The Best Cookies in London

"Grove Lane Deli’s best cookie is a must-try for anyone in the area for which it is named. Dark chocolate chunks, desiccated coconut, toasted pecans, and malty barley flour hang together in a wet, sticky dough. Cookies are baked slowly at a low temperature, and given a solid whack with the back of a spoon as they come out of the oven, resulting in a truly chunky cookie with a crunchy exterior which remains gooey inside. The barley flour imparts a sweet, earthy, malted flavour to a robustly textured and variegated cookie. When owner Danielle opened the doors to Grove Lane Deli a month or so before officially opening, offering freshly baked cookies to inquisitive passers-by, they were quickly swarmed by the local community who heard about these exceptional cookies. It’s for this reason that they became known as Camberwell cookies, and Danielle decided to cap the price at just £2 – a cookie “for the people” (of Camberwell, at least.)" - Emma Louise Pudge

Good selection of books and it’s extra nice because it feels properly procured by the owners. Ace coffee as well and a lot of people sit outside after their shop. Great local addition.

Great little gem of a bookstore, staff is so friendly and after going there a couple times it feels like you are part of an extended network of a real honest community. Great matcha and coffee as well. Astonishing how much time one can spend browsing books in a small store like this, really speaks about the great selection the owner is constantly putting together.

Love this place and everyone who works there. It's so nice to see how many people welcomed an independent bookstore and how it has become a place not just for books but the readers. Camberwell needed a place like this so badly. Also, their events are truly great! Summer nights sorted!

Just so folks know, they've traded cakes and pastries for novels and biographies - it's a firmly a book store now, and it's treats are intellectual rather than flaky and buttery. So if you see reviews mentioning how good the carrot cake was (and it was pretty good), and come down expecting a slice, I'm afraid you may be dissapointed. They still do a nice flat white though, and the selection of books is small but solid. Most any book in here would serve as a great pick for you're next book club meeting. Camberwell didn't really have a book store before this, unless you wanted to schlep it to the South London Gallery, so it's a fine addition to the street.

Lovely little neighbourhood cafe with great coffee. Food looks amazing but cake was actually really dry and nothing special. Also staff aren’t very polite, I’d barely got through the door when the gentleman behind the counter said ‘can you close the door’… prefacing this with a hello and closing with a please might be a nice gesture.

It's nice to have a book shop locally, but the staff here always seem too preoccupied to be of any help, and don't appear to be willing to proactively help or even acknowledge you as a customer. Typically they are chatting away to some friend who has come in, or a colleague as you approach the counter to pay, having not even acknowledged your presence on entering the shop and browsing. The last time I came in I stood awkwardly at the counter ready to pay, waiting for them to finish their conversation about their weekend plans. As you can imagine, this makes for a pretty uncomfortable experience. Moreover, they seem unable to give recommendations, or comment on any of the (albeit decent) selection of books that they do have. Disappointing

Cute little spot with absolutely delicious cakes. We got here later in the day so there wasn't a ton of stuff left but we got to try the most delicious buttermilk berry pie and lemon cake. Servings are huge and definitely worth the price! Service is super friendly and a couple of cute chairs and tables out front. Definitely will be back!

Tried a sandwich here and it was very good. There are a lot of different deli food provided. They all look delicious. Price wise is on the expensive side, but if you enjoy the quality, then it’s not going to be an issue. On street parking paid and displayed but free after 6:30pm and at the weekend. Bus stop is near by and short walk from the Denmark Hill station. Takeaway only. No seating area.

Yelp
I discovered this lovely place by accident when I was going for a swim at the nearby public swimming pool. After an hour swimming, their sandwich was the best reward. So tasty! Also, the staff was super friendly. A real neighborhood gem.
