Groomers... My Go To Seafood Spot ~
Last weekend, I headed to Groomers to grab some seafood for the 4th of July weekend. I called on Wednesday and Thursday to see if they had blue crabs and was told I needed to show up early on Friday.
On Friday, I woke up early and called Groomers at 0900 and was informed they did have the crabs. I hustled on down to Groomers and over the 30 minute ride imagined dumping them into the pot and sucking on the claws. Upon arrival, my nerves piqued when I saw people walking out looking disappointed, they had no items in hand and I had a long line to stand in. Unfortunately, I overheard the Groomers Rep tell the customer ahead of me that they had run out of crabs. I was pissed, I just drove across town and it wasn't even 0948. How could they be out of crabs. A few of us in line were considering mutiny, when John walked up. He apologized to us profusely and said a line had gathered at 0600. I was angry, I wanted my crabs and waited all week to add them to my belly! Now ... I had no crabs and crustaceans to tango with.
John came up to me, he said we do have more seafood as he saw me looking at their deviled crabs on display. I wanted some seafood so I settled on some East Coast oysters, snow crab legs, a lobster tail, some frozen blue crabs and some blue crab shells. As a Charlestonian, (SC) I enjoy all types of seafood. I decided to continue my solo seafood feast with the crab shells to create Deviled Crab, a Low Country delicacy. John walked me to the front for purchase and talked to me, I could see he wanted to please me as a customer. When he sold me the crab shells I knew I could make my deviled crabs and just purchase the crab meat to stuff them with.
He waited with me and because I now could create my Grannies Deviled Crab recipe, I showered him with many hugs. He smiled and as they brought out my order I recognized the pretty blue eyes of Eddie behind his mask, my Groomer's Rep from years ago. He remembered me and thanked me for my Yelp review. My order was incorrect when it came out as they had placed King Crab legs in the place of my Snow Crab legs. I stepped aside and Eddie went back to retrieve my correct order.
John told me that in the future, I could order my crabs and pay online. I thanked him, but was not happy that I wasn't provided those nuggets of info on Wednesday and Thursday when I called, knocking this review down to a 4 Star power.
John received one more hug and I paid for my order. Normally, I am all over my receipts and didn't realize that my purchase was $75. Perhaps it was Eddie's blue eyes that distracted me, but 1 lobster tail, 1 lb of snow crab legs, 1 lb of frozen blue crabs, and 1 dozen east coast oysters should not have come up to $75! Eddie walked my goods to the car and went on my merry way.
I didn't notice the mistake until Sunday and Groomers was closed. The cashier had not taken the King Crab off of my receipt which was a hefty $27. Immediately on Monday I went to Groomers to fix the mistake. I called earlier to let them know of the mistake and was informed to text them the receipt and my CC info... not going to do that, but I did go in and see John.
I said do you remember me and he said Of Course!! I said I was charged for those King Crab legs. He looked over the receipt and said No that was a mistake! Within minutes, I had a refund from my new friend. He asked me if I needed anything else and I said not today !
Thanks John and Eddie again for an Amazing experience, while there was some frustration, my Grannies' Devil Crab recipe was amazing and I couldn't have done it without your crab shells. Pics Posted Highly Recommended. Hope you enjoyed your 4th.
