GRK Fresh Greek Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"Grk is a counter-service Greek mini-chain, and we like to pretend it’s pronounced “gerk.” Try it. It’s fun. We also like to watch the big spinning columns of shawarma behind the counter. There are a few different kinds, including chicken, pork, and beef-and-lamb, and you can get this meat in a pita or on a platter with a couple of sides like fries and butter beans. It can get a little busy here at lunch, but the line moves quickly." - Bryan Kim

Google
This is a clean nice place to grab a decent gyro. The Gyro I had was decent and fresh. A Gyro will run you $10 and the plate that comes with two sides will run you around $14.00. The staff is friendly and the food was made quickly.

Google
I don’t know why these reviews are so low. I went to this restaurant and I completely enjoyed myself. I had a Greek salad with both chicken and gyro topped on it. Fresh ingredients, great customer service by a beautiful black woman named jewel. Will be back to grab a gyro sandwich next time im in town!

Google
I really like this restaurant chain. I had been to one in Chattanooga before and this one here is good as weel. Food is great and the staff well trained, very articulate and friendly. Clean organized interior. I got actually happy randomly finding it. I recommend a plate with Beef/Lamb, rice, salad and original Tzatziki. However, the restrooms are pretty bad. That needs to be fixed. But I like the place so much, that I do not take a star away.

Johanna is the best!!! She remembers everyone and is the soul of this place... you should see her working both registers with the brightest smile. Been coming here for years and now each I come into the city!!! Amazing people make any place Amazing!!! Food can be good in a lot of places, but the right person embracing your customers makes it an experience!!!!

Google
Food was absolutely amazing, and the root beer was some of the best I've ever had! Service was great, and the atmosphere really brought the whole thing together. Really loved the experience they gave me.

Google
Wow, I've never had such a bland tasting gyro before! And dry. Allowances were given because it's a chain, but the expectation was better than the reality. And for that price? Heinous. The fries were plentiful but also poorly seasoned(if at all). Lady at the front wishes you'd burn in hell or something by the way she looks at you.

Spent the day walking around DC and wanted something to eat that wasn’t fine dining. This place was average in every possible way. We ate there at least a hour before closing, And still felt like we were bothering staff by walking into there restaurant to spend money. I get you want to clean up and go home. But this food doesn’t take long to prepare or eat.

Google
I really enjoyed the frozen Greek yogurt on a hot day. Additionally, the employees were hard at work processing a large order and were very good at communicating this to all incoming customers. Afterwards, we were taken care of well even though they were working non-stop for 15 minutes so kudos to that. We would revisit again.

Walter B.

Yelp
Had lunch: Gyro and fries. They were fresh, hot an delicious! Definitely coming again when I come back to DC.

Yelp
The review is for the Frozen Yogurt. I passed by this place several times and got suckered in with the board outside with a picture of a FroYo. Service was excellent. Our cashier was super bubbly and personable. I liked the FroYo but the texture was a bit too icy for my taste. I like a more creamy, mouthfeel yogurt. It wasn't too sweet (if you are Asian, you know what I mean). Tables were clean and the space was bright. The line started forming as soon as 12 noon hit so my suggestion is to avoid busy meal times.

Yelp
This was the worst Greek food I've ever had. I've never had chicken from a Greek place look like this. The friends were not crispy or well cooked. They were soggy and poor packaged for delivery. The Brussels taste nothing like honey glazed. They had a weird taste honestly. Also, I can't believe they served the sauce in the same container and not on the side. I did not expect that my tzatziki would be served on my Brussels sprouts. I also thought there would be significantly more food. Again packing was so incredibly disappointing. It was a smash up of foods. Order through Uber Eats and the delivery time was accurate. The delivery time and the pita were the only positives of the experience. I would never order from here again.

Yelp
Tourist trap with overpriced subpar food and stand-offish service. With international locations in Dubai, I was really rooting for this place and sadly disappointed. I paid $20 for a lackluster meal - falafel pita sandwich, fries, and mini spinach pie. My meal was sloppily thrown together. The menu is complex and quite confusing. Some of the menu items aren't offered like Halloumi cheese, which I had been looking forward to. The falafel pita wrap with tahini, tomato and onion was underwhelming. It was missing some core ingredients like cucumbers, hummus, pickled onion, etc. It was very bland and unmemorable. The Mini Spinach Pie wasn't the miniature version of the Spanakopita that I was hoping for. It was a fried triangle pastry stuffed with cheese and spinach. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. The crispy seasoned fries were the best part of the meal! The fries tasted like Arby's. It would have been nice to pay a $2-$3 upcharge for a small portion of a side of fries with any entree, like the side of fries that you can pick with the platter. As I wanted to try the fries and got the pita wrap, I was stuck committing to the full side and received a large brown bag of fries, which I wasn't anticipating and only got through 1/2. There's an upcharge for everything including a side of garlic tahini sauce, $1.50. It wasn't even good! While the Orzo bowl and Lentil Salad look tempting, I won't be coming back!

Yelp
Coming from the metro Detroit area with its large Greek population and a Coney Island on every other corner, it is difficult to be in DC and find a decent gyro. GRK Fresh Greek is a mediocre downtown offering. The lamb (pictured) has been hacked to bits unlike the fine and sumptuous sheets of shaved meat I would prefer. Honestly, it kind of reminded me of my cat's wet food. The meat tasted okay, but the toppings were paltry and the pita itself was mediocre. As an added annoyance, this is yet another "build your own" whatever place. Can we please stop this. Sometimes you simply want to order something that's been tried and true as quality and not go through this rigmarole until you find a decent combo.

Yelp
Food - Greek food of course! Consisting of Gyro(Pita), plate, pita pies, tzatziki sauce, Greek salad and a few more things! I have been craving Greek Gyro with pork, not lamb and beef as here in the US. And they have it!!!! It was as close to Greek pork Gyro as I have gotten here in the US so far. And then I also had the Chicken Aggolemono or Lemon Chicken soup. Gosh, it was delish. The counter person didn't sound enthusiastic about it, but i thoroughly enjoyed it!! Service - just order at the counter and get called. Nothing more. Ambiance - fast food joint with a long table and a few others. This place will probably accommodate at least 30 people. There is a table or two outside as well. Verdict - underrated place and a must try! I enjoyed it like mad!! It's got that fast food type vibe, but it's good enough in my book!! You gotta try the pork Gyro!

Yelp
You have Taco Bell for Mexican fast food... then there is GRK FRESH for Greek fast food. It was just meh. I walked in and could hardly read the menu. The chicken was pretty big to eat in the pita. The spanakopita had a strong flavor profile that was not too good. Heavy on the dill maybe or garlic. But, it was not too good. It was huge almost like a pizza slice. Pricing is high. A side was $5.11, ouch. Staff was friendly, and worked hard to push out our orders.
google avatar

Candice H.

Yelp
Flavor and spice level were good. The meat was just barely passable. 2.5 The cashier was polite and friendly Ambiance - it was pretty empty. It was like chipotle, I guess.
google avatar

Yelp
Their food is always FRESH, so even though they are in a highly tourist area, it's def worth while for a local to go. Also randomly they have the best Chicken soup there. It's called CHICKEN AVGOLEMONO, it's a creamy lemon broth, with chicken and orzo. Perfect for the fall.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting GRK fresh Greek. You order in steps: 1. Choose a wrap or plate 2. protein beef & lamb, chicken , or pork 3. Tzatziki Sauce choice original, spicy kaftaro, and GRK 4. 2 sides: yogurt lemon garlic tossed salad, tomato herbed bakedbutter beans, honey roasted Brussel sprouts, turmeric and herb brown rice, Aegean slaw, or GRK fries . I tried the Yeeros chicken plate plus kaftero tzatziki sauce with sides of tomato herb baked butter beans and yogurt lemon garlic tossed salad. My dish was served with a bag of pita bread quartered. Everything was delicious and filling. Grk soft drink offerings are Stubborn sodas. I chose black cherry with tarragon and lemon berry açaí. My favorite was the black cherry with tarragon. My server was very patient and helpful with thorough explanation of the process and offerings. A bit pricy at just under $18 with tax, but the quality is a step up from a burger and fries anywhere. I look forward to trying other items on a return visit.

Yelp
I always stop by for a fro yo whenever I'm in the area. it taste super fresh and not too sweet - I get mine with granola and honey. I've never had anything else so can't speak to other menu items.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I was passing by and decided to stop here for a quick bite. The food was very freshly made and came out quickly. It was a bright and modern looking place and I could tell the employees work hard to keep it clean. I was very impressed by how simple yet delicious the food was. My only concern that everything was a bit overpriced. As an example, a side order of fries came to about $6. The fries were great but the pricing just didn't make sense.

Yelp
I was in DC for a couple of days and I am the type to not really make plans for food until I walk around the area and find new places to try. While sightseeing, I found this Greek fast casual eatery and saw the menu from outside. This place had lentil soup! I had to try it since where I am from, lentil soup is not always available except at a sit down restaurant and usually it's for one night. I ordered the soup from the less than enthusiastic cashier. They also gave me a side of pita bread to go with the soup. The portion of the soup bowl was filling and it was very good. There is seating inside and it was not too busy when I stopped by. This place is not far from Ford's theater so you eat and walk over to the landmark. I wish we had a GRK Fresh where I live but it is always fun to try new places. I will stop by again, if I visit DC again.

Jordan P.

Yelp
I tried their Mediterranean bowl. The portions were generous. The cucumbers were fresh. My biggest complaint is that the chicken was extremely dry. It was dry to the point of being difficult to chew. Service was fast and friendly. The place was clean. They have seating, but it's more of a take out place I think.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
I came here for a workday lunch and ordered a plate with chicken as protein with 2 sides - of slaw and brown rice. I chose the "Grk" sauce - Cucumber, mint, lemon zest and scallion. Unfortunately, I found a hair in the slaw, ick. I was also disappointed that most of the plate had no flavor. The chicken was cooked overall well, and were sliced thinly, but no flavor, very bland. The slaw too - it added texture to the dish but also did not have a distinct flavor or add anything to the rice and flavorless chicken. You get pita in 4 pieces (quarter pieces). They were quite flat and not a fluffy pita, and also were stale. This place can do better!
google avatar

Yelp
The ambience of this establishment was clean sleek And efficient bathrooms or filthy underneath the hand dryers looked as if somebody cleaned off their work boots after a long day of riding horses it was almost confusing as to how somebody could wash their hands and still blow actual mud on the walls under the hand dryers. But that's a different topic. I use toilet paper to dry my hands. The food was absolutely fantastic once they got it right. If you order a chicken souvlaki pita you will get chicken, onion, and tomato. There will be no feta. There will be no lettuce it's not included. I did, however bring back my tomato because she gave me the stem and the butt end of the tomato. She did give me a new one and she added feta and lettuce for me upon request, my kids meals were great. I did not have the Taziki sauce, but my husband said it was very tasty. We were in DC because my children have started a soap company called branded up soap. Please follow them on Instagram. Also, please follow design second spirit on Instagram or I up cycle and recycle authentic designer handbags to create one of a kind wearable art pieces this restaurant is close in proximity to Ford's theater, which was an amazingexperience and it's free

lana h.

Yelp
Food was awful. Chicken souvlaki didnt look or taste like real meat, brussels sprouts were mushy and brown, the mini spinach pies had hardly any filling and even though I was the only person in line, when I paused to understand how their menu worked, the cashier kept sighing in frustration. Maybe she was having a rough day but she was super rude. I've been to a GRK in Jersey and it was delicious but I guess they're not all the same.

Yelp
I have been to GRK FRESH multiple time since I started my new position in DC. The food is always quickly prepared and tastes fresh. The only downside is that sometimes the chicken is a little dry. If you are looking for a new spot to try in the Penn quarter area, I suggest checking out GRK FRESH and asking for a little bit extra tzatziki.
google avatar

Illiana V.

Yelp
We ordered the pita wrap with lamb and kaftero TZATZIKI. Everything was delicious and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was clean and the prices decent for the area. The service was great, they were so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.

Joie M.

Yelp
Completely underwhelmed by the food. I ordered a pita sandwich and it barely had anything in it and no flavor. It was just blah. I feel like this place needs to redo their menu and get professional help with it. Fast food ambiance.
google avatar

Linda O.

Yelp
This spot makes a nice avgolemono (chicken/lemon/orzo soup)--a big surprise to me. Don't be deceived by its plain appearance. The eggs are tempered into the soup deftly. This cooking maneuver is a challenge to execute properly. The Greek fries are served hot and spiced lightly. The baklava is right in there; moist (not soggy), appropriate balance of ingredients. Don't find the spanikopita to my liking however. This location (it's a chain) is clean and fairly spacious. Staff is somewhat reserved, but serious about the food they prepare; service is reliable.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants during our DC trip. We stopped here right after the Ford Theater tour (which was awesome). The food here is really good. I had a beef and lamb wrap with spicy kaftero sauce and fries. It was really good. They also have house made sodas, which are really tasty. The service was great. Our cashier was so friendly and brought our food out to us. If you get fries with the wrap it's about $15 fir lunch, which is a little pricey when you add a drink. But it's worth it. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This place is so close to my office. I tried it once when they first opened. I was so disappointed. Haven't been back again since except I decided to try them again today. Well, this just confirms that I won't be going back. The food is way over priced. This bowl I got is $9.99 and I added meat for another $4.55. The meat is dry like jerky! I've had good Greek food, this isn't it! Please don't waste you time and money eating at this place.
google avatar

Aileen M.

Yelp
Wow...this is just terrible. The service was fast and easy. However, the food was not good at all. Definitely not worth the $13(tax included). The rice literally tastes like rubber. I have never in my life tasted rice with this texture. I don't know if it was over cooked or what. The slaw was just blah lol that's they only way I can describe it. I love falafel but this is the worst I've had by far! The falafel was so hard and barely any flavor. The only thing decent on my plate was the pita bread. Maybe I should have ordered something else but for what they're charging I'd rather go to Roti or Cava.
google avatar

Yelp
At approx 2:30, two co-workers and I placed our orders and waited for them to be delivered. The cashier seemed slightly impatient cashier, however we pressed on. Food arrives and we take it to the table. I realize I am missing my lettuce, tomatoes and red onions that I requested. I walk back to the cashier and let her know. The cashiers response was, "it's inside you need to look in there." I simply opened my pita in front of her to show there was none added. She looked, took me tray and walked to the back. Spoke in Spanish the the food prep and they laughed as he added the extra. She returned and slide the tray across the counter to me and said..."Is that better?" And it wasn't said in a way where she was expecting a reply. I simply took my tray and sat down. The food at this location was good, the service fast and the restaurant was clean and well lit. However, due to the lack of customer service I cannot rate them above a 3 Star. If you like French fries, order some here

Yelp
The food is just okay. Went here for lunch and had the lamb gyro platter. Everything had a decent flavor but was just okay over all.

K F.

Yelp
Food is fair at best, and service was quick but unfriendly. The honey brussels were definitely frozen before cooking. The chicken and pita wrap were dry.

Marco T.

Yelp
This shit bussin Absolutely awesome great service and really good food 10/10 would recommend:D
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Fairly new Greek establishment that definitely will become a part of my lunch rotation. I got a chicken platter with original Greek sauce. Omg. Yum... I could lick the plate of the original Greek sauce. The chicken was very tasty and juicy. I can't wait to go back for lunch again. Service was super quick. So quick I thought I got someone else's order by mistake and had to double check. The place is spic and span clean too!
google avatar

Amelia D.

Yelp
I had never walked by Grk before, but my sister and I had just left the Smithsonian and were in desperate need of a pick-me-up. We wandered in and ended up getting the Spanakopitas - they were delicious! They came out hot, the filling (spinach, feta, grape leaves) was delicious and well-balanced, and the phyllo pastry was very flaky. They were also surprisingly large for the fact that they cost less than $7 each and we left feeling very sated. The rest of the food looked very fresh and tasty as well if you were in the mood for something with meat or a larger serving.

Yelp
Looking for a quick bite before a Yelp gelato event, my husband and I stopped at GRK Fresh since he had a good experience here for lunch one day and it was also close to Metro Center for easy access to hop on the red line for the event. We walked in around 5:30pm on a Monday and it was packed (if I had to guess, all tourists by the attire and the name tags) with only a couple of tables open. We walked right up to the register to order and our food was ready in about 5 minutes of ordering. I am happy we came when we did because by the time we left around 6pm there was a long line and no open tables! Service was friendly and my husband appreciated her asking if onions and tomatoes were ok on his pita (they were not BTW). We both ordered the same thing: lamb and beef on a pita with kaftero sauce. The lamb and beef were overflowing from the pita and were very tender. Normally I expect shaved meat, and these were more like tiny pieces but the quality was still good, and I loved the seasoning used as well. The Kaftero sauce had a nice spicy kick to it, although much of it was in the bottom part of the pita and not distributed evenly. Despite being neatly wrapped, I'd still recommend extra napkins as this meal can get deliciously messy! The pita left each of us satisfied and not overly stuffed so we could enjoy Pitango Gelato at the event afterwards. I would definitely return here in the future if I were looking for a quick, quality bite to eat!

Yelp
Being from the West Coast, I was missing Daphne's, which is a fairly fast Greek food place. GRK Fresh is the answer to my prayers. This place is conveniently located next to Sephora, so of course that's an added bonus :) I got two plates - one with chicken, original sauce, and seasoned fries, while my s/o ended up getting pretty much the same thing, but with lamb and pork. I honestly prefer the lamb and pork. I also had some weird aluminum piece in my food which was a little annoying, but people make mistakes. I also ended up getting the frozen greek yogurt- that was yummy! I kind of wish the prices were a tad lower, because I came out almost spending $30 on 2 plates and a small frozen yogurt, but I'll probably be coming back after my Sephora shopping :)
google avatar

Lia M.

Yelp
I really enjoy GRK Fresh. It's a tasty fast-casual spot. I usually order the pork gyro platter with pita, fries, and either salad or Aegean slaw. Everything is fresh and good. I love the frozen Greek yogurt, even though I don't like yogurt. They have good toppings too. I'm hoping to try the falafel soon.

Patti S.

Yelp
Wanted a quick bite after Fords Theatre . Great service and yummy food. The spanakopita was a very generous portion that was a good split size as we both had soup as well.
google avatar

Sharece B.

Yelp
GRK Fresh is my favorite and only fast food place I will visit when in DC. The food is scrumptious and really hits the spot. I especially like this place I'm the cold months of winter when you want the style of food truck awesomeness, but want to sit inside while you stuff your gut. You can get pitas or combo plates here. I would highly recommend stopping by if you need to grab food before watching a show at Ford's Theater or if you're just in the area and don't want to be stuck in ridiculous wait lines.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Fine place to grab a quick bite, but keep your expectations low. The gyros are fine, the meat isn't the best, the flavored tzazikis are probably the highlight here. The meals are pretty small. Everyone we went with was hungry after the meal, except for me but I also ordered a gyro and a platter. But I shouldn't have to order two meals and spend $20 to be full. The platter comes with a tiny side of fries, meat, pita, tzaziki and some lettuce/veggies and is just over $10. The gyros are around $9 but don't come with a side. They do have a special currently for a house pork gyro for $6.

Yelp
3 stars for a decent Greek spot. My wife and I decided to stop by GRK Fresh, located across the street from the Ford Theater, for a bit to eat on a Sunday afternoon. The venue is very open and clean with a combination of tables with seats and hightops with stools. The kitchen is open concept so that you can see the lamb rotating, and the menu is listed up on a large LED board behind the register. We went up to the counter and put in an order for some Greek yogurt, a piece of spanakopita, a gyro plate, honey brussel sprouts, and Greek fries. The cashier didn't seem terribly interested in talking to us (makes sense due to the location in a touristy area), but he did give us a good heap of toppings on our Greek yogurt. The reason this spot is getting a 3 star is the food. My wife and I eat a lot of Greek food after visiting Greece this past summer. While everything we had here was fine, nothing (aside from the yogurt) was as fresh as you get from most Greek spots. The gyro was just ok, my wife didn't care for the honey brussel sprouts (although I thought they were fun), the Greek fries were just fries with some seasoning, and the spanakopita tasted like it was made the day before. Nothing was bad, but it just struck us more as basic tourist food than anything worth seeking out versus other Greek restaurants in the city. Overall, GRK Fresh is a fine downtown Greek spot if you are in a pinch or visiting from out of town.

Yelp
Had chicken skewers (grillers) - chicken was super tender and flavorful. Got original tzatziki which is yogurt based sauce with garlic, dill & olive oil. It also comes with a pita bread & a side. I had seasoned fries that was well seasoned and co-worker had giant beans. Giant beans is very common in Greek cooking. In addition to indoor seating, the place has about 4 tables outside as well. Enjoy!
google avatar

Jana S.

Yelp
I chose this place near the end of a very long, tiring day sightseeing at all the classic tourist spots. This spot is a short walk from the National Portrait Gallery and several hotels in downtown, making it very convenient for tourists. The space is clean and bright, and service is friendly and relatively quick. There's a wide variety of options and all are quite healthy! I definitely recommend this to other tourists looking for a casual spot for nutritious, tasty Greek food to recharge after sightseeing.

Yelp
I had my first GRK FRESH experience last week, and I can definitely say that I'm a fan! The place is clean, the girl and the manager that I interacted with behind the register were both super duper nice, and my food tasted good. I just got a Greek Salad and a side of seasoned fries, but both were very tasty. The greek salad doesn't come with any lettuce, just FYI, but had tons of flavor. And the seasoned fries were piping hot and really delicious. I love that they have different kinds of tzatziki here (I got an extra side of tzatziki to dip my fries in). I went with the original (garlicky goodness!) but I'm excited to come back and try the spicy one at another time. This location isn't too far from the Yelp DC office, so I'm sure I'll be back again before long!
google avatar

Kimi S.

Yelp
It was 2 pm and I was feeling HANGRY, thank goodness for GRK as they saved many people from incurring my wrath that afternoon. I've always been a fan of their original location in Farragut and this spot is no different. With a menu featuring freshly baked pitas, locally grown produce, grilled grass fed meat, and Tzatziki-palooza of flavors every meal feels healthy-ish. Focus on the ish part. Their french fries are SO good! They come in a paper bag, freshly cooked and extra crispy. They are basically Five Guys fries and I am HERE FOR IT. Friendly service and on hot days they have a Greek Yogurt Bar that is also wonderful.
google avatar

Jordan L.

Yelp
Avoid at all cost. Service horrendous. Food horrendous. No one there actually wants to take your order. When you walk in they will roll their eyes and sigh outloud that you are there and they have to speak to someone. The salad was soggy, the meat dry and cold, and nothing was "fresh" as the name describes. DO NOT GO.
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
Mediterranean bowl was nothing special for the price--it was missing some sauce and a side of pita, both of which would be extra. Roti or Cava are far better options for this style of Mediterranean food in D.C.
google avatar

Alissa I.

Yelp
Their soft serve yogurt is phenomenal. Get the baklava on top! Also they have really good feta and they'll put it on your gyro if you ask!

Max D.

Yelp
This I assume would be chicken from the very oily Greek salad that I ordered 10/15/22!!!...Chicken was bland tasted old and was gross!!! I felt something weird in my mouth while trying to chew this mystery meat something felt weird in my mouth, so when I spit it out this is what I was chewing sandwich wrapping paper probably from that reused chicken!!! ! Never again. The salad was very oily also!!! I want my money back $16.27 wasted!!!

Yelp
The Gyro was pretty tasty. The ice cream was a bit too yogurt tasting for me. Not a bad experience.

Donyiel C.

Yelp
So I really wanted to like this place. Since they opened I've been seeing folks walking around with the light blue carryout bags during lunch time. I finally decided to give them a try and I must say that I was pretty disappointed. The place is very clean and the service was great, but unfortunately for me, this meal did not satisfy my taste buds. It didn't have much flavor. I ordered a to go plate with chicken and kaftero (their "spicy" sauce but it was mild for me). To be honest, for $12, there are better options. I might come back to try their greek yogurt but that's it.

Yelp
While in DC, we were hoping to find a great gyro. This sadly wasn't it. The tzatziki sauce tasted low fat and also did not come with your order. It was over $1 per small serving. The meat wasn't terrible, but it was far from the best I've had. Definitely wouldn't go back.
