The Best Mofongo in San Juan: 15 Spots to Try - Eater

"At gastronomy bar Guararé, owners Joseph Boucher Martínez and Annette Giuliani proudly showcase the riches of Puerto Rican agriculture in their comida criolla alongside local music talent. Take a tour through their craft cocktails, made with fresh ingredients like smoked lavender, blueberry syrup, and elderflower. Then explore their mofongo and trifongo, best paired with the churrasco encebollado, skirt steak, and glassy caramelized onion that infuse the mofongo with their juices." - Gabriela Torres

I truly enjoyed eating here and the service i got from liny. She’s awesome! Nothing but good vibes, honestly her energy alone made me want to eat here. The prices are definitely higher than other restaurants but it’s worth it. The food was delicious.

Omg. Where do I start? The veggies were perfect, seasoned very well and the correct texture. I don't even know the name of my burger but the flavors were insane!! Truffle fries and a live band. LINY served us and she did great suggesting dishes and cocktails that we would enjoy

The main reason this got a 4 star was for the drinks!! Every drink was really good. The food was so so. I ordered the tomahawk pork and it was dry even though it was covered in This sweet sauce.. the rice with beans was the best thing we ate. My friend ordered the fried red snapper and it was also decent. Overall good atmosphere.. we had fun even if the food was so so.. next time we will just go for the drinks.

Great ambiance, lots of open air seating, great drinks and food, awesome music and shout out to our waitress Kimberly for excellent service! I will definitely return.

This was the worst experience! Don’t come here! Deceptive, excessive pricing and nearly unconscionable. We were charged over $70 for an appetizer, pineapple juice, a virgin colada and two beers. A dismal experience and not worth the money. Did I mention no a/c and no parking?

Honestly, just an overall dope vibe. You gotta check it out! Drinks and service sre phenomenal. Food is tasty. Do it! And chill in the area. A lot of great spots and art to admire😍

Google
I normally don’t leave reviews pero la comida estaba excelente!! Y el servicio no se queda atrás!! I 100% recommend this place to anyone and everyone. This has become my favorite restaurant. I would recommend a specific waiter but they’re all amazing and attentive!!!

You must try the pástelillos for appetizers. All are good! We had the chuletón, trifongo con carne frita, and the carrucho salad. All were very good. Somewhat loud ambiance. There is parking but get there early and make reservations to dine inside...otherwise you risk getting wet when quick showers arrive. Be prepared to share with locals...Recommended

Yelp
From the Salon de la Fama from Guarare comes the TRIFONGO. This has to be THE best version of Mofongo I've ever had. The Trifongo is the beast of the mofongo family, made with green plantain, sweet plantains, and yuca this is sure to make you want to come back for more. You can order it filled with Carne frita, Camarones, or Seasonal veggies. I ordered mine filled with Carne Frita and it was mouthwateringly delicious. Carne Frita ( sous vide fried pork chunks) was my go-to side for most of the trip at Guarare is fried to perfection and so flavorful. I've also had their Mofongo con carne frita and it was also delicious. Guarare is a must-visit when in Puerto Rico.

Yelp
Went here on a business thing to celebrate a good trip with client. Really good food and drinks. Staff was a little lost but we got everything. Loved the PR authentic food. Lots of locals and dating couples. Definitely drop by if your in the neighborhood.

Yelp
First, the name is pretty cool on its own, but it is also the name of a song. Parked in a rear lot and went in. The vibe is pretty cool. Sat inside because outside tables were taken. Even when inside, you feel fresh air flowing as if you were outside. There a few cool murals painted and salsa music playing. Ordered a few drinks and appetizers and had a lovely night. Will return.

Yelp
Me quedé bruta.

Yelp
Mi plato no llegaba.

Yelp
If you want to go to a truly unique and hip Puerto Rican restaurant, check this out. The vibe is great. The food and drinks are very good enough. I highly recommend it. What I do not recommend, is bringing your car. There's almost no place to park. Uber over it's easier.

Yelp
Usually I don't leave negative reviews, but this was truly unacceptable and very unexpected in a restaurant. We are a large party, I understand this, but if you cannot take on the work do not do so. We spent about 2 hours at this restaurant and 1.5 was waiting for our meals, when they brought out the meals it was staggered and by parts.. I ordered a risotto with pigeon peas and steak.. After waiting 1.5 hours I get my risotto.. The steak? Took about 20 more minutes to come out, I was so hungry that by the time the meat came out, I was very close to being done with my risotto.. Another person in our group ordered possibly the simplest plate rice, beans and grilled chicken.. They brought the grilled chicken out 25 minutes before bringing out the rice and beans.. The waitress, who was very attentive, indicated they have a "very small kitchen" and "only 3 cooks" which is not news to them, I'll repeat, if you can't take on the load don't do it. My trip was very short and this was unfortunately the only public dining experience I had on the island. Customer service was great, the wait times, and quality of food must be bettered.

Yelp

Yelp
Nice concept and entertainment but prefer their salsa nights. In fact, they should have the live salsa bands on the weekends. Also need more Latin Jazz nights. Food is good but a little on the pricy side. Usually a nice crowd. We need more of these type of places in San Juan. Service was good and the girls are helpful.

Yelp
Good ideas, bad execution. If you cut your pernil into little pieces to save time, you will serve a dry hard tasteless stuff nobody would like. Please, if your bread is stale better do bread pudding than serve that hard and bad tasting stuff. My god the pork fried meat was overcooked and was reheated to be totally ruined. Good place for drinks but avoid the food. The musician was good. Sad that no one on our party liked what they ordered.

Yelp
Dinner & Brunch within the same weekend. The food is excellent. If you're really hungry or want to share have the Moncho Burger. Delicious!!!For Brunch, the Inolvidable Eggs Benedict. OMG!! The acerola mimosa is refreshing and different. The dishes came out perfect and service was impeccable. Please remember to tip generously.

Yelp
I came here for Valentine's Day, I made a reservation at 9 PM but they called me and said the kitchen closes at 9PM so asked me to come at 8:30PM, that was fine. When we were sat the service was pretty slow. We ordered drinks, they were very good. We finally ordered our food (past 9PM) and it was okay. Very over priced and salty. I liked the ambiance and the location of the place. Maybe I'd go back for drinks but not the food.

Yelp
This is a great spot and a very cool concept but the service is far from acceptable. We had a reservation, arrived on time and were sat at our table inside, close to the bar. For 20 minutes we sat there and NO ONE ever asked us if we wanted anything. It was hot and loud inside so we decided to moved outside and wish for better luck. Wishful thinking, indeed! We sat outside and our waitress was sweet, nice and helpful explaining the specialty drinks and the menu. She took our order and then we had to wait AN HOUR for our drinks. In the mean time, one of us went to check what was going on and were told that the drinks order was not received at the bar but that they were working on it. More time passed by and no drinks. They didn't even offered us water. Another of us went to the bar to check on our drinks and the lack of respect shown by the "bar manager" was appalling. Neither the bar manager nor the waitress offered an apology or try to make it up to us. Quite the contrary! The waitress was quiet and the bar manager was rude and unprofessional. His attitude, demeanor and conversation were offensive and showed an absolute lack of basic customer service. When the drinks finally arrived they were watery and just ok. The mojito was the worst mojito I have ever tasted in my life and it was sent back. And of course, they tried to charged us for it. We also ordered some appetizers and they were very good but not worth the trouble to go back or the price. The place is quite expensive to say the least. Overall, the experience was terrible and we will not be returning.

Yelp
The waitress was great as well the food ... but the bar inside was the worst . It's too bad because we had such a great experience and then the bartender and a host were awful.. spoke to manager with tatoos on arm and he did not care at all !!! To bad
