Bottom line: Solid local steakhouse. Conscientious service, good wine, and decent steak. Cute outdoor seating that is heated. You must have the caramel flan!
We were able to walk in on a Friday night without reservations - though we were only a party of two - that likely wouldn't have worked with more people since it was pretty crowded.
Dinner: You choose a cut of steak and a preparation/sauce with it. My partner had the pepper steak, which come with a creamy sauce and blue cheese. I had the avocado jalapeño sauce. Both were good, though be warned that the pepper steak preparation is quite rich. All of the steak come with mashed potatoes. We also ordered the brussels with bacon and onions added - a must! The steak overall is good - mine was a little rarer than I would have expected for a medium, but it was good and I still ate it.
Dessert: The caramel flan is a lovely dessert, and I highly recommend it especially because it's not as common in the area. The dark chocolate mousse is also good as well!
Service: They have excellent service. The wine glass I had had a lipstick stain on it and they promptly changed it out and later gave me a complementary glass of wine (the Pinot on their menu is awesome!). Our waiter also gave us the chocolate mousse dessert on the house since we had been debating what to order and since we were some of the last customers there and they had one left, they let us try it. They really went above and beyond!
Why four stars? I try to rate restaurants based on their league (so we aren't comparing Pizza Hut to five star restaurants). Since Guerra is a steakhouse though, I'm comparing it to other steak houses, which tend to be pretty upscale. For a neighborhood steakhouse, it gets five stars but when compared to Ruth's Chris, Morton's, even Fogo de Chao, I think four stars is more appropriate, though it's a toss up because I really enjoyed it and will be back!
