Vegan cafe & market with pastries, tortas, coffee, & plants

"No shade to Skittles, but we could actually taste the rainbow at Guevara’s. Every one of the fresh vegetables (like avocado, red cabbage, tomato, and jalapeno) packed into their Cuban torta tastes like its life’s purpose is to express its individuality. The real MVP of this dish, however, is its juicy tomatoes. They’ve got the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness, and memorable flavor you can still taste even with everything happening on this loaded torta. Eating it on a Saturday morning has become one of the only true constants of summer for us." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, carlo mantuano
"From the pastel pink arches to the checkered flooring, eating lunch on Guevara’s patio feels like attending a party in Betsey Johnson’s backyard. It also helps that this Clinton Hill vegan restaurant hosts a live salsa band on weekends, when the neighbors come out and dance in the street." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, carlo mantuano
"This popping pink Clinton Hill cafe full of plants takes all things Cuban and makes them vegan - the vegan dulce de leche made with brown sugar instead of sweetened condensed milk, guava y queso pastel using oat milk butter and tofu cream cheese, and vegan queso pastries loaded with coconut cream are particularly great. Note: I fully recognize that some folks will deny the existence of a vegan dulce de leche, but they should try it before using fighting words. Guevara’s also has rainbow-hued conchas, savory empanadas, coconut ceviche tostadas, and vegan chilaquiles. Don’t skip out on the dairy-free Cuban coffee either, like the oat milk cafe con leche and their non-Cuban, but just as delightful, seasonal beverages like the rose and halvah latte." - marisel salazar
"If the weather cooperates, this great new vegan Cuban cafe in Clinton Hill is hosting a live band and dancing on the sidewalk from 1pm-4pm on Saturday, May 1st. While you’re there, get the torta milanesa, which comes stacked high with avocado, purple cabbage slaw, beans, tomato, jalapeno, and a crunchy slab of eggplant cutlet. Plus, nothing on the menu costs more than $10." - hannah albertine
"The sister vegan café (which first opened in 2020) has closed its Clinton Hill outpost while both brands remain open at secondary locations in Williamsburg’s Domino Park; Guevara’s was known for a colorful vegan torta with purple cabbage, meat-free empanadas, and an attractive outdoor dining setup that made it a pandemic-era go-to.
