Lala Books - Review - Camberwell - London - The Infatuation

"Our dream day in London includes a stop-off at Lala Books. This bookshop-meets-cafe is tucked down the residential end of a busy Camberwell street. And it’s the kind of place where it feels almost inevitable you’ll have a meet cute moment while sitting outside with a latte and something Booker Prize-shortlisted." - Sinéad Cranna

The Best Cookies in London

"Grove Lane Deli’s best cookie is a must-try for anyone in the area for which it is named. Dark chocolate chunks, desiccated coconut, toasted pecans, and malty barley flour hang together in a wet, sticky dough. Cookies are baked slowly at a low temperature, and given a solid whack with the back of a spoon as they come out of the oven, resulting in a truly chunky cookie with a crunchy exterior which remains gooey inside. The barley flour imparts a sweet, earthy, malted flavour to a robustly textured and variegated cookie. When owner Danielle opened the doors to Grove Lane Deli a month or so before officially opening, offering freshly baked cookies to inquisitive passers-by, they were quickly swarmed by the local community who heard about these exceptional cookies. It’s for this reason that they became known as Camberwell cookies, and Danielle decided to cap the price at just £2 – a cookie “for the people” (of Camberwell, at least.)" - Emma Louise Pudge

They’ve created a lovely atmosphere. The book selection is great despite the shop being quite small and the staff are really kind and friendly! Great place to have a coffee and a read, would recommend to anyone in the area looking to pick up their next read.

Good selection of books and it’s extra nice because it feels properly procured by the owners. Ace coffee as well and a lot of people sit outside after their shop. Great local addition.

Lovely little neighbourhood cafe with great coffee. Food looks amazing but cake was actually really dry and nothing special. Also staff aren’t very polite, I’d barely got through the door when the gentleman behind the counter said ‘can you close the door’… prefacing this with a hello and closing with a please might be a nice gesture.

Cute little spot with absolutely delicious cakes. We got here later in the day so there wasn't a ton of stuff left but we got to try the most delicious buttermilk berry pie and lemon cake. Servings are huge and definitely worth the price! Service is super friendly and a couple of cute chairs and tables out front. Definitely will be back!

Tried a sandwich here and it was very good. There are a lot of different deli food provided. They all look delicious. Price wise is on the expensive side, but if you enjoy the quality, then it’s not going to be an issue. On street parking paid and displayed but free after 6:30pm and at the weekend. Bus stop is near by and short walk from the Denmark Hill station. Takeaway only. No seating area.

Small place without sitting area. However, the food is nice (Delish carrot cake) and of course, the coffee is strong just like I like it!

Great little spot with an impressive selection of cakes! Everything looked amazing, including their selection of pantry goods.

Google
Absolutely exceptional! Hardest thing is to decide what to get. Carrot cake was delicious, moist (and huge!) but the lemon meringue was a standout. Sandwiches are also epic. One of the best spots in London

Yelp
I discovered this lovely place by accident when I was going for a swim at the nearby public swimming pool. After an hour swimming, their sandwich was the best reward. So tasty! Also, the staff was super friendly. A real neighborhood gem.
