A Gudetama-Themed Cafe Is Opening in Southern California - Eater LA

"The Gudetama Cafe, themed after Sanrio’s lazy egg character, is opening in Buena Park. The cafe, which will be the first of its kind in Southern California, offers a Gudetama-themed experience. The Japanese counterpart served dishes like yellow curry rice and hot chocolate with a Gudetama marshmallow. We came on Easter for the Easter egg hunt and it was so worth it! Staff was very friendly and went out of the way to make sure everyone got Easter eggs, even the adults! (each egg had candy, free food, or prizes) Food was surprisingly good! I liked how they had different sauce choices (Ketchup, spicy ketchup, Tapatio, spicy mayo, ranch) The whole place was too cute. Literally everything, from the table, walls, toothpick, etc. was gudetama. The only suggestion I have is that they advertise more on Instagram. The only reason I found out about the Easter egg hunt was because I personally contacted them to find out if they were open on the holiday or not. I feel they would bring more customers in if they posted more

Realistically when you come to the Gudetama Cafe, you're going for the experience - not the food. I think that's important because the food here is just okay, and it does cost quite a bit. Our sandwiches were fresh and hot, but not incredibly flavorful. We did really like the drinks. There's lots of cute merch, and the gude themed food is really fun to see and take photos of. If you're going to enjoy a themed cafe, it's worth seeing - the decor is really fun! But if you're looking to grab something to eat in general and aren't attached to the concept, you'll find cheaper and better options elsewhere. There are still lines so definitely recommend going at off-hours, but if you're the first customer you get to open the egg open sign outside!

We came here while traveling and it was not crowded because we came rather late morning and during weekday. Super cute store with food and drink offerings.. must visit place for those who like GUDETAMA.

This is an absolute awesome café to visit if you are a fan of Gudetama, Japanese animation, or Muzak. Breakfast food from open to close, cute animation themed from floor to ceiling, and absolutely perfect to the core. My daughter and I split a Lazy Bacon, Egg, and cheese with a side of breakfast tots. Absolute perfection in presentation and taste. My daughter had the mango milk tea and it looked like broken eggs and tasted fantastic. We will be returning. Expect a line, but it's worth the wait. Includes a small merchandise section conveniently located before the registers.

Google
Definitely a place for kids who "like" and "know" Gudetama! the place is fun, the food was just OKAY specially for the price except for the tater tots that were pretty delicious. the creme brulee cold brew was really nice! ... also not sure why the merchandise was all about hello kitty and not Gudetama?

3 people ate an entree and shared 1 dessert for the price of $67. For that price, and it being a cafe, I want real plates and utensils. Everything is served in plastic containers and they provide plastic utensils. Absolutely horrible. Thinking about all that plastic waste makes me cringe. The food was bland. Teriyaki was grainy. French fries undercooked. Katsu was stringy. The dessert, which looked amazing, and should have been the saving grace, was not. It was not very sweet and just didn't deliver. It just was all very disappointing. The staff were friendly and full of smiles. That is the only kind thing I can say.

Not sure about the bad reviews but when we went the food was great, service was great and the staff was so nice. My girls and I enjoyed out meal and treats.

I don’t think it’s worth going, not the time or the money. It’s not trash, but definitely overvalued. I would say it’s like Shake Shack in terms of food and service quality. We waited an hour and twenty from 9:45, and they open at 10 on weekends. As we were leaving around noon, the line went around the building, just about the same as we started. We ordered 2 entrees (which included tater tots) and 2 drinks which totaled to $50. You order and pick up from the counter, but we’re talking about sit-down restaurant prices… Moving on to how good their food is, the sausage, egg, egg and cheese was very yummy, like a McMuffin but better in all aspects: fancy bun, fried egg, and bigger size. I’d still call it fast food (like diner food) so the $16 price is too much. The Wagyu sliders were mid. The meat quality wasn’t noticeably better, and it was dry as we didn’t order with cheese. The tater tots were well crisped, but I’m not a big fan of tater tots in general. Our drinks were very tasty. The sparkling mango is good and the chewy bits are super enjoyable. The one gripe is, again, it’s $6 for the most basic event cafe drink.the Mango Passionfruit

Yelp
Character cafes are notorious for being all looks with food as an afterthought. I did not feel this way about Gudetama Cafe. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. The cafe is obviously very cute with photo ops and adorable sculptures of Gudetama nestled in every nook and cranny. Even the tables and chairs are Gudetama-themed. The service was very nice and friendly. And there's plenty of places to sit since the cafe is not that busy. The food was actually quite good. They have an open kitchen too so you can see your food being prepared fresh. The tater tots were crispy and delicious. They give you spicy ketchup, spicy Mayo, and ranch to eat with them. I thought the Lazy Bacon Egg and Cheese was kinda whatever, but the Gude Katsu was really good. The katsu was crispy and the meat inside was moist and juicy. The sandwich was relatively light and easy to eat as well - I quite enjoyed it. The drinks were a bit weird though. I think all the coffee drinks use the same cold brew base, which is pretty acidic and off putting when paired with sweet toppings with creme brûlée and ice cream. The drinks were more bearable after mixing them very well, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that they're good. Overall, I think the cafe was a bit review bombed and deserves a bit of a higher rating than 3.5 stars.

Yelp
The place is very cute, good if you want to take pictures, and there are cute merch to buy. The restroom is even gudetama theme. I bought food from the cafe twice and the food quality is disappointing. The egg and protein meat are very salty. I didn't finish any of my order on both of the times I've visited. The menu had mainly overpriced breakfast food of just egg, bread, and hashbrown. I didn't like how it was an automatically 20% gratuity tip when I paid for my meal. I only had 1 other person with me and I couldn't adjust the tip percentage. The tip seemed quite high for me since the staff who were working at the time were just on their phones and talking amongst each other when some customers needed help and most of the tables were dirty too.

Yelp
Extremely cute cafe!! If you love Gudetama it is a cool cafe to see but it is a little overpriced sadly :( The drinks were just okay as well. I specifically got the matcha and I did not taste any match in the drink even after mixing it. It kind of just tasted like milk. Other than that the place is very cute and the service was very good.

Yelp
The food at this cafe is overpriced, under-seasoned, and overcooked. The ambiance feels cold, gloomy, and far from cozy, making it an unwelcoming place to dine. The theming is there, but the restaurant portion of the cafe just doesn't feel themed enough. It would also be nice to see more Gudetama merchandise available, which might at least add a touch of charm to an otherwise lackluster place. The service was just fine, but it couldn't make up for the disappointing experience overall. To make matters worse, half of the menu items weren't even available, which added to the frustration. This cafe comes across as a soulless cash grab, more focused on squeezing money out of customers than providing a quality dining experience that should cater to the fandom.

Yelp
Gudetama was such a fun cafe to visit. It was heavily decorated inside and fun. The food was themed accordingly and the eggs had little faces in them! The food was pretty good considering its a themed cafe. We tried a few different items to get a mixture of it all. The yogurt drink was very sweet but as someone that doesn't like sweet, it was pretty good. The staff is friendly and seats you inside after you order your food. When I went there was a bit of a line but we only waited about 20 minutes or so. I would suggest coming here at least once to check out and try. We ordered the sleepy sliders, gude katsu and the lazy bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The sliders were decently good. The buns were great and stamped as well which were cute. The katsu was a little dry but not horrible considering the sauce! I enjoyed the lazy bacon personally as it was the infamous egg, bacon and cheese paired with some tater tots. Everything was great and cutesy for pictures. Come check it out at least for the vibes

Yelp
Ever since they opened up the Gudetama Cafe my nieces and I wanted to go. I personally don't care too much for a grand opening and waited to try it out when the hype died down a bit. We visited during Black Friday and the place was comfortably full. No lines, plenty of tables available and the parking situation on that side of the shopping center was wonderful. While the shopping center looked like a ghost town we also thought the cafe was closed. The interior is decorated with different Gudetama characters that goes the same with the walls. There are several stands for merch but during our visit they were not stocked up at all. The menu was interesting. Mainly sandwiches, drinks and desserts. My choices were limited since from my understanding I wanted the Gudetama face on my egg and they were only on the large eggs not the quail. Overall the place is cute and I am glad to have gotten the chance to check it out with my nieces. Parking: large private lot VERDICT: One and done

Yelp
What a perfect place to review for my 500th review This restaurant is so cute. Gudetama is everywhere in the cafe. Lots of cute photo opts. The drinks and food were good. I am not sure why they got reviewed so bad. The eggs were super fluffy. They don't have a large variety of food, but they had lots of different drinks to choose from. If you like Sanrio and like to take pictures, you will have fun here. They do not take reservations so get ready to wait in line. HAPPY SANRIOING!!

Yelp
Gude times! I've been wanting to visit the Gudetama Cafe for sometime now and I am so egg-cited that I finally can say I went. This cute Sanrio themed cafe is located right next to Buena Park mall. It definitely is cute and has lots of egg-cellent decor. The Gudetama egg is everywhere. He maybe a lazy egg but he sure can make his presence known! Even their food is Gudetama themed. We tried their cream puff and it was very gude. This is to be expected though as Gudetama Cafe partnered up with Beard Papas for their cream puffs! As Gudetama would say; "Seriously...I can't ..." I can't even tell you the gude-times I had visiting this cafe :) and how egg-citing it was.

Yelp
Food: The food was ok. I can't say it was the best? We ordered the Wagyu sliders and the protein option. The protein was overcooked, lacked flavor, and the cheese wasn't melted all the way which made it look like Kraft single slices The Wagyu sliders, in my opinion were overpriced. The patty was a bit on the overcooked side so I gave my partner the second one. Ambiance: cute place for adorable aesthetics and pictures but I don't see myself coming back for the food~

Yelp
This is a MUST if you're huge Gudetama fans like my sister and I! We went for my sister's birthday (June 2024), did a little research and got a room nearby to come in the morning (we live almost 100 miles away) since we knew there would be a line and a wait, which there was. The amount of people inside at a time is limited to allow a calm, not crowded experience, which I REALLY appreciated. You are not rushed to eat and leave inside either (in true Gudetama fashion). We got there about 10 minutes after opening, and waited about 25-30 minutes to get in. The building outside is painted bright egg yellow (you won't miss it) and covered in giant pics of Gudetama which makes for great photo ops while you wait. Inside, the lazy cuteness continues.. he's everywhere! Giant Gude burger on the counter, sculptures hanging from the ceiling, painted on the walls, and of course, the Gudetama in the golden egg in the center of the restaurant lol (see my pics)! There were a couple small cabinets with toys/merch, but hardly any left so that was a bummer. I was hoping we'd be getting our drinks with his logo on the cups too, but no luck so I took a star off just for the lack of merch since we were thinking there would be exclusive merch like the Hello Kitty Cafe. Order: Egg-cellent Sausage and Cheese sandwich (brioche bun, sausage patty, large egg, American cheese, spicy chili sauce), side tater tots and the Passion fruit yogurt smoothie with mango drizzle. The menu is small but the food is good! My sandwich was hot, top bun cast iron stamped with chef Gudetama, the toasted brioche was buttered nicely, sausage patty cooked well and not dry, egg perfectly cooked with Gudetama's face on it (runny yoke but cooked whites) and the tots were crispy. The Passion fruit smoothie tasted more like a smoothie and not yogurt, which I also appreciated. They also had Bears Papa + Gudetama cream puffs! I got one of those too. A heavy weight, but not overly sweet creamy dessert that topped off this cute brunch. Not sure if I'll come back again since we live so far, but as fans we had to do it once... And enjoyed it highly.

Yelp
Pretty long wait for the experience, however the food was decent. It was about an hour wait for a Sunday, but the Gudetama themed items were pretty cool. I believe most of the orders come with Tater Tots, and a Gudetama Egg. We got a sandwich and also a katsu. There's also Gudetama merchandise that is available for purchase.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cute place with lots of photo ops! We came over the weekend and no line at 1pm. The food was better than I expected. I ordered the katsu burger with tots. The egg and the bun has a gudetama. Orders were fresh, the cheese could've been melted a bit before served. A little expensive for a burger but as expected at a fan service restaurant. I would recommend if you're looking for a fun way to spend afternoon.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to visit this cute place . Unfortunately, other people had the same idea ... we had to wait 1/2 hour to enter. Seating is somewhat limited . I would recommend to order then have a person in your party find a table . Cuteness overload! The interior has Gutatama everywhere. Soooo cute! Food was surprisingly good. We got chicken burgers. Fries are actually tater tots which are pretty yummy . ( not greasy)

Yelp
I've been super excited about visiting the Gudetama Cafe ever since their grand opening back in the summer. After hearing that the lines have gone down, I've been wanting to make a trip to visit the cafe. I came with my friend and when we arrived there was line at all even though they have a prepared queue outside. Immediately after walking in, we were in awe in how cute the cafe is! The decorations are so adorable and it was definitely fun dining inside. I will say that it was a bit quiet and wish there was some kind of background music, but other than that it was still fun. I went ahead and ordered the protein style combo and my friend ordered the lazy, bacon, egg, & cheese and both our meals came with a gudetama face on it which was so cute haha! My friend ordered the matcha tea latte as well and she enjoyed it. The food was actually not too bad! It wasn't anything to die for, but it was definitely a great meal for a themed cafe. Although I did enjoy my experience, it wasn't anything extraordinary. I wouldn't make a second trip, but if I was in the area, maybe I'd stop in for a snack if I'm feeling the menu. Most of their items are breakfast options so it's definitely a specific menu one must be feeling to enjoy it. I'll definitely say it was cool to see another Sanrio cafe in California and hope to see more come out!

Yelp
Definitely come here if you're super into photo ops since they have quite a few backgrounds and very cute / Gudetama themed decor here. The tables, chairs, and almost everything was on theme, including the bathroom door and such. We (group of 4) visited back in May 2024 and we waited in line for quite some time. When we were seated, we discovered that we get our table, but we needed to go to the front to order our food and then they call our number and we pick it up. Pretty much a self service kind of thing. While waiting, there is a good chunk of time to walk around and take photos. They also have a bit of merch to buy, but not as much as we would have thought. Where were the exclusive items? They had a cute plastic tote-ish bag that had some snacks in there, but those snacks can be easily found at the local Asian markets. Not too special, but fun looking thankfully. We tried their sliders and their Katsu sandwich. Out of the 2, the sliders tasted better to me. Their tots were standard, but were pretty good. The dishes itself were a bit pricey for what it was, especially considering the overall lack of service. We also tried a couple drinks - the sparkling mango snack their passionfruit yogurt smoothie. Both were too sweet for all of us. Glad that we just tried this place as a snack and not a full on meal. Nice to experience it once. Fun concept, but prob could use a bit more Japanese inspiration re their theme cafes, etc.

Yelp
I'm a big Gudetama fan and I was super excited to visit this place. I have been waiting to come here since I've heard the wait times were insane. However, came here on a Monday afternoon and was glad there was no wait at all. Upon arriving, you can definitely tell you are there with the outside being super cute! There were a lot of Gudetamas on the outside of the building and as you enter, just as much inside! I love how the tables all had Gudetama and the decorations inside was super cute! There was no line to order so we were able to order immediately. The cashier was nice and was able to answer any questions we had. My boyfriend got a Protein Style with a Wagyu beef patty and I got the Gude Katsu, Egg and Cheese sandwisandwich. Both came with Waffle fries already and we also ordered 2 Creme Brulee Cold Brew. The coffee came out first and we both enjoy the Creme Brulee Cold Brews. The flavor was nice after you mix it but I loved the burnt sugar on top. When our food came out, it was SOOOO adorable. The did manage to put Gudetamas face on the egg and also stamped it on the top of the bread. The food I would say is decent but nothing so special about it. It was very plain for what you pay, but you do pay more for the brand/cuteness of Gudetama! Overall, if you are a Gudetama fan, I'd say it is a nice experience and nice seeing all the cute things they have, but I personally wouldn't come back for the food.

Yelp
The food was yummy! I am glad they had substantial food and not just snacks. The line was well controlled to get in the restaurant. I was surprised how little merchandise they sell in the store. I thought they would have more unique items. My daughter really enjoyed the slider sandwich that had a piece of fried cheese in it. The desserts were her favorite even though there are limited options compared to the hello kitty cafe. The cream puff had an apricot jelly on the top with a cute face we had to destroy. Pro tip: if you can go early in the day if you can
google avatar

April L.

Yelp
I know it might upset some people, but this cafe over hyped! The line can get crazy, the inside of the restaurant is a bit small, the chairs are metal and uncomfortable, the food was low quality and didn't taste good, it actually gave me diarrhea. What l got: $16 Katsu, Egg, and Cheese: The katsu is dry, and the cheese is cold. This sandwich is slightly better than the bacon, egg, and cheese one because there's more protein to fill you up. The only redeeming factor is the crunchy tater tots.
google avatar

Valerie K.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a good Sanrio cafe. It was a long wait since they had recently opened when we went, but it was fun for the novelty of it. The food is also not cheap, but again, it's really about the experience vs a high-quality restaurant. I was bummed that they did not have the Gudetama t-shirt in stock, so I went back to get one a few months later. The line has since died down a lot. It's definitely worth checking out while you're in SoCal.

Yelp
Well what do you know, I didn't expect to check this off my 2024 bingo box - a Gudetama Cafe in my hometown! Personally, I find it interesting that they opened it at the Buena Park Mall, considering this mall is not the liveliest of malls in the LA/OC area, but I hope that means some good change is coming to this mall. If you're a huge Gudetama fan, you'll definitely enjoy the sights provided by the cafe. You can't peer inside the cafe from the outside, so you're forced to wait in line to get some views of the inside. I came at 12 pm on a Friday afternoon, and I waited about 30 mins before stepping indoors. There's very limited seating indoors, which can contribute to the wait. Once inside, you can see references of Gudetama's face on numerous food items - burger, butter, bacon & eggs, pancakes, you name it! It's actually quite cute and very photogenic. Now for the food itself. I opted to get the katsu chicken, egg & cheese sandwich and their passionfruit smoothie. The sandwich did come with some fries, and overall, both were not bad. I did appreciate the Gudetama face on the fried egg itself, again very cute. The cost is more so paying for the name than for the quality/quantity of the food itself, but it's worth checking it out once. Luckily I was able to come by on a weekday as I don't think I would have the patience to wait during the busy weekend times.
google avatar

Yelp
Four stars for the super cute ambiance, cleanliness, and the friendliness of the staff. The location is in a weird spot, outside of a dying mall. We arrived about 5-10 minutes before opening and were able to get in on the first seating. Unfortunately they were sold out of most merchandise but had some Halloween-themed t-shirts and Asian snacks (you can get the snacks at most Asian grocery stores). It took a half hour to get our food and sadly, it was cold. The chicken katsu sandwich was the only thing still warm so I guess they make all the other food, then fry the chicken instead of making the eggs closer to when the katsu finishes so everything is warm. There were some variations between what I received and what was on the menu: kids meal came with lemonade instead of sparkling apple juice, and all three meals came with waffle fries instead of the tater tots, which was a little disappointing. Odd because some customers got tots and others got fries. I didn't finish my egg sandwich because cold fried eggs and unmelted American cheese slices aren't appealing to me; maybe only order a katsu sandwich.
google avatar

Sophia C.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! I went on a Friday afternoon and almost thought the store was closed because there were no lines and the windows are covered so you can't see in. I got the katsu sandwich, which was pretty tasty. You can also get extra sauce to dip the tater tots in. We also got the sparkling mango which was super refreshing. The food is definitely pricey and took a long time to come out even though there were no customers so it does seem like it's made to order, although they could improve their speed a bit. Overall, I think it's a fun experience but probably not one I'll come back to often.

Yelp
After seeing Gudetama Cafe being advertised on Instagram, I knew I had to stop by here during one of my future SoCal trips. Luckily I had the chance to last week while on a SoCal roadtrip. The cafe is located near Knotts Berry Farm and near a mall. We came on a Tuesday afternoon so it was very empty! Lucky us, no waits or anything. The inside decor is super adorable with lots of variations of gudetama. There's a large gudetama statue and backdrop that you can take a photo with, and the tables are suuuper cute! The food itself wasn't special, I ordered the breakfast slider and my boyfriend ordered the katsu slider. I also got the bacon cheese tots. The brioche buns are stamped with gudetama and on the egg comes with a gudetama face! Sooo cute! I also ordered a passion fruit mango smoothie, the size was pretty large and worth for $6. An employee checked on me to see if the smoothie tasted alright, which it did. Unfortunately there wasn't too much merch available at the time, which was a disappointment. Might be because we went on a less busier day. There were only shirts, hats, and some blind egg/boxes. I ended up getting the hat. I'd probably go again if I'm in the area again but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. Maybe if they introduce more variety to the menu.

Yelp
We barely made it with 10 minutes to spare, but the host said to let him know when we were ready to order, while he was stacking chairs. We scanned the menu and ordered the chicken katsu, egg and cheese sandwich, with upgraded cheesy, bacon tots, which came out to $19 with tax. A little pricey, but the presentation and taste were both eggs-cellent! Too bad they were sold out of the guda creme puffs -- I guess the ones in the case are display only! Right when our order finished, the kitchen announced they were closed, at 6:01 pm. If you love Gudetama, you definitely have to check out this charming cafe!

Yelp
I finally got the chance to check out Gudetama Cafe. It has been pretty crowded since opening and the lines were long, so I have been hesitant to come. This time, there was no line on a Saturday afternoon. There were some diners, but it was not crowded. If you love Gudetama, definitely check this themed cafe out! The customer service was nice and friendly. I love that they use pasteurized eggs here so you can eat runny eggs with no worries. The food is cooked to order so it comes out hot and fresh. The only thing I was sad about is that they didn't really have Gudetama merch when we came. They said they're awaiting additional shipment currently. * Gude Katsu, Egg, and Cheese 4/5 - The chicken katsu sandwich came with toasty, buttered brioche buns, cheddar cheese, and a perfect sunny side up egg with Gudetama face. It was really cute. The egg was delicious, though the chicken katsu was a bit dry. It came with a spicy ketchup sauce that tasted like spicy BBQ and ketchup combined. The tator tots were a bit too crispy for my taste, but still good. * Passionfruit Yogurt Smoothie with Mango Drizzle 5/5 - You can really taste the passionfruit and the mango here. The drink was very refreshing and the sweetness level was just right. It was more of a slushie consistency than smoothie, but yummy nonetheless.

Yelp
I'm a big gudetama fan and I really enjoyed the decor at the cafe and all of the gudetama details that they squeezed in. The staff was also super nice. They actually helped me bring our order to our table and didn't take too long when it came to prepping the food. As for the food, only certain items came with a lot of Gudetama details. I got the gude katsu sandwich, which did have the bun with Gudetama stamped on and the egg with Gudetama's face. My friends got the sliders, which only came with little skewers that have Gudetama images. While the food was good, it is very heavy. You could probably split an entree with a friend and still feel very full. That being said, I don't think that I would go back here. I think that this something that's fun to do once, but you're going here mostly to take pictures with all the Gudetama decorations and maybe buy merch.

Yelp
Without a doubt one of the worst food places Ive ever had. Dont be fooled by the cute egg faces. We ordered at the front register and the machine immediately prompts 20% tip. Why? We order at the front, pick up food in the back, and clean up our own trays and tables afterward. The matcha milk tea was mid for $6. The tater tots were dry and hard. Reminiscent of stale school cafeteria food. The sausages were very salty. The bacon was hard. The bread bun was edible. The avocado was sour. The eggs were normal. Thank god. This is a one and done place. It was not worth $60. No wonder theres no longer a line outside and only half of the tables were filled on a Saturday. Stay home and sharpie your own egg face on yolk. Thatll taste better and save money.

Yelp
Overhyped and small, greasy egg sandwiches. I went on a Friday afternoon, and there was a 1 hour wait. It took 15 minutes to receive our food after ordering. Note that the line outside dies off around 3PM. You can browse the little merch area they have at the entrance for blind boxes and assorted Gudetama and Sanrio items. They use a handheld megaphone to call out the orders, which is giving Sue Sylvester. I had a table next to the gudetama centerpiece below the buttered toast on the ceiling, and it was so LOUD. What I got: $16 Katsu, Egg, and Cheese: The katsu is dry, and the cheese is cold. This sandwich is slightly better than the bacon, egg, and cheese one because there's more protein to fill you up. $16 Bacon, Egg, and Cheese: The buns make up most of the sandwich so you eat more bread than filling. The cheese isn't melted, so it's an odd flavor to have runny egg mixed with that. $6 Mango Milk: tastes like whole milk with mango in it. It's on the tart side, and not too artificial tasting. The flavor didn't stand out to me, so I would not recommend going out of your way just to try this drink. The only redeeming factor is the crunchy tater tots. There were 5 workers in the kitchen, 1 on cashier, and 1 for calling out order numbers. There's about 17 tables inside. There is only one bathroom, which creates a long queue for people who only need to wash their hands--- they should have built a handwashing station. Ambience: low-fi beats I would not recommend going here beyond the novelty aspect. The food is not good. I honestly wanted to eat fruit and salad afterwards because of how oily the food was.

Yelp
I was going through the reviews before coming and the majority of them mentioned that the food here is not worth the hype and it's true. It would be cool if they actually bring more Japanese dishes to their menu. Even though the place is nicely decorated, it was definitely missing lighting :( So i'd go here to see the hype but will not be visiting often.

Yelp
I had high expectations since I love gudetama but I was shocked at how low quality the food was. I think people who come here are only here for the gudetama aesthetic and not for the food. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Burger which I appreciated having a gudetama stamp on my yolk and buns, but the chicken itself was quite dry. I saved the burger by eating it with their house sauces (spicy mayo and spicy ketchup). Their tator tots are decent but nothing too special. The avocado toast was pretty sad, thin bread and the quail egg on top didn't have gudetama on it :( Just doesn't seem worth the high price for the actual food. I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt and hope their drinks are better.

Yelp
Was very skeptical about this place at first since I thought it will be hype food. I really thought this Sanrio cult was just gassing it up, but it was actually pretty good ain't gonna cap. The egg sandwich was very good with a little Guantanamo bay guy on my egg. It was nice and messy how I like it with some great sauces to go along with it. The taters were doing its thing and tatering. Only problem was they ran out of hot drink which i dont understand how you run out of hot drinks. However, everything was spot on and will come back on a good day or if I'm around. Hear me out tho! If this was a fast food chain and lowered the prices this would be a banger because yea them prices are absurd for an egg sandwich. My chest low-key started hurting. Anyways, this joint hit dank review 7.9/10

Yelp
Fun themed restaurant. And it's whatever really I suddenly feel too lazy to write anything about the nice crunchy tots and delicious eggs sandwiches that came out fast

Yelp
If you are a fan of the Sanrio universe, you have to check out the Gudetama Cafe. When you enter you are stepping into the animated world of the laziest egg, Gudetama is a blended Japanese's word for Lazy and egg. The decor inside is so cool, various versions of the iconic character on the walls, ceiling, doors out side on the building, etc. there are many many photo opportunities as well as a red carpet style photo backdrop. The initial reviews I read were long wait times, up to 2-3 hours. That was not my experience. We went on a Saturday just after 5:30 pm. Had to wait in line for only about 15-20 minutes, so not bad at all. But I would look at peak times to avoid waiting longer. The staff was friendly, you would assume a place that brings an animated fantasy world to life would have a great staff and they were. The guy manning the door, was super friendly and helpful, brought us all water while in line and kept in moving along. They serve all things Egg themed with a little Gudetama face in the egg yolk, so cute. The food is excellent as well, a little more expensive, but not bad at all. The bun is a soft brioche bun, the egg is perfectly sunny side up and the Katsu chicken was crisp and lost at the same time. Comes with a side of tater tots as well. They have regular ketchup, spicy ketchup and spicy sauce for the sandwich as well as pretty spicy green sauce (I recommend the green sauce, so good). You must ask for the other sauces, they give ketchup by default. Themed restaurants can be fun, but if the food is expensive and not good, it makes the experience lack luster. So I was really happy when the food was soo good, made the experience. Go experience Gudetama's World, get some great photo opps and some great egg based food as well. Enjoy!

Yelp
I dropped by Gudetama Café mid-day on a random Sunday in July after the hype died down. There was a short line, but it was no longer than a 15 min wait. Once inside, the decor is pretty cute, but nothing mind boggling. Without the theming, the seating arrangement is similar to a HS cafeteria or a dorm mess hall. Most disappointingly though, the food options are not quite up to snuff to match the motif. I was expecting some more actual Japanese egg dishes, like omurice or tamago kake gohan, but instead was presented with 'Murican carnival food options like tater tots and sandwiches. The only "Japanese" item is katsu, but even that isn't up to Japanese standards. The fried egg has some seaweed strips placed on top to make the appearance of Gudetama, but that is the extent of the design element on the food. The drinks are decent, but nothing I would come specifically for, since there are plenty of other cafés with similar options or better in close proximity. The Sanrio paraphernalia is full price, and doesn't have any special Gudetama Café branding on the packaging, so if you buy some as gifts, you'll have to tell them, "Trust me, bro!" that you actually got it from there. Surprisingly, there is only a single restroom for such a large establishment, and it is already trashed. One saving grace is that the staff is SUPER nice. Recommendation: Don't make a special trip just to get here. Only drop by if you live nearby or are already in the area.

Yelp
The hype on this Cafe is atrocious. I came with a party of 6 to this venue around 11am and there was already a long wait line worth 2hrs (yes, there's a mark from where you stand on how long the waits going to be). Haiyaaahhh! I told myself this better be worth it. Soon as it was our turn, we were taken to our table. Orders are placed at the counter. Menus are pretty much variety of sandwiches and side orders. They also have dessert which is papa neared cream puff and chocolate something. We ordered: A(meh)zing Double Egg and Cheese, Whatever Avocado Toast, Lazy Bacon, Egg, and Cheese, and Tater Tots. Taste-wise, nothing really extraordinary. The sandwiches taste good. I personally like their Whatever Avocado Toast. I think it's the presentation of the food that actually makes it extraordinary especially to my teenagers. They also have merchandise on the side for these younglings to spend more. LOL. Price-wise, it's on the pricey side but as expected since it's Sanrio. In my opinion, not worth falling in line for over an hour and not worth for the prices. On a positive note, I like the fact that you don't have to rush to save your table or fear of getting your table take, hence, the wait. I don't remember if we had a time limit but it seemed everyone were mindful of their time. Is it worth the hype?? Definitely not, in my opinion. But for experience sake, why not. At least I get to say "been there, done that". Will I ever come back? Probably not.

Yelp
The two sandwiches I ate at this place was so tasty. The tater tots were fun too. The sauce complements the sandwiches.

Yelp
Both sandwiches were pretty good and cute with Gudetama face on the egg. Tater totes were too crispy or more over cooked. Service was nice but not passionate about working theme restaurant. Place was empty on a weekday evening. It was themed but beyond that, menu was minimal and would be great to expand. Worth a try for me.

Yelp
It's so cute in here!! Love all the little cutesy touches. And it's very instagrammable. The food was just ok and the drinks were actually not so tasty. And the prices seem very high for what you're getting. My nephew ordered the mango drink, he tasted it and was not feeling it. But tried to keep drinking it anyway. 10 minutes after we got our all food and drink they told him they ran out of something that's usually in that drink. Not sure why they didn't tell us when we ordered or when they handed it to him, we would have chosen something else.

Yelp
I have bookmarked this place for a while. Since we have some time to kill before lunch, we have decided to visit this place for a drink. I don't have high expectations of this place as I know it's a gimmicky spot mainly for the visual. We got there at 11:30am on a Monday afternoon. No line at all and we walked right in. There is a guy at the front to greet us. We ordered at the cashier like all fast food places and found a table to sit. 3 drinks plus a sandwich costs $38. Not too bad by cali pricing. The crème brûlée cold brew has zero sweetness as the brûlée top is minimal. If you are looking for a sweet drink, you should pass on that. The person who has the matcha drink likes it. Hubby got the sandwich. He said it's just a sandwich. Not bad but also not great either. We all enjoy the tater tots, it's the supermarket frozen kind. I am glad we have visited this place as it's a fun spot. But, I would not wait in line for this at all. While we were eating, we saw a short line forming outside. One of the staffs push a cart of bottled water outside. I hope she is offering free water to their waiting customers instead of charging them for it.

Yelp
Honestly, I didn't have high hopes for this place because it seemed more like an Instagramable place than a foodie place so I came in with low expectations. But was just not impressed with the cafe. It's definitely a one time try for me and that's enough. The decorations were cute and I got a few good pictures for memories, but the food wasn't good. I got the sliders and it wasn't amazing. The patty tasted like a McD patty, with a brioche bun. The slider was a little plain tasting and the Tator Tots was a little salty. Overall, I think it's just a fun experience, but will not be coming back.

Yelp
I visited the Gudetama Cafe in Buena Park and tried the Lazy Bacon Egg and Cheese kids meal, along with a Crème Brûlée cold brew and lemonade. The cold brew was excellent--just a little too strong for me, as I ended up feeling jittery! I also sampled the slider from the kids meal, which was surprisingly delicious, and the waffle fries were crispy and satisfying. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the Lazy Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwich as much; it was just okay compared to the slider. The service was good, and the cafe was clean and inviting. Overall, it was a fun experience! 4/5

Yelp
Gudetama Cafe is located in an outer storefront of the mall, with its own entrance. Since the mall doesn't have much going on for it, there is plenty of parking if you want to dine here. The cafe is spacious, cutely decorated as expected, and clean. I saw on Google that it still gets very busy when they open and through lunch time, so we went for dinner. At dinner time there was no wait and plenty of seats - it's definitely a good time to go check it out. We had the Gude Katsu sandwich, Sleepy Sliders and Sparkling Mango drink. The Gude Katsu was very good - the bun, egg, Katsu were all well made. I'd say my son's Sleepy Sliders had patties that were overcooked, but he really liked the fried mozzarella that was in there. The tater tots they came with were nice and crispy. The Sparkling Mango drink was tasty too. It's a simple menu, but the food is well done especially compared to some other themed cafes. It did take them a while to make our food, so I can see how the morning crowd can pile up quite easily.

Yelp
Visually a fun place. Like everyone else I went photo-crazy. But the exorbitant prices for subpar food makes it difficult to honestly rate any higher than I have. This great little cafe is located on the backside of the mall at Buena Park Downtown (where the now defunct Grange Hall food court used to be). The exterior is bold - you can't miss it - and the interior is full of wall paintings, statues, and videos of the Japanese lazy egg character named Gudetama (created by Sanrio). Even if you don't know the character you will be amused. As of this writing it is fairly new and often very busy with a line out the door but I came midafternoon on a weekday and there were only a couple people in line to order. The crew here are friendly and fast. The food, of course, is egg related. I ordered the egg-cellent sausage and cheese sandwich which came with tots. I also ordered a crème brûlée cold brew to drink and a chocolate lava cake (from Beard Papa) as a little dessert. I took a seat at one of the yellow tables. The seating capacity says 48 so there isn't a ton of seating inside but several tables were empty while I was there so no problem grabbing one. My number was called within a few minutes and I received my food and drink at the counter pick up area. The sandwich consisted of a sausage patty, American cheese, egg, and some mildly spicy sauce on a brioche bun. I thought it worse than a McDonald's breakfast sandwich. Lousy. The tots were fine but nothing to get excited over. The cold brew was pretty good; once you stir in the crispy-crunchy top into the coffee to sweeten it, it's quite tasty. The mini lava cake with the gooey chocolate center within the moist chocolate cake was by far the best thing and almost persuaded me to give 4 stars. But wow, the outrageous prices for low quality egg sandwiches. You're obviously paying theme park level dollars for the fun atmosphere. For me this was a one and done place just to say I've been there.

Yelp
Came here on a whim after sunday service nearby. Was super fun seeing all the cute gudetama statues and decorations! However, the windows are all kinda blocked off/covered so it felt kinda dark and gloomy inside, and it also felt pretty cramped with a lot of the tables really close to one another. Service was just okay, and the food took forever to come out. Food was cheeks to be honest. The katsu egg sando was bland and really tough, and my friend got the coffee with ice cream but couldn't drink it because it was so strong and bitter, even after she asked and added extra sweetener. Cool to see one time but i wouldn't come back nor recommend it to others.

Yelp
When I saw the ridiculously long line on tiktok and read about how crazy the wait was, I decided not to go even tho I love Gudetama lots. I was sure it would be months and months before I got to try it. I was out with a friend on a random Sunday, and we ran out of things to do. I was Yelping and realized that we were so close to this place. I decided to drop by to test my luck. Surprisingly, the line on Sunday was somewhat short. It took about 20 minutes to get in. We weren't that hungry, so I only ordered a Gude Katsu with tots to share. I also got their Sparkling Mango. I was a bit disappointed because the cutest part of the food was supposed to be the face on the egg, right?? The cute face was missing PSH!!! I do gotta say the Gude Katsu was delicious. I wasn't expecting it to be so tasty. The sparkling mango was also tasty. Very refreshing and not so sweet. The ordering and seating process was simple. They only allow a certain number of parties to enter to make sure they have enough tables. Right when you finish ordering, you will be able to find a table. Customer service was pretty good. Would definitely go again (only if the wait is short).

Yelp
1st time here ! My daughter has been waiting to come and finally had the chance too ! The wait was about 45min ! ( by the way you wait outside in this hot heat , but they do have umbrellas to have some shade ) It's a small cute place just to experience ! But not something I will highly recommend The food is made pretty fast and it's fresh. And the cuteness of the presentation is super cute ! I rate it a 4 just because the wait time Other than that big top props because the manager walked outside with a cart offering water bottles thought that was very thoughtful! You need to experience at leas

Yelp
The Gudetama Cafe is a cute themed cafe that centers around our favorite lazy egg! The whole restaurant is cute from the exterior to the inside. I knew it was going to be a visit that was mostly for the experience rather than the food, since I perused the menu ahead and saw that it was mostly basic breakfast sandwiches featuring eggs, of course. With my expectations tempered, I was pleasantly surprised to find the food pretty decent as wells as bring cute, with all of the sunny side up eggs showing Gudetama's face on them. All sandwiches come with a side of tater tots which were nice, hot, and crispy! I would say for $16 the themed breakfast sandwiches and tots were reasonably priced. Drinks were maybe a little expensive but they were decent, too. We got there 30 minutes before they opened on a Saturday morning, and that enabled us to get inside the cafe within 15 minutes after they opened doors. All of the staff were so friendly and we loved all the egg puna they made! The Gudetama Cafe was a fun experience with friends and I'm glad I went!

Yelp
I actually felt ok waiting 2 hours in line for this sandwich. Once you get into the cafe, the place is not overcrowded and you can comfortably enjoy the space and cute decor. An employee will assign you a table upon entry then you go to the counter to order your meal. We ordered 1 Bacon, Egg & Cheese sandwich, 1 Chicken Katsu sandwich, 1 mango milk drink. Each sandwich comes with tater tots. The absolute highlight are the Gudetama character faces on the egg yolk. It was the cutest meal I've ever had, and a plus is that it was actually tasty. The yolks were cooked just as I like them. I wish they had more merch available. You can purchase the employee t-shirt they have, which seemed to be the only customized "cafe" branded merch they have. The other items they were selling were generic Sanrio that you can find at other stores. I'd like to see a tote bag in the future! Overall, the experience was great. I don't want to dock points for the long line because it's expected. In the future, I would like to see them add more items to the menu, like dessert. Right now, the focus is on the sandwiches. They serve cream puffs from Beard Papa, but I would rather go to that outlet than wait in line for 2 hours for them. Customer service was a 10/10 and they also offer military discount on your purchase! Very happy stopping by the Gudetama Cafe!

Yelp
Cute ambiance and decor.. but definitely not worth an hour wait. The food is decent but not worth the $16-17. It's basically just a breakfast sandwich with tater totes. You're just paying for a cute smile on your sunny side up egg. Merchandise are basically things you can get on Amazon. If you're a gudetama fan, you might love it. However, if not, it's a good place to try at least once. Otherwise, I would wait until the lines die down before trying this place. The food is not worth an hour of waiting in the hot sun. Cute place and concept, though!
