"At the Groeninge Museum, you can admire paintings by early Flemish artists such as Jan Van Eyck and Hans Memling, along with Neoclassical works and 20th-century modern art by René Magritte and Roger Raveel." - The MICHELIN Guide
A museum of the history of Flamish art starting with the primitive artist until today. A must see in Bruges if only for the Jan van Eyck masterpiece! Very well organized, flows chronological from room to room, with good description for the period and the highlilighted pieces.

Loved our visit to the museum! Lots of Flemish paintings in the collection, and a section at the end about the Book of Hours. To follow along the rooms I recommend scanning the QR code before you enter the museum which provides a digital tour of each room in your preferred language. You can click on each painting in each room and it’ll give you a comprehensive explanation of the painting or the artist. We spent around 1.5 hours here doing the self guided tour.

I had the best time visiting the Groeninge Museum today. Epic masterpieces and so many of the fun creepy depictions of demons from the renaissance art that keep you guessing.
The audio guide was helpful and they have a great gift shop with postcards and trinkets from the collection.
Would recommend if visiting Bruges!

Very nice art museum with an interesting exhibit about medieval books. Lacked a bit of variety because you can only see so many paintings of Jesus on the cross before it gets boring. The highlight for me the Boschs tryptic. Stunning. Overall for the price it was pretty good.

A very nice museum of fine arts. Sufficient explanation to help a layman like me to get around. Didn’t have time to finish as I was too hungry. Will definitely visit again to finish it.

Great little treasure of Flemish art; from the Flemish primitives to the expressionists. Entrance is hard to find, but the museum will reward you with some coolness on a hot summer day like today. I walked through in 45min without audio guide. The guide is included -on your phone- with the 15 euro entrance fee.

Many really good Flemish religious paintings. Also through to recent times with landscapes and portraits. I loved the portrait of van Eyck's wife.
A wonderful exhibit on religious observance and several copies of beautifully illustrated and gilded Prayer Books.

Beautiful view on the history of local fine art.
Works of the best-known artists (such as Hieronymus Bosh, van Eyeck, etc.) offer understanding of values and views of the given period up to contemporary era. Definately worth visiting.

Yelp
A well laid out and inviting museum that allows you to get up close to some of the best artowrks by the Flemish masters. Van Eyck and Bosch are represented, as well as a smattering of post-modern artists from the 20th century. I enjoyed how each room represented a particular artistic movement chronologically.
A nice way to spend 90 minutes or so.

Yelp
Flemish art overload. Allow 1-3/4 hours. Each room had multi-lingual explanatory cards (a great idea).

Yelp
Covid Fascists. Do not go here if you are not from the EU. They would not let me (American) in because they only accept vaccination cards from the EU.
I presented them with my physical proof of vaccination card--they said no because it did not have a QR code on it. So I downloaded the official vaccination verification QR code app for NY state/CDC and presented them with my QR code. They told me that American QR codes do not scan.
They would not let me in to see the art. Only after I went through the process of getting my vaccination QR code set up the lady working the desk told me that only EU QR codes scan.
I understand trying to be safe with the pandemic but this was ridiculous. I had so much proof that I was vaccinated. They must certainly be selling data from the QR codes because there is no explanation why they did not accept my verified proof of vaccination.
I came to see the art (which should be accessible to everyone) and I was excluded from entering.

Yelp
Really impressive collection of Flemish art. This museum really shows off how great pre-Italian Renaissance art can be. Van Eyck, Gerard David, Bosch, and Van der Weyden have masterpieces here that shouldn't be missed if you're in Brugge.

Yelp
They sold us tickets 15 minutes before the museum was closing for the day, without warning us. After 5 min of enjoying the art, there was a general announcement that museum is closing in 10 min and we were forced to leave. They refused to refund the tickets.

Yelp
Most tourists will be drawn here by the Flemish Primitives, which are indeed stunning. In particular, Hieronymus Bosch's "Last Judgement" and the two-part "Judgment of Cambyses" will put you in the terrifying 15-century mindset faster than any history book.
The more modern sections are not as strong but still interesting. The museum itself is attractive and easily accessible.

Yelp
Contains a prolific collection of Flemish primitives (pre-renaissance paintings) as well as a more recent works by Belgians. The collection is lengthy and interesting. Apart from the classics there is a well-made collection for works that have been otherwise unappreciated either due to their large size or the painter's lack of fame. This exhibit showcasing infamous works weaves the city within silver waters and breaks for glimpses of Bruges relevant paintings.
This museum is the glory of Bruges, showcasing the talent of local painters throughout the ages.

Yelp
Excellent intro to Flemish primitivism. A pleasant spot to escape the tourist hustle and bustle that is Bruges. Friendly staff and great exhibits.
