 3! Cut some slack for students like us

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Decided to come here after spending the morning at the museums. The staff was friendly enough, the menu was a bit small compared to other places, but had the basics plus a few other things. They charged $5.50 for Chips with Salsa which I thought was very expensive. We sat out on the patio, it wasn't very busy. Decided to order 2 Asada tacos accompanied with salsa and the Red Pork Enchiladas with Rice and Black Beans. The food came promptly and was presented well. The salsa for the tacos was definitely not salsa, more like a hot sauce. The enchiladas were pretty good, nicely seasoned Carnitas. The food in my opinion was very overpriced for what you get. There also was nothing memorable about this place, it was just subpar.

Micah B.

Yelp
Gringo A Go Go is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is fantastic, the service is top-notch, and the variety of great vegan options is phenomenal. It's refreshing to find a place that caters so well to vegan preferences without compromising on taste. We can't recommend it enough!

Lauren S.

Yelp
Franklin was sweet and made sure to checkin with us while we dined. Great food good drinks and fun music! Would go again for the mango margs

N O.

Yelp
Went here for a special occasion and loved the patio, the decor, the staff, the music, the food, and the margarita. The prices are not particularly low but the vibe is perfect, and it's most vegan-friendly Mexican restaurant in Raleigh. This is definitely the spot for a festive, cool, but unpretentious outing or gathering.

Erin M.

Yelp
Really amazing vegan options and a lovely covered outdoor space here. My husband and I split three vegan tacos: one chicken, one carnitas, and one potato. All there were good, the carnitas was probably my favorite. We also split a vegan chicken quesadilla. The quesadillas seem to be a favorite here. It was really good, quite filling. The guacamole starter was yummy too. What I loved most was the beautifully decorated outdoor patio space. It was my first time eating at a restaurant since the pandemic and it made me feel fairly at ease and was just all around lovely. We had a friend with us from Mexico who said everything, from the atmosphere to the menu to the food, was very authentic.

Erin W.

Yelp
Gringo is one of my fave Mexican spots in Raleigh!! It's always so fresh and delicious Since the pandemic they've expanded their patio and added lots of pretty plants and tents for shade - such a pretty atmosphere They have amazing cocktails and you can tell they're not using any margarita mixes here! I like the seasonal fruit margarita- and you can always ask to make it spicy! They have vegan protein options ( but no vegan cheeses) so it's a good option for everyone in your party! I love the shrimp tacos, vegan chicken quesadillas and enchiladas Apps: I def starting with chips & salsa and guacamole! It's all so fresh and you can pick salsas based on your desire for spicy Parking: There's a few spots right beside the patio, otherwise your best bet is street parking nearby

BRIAN D.

Yelp
Awesome food and margaritas we will definitely be back . We tried this place on a food tour .

Kory R.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Carne Asada! Coming from a California guy, I've been to many many Mexican restaurants and this place is one of my top 3 favorite Mexican places to eat/drink at! You have to try the kiwi pineapple habanero Margarita also! Joey was my server and he is very cool! He helped me with finding something to do while visiting Raleigh! Service is 10/10 The place itself is very clean! Would rate 6 out of 5 stars!

Elease B.

Yelp
* BAM * That's how I felt when biting into my red chilaquiles and beans. SUPER. FANTASTIC. BEST EVER. Gringo a GoGo gets all of the superlatives _[^]_

Chase G.

Yelp
Food was Cold $ not authentic Mexican food and small portions. Drinks Good! Jose was great as a waiter. The atmosphere I give a 3.7 but overall a 3.2

Claire M.

Yelp
Food is phenomenal and giant American-sized portions. Margs were underwhelming in flavor, seamed like a lot of sugar mix and not a lot of tequila. Next time I'll go straight for cervezas or skip the alcohol altogether to get a nice deal for fresh, flavorful food. The outdoor vibe is relaxing and they have done a good job blocking the road and afternoon sun.

Stephen V.

Yelp
Whether you need takeout while working in downtown Raleigh, or want some cocktails and Mexican food with friends and family, I highly recommend this spot! Has SEVEN different vegan fillings to put in quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and even a torta!

John W.

Yelp
Did not knock my socks off. Got the asada and pastor street tacos. Meat was almost flavorless and the tortillas were a little soggy. Salsa gave me a hint of ketchup after taste! I'm not saying they make it from ketchup but there was literally no spiciness to it at all, and not much flavor. Honestly the blandest salsa I've had in a long time. The chips and guac were pretty good. Unfortunately the best part of the lunch was the iced tea! Pretty disappointed.

Gerardo C.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped to eat here during a road trip and were surprised to find some high quality Mexican food in Raleigh, NC. I ordered an Al pastor burrito and although this Al pastor was not made on a traditional trompo, it was still quite good. The service was good, no complaints there and the actual restaurant was decently clean. It had a very "hole in the wall" type of vibe. The only reason I would not call this a fully authentic Mexican restaurant is because the pastor was not cooked on a trompo. If you're looking for just a good Mexican place for a quick meal, this is a great option.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
I can't believe that I have never been here before. My friend and I sat inside since it was so hot outside and it was not packed at all (inside that is). It was a beer for me, a paloma for her and the chips and guac with a small side of pico to start. I chose the green chilaquiles for my entree which is served with rice and beans. The chips were a little thick and the guac was not that flavorful but the rest of the food was great and the service was friendly.

Gregory W.

Yelp
Got to try this place on our food tour and I am very glad we got to try it. Was more authentic mexican food and was great to get out here in North Carolina. The carinitas tacos were well flavored and not fatty at all. The pineapple fresca was refreshing and we enjoyed the green salsa. Our guide says that it is under new management under the last couple of years and the owner was very excited to interact with our group. After talking with him, I would love to try out the el pastor.

Kate W.

Yelp
Food was so good and atmosphere was great! The burrito was probably one of the best I have ever had! The margarita was delicious! There was quite a wait to I recommend going on the earlier side but you can order drinks from the bar to have while you wait so that's was nice! In regards to COVID they are using all disposable products and staff were very safe! Highly recommend!

Courtney W.

Yelp
Fish tacos amazing!! Great place awesome spot & staff was great. The cooks deserve lots of love!! So good.

Steven M.

Yelp
The best in the biz. Mango marg is killer and a large, unmatched vegan menu! The patio is also great.

Aldo S.

Yelp
You know the saying "anything tastes good when you're hungry" well today I found out that it was a lie. The sauce had no flavor followed by a immense amount of onions were added to the dish. The disappointment of my excitement being crushed by a flavorless overpriced dish. The tortillas they used were super soggy... Our waiter spoke to us only twice, once when taking the order and once more when handing the bill to us. Not once did he ask if the food was good or if we needed anything else ( the restaurant was not busy one bit). I would not recommend this place.

Joemy W.

Yelp
I don't like to write poor reviews, but our waitress made us feel so very rushed from the moment we walked in. We wanted to sit inside because it was a little chilly outside, but there were no tables. When I asked how long it might be, she acted put out, and said "at least 20 minutes" until we could get a table inside. So we sat outside. Two minutes later (literally), people were leaving and there were empty tables inside. Then, we order chips and salsa. Every Mexican place I've been to, the chips and salsa are free. Here, they're $5. Okay. After I said we'd have some chips, she asked what kind, then practically tapped her foot in impatience, rushing me. I think the choice was from mild to hot, so I ordered the most mild (wimp that I am). I don't know what "orange" and "red" meant, because she never explained... she was in such a hurry. When the salsa came, it looked like orange marmalade. It was horrible. I told her I just wanted normal salsa, not orange chunks of god knows what (and heaven forbid I *ask* her, because she didn't have time to answer). I told her I wanted normal red salsa, and 10 minutes later, she brought small tomato cubes, no sauce. Then she dashed off never asking if this was okay. They charge for more chips. No other Mexican place does. This place is WAAAAAAAAY too expensive... $10 for bland soup, and $14 for most lunch dishes. I asked to speak to the owner because we want to have an after party here, and she said he's busy, but she'll tell him to come by. He never did. I'm a big tipper, and I always tip over 20%, but this is the first time in over a year I tipped 10%. We will not be back.

Johnson B.

Yelp
Such a unique spot! Some of the Mexican food we've had since moving to Raleigh. A must try. Great service!

Beth W.

Yelp
My favorite place! Best service and the new owner is so nice! Tostada's and El Jefe are my favorites!

Zee S.

Yelp
I looooved the quesadilla I got from this place when I visited with a friend. We also ordered guacamole which was yummmmyyyy. The prices are very fair, wait staff is friendly & indoor/outdoor seating is great. I'm already looking forward to visiting this place again.

Jessica C.

Yelp
I'm a little bit torn on this review. I'd say 4 stars for the quality of the food and our service at the bar. We came on the craziest days for Mexican restaurants: Cinco de Mayo! We sat at the bar and the bartender, who was taking care of the whole bar on his own was totally killing it; he was taking care of business and very friendly to us also. I got a vegan chorizo taco, pollo taco, and al pastor taco. The chicken was over cooked and I don't think I would order it again. The vegan chorizo was fantastically delicious. I'm not vegan, but I try to cut down on red and fatty meat for health reasons. It was nice to have a meat substitute that tasted so delicious. Next time, I would just get all vegan chorizo and be happy as a clam. The house-made chips were fantastic, thicker chips with the perfect amount of salt. I loved the pico de gallo salsa, but the jalapeño salsa was just too thin for my liking. Fiancé ordered the alambre, which was soooo good! The melted cheese on top was a nice touch. The uncomfortable thing about our dining experience was the person we assume to be the owner. He was very short to the bartender and yelled at him about something he was doing, but it was in front of lots of people and seemed like something that should be done behind closed doors. We also heard him snap at one of the servers. I understand how stressful a restaurant can be on Cinco de Mayo, but it seemed to make a few people uncomfortable. We might come back, but not sure since there are so many wonderful Mexican choices around town.

Lauren K.

Yelp
So fresh and delicious one of my favorite authentic like Mexican restaurants. They also have gooood margaritas

Bruce G.

Yelp
I came to Gringo A Go-Go recently on a Saturday night to celebrate a few birthdays and getting vaccinated. The pandemic is nearing its final turn as a write this review and people are starting to get out more. They were doing really good business (a lot of takeout orders) when we arrived and we had to wait out 15 minutes to get a table outside in their covered patio area. (It's a good thing that the patio was covered because it started raining). We ordered queso/cheese dip but didn't realize it came with soft tortillas and not chips. It would be nice if they offered complimentary chips and salsa but they do not, unfortunately. I ordered the Asada burrito and it was good and filling. They didn't have a huge menu selection but offer the staples such as tacos, burritos, Quesdadilla etc. Service was as good as could be expected with the pandemic and how busy they were. They have a decent beer selection. I would probably give four stars if they had complimentary chips and salsa.

Mark D.

Yelp
It's just okay. It's overpriced for what you get. Steak burrito was fine, not much steak and small by comparison to other Mexican restaurants. No chips or anything and almost $15 all in for a to-go burrito. Luckily had some chips and salsa at home. It's a good place to drink margaritas outside with friends, but that's about the only reason I'd go back. It basically fits the same mold as most restaurants close to downtown now. Unfortunately it's becoming the norm...

Lydia A.

Yelp
Got the watermelon marg which was delicious! Shared chips and guac and guac was on the smaller portion but good. I got 3 tacos with rice and beans and they were filling but a bit dry
