Where to Drink Really Good Coffee in Miami

"Coffee fans have likely tasted Per’la Specialty Roasters at a favorite restaurant. Head to its Coral Gables space for a large assortment of coffee concoctions like pour-overs, cortados, and macchiatos, along with treats like churro muffins, Oreo chunk cookies, and pumpkin whoopie pies." - Alona Martinez

House of Per’La Review - Coral Gables - Miami - The Infatuation

"If the quality of coffee is very important to you, then you can count on House of Per’la in Coral Gables to deliver an excellent cup. This little coffee shop is not spacious, but there are a few tables and a handful of solo seats along a counter that are great for catching up on emails." - Ryan Pfeffer

House of Per’La Proves It Is Anything But a Regular Coffeehouse - Eater Miami

"House of Per’La opened in October of 2018 in the former Cafe Curuba space just a few blocks south of Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. A partnership between Per’La Specialty Roasters’ owners Paul Massard and Chris Nolte and Eating House owner and chef Giorgio Rapicavoli, it’s just about as local as it can get. With a variety of different types of roasts, House of Per’La likes to think of themselves as a coffee shop that’s helping coffee drinkers find the exact cup of joe they are looking for — offering an easy way to help bridge the gap and find a roast fit for every palette. The coffee menu at House of Per’La features eight different roasts of coffee consisting of two types of espresso, three types of rotating brewed coffee, a house brew drip coffee, and the popular cold brew. As far as the food is concerned, the cafe features a mix of soup and salads, sandwiches, and bakery items — with a few nods in memory of Cafe Curuba like the guava pan de bono. It’s bigger than the average coffee shop, but not quite a full cafe menu." - Amber Love Bond

Google
The food and drinks were good. Im only giving it a 4 star because of their service fee they dont tell you about and then asking for a tip on top of it. The guy that ordered after me also complained about this to the cashier. The avocado toast i believe was $13 and it was the smallest avocado toast ive ever got. My drink was made wrong the first time and the guy working was pretty rude about remaking it. Even though they were the ones that made it wrong. In all i paid around $35 just for 1 person.

Google
A really nice and professional cafe. The flat white I got was presented very grandly and tasted absolutely amazing. The other drinks and food I saw looked health conscious and great. Seems to be a hot spot for professionals and I felt very comfortable working here for the day.

Google
We came for a quick breakfast in a small coffee shop, the tiny breads with cheese were great so we had to order again and the cold brew was ok. I would highlight the good attention and the local community / pet friendly / clean and minimalis environment. I would come again just to relax or read

Google
Calm atmosphere. Friendly service. Great food. We added salmon to the avocado toast, so a $6 charge was added. We'll worth it.

Google
Great Espresso drinks, love the Iced Americanos. Cool affogato bar and decent prices for being in the middle of Coral Gables. Check it out if you need some coffee!

Google
Super cute. Costs less than Starbucks but feels up to par. Cafe set up is definitely so much more aesthetic than Starbucks, music taste is great, cleanliness awesome, and server has awesome hair.

Google
Best coffee in coral gables! For a while they had bad baristas who did not make good coffee last year and I switched over to grumpy cafe which is a block down, but for the past couple of months this place has been outstanding and I now come here almost daily. I highly recommend, especially if you're looking for good quality specialty coffee.

Google
This store is currently under renovation. I arrived around 10 AM on Tuesday morning. Google Maps showed that it was open, but it was not operating at all. You should update your business hours on Google to avoid wasting customers’ time.

Yelp
I recently visited Grou and was shocked to see that one of the employees had a visible neck tattoo that read "F*** Off" . While I respect personal expression, this kind of tattoo feels extremely inappropriate in a professional setting and could make customers uncomfortable. It's disappointing, as I've come to expect a higher standard of professionalism from Grou.

Yelp
GROU coffee is a great place to order a yummy drink and get some work done! The space is relaxing and offers plenty of seating options.

Yelp
Coffee is amazing, ambiance is too! Very cozy feeling & great vibes. They brought the coffee to my table &I didn't feel like I was intruding. Best coffee shop so far in coral gables. I worked here for a day and it was perfect.

Yelp
First time I stopped by was a Sunday and there was a sign on the door stating this location is not open on Sundays currently. I didn't see that reflected online so I made a trip over there and didn't get to try it out. I did come back though another day and got a vanilla latte which was very good. It was a nice and sunny space with a big window so I enjoyed sitting there and would be a good place to do some work.

Yelp
Was looking for a good coffee spot while visiting Coral Gables and came across this place. The coffee is SO good- they use fresh, quality beans and you can tell. We got the protein pancakes which are GF, DF, SF and so delicious! We also got the italianissimo panini and highly recommend. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, and the shop is upbeat, clean, and fun! We are definitely going to come back to try the affogato bar!

Yelp
Coffee was delicious, the service was kind and considerate, worked on work stuff in a quiet peaceful location. will come back!

Yelp
So happy to report that Grou has a second location in the heart of coral gables! Their first location opened a few years ago in Merrick park and what stood out for me was their warm welcome and love for dogs! It's been my favorite co-working spot to date. Now I can choose to go to the downtown location as well. My pup Gizmo loves it too because they welcome him with a free pup cup and milk bone treat. Today is their grand opening too. Our weekday mornings are just so much better when we go to Grou! Parking is on the street - PayByPhone. Note: this location is behind Anthony Coal Fired Pizza and not directly on Ponce de Leon. Thank you Grou staff and owners for a great grand opening experience! See you soon!

Yelp
The service was great the cashier was super nice. The food was good but a bit pricey for the portion. Small place but very clean and good atmosphere.

Yelp
I love this coffee shop. It has such a great vibe and what they do and stand for is incredible. Even more so they have gluten free options! That taste great!! I had the GF banana bread, it was absolutely delicious. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend this place to anyone but even more so to my gluten free friends.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop in the Gables next to Anthony's. Good coffee, great service and yummy treats - if you are a coffee lover it's a great spot.

Yelp
Good coffee and unusual menu of tasty snacks and baked food. Healthy options. Nice design. Tables are a little small. Not ideal for working for a long time.

Yelp
Nice food with beautiful inside! I love this cozy place! It is a location I would recommend even though I am not a local customer.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop off Ponce de Leon, perfect for a quick coffee on the go! They have a small area for pastries, if it looks empty, make sure to ask, as they may be baking some fresh goodies in the back! My go to is cold brew w/ a splash of almond milk.
google avatar

Deby V.

Yelp
Had the best cold brew in years here. Their empanada was delicious too--beef was so tender it melted in your mouth. Pan de bono was good too, nice and soft! Very nice barista and a calm, chill coffee spot.
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
This coffee shop has really good espresso! I got an iced latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup My coffee was delicious and really well made Although I wish they had more options like mocha or lavender syrup Service was good , there was just one girl working at the time and she did her best to take orders and make the drinks all by herself Definitely on a busy rush you have to be patient if it's just one person in the counter Ambiance was nice the place has little seating availability since the shop is fairly small , parking it's on the street so you might have difficulty finding one near the store since it's in the middle of coral gables

Yelp
Came into Miami last night. Woke up needing good coffee to start the day- especially with the time change coming from the West Coast. Found this place using YELP and immediately upon entering I knew we found the right place. Clean, bright and stylish offering local goods. But what about the coffee? The reason for the visit. We had the espresso made from Brazilian beans roasted only a few days ago. It was delicious. The presentation of the coffee was in a glass mug on a bamboo tray. Took the coffee drinking experience just a notch up. The best part of the visit was the employees. Friendly and knowledgeable. We spoke at length with Gustavo. He is passionate about coffee and hospitality. He educated us on the beans and gave us tips of things to do while here. Go see him and try their coffee you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Great local spot for coffee, breakfast, or lunch. Fresh local ingredients with friendly service.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
The coffee here is the best coffee in Miami. The barista Giuliana was so friendly and made us delicious sandwiches as well. Will absolutely be coming back anytime I'm in the area!

Yelp
Nice spot to work remotely for the day! Fresh food items and a nice selection of cold and warm coffee, and matcha drinks. The iced matcha latte, was great, and little to no sugar! I appreciated this since I have tried many iced matcha's around miami and some of them have had added sugar to the powder. I also ordered an iced decaf latte for my little brother and he really like it, along with a chocolate chip cookie that he enjoyed. The service was also good. You have to pay for parking, that is typical of any spot in the gables. My rating (so far) is a 4.5. I really wanted to try their guava pan de bono, hope they have it next time I visit.
google avatar

Blanca M.

Yelp
Good coffee, quiet place to work; not very busy. Guava pan de bono was delicious...it had an interesting texture in the dough: softer and chewier and smoother than traditional pan de bono.

Sydney L.

Yelp
Awesome little spot with delicious food. Service was also very friendly and welcoming

Kelli W.

Yelp
Best tasting coffee for true coffee aficionados in Coral Gables!! Great vibe super chill and friendly staff!

Yelp
House of Per'la, how I love thee. I am updating my review as this is the first place I have visited to sit in post-quarantine restaurant reopening and it feels so good to be back. House of Per'la has re-opened, and they are offering a limited menu, all the coffee, and seating should you like to enjoy your coffee inside. Welcome back, to some of the best folks in the Miami coffee scene. Over the last year I have gotten to know the folks at Per'la and they make some ridiculously good coffee. Typically, I come here quite often to enjoy coffee, pan de bono and conversation. If you're intimidated by trying really good coffee, owners Chris and Paul really demystify it for you in a super approachable way. They are some of the nicest business owners I have had the pleasure to get to know, and they know a ridiculous amount about coffee. Ask them questions, they will 100% help you elevate your coffee game. From cold brew, to drip, to latte's - they have something for everyone here. They have also teamed up with Mari of Casa Gioia to offer some ridiculously good sweets. Need more sweetness in your life? You can pick up The Native Guy honey here, too. It's a trifecta of local love that makes me happy on the regular. Also - do not sleep on their pan de bonos. Don't feel like stopping by? That's 100% cool - you can order Per'la Coffee online. Grateful that while I have been socially distant from so many things that I love during quarantine - I have not been distant from good coffee thanks to Per'la Coffee. So happy to see them back in business, and hope to keep my duchess title (aka most check-ins on Yelp) thriving here.

Yelp
It's been a couple of times now that I've stopped at House of Per'La. It's usually for some sort of Yelp event and this time really wasn't different. Well, except that aside from picking up a brunch kit for the virtual event they were having the next day, I actually bought some breakfast there. I bought a delicious pan de bono and was quite surprised at receiving a complimentary cappuccino. Now I had had the pan de bono previously, but taking a bite of this cheesy goodness only reaffirmed the blissful memories I had of it. Have you ever gone somewhere and sampled some food only to find yourself repetitively thinking about it? That's what the pan de bono was to me. As for the cappuccino, this was my first time having it, but it certainly won't be the last. It was the first coffee I had had in a store in weeks and it struck a cord with me. It was freshly made, fragrant, and fortuitously strong. Definitely the type of drink to wake you up in the morning, or in general, for people who enjoy coffee period. Oh, and did I mention that the staff is pleasant? That goes a long way, especially in these times of the coronavirus. Definitely will return and sample more of the goods. I can definitely see myself lounging around on a weekend there, sipping on some coffee while enjoying a bite to eat. I do believe they have an avocado toast, at least from what I recall from the photos on Yelp. Hmm, I find this quite intriguing. Someday. For now, at least I can take things to go.

Yelp
Okay service, I don't mind pay for coffee but it was pretty watered down i got a caramel latte didn't taste like caramel or coffee the foam was alright but that's it lackluster and lacking anything that separates them from other shops, overall mid also the cup lids fall off pretty easily

Ashleigh W.

Yelp
Extreamly clean and welcoming environment. Employees were very caring and nice, and the best part was the food was so fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Ericka G.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with four legged furry friends welcomed. Met up with Diandra for some tickets I won, hooray to Yelp and Diandra for that! All smiles here =) While here we decided why not eat and started off with a cappuccino (no sugar) and a cortado (again no sugar and a drop of milk) for breakfast bites we had the cheese croissant which was just freshly made and a baked chicken empanada. Both were got and delicious and that chicken empanada came shredded and in this delicious white sauce. I have never had an empanada with such a flavor. On that alone and the friendly service I'd come back. Definitely a cool local space to relax and start the day!

Yelp
Small coffee shop located behind Anthony's coal fired pizza. Hard to see just because there really isn't a visible outdoor sign. It's small and quaint. A tribute to exactly what it's meant to be. This small shop carries a lot of heart for its size. As we walked in my husband commented on the prices. Honestly I wasn't surprised. It's coral gables and the prices are usually a little higher. However I decided on a latte and it was a great size! Big enough to satisfy my caffeine needs. I also decided on trying the avo toast. It was OK. I had seen previous photos and was expecting chunks of avocado. Instead it was creamy. Reminded me of the guac I buy in Publix. They also had a pan de Bono sandwich. This was delicious. The coffee was great and honestly I'll go back for the coffee alone. I'll also want to try out more of their sandwiches.
google avatar

Ed W.

Yelp
Cool place.... Really good coffee and pan de bonos were delicious.... fluffy and cheesy. Lots of pastry options... they all looked yummy. I only had the chance to try pan de bonos but definitely a good place to come back and try different things.

Rosemary S.

Yelp
Great coffee, lovely staff. Croissants are really good as well. The place is clean and comfy.

Yelp
I stopped by this past weekend to pick up my brunch package for the Virtual Brunch event with Holstein Housewares (yeeee). I had attended an event here for coffee education with the owners, so I knew their coffee was sourced responsibly and carefully and was tremendously on point. I had no idea that they had closed this cafe for when the COVID pandemic began, and they happened to have a pop up opening for this day only. They had tape markers for socially distanced line waiting. At the front of the café, I got my brunch package and was offered a coffee drink. My latte was beautiful and aromatic despite the amount of milk in it. I didn't think I needed coffee when I ordered it but I sure wanted more of it when I started drinking it! Their cold brew is also amazing. Hearing from the owners on their process of sourcing and brewing makes tasting their products even more enjoyable. It makes a difference to have their coffee hot or cold! Also I don't know who makes their pandebono but it's the best savory warm gooey thing ever to accompany coffee. I love what Per'La does with their active collaborations with local partners. (Get some Native Guy honey while you're there!) You can find out through their social media how to get their packaged coffee and when they have their pop ups again. I hope they reopen for good really soon!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
I visited House of Per'la during a Yelp tasting event and had a wonderful time! I will be back to enjoy their coffees and great atmosphere. We sampled 6 unique coffees both hot and cold and learned about the brewing process. The owners were super friendly and run a great business in Coral Gables. I love supporting local small business owners. They collaborated with The Native Guy (local honey) and Beat Culture (Miami brewery), and even have coffee infused beer available there. It is a little hard to locate, around the corner from Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, with the entrance on Almeria Ave
google avatar

Adrian M.

Yelp
This was our second time at the coffee shop. This time we came hungry and ready for some tasty beverages. We both had pan de bonno and they were both delicious. I had the guava one while my girlfriend had the cheese one. In my opinion they needed to be heated just a little bit longer but it wasn't something that ruined the pastry. This time I had the matcha green tea latte with oat milk which I saw in a review and man was that a good recommendation. I loved it! It was so flavorful and it worked it's magic on waking me up. This place stays consistent in service and quality. Definitely one of my favorite spots. Can't wait for them to have their full menu back

Dulcinea T.

Yelp
I was so happy GROU opened in Coral Gables. The staff here is always so friendly and personable! Super friendly staff makes the experience better. The coffee is always great, they make it perfectly. It's never too busy when I go and I often see regulars which is a very good sign. Healthy food options. Clean space but not the most comfortable stools at the bar space though light and bright.
google avatar

Stefany D.

Yelp
What a cute little coffee house. I actually went by to pick up some tickets for SobeWff from Yelp Miami (yay and thanks btw) I had not ate or drank anything so decided to get some stuff. I got the matcha iced latte, which was delicious. I also ordered empanadas. I had a chicken one and a tomato caprese one. These empanadas tasted fresh and the flavorful. Sometimes empanadas tend to me greasy and these were not at all. I believe they were probably baked, so that helps. I did not try any coffee today, but they looked soo good and the barista really takes his time with each order to make sure whatever he is making comes out great. I cant wait to come back to try some coffee and more if their food!
google avatar

Blue A.

Yelp
TLDR: it's a bit pricey but the quality is worth it. _____ I came in for a quick lunch and to get a little work done on my laptop while in the area for a meeting. I got the: BLAT- bacon lettuce aocado tomato with a delicious aoli. This was excellent Ham and havarti in a Croissant - has honey! Also really good but a little smaller than I'd expect Pan de Bono with guava is a delicious bite and a nice twist on the traditional Brazilian cheese bread. Ice latte with home made vanilla syrup - the coffee shines here. It was excellent! The syrup was a nice subtle sweetness and smooth vanilla. Loved it!
google avatar

Sergio F.

Yelp
So I stopped here for a quick brunch when a good friend said I needed to get some me time while having a family issue. Besides a pick me up convo with said friend, I found some yummy bites that held me over til dinner. Tucked away behind a chain pizza place, House of Per'La is definitely worth the find. Ill start with: Bacon. Chocolate. Chip. Cookie. Yes, it's as good as it sounds (I liked it better than their guava chocolate chip). Yes, they have that many variety of sweets. For my actual brunch, I enjoyed their fluffy frittata with cheese, a cheese pan de bono (getting the guava one one next time), and a perfectly warm artistic latte. I did take the aforementioned cookies to go after hearing my friend mention them. Speaking of coffee, you can also buy coffee beans and they will grind them at the store. Since my culinary skills are zero to nill, I will just enjoy it at Per'La. The space is cozy and the vibe low-key, perfect to study or get some work done. Oh, and well behaved doggos in strollers are welcome.
google avatar

Cassie P.

Yelp
I was rather devastated when I heard Cafe Curuba was closing but House of Per'La has something good going on. Much of the food menu has remained the same so far. Don't sleep on the guava pan de bono, chocolate chip cookie, or basically any sandwich. Now, the coffee is different because Per'La roasts it's own beans right here in Miami and it's so dang good. I don't consider myself a coffee snob, but can totally taste a difference between their cold brew and espresso, compared to what I find in other spots. It's quite addicting. If you don't love coffee, they serve local Jojo tea and I had a tasty matcha latte not too long ago. Also, Milo shakes are a favorite of my Colombian hubby. I love working from here, as well. It's small but I can always find a spot at a table or along the coffee bar. I usually park in the metered lot next door, or right in front on the street if I'm lucky. The staff is super friendly, as is the clientele. I guess what I'm trying to say is... It's going to be ok. I'm excited about what these guys are doing and can't wait to see how it continues to evolve over time. Oh yeah! They're also open seven days a week which is clutch because afternoon slumps totally happen on the weekend too.
google avatar

Dora G.

Yelp
Found this gem of a place thanks to Yelp! Miami. Small and quaint, you have a fresh scent of coffee beans as soon as you walk into House of Per'La. Zavier/Zandrian? (I'm so sorry if I got it wrong) was super sweet and immediately explained the different coffee options and small bites they offer. I ended up getting a chocolate croissant, heated. (OMG!) And an iced latted with oat milk. Love love love. Oat milk was NOT over powering and you definitely still tasted that dark/roasty coffee flavor. Per'La got pretty busy, pretty quickly and it handled it like a true pro. They offer bags of their beans as well as local honey for sale. There is plenty of seating to hang out as well. I don't live in the immediate area, but Per'La has definitely left a mark on me.

Yelp
I stopped by a few times in June & July 2020 on a reccomendation from the good Marilu. You'll also see her reviews. She turned me onto how great this place was and is. And she was right. She knocked it out of the park. The level of service & hospitality I received from one of the owners was absolutely amazing. Stellar in fact. The quality and freshness of the food and coffee that they also roast was also outstanding. The place is small. But it is so immaculate and extremely clean. At the time I was there a handful of times they were only making a certain amount of food daily due to many of the surrounding office buildings being closed and majority of people working from home. I was still able to try a few different items. This buns are to die for. Marilu mentioned that they were a must try. The pandebono. They were A mazing. The restaurant is so nicely & ornately decorated. Yetso simple. You can tell a lot of thought, care and attention to detail went into it. The only thing was it was a little tricky to find even after I parked and was walking around looking for it. Even though i had the address. That's the only minus I have for them and it's not there fault. So keep doing the phenomenal job you've been doing. Their coffee is amazing. Had to purchase a pound to give to someone as a gift. Ask them and they'll grind it for you if you want.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
This is a cute and modern coffee shop. I had a cappuccino and the hubby had a cortado. The coffees taste good and the service was nice. The food and snack selection was very limited about two to three things to choose from... We had a Danish pastry which was good. I would try it again later on but for now I definitely want to try other coffee shops around the area.
google avatar

Mansi T.

Yelp
Great coffee! My latte with oat milk tasted great. Heads up for people who like syrups, the only flavors they have are simple syrup and vanilla. I enjoyed my coffee and would go back.
google avatar

Sharay S.

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee shop! I loved how bright it is inside and appreciated that it wasn't super crowded while I was getting some reading done. It seems like a good spot for a quick run-in for a latte. There are limited tables, but it didn't seem to be an issue while I was there. I had a maple latte that was so good. The barista adjusted the sweetness for me, and i was very pleased! Definitely will be stopping in again soon.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Easily the best coffee shop in the area!!!! I had the pleasure of briefly meeting the owners and wow, it really explains this place. The passion they have for what they do is truly shown through everything on the menu. The coffee - DELICIOUS. I recommend a cold brew with oat milk. Yum! And the food is soo good. We tried the pan de Bono and a chicken empanada. They were both great, but the chicken empanada was unlike any we've ever had. The filling wasn't the traditional Cuban chicken stew style, but I guess more of a green chili is the only way I can explain it. It was AMAZING. Just writing about it makes me want to go back and have another one. They also have amazing pan de Bono creations, like a breakfast sandwich style as well as one with guava. These two are coveted so get there before the ones in the display case run out and you have to wait for the kitchen to finish up new ones. There's plenty of parking on the street as well as a pay by phone lot behind. The place is small though, so many not one to go study or get some work fine at. Otherwise, this place is a gem!

Yelp
I love this hidden coffee shop in Coral Gables not because it's hidden but because the coffee is always consistently good. It's a great place to grab a quick coffee before you start your day.
google avatar

Lynette B.

Yelp
Great little spot in the Gables to grab a bite and some delicious coffee. I tried the cappuccino with oat milk and an avocado toast. The coffee was delicious and I enjoyed the avocado toast. Perfect start to the day. Service here is friendly and fast. And whatever oat milk they use is excellent.
