Gufo - Review - Inman Square - Boston - The Infatuation

"If you find yourself longing to break out of the work-from-home routine, Gufo, from the team behind SRV, Salty Pig, and Baelia, is a great excuse to put on real pants. The expansive space has two dining areas, and a cheery, pink horseshoe bar canopied with plants. The restaurant is (rightfully) well-known for their wood-fired pizzas and fresh pastas—a classic margherita pie, and squid ink bucatini with baby clams and spicy ‘nduja butter are favorites for dinner with friends—but here’s the thing: we love a midday, midweek table for one. Get the turkey sandwich stuffed with cherry peppers, bacon, and provolone, or the dill-and lemon-spiked snap pea caesar, plus a savory Beauregarde spritz, and enjoy a leisurely working lunch. Open from 11am on weekdays, it’s totally acceptable to bring your laptop, linger with an espresso, and plot your return for weekend brunch or a dinner of shareable small plates." - Catherine Smart

Boston’s Best Pizza

"The screaming hot pizza oven at Gufo, the modern Italian restaurant which opened last summer, makes for delightful, crisp-edged pies. A standout includes the broccoli rabe, with tomato, mozzarella, white anchovy and ground prosciutto. The pepperoni punches up the flavor, too, by swapping in vodka sauce for the usual red sauce, and adding buttery Castelvetrano olives. Savor the slices in the chill, funky atmosphere where you can also hit up the bocce court in the back, when the weather cooperates." - Nathan Tavares, Tommy Ranucci, Eater Staff

Get In the Holiday Spirit at These Pop-Up Bars Around Boston

"In Cambridge, Italian newcomer Gufo is starting off its first winter season strong by decking out its enclosed, heated outdoor patio to resemble a ‘70s-inspired ski lodge in the Italian Alps. Sip seasonal cocktails (both hot and cold), regional Italian wines, beer, or espresso drinks in the cozy setting while grazing on festive cookie platters, traditional Panettone (an Italian Christmas sweet bread), and dinner plates like baked gnocchi and an alpine pizza with prosciutto crema, potatoes, fontina, and rosemary. The pop-up is accepting walk-ins from Friday through Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m. It opens on December 1 and runs through December 31." - Erika Adams

Nice local pizza spot, plenty of space for large parties, good outside patio, nice bar. Very laid back atmosphere, easy going service 😁. Good food. My favorite was pizza with mushrooms. We also had their appetizer platter with all 6 of them and they are good, meatballs are good as well. Nice pasta selection, we tried three of them and they were all good. My list favorite was actually beans in the octopus dish, the octopus was great, but the beans were hard to eat.

Good food and very friendly staff. Lively atmosphere and prices were pretty decent. Would recommend the eggplant dip. The cheese with orange jam was also pretty good. N’duja pizza is recommended too. The toppings were good but I believe the base could be a little thicker. The Margherita was average. The pastas are good too. I recently started enjoying olive oil cake and their cake is a must try.

Service is fantastic. Food was good. Arancini balls were a little small and we’re better elsewhere with other types of filling. The meatballs were good as well, but again, portions were very small compared to many other places. Pastas were good. A good spot for a date or bite, but maybe not worth it if you are really hungry.

One of my favorite restaurants in the Boston area! I’ve tried mostly everything on their menu - my favorites are the chicken Milanese, rigatoni, mushroom pasta, eggplant caponata, snap pea salad, and basil panna cotta. Flavors and textures for these dishes are all on point. Service is incredible all 4 times I’ve been this summer. Definitely a must go!!

Google
Lively restaurant for any occasion. While the place was busy on a Tuesday evening, we were immediately able to sit at the bar for dinner. I got the squid ink bucatini, and it was fabulous. The taste of the dish itself and the texture of the pasta was perfect. There are cute personal touches in the restaurant too. Will be back anytime I’m in Boston!

Google
Great elegant place with an open display kitchen. Enjoyed the caponata and arancini to start. Nice small portions to share. Excellent flavor and texture with both. I finished with the grilled Octopus once again great flavor octopus was not over cooked. Salsa verde was creamy, a nice take. Delish in a big way

We got there around 3 pm after running around bow market area for 30 min and fail to get parking spot. Their pizza is really good. The dough is really on the point for me. We ordered peporonata and it is a really good white sauce pizza. The cocktail list is also really good. They open from brunch time to dinner. Stopping by to cool down ourselves from busy area is kind of surprising finding for me and I would definitely stop by again to try their dinner menu.

The food was great! I got the red cabbage Caesar, arancini, pasta and chicken. It was all really good. The mocktails were fun and refreshing.

Yelp
Amazing pizza here - go for the peperonata, and the vodka sauce one - plus a good drink selection

Yelp
Had dinner with a friend here for his birthday and the food, service, and ambiance were lovely. Parking on a weekday night on the street was fairly easy. We had the cacio e pepe arancini, red gem fennel citrus salad, red pepper pesto malfadine, mushroom pizza with meyer lemon and fontina, and basil caramel panna cotta. Of these my favorites were the salad and the panna cotta - the salad greens were so fresh and had nice textures, and the onion dressing coated everything well. The panna cotta was a light bite with herbal and sweet notes, and the crunchy topping was fun. For the mains, the pizza was pretty big - thinner crust but sturdy. I liked the meyer lemon balance to the earthy mushrooms. The malfadine pasta was small, cooked perfectly al dente and the flavor was a bit more tangy than expected. While there wasn't a dish that wowed me, all of them were prepared well with high quality ingredients. The staff were wonderful and the service was attentive and friendly. They brought out soft serve with a candle for my friend's birthday which was a really nice touch. Nice ambiance with soft lighting that wasn't too dark, and decent acoustics that made it easy to have a conversation. Overall had a nice experience here, and found the pricing to be quite reasonable - would return to try more things in the future!

Yelp
Preface: We dined at Gufo on a Thursday evening for a family dinner prior to our wedding weekend (reserved a month in advance). We did our due diligence of calling hours before our arrival and giving Ryan (FOH Mgr.) info about the occasion and preferred service so that FOH wasn't met with any surprise. I had also made it clear that some of the family hadn't met each other before so guests would arrive 15 minutes early to get acquainted at the bar prior to seating. Upon arrival FOH staff were warm and welcoming, showing us where the table would be. However, shortly after that things began to sour quickly -- I had made a polite request if we could have the adjacent table for warmer lighting as the dining room is flooded with harsh white light from the kitchen. The request was met with awkward hostility from the host as if I had asked something so foreign. They declined to accommodate which was okay, but once again it was a hostile response with no eye contact. Guests began to arrive to get acquainted at the bar (as expected). Before they even got to the bar, FOH staff was telling me our table was ready 20 minutes before the scheduled seating so I repeated the instruction gave over the phone hours prior that we're getting acquainted and will sit for service shortly. And yet AGAIN.. I was met with a hostile "Understood sir, but we have a lot of people walking through here" when we were right next to our table and both sides of the bar had very open channels of access. 5-10 minutes later we sat for dinner. I had preordered some pizza and snacks for grazing and a few bottles of wine for the table. The wine list is a chaotic list of italian wines (which many have no familiarity with) with no description beyond vintage and region. The apps and pizza came out timely, but wine service took about 20 minutes. Our server was lovely but I was floored that they had one server working a 14-top that was clearly a special occasion. Wine service was non-existent for all of dinner likely because of that. They didn't keep track of empty bottles/take the opportunity to offer more wine -- everything had to be requested. Main course came out timely and everyone's plates came out at the same time which was great. The pasta and large plates were okay and plated well with nice aesthetic -- but the flavor was nothing to write home about. I ordered the boar shank with cherry agrodolce, pistachio dukka, and chickpea polenta. It tasted like the shank was sous vide with nothing to infuse flavor, there was zero evidence in flavor that cherry was even an ingredient, and the chickpea polenta was dry and lukewarm. The pastas around the table looked okay and it's evident they care about the seasonally rotating agnolotti dish. My conclusion is that Gufo is yet another mediocre addition to greater Boston's collection of eateries owned by large restaurant groups that try too hard to be trendy and forget to invest resources into the service and flavor. It's apparent that Gufo's business is propped up by the sheer luck (or payment) of being mentioned in Eater and Time Out's articles as I never hear anybody describe it beyond "OK". We too thought it was OK.

Yelp
Loved the pizza here. Really good flavors. Good crunchy crust. Also got the meatballs appetizer which was tasty as well. Wasn't quite exceptional -- the interior was nice but there is this weird dead cafe you enter at which makes the restaurant look abandoned. Service was good though they were out of chili oil :( Overall I think the pizza here is great and worth the price.

Yelp
This place is beautiful. I came here for a Saturday brunch. They have lots of drink options, tasty pizzas, and a few sandwiches. I want to go back and try more pizzas and maybe their dinner menu. The staff were really patient as we had to keep ordering more food and drinks as certain friends were late and still needed to order. They also let us bring in a cake for our friend's birthday!

Yelp
I feel compelled to write a review as a public service. I dined here with a group of friends while I was in town. Food was good, I thought. However, at the end of the meal, I got up to use the restroom and as I was walking over a mouse ran under a booth. I let a waiter know and he looked concerned, but didn't actually do anything--just went back to what he was doing. Then, as we were paying the check and wrapping up our conversations, a friend at the table pointed out 2 more. As we got up to leave, there had to be 6-8 mice running around. We pointed it out to the staff again, and their response was "we put traps out, but it's cold out, so they come inside...it's normal." WHAT??? I have worked in restaurants in Boston and other cities, even during cold winters, and I can promise you, 6-8 mice running around during someone's meal is not normal and not OK. I feel bad and don't want to damage someone's business, and I would not be writing this review if I had just seen one and the staff had done anything at all to respond. But seeing so many, and the staff saying it's normal is really troubling--I can only imagine the unsanitary things happening that I didn't see.

Yelp
Had a wonderful brunch experience here on a Saturday! I was the first in my party to arrive and they seated me without having to wait which was nice. The dining room decor is super cute (think: comfy, cushioned chairs, cute leafy accents, and lots of natural lighting), and the brunch options are unique and delicious. I got the oyster mushrooms and egg dish, which was flavorful and filling. The portion size was perfect and the price was reasonable ($18). I also got a matcha tea ($5), which my server helped me request instead of the matcha latte. One point to note was that there were several different servers and bussers attending to our table the whole time, which was confusing since they would sometimes ask to take our order or clear our table after someone else already did. Overall, they were very attentive though, which was nice. I would definitely come back again to try some more of their menu options!

Yelp
Dope spot. Everything we tried was delicious and would like to eventually have the whole menu. Eggplant caponata whipped ricotta was great, meatballs were awesome (I think there were some bits of pancetta in sauce Yumm!!), and the vodka pepperoni pie was so so solid. Great food, good vibes, can't wrong.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint! Snap pea Caesar - never had a Caesar salad with snap peas so it was unique. I loved the added crunch from the snap peas. Some pieces of the snap peas were a little dry though. Roasted mushroom, gremolata, Meyer lemon, fontina - this pizza is on my list of top favorite pizzas. I loved the mushroom, fontina, and Meyer lemon combination of flavors. The crust was super crispy. The pizza flopped a little when it was hot but once it cooled down, it held its shape.

Yelp
Delicious! Went here for date night and got 4 snacks and some cocktails. Weirdly not busy for a Saturday but was so amazing- kind of a hidden gem. Pizza was amazing and will def be getting it for takeout sometime. Cocktails are fairly priced and yummy!

Yelp
Wow! My husband and I were so impressed. I got the gem salad (hazelnut orange fennel blue cheese) and AMAZING kale pizza with provolone, garlic, lemon and balsamic drizzle for dinner. He enjoyed the meatballs and Rotolo with spinach ricotta and vodka sauce. I love that they have mocktails & non alcoholic beer and a nice ambiance with wood & plants everywhere. My husband also enjoyed the chocolate cake with hazelnut cream. I was happy to see they serve Mem tea and Broadsheet coffee too. Our server, Hannah was very understanding of my food allergies and knowledgeable about the menu, but double checked with the kitchen about how they could accommodate for me (ie: vegetarian sauce on pasta etc). They have a seasonal rotating menu of fresh pastas as well. The only thing I would note for next time is that there was no spacing at all between our first and second course so we wouldn't order everything all at once again. We will definitely be adding this to our Italian dinner rotation!

Yelp
Back again this weekend, this time for a birthday celebration. Gufo set up their outside patio for about 40 or 50 people. We started with drinks (wine, beer, etc.) and passed hors d'ouevres, including the most delicious meatballs imaginable. Shout-out to the bartender and staff for hooking me up with my favorite Brazilian drink, a caipirinha. After socializing for a bit we sat down to a menu of heirloom tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, chicken milanese, basil campanelle (crab, lemon, chili and pine nut), and squid ink creste di gallo (baby clams, spicy 'nduja butter, and lemon). Everything was delicious, although a little of the squid ink delicacy went a long way for this pallet. A dessert platter topped off the meal, with sea salt chocolate chip cookies, a cream-stuffed pastry and a cupcake-like icing pastry. Everything was beautifully arranged and the staff took such good care of us, inquiring about allergies before serving our delicious meal. Gufo once again rises to the occasion.

Yelp
My friends and I decided to give Gufo a try for brunch, and HONESTLY, I'm so impressed! I'm not really a huge pizza or brunch person, but this place might have changed my mind. The ambiance is simply stunning, and the staff is incredibly sweet. My friend and I split the Fennel Sausage Pizza. I think hot sauce or hot honey would've really elevated the flavors, but it was still pretty good! If you're a thin-crust girly like myself, you'll appreciate Gufo's crispy pizza crust - they always pass that pizza flop test! Whenever I go to a brunch spot, I always make sure I try their eggs benedict (it's a rite of passage). The eggs benedict was cooked to perfection with a delightful runny yolk. I also appreciated the side of potatoes that accompanied the dish. It was crispy and well-seasoned. This is a MUST-TRY dish if you visit for brunch! For dessert, I had a dirty chai latte. Gufo doubles as a cafe, and they've perfected it. This was one of the best dirty chai's I've had in awhile. There was a perfect balance of cream, chai, and espresso. If you haven't tried their cafe yet, I highly recommend it. It's easily become one of my favorite cafes in the Cambridge/Somerville area.

Yelp
This place is super cute and the service here was great! I got a drink which was ok, I just thought it'd be fruitier. The cacio Pepe arancini were divine and I would definitely get them again. We also ordered the mafaldine pasta and cappellacci which were both so good. The capellacci was kind of sweet to me but I still enjoyed it. The margherita pizza was also great, no complaints. Overall it was an amazing dinner and I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
I have made special trips from NYC to dine at Gufo, four times in the past six months to be specific. This place is unparalleled when it comes to fantastic Italian food and top tier service. I am obsessed with their mushroom, roasted garlic pizza, which comes out so crispy and airy and has a great balance of earthy flavors from the beech brown mushrooms and aromatic notes from the whole cloves of garlic and spring onions. Their squid ink bucatini was also a hit, so incredibly flavorful with generous portions of seafood, the sauce is made with pork butter, but can be made without pork, you will not find anything like this anywhere. Their vegetarian pasta -- spinach + ricotta rotolo, was delicious resembling a cast iron lasagna, and deceptively filling. Also highly recommend the shrimp, brussels, and charred mushroom plate, all are so flavorful and great/unique tapas shares that complement each other. Definitely recommend the apple or pear crostata and frozen yogurt for dessert. The servers ensure that you have a wonderful experience, they keep glasses filled and also had a lot of respect for the manager who runs food to tables and interacts with guests alongside his staff. This place gets packed on Friday and weekend nights for dinner service between 6 and 8:30, be sure to make a reservation ahead! Will definitely be back to try their brunch menu next.

Yelp
Came to Gufo for brunch on a Saturday. There's a cafe-style seating area up front (for casual dining), and a more traditional dine-in area in the back. Food: We opted for the bread pudding french toast with currant jam, maple syrup, and sweet cream. This was AMAZING. The french toast was perfectly crispy on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside. The flavor profile of bread pudding incorporated into french toast is such a unique concept, and we could come again just for this dish. Definitely a must-order if you come here. For the pizza, we ordered two flavors on each half (for no additional charge!). This was a great option since we had difficulty deciding which pizza to order. We had half a breakfast pizza and half of the roasted mushroom pizza. We also added fennel sausage to the whole pizza for an additional $3, which I would highly recommend as it gave more flavor and depth to the overall dish. Their pizza crust was light and crispy. There was no wait as we arrived close to opening, but it got busy quickly! So make sure to have reservations or come early. There's street parking nearby and service was great.

Yelp
Food here is quite the experience. The dishes that they serve are all share friendly and you sure as hell want to so you can get a taste for it all! The focaccia was super soft and chewy while their take on Arancini was to die for. Service was super attentive and kind spoken. You def want to also get your camera ready at the restaurant was cute and picture ready!

Yelp
We came at 3 ish on a Sunday without reservation and were able to immediately sit at the bar. The dinner service hadn't started yet but we were able to order pizza and drinks. We ordered the dandelion greens pizza which was okay. The bartender was friendly and checked in on us. Inside has an earthy, fresh vibe with a terracotta theme at the bar, plenty of plants, and spacious interior. I'd definitely come back to try the pasta and other foods. There is even more seating not pictured near the entrance. From start to finish, everyone was kind - not just hospitable.

Yelp
Awesome experience at Gufo! We were able to be seated quickly in their covered outdoor area without a reservation on a Friday night, complete with fans so it was never too hot! You could see right into the prep area for the pizzas and the amazing fired pizza oven! Ordered the fennel sausage pizza and the corn pizza along with the taleggio blueberry cheese snack with complimentary focaccia. The food was awesome. Great flavors, well cooked. I really enjoyed the pizza, being from NJ it's hard to find good pizza out here and this was definitely worthy of a return visit.
google avatar

Carlotta C.

Yelp
This is my new favorite and go-to restaurant in the Boston area. First you're greeted by the friendliest staff upon arrival, along with the most delicious scent from the pizza oven and then you get seated in a beautiful aesthetic room. Our waitress Torey W went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. We ordered the taleggio with fermented blueberrry honey as a snack, along with the meatballs. Appetizers come served with focaccia, which is the most similar to the traditional Ligurian focaccia I have had. The taleggio was creamy and deeply flavored which was so well balanced by the blueberry honey. This was my second time so I ordered the mafaldine pesto that I loved the first time. When the pasta came, I noticed it was rather cold, probably because they were trying to time it coming out with the pizza which comes from another kitchen. I felt so bad about it but I mentioned it to Torey W who gracefully offered to make me another one. Though I felt bad because I know it's a busy night I appreciated the effort the restaurant put into ensuring I had the best experience - and I did! The mafaldine were al dente which provided the perfect bite with the Smokey peppery red pesto sauce. The pizzas demonstrated clear craftsmanship and knowledge of taste. Torey W ended up bringing us a sample of all 3 desserts on the menu as an apology for my cold pasta and wow - I still can't decide which one was my favorite, though the soft serve was perfection.

Yelp
chicken sausage pizza was wayy too salty for my liking but the bottom crust was decently thin. the pepperonata pizza tasted better

Yelp
One of the best meals i've had in a while. Even though there was one dish I think could have been better with a little spice or chili oil, the food was really delicios. The service was EXCEPTIONAL. With an egg allergy it can be very difficult to eat at an Italian restaurant but our server was incredibly attentive and helpful in curating a perfect night at Gufo. The mafaldine puttanesca is vegan and honestly out of this world. The flavors work so well together and the dish has a slight spice. In addition to the pasta we ordered the grilled mushrooms and the roasted mushroom pizza. Both were flavorful and delicious. The pizza could use a little spice to elevate the flavor but besides that exceptional.

Nitasha K.

Yelp
Came here a few weeks ago for dinner. The vibe was intimate, modern, casual and the service was good. We enjoyed the eggplant caponata, mushroom pizza, and rigatoni bolognese dishes. We had the pizza served with a hot spicy oil which was delicious and the rigatoni was unique in that it wasn't too tomato forward. Would likely come back!

Yelp
Great service. Great food and amazing drinks! A cute vibe and a nice atmosphere. The price point was very reasonable for the level of food quality!

Yelp
I liked SRV (sister restaurant) but Gufo was even better! The eggplant caponata was yum and a steal at $6. Can get free refill of focaccia. I had the rabbit gnocchi for my main: the rabbit was so tender and the gnocchi was perfectly chewy. I think this is not on the menu anymore but you probably can't go wrong with any of their pasta options. Even though I was hungry coming into the meal, the portions are big and I had to take some to go. Great service and very cute owl decor in the bathrooms :).

Yelp
Had a nice experience here on a recent evening. Was able to make a reservation online, and even though I had picked the dining room, we were able to have a seat on the covered patio. the menu has multiple vegetarian options (always a perk). We ordered the Romanesco with romesco sauce as an appetizer - it was really flavorful and well cooked. I had the mafaldine pasta, which had a great tomato sauce but was a little on the salty side. Another friend had the spinach Rotolo, which she said it was delicious, but had a lot of cheese. The service did take a little bit of time at every step, from placing our initial orders to getting the final check. On the plus side, the food came out quickly. Great ambience - we would come back if in the area.

Scott B.

Yelp
We ordered the grilled octopus and the sauce/puree on the side left a horrible aftertaste in our mouth. I would avoid that. The pasta with pine nuts was extremely acidic and too much. I think this highlights a larger theme here. They are trying to be innovative with Italian cuisine and it is just not working. This is our 3rd time giving this restaurant a shot. I would avoid.

Yelp
4.5 stars! The service was great and the setting was really nice. We got the cucumber starter, snap pea Caesar salad, cacio e Pepe arancini, squid ink pasta with oyster, mushroom pizza margarita pizza with pepperoni, olive oil cake and chocolate torta. The pizzas were really good, some of the better pizza I've had around Boston. The clams were really tasty although I wish there was a little more. A really great place to check out!

Yelp
When I heard about this place, I immediately wanted to try it! Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles and open arms. I quickly noticed the restaurant's beautiful design and the awesome wall paper (check out the bathrooms!). We were sat at lovely two seater. The server came quickly to offer us water and welcome us. They explained the different sections of the menu and seemed excited and happy to be here. Next, they gave us awesome tips about the drinks. And we were able to taste the wine before placing an order. We also had house focaccia. I ordered the half chicken, and my friend ordered the Mafaldine pasta. Both of our dishes were a bit too salty for our tastes. We shared a mushroom pizza and added pepperoni to my side; it was perfect! For desert we ordered the olive oil cake with peaches. And it was divine! Wish I could have had seconds. Overall, we really appreciated the great service and tasty food. I cannot wait to come back to try another pizza and the soft serve ice cream. Thank you for a memorable experience!

Yelp
Stellar dinner at Gufo. The place was bustling on a Thursday night. Plenty of dates and friend gatherings - everyone was jovial! We thoroughly enjoyed our food. My sister raves about the gluten free pasta options! Our server Alex was so sweet and a pleasure to interact with!

Yelp
A spectacular time. I have been here twice - once during the day during the cafe and then once in the evening for dinner. Would definitely recommend getting a reservation for dinner although it did appear that they saved some seating for walk-ins. Cafe: Great! They have a nice espresso machine, an array of pastries. Dinner: Awesome awesome awesome selection of authentic (at least to me) Italian dishes that I was less familiar with. For appetizers, I really liked the la tur with honey and surprisingly preferred it over the eggplant caponata with whipped ricotta (ricotta was very whipped hah). For plates, the porchetta (aka pork roast) was scrumptious and sprinkled with of an ideal amount of pork fat. For pasta, chestnut agnolotti was more of a smooth texture without an overwhelming flavor profile to appreciate the high-quality pasta! Dessert/Drinks: Solid cocktails. Creative! The post-dinner dessert amaro list (Italian liqeur) was quite overwhelming until the bartender offered a mini tasting of 3 different types for us. Perfect way to tie up a delectable meal with a well-curated dessert (a pie? i think with vanilla ice cream) though the olive oil cake sounded quite tempting... Atmosphere: Large restaurant with a bunch of owl decor? Apparently gufo means owl in Italian. I appreciate the eccentricity and bolder design approach they took with some monochrome aesthetics and an open concept with big street-facing windows. At least while I was there on a near-packed (~80%) busy night, it was not overwhelmingly loud but definitely not quiet. There was a large table of approximately 12 or so near by. When there is better weather, I definitely recommend checking out their large back patio area!! Service: As I mentioned above, the bartender went above and beyond with the mini-tasting of Amaro and also explained what many of the dishes were! Definitely high-quality service. In sum, this is a mix of genuine italian with modern cuisine. I will 1000% be back. I already know next time will include an order of the fried dough with prosciutto appetizer and a pizza (decent size, I was envious of the party next to us...). I should comment on price of course - not cheap at all but actually not bad??? Especially when I consider the alternative of a similar meal experience in the North or South End or a trendy spot in Cambridge, I expected a higher bill -- I STRONGLY recommend trying out this new spot!!!

Yelp
My cousin found this restaurant on TikTok. Usually social media can overhype a restaurant but we all agreed this was worth the hype. The aesthetic video matched the quality of the food. Gufo easily made it to our top brunches in the Cambridge area. Every dish we got were delicious. We have minor feedback for the drinks but had zero complaints about the food. Breakfast pizza 5/5: Hands down the best breakfast pizza ever. The toppings combination was unique and so tasty. I didn't realize how much I would love potatoes on pizza until I tried it here. The caramelized onions added some sweetness while it was balanced with the saltiness from the bacon. The pizza was light so it was easy to pulled from. The crust was crispy and not too charred. Still dreaming about this pizza and need to come back. Soft scrambled eggs with fried potatoes, bacon, and focaccia toast 4.5/5: All simple ingredients cooked separately but came together really well. There are various flavors and textures from the 4 items. My cousin loved the soft scrambled eggs and thought it was very well cooked. I loved the potatoes so much - soft and flavorful. Bread pudding french toast with currant jam, maple syrup, and sweet cream 5/5: This will satisfy your sweet tooth! This isn't just your normal french toast. It is a premium french toast with mixed textures from the currant jam. I also love the sweet cream that came with it. Drinks - I enjoyed my cappuccino very much and thought it went well with the french toast. My cousins did not enjoy their drinks as much. As shown in the photo, the size of the orange juice was tiny compared to the regular glass of water. At first I thought it was a shot of orange juice. The orange juice should have been in a regular sized glass. The matcha latte lacked the matcha flavor. Service was great! The waitress was nice and attentive and refilled our waters. Hostess was accommodating on the reservation time as well. There is street parking right outside. We got pretty lucky on a Saturday morning and only had to walk 2 mins. The interior was aesthetically pleasing with the plants and modern furnitures.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and was so excited to finally have a great go to bar with good food and wine. I've been many times and the thing that's consistently missing is a good "bar side" manner. The two guys at the bar are like grumpy robots. Take your order and pour your wine. No smile, no how are you tonight, no "hey, welcome back." It's the bartenders charm that makes it fun to sit at the bar. I'm not looking to be entertained, just approached in a friendly, humanistic manner that's deserving of the tip. The table servers have the right approach, especially Emily. Super friendly, recommended wine and dishes...the one deserving of a big tip. She could teach a master class in "charm school 101" to their bartenders. That said, this place has great food and the pizza is amazing.

Yelp
Some modern Italian fare that's not bold or adventurous, but actually does have fresh ingredients and something different to offer compared to other restaurants in the area. The Chestnut angoletti felt hearty like meat, yet it was all vegetables. The brown butter and apples were divine. So creamy in the middle. Paired with my cocktail, it was basically a warm apple pie! The broccoli Caesar was simple, but damn if it wasn't good! The broccoli was super fresh, had an amazing texture, and made me wish I could eat broccoli like this at home! The dressing was just the right amount, along with the crispy bread crumbs thrown in the mix. It's shocking how much I still think about that salad! The rigatoni Bolognese was fancy chili mac. The noodles were good, but it's the meat sauce that was the best part. This was a fairly straight forward dish, but it's still a solid choice. The eggplant caponata spread and ricotta with focaccia was dense in flavor while still being plenty creamy. The foccacia was excellent in its spongy, bready goodness. If you get fuill easily, be careful with this dish. The Potato gnocchi with rabbit was my least favorite dish. The most lackluster of everything I tried. The rabbit came off more like dark meat from chicken. The gnocchi was a great texture, but the flavor all around was a subdued chicken and dumplings. Its not bad, but its not at the same level of flavor as everything else I tried. The shaken two cocktail was a autumn apple delight! The clarified milk was an excellent mouth feel, along with the apple and cinnamon flavors. How's well with anything you order, but specific the chestnut agnolotti

Yelp
I got the vodka pepperoni pizza and it was delicious! Perfect amount of spice and sauce, my only wish is that they would sell bigger pies.

Yelp
Came here for a bday dinner w/ my significant other and had a very pleasant and tasteful meal We got a 7:15 reservation on a Weds and wasn't expecting it to have a busy weekday service, but my surprise the entire restaurant was pretty packed (which is always a good sign ). Our very friendly server recommended me a crisp Prestiosa white wine which paired well with my fabulous squid ink bucatini. I would've liked more clams but what can ya do For our apps, we got the broccoli caesar salad (bright and flavorful), meatballs (incredibly rich sauce), and the artichoke spread with toast (pretty gouda). We also shared a pizza with bits of prosciutto and potatoes which originally I thought was an head-scratching combo but turned out to be surprisingly delicious. I loved the owl imagery throughout the place (gufo means owl in italian) and the greenery/wooden texture made the dining area feel more warm and inviting. I would love to come back again and test out their other pizzas! Potato pizza really opened my imagination to the possibilities of other unconventional pizza toppings.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go here for a while and finally made it out! It did not fall short of expectations- the dishes were delicious and I'd say reasonably priced for the vibe they are going for! I'm sad they took the snap pea Caesar off the menu (seasonal!?), but the broccoli Caesar salad was delicious- the dill flavor really pulled it all together. They rotate dishes often by season which I like! All of the appetizers and small bites were good. I will say, the appetizers were yummy but not memorable as the entree. The chestnut agnolotti with apple, cabbage, sage, brown butter, and truffle was incredible, all the ingredients really stood out and complimented each other. I always have a hard time loving a pasta dish, but this one was gooood. Our server was very nice and gave us great suggestions when we had a hard time choosing. I want to come back next time trying more appetizers and hopefully feel more strongly about those. Still a 5/5 because it was a solid dinner!

Yelp
Moved into Boston from Manhattan and Miami so I guess I should be a good judge of food, service and ambiance. Upon entering we were greeted by big smiles, and Dan the mgr. came over to us an greeted us on this rainy New England night. All wait staff in clean uniforms . Very quick service, but no rush after food arrived. Hot bar , with all seats always full. Many having dinner at the bar, great for single guests. So Wahoooo to Gufo !

Yelp
Incredible brunch place. I went the weekend it opened and wow was the experience good. Service was fast and full of great suggestions. Very modern and fresh ambiance. And the food was delicious. Very few places pull off breakfast pizza in my honest opinion but this place makes it a must get on the menu. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
I've driven by Gufo many times, and finally, I was able to stop in! It is located on Cambridge Street, pretty spacious, and it seems like in the summer they allow for outdoor seating. Went on a Friday night without reservations, and the place was pretty packed, but we were able to find 3 open seats at the bar. I did notice reserved signs placed on bar seats, which I have never seen before, but it must be that busy that they allow for that. The bar was cozy and comfortable. The kitchen was pumping out amazing food it all looked delicious passing by. For an appetizer, we went with the cacio e pepe arancini. These crispy balls were absolutely delicious. I wish we had more!! They were crunchy, but once you took a bite the inside was creamy and smooth. For my meal I went with the mushroom pizza. This pizza was one of the best in the area! The pizza had roasted whole garlic cloves, spinach, mushrooms, and a savory cheese blend. The crust was light and thin but not too firm. I loved this pizza so much I'd definitely come back and try another flavor combo!

Yelp
I came here a while ago when they first opened and ordered a few pastas, head on shrimp and mushroom dish. I left feeling slightly disappointed with the food so I hesitated coming back. However, a friend raved about their pizzas and how we should give them another shot and they were not wrong. Their pizzas as some of the best in the city! We had the pepperoni vodka and spigarello kale with lemon cream, provolone, fried garlic + chili, and balsamic. Both pizzas were fantastic, portions were large for the prices and very very flavorful and they don't skimp on the sauce + toppings. Definitely will come back for their pizzas!

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED this restaurant just a couple blocks away from kendall square! We chose to come here last minute for dinner and were so surprised at how delicious and unique their food was. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed chatting with our bartender, and tried all of her recommendations. The pasta we got wasn't the most saucy, but instead was super light and tasted like a well balanced meal! I felt like I could eat so much of this without feeling guilty or getting sick of it because of how perfectly the flavors meshed together; not too salty/sweet/savoury but a perfect blend. We also tried their pizza, which was thin crusted and very crunchy/crispy, just what I like! The toppings were thin, but I didn't feel like it was missing anything, it was ~perfect~. For dessert, we tried their rhubarb pie-like dish, it was the perfect one to end on! The filling was tart and the crust and fluffy/cripsy/sweet. The dollops of lemon cream also had a candied mint leaf on them which I had never seen before, they were so delicious!! After trying these three dishes, I'm so excited to come back and try more. Highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area, their space is pretty large and it seemed like they had outdoor seating too for when it gets warmer.

Yelp
One of my new favorite spots in Cambridge. Have been twice, both times for dinner. There are not a lot of places in the Boston area where I've left remembering the amazing service- Gufo was not one of them. Service was outstanding. Great recommendations from the staff and took into account our preferences when giving them. I've tried both the pizza and pasta here and have been impressed. One pizza is large enough to share between two people but we got more than one because we could not pick one to try! Fried dough appetizer was very good as well. Ambiance for dinner is nice and would love to come back to try brunch or breakfast in the cafe area. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Delicious date night here! Took a while for me to realize this restaurant is in the spot of what used to be Loyal Nine! The space is still really cute - I kind of wished we got to be seated in the main dining room instead of the tented patio - which was fine but the ambiance was much cooler in the main room. The food was very yummy, cool takes on Italian dishes, and refreshing cocktails. Our waiter was kind and attentive. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is just that it didn't WOW me per se, but everything was solid!

Yelp
(Please see my most recent update on the bottom of this review) The food was amazing here and it was a unique menu. I really liked the green tea mocktail that I got as well. The ambiance was also very nice and warm and welcoming. However, our waiter Patrick O. (a Caucasian bald man) barely spoke to us except to take our order my four friends and I dined here. He threw the dessert menu on our table and never asked us how our food was or checked on us/refilled our water throughout our dinner. To top it off, he took 20 minutes to pick up the check after he gave us the check so one of my friends went to give him the check and he came back to our table saying in a passive aggressive way "next time put the check this way so I know you are done" and started laughing/rolling his eyes while saying so. This event is here what made us feel like we needed to talk to a manager. We asked to speak to the manager and the manager said we're glad you like the food thank you for the feedback but did not apologize on behalf of Patrick and seem sorry for the experience that we had. Just seemed like he was saying "thanks for the feedback." I am not sure if we were treated this way and not taken seriously because the four women at our table are all the young women of color, but it seems that way since our waiter was nicer to the surrounding tables around us as we were observing how he treated other tables. Update: an hour after I posted this review, the owner reached out to me expressing his apologies and refunded our table for our full order. He explained that the one waiter does not express the restaurant's values and that he is sorry for the experience we had and is following up internally. I really appreciate this message and step from the owner so would like to update my review. I am excited to go back to Gufo and try this restaurant again because again, the food and ambiance were amazing. It feels nice to be heard and validated by the Gufo Management Team!

Yelp
We were overwhelmed by options so we had 3 starters of olives (okay), eggplant dip (awesome) and arancini (amazing). The server immediately up sold us by saying that the arancini came with 3, but did we want 4. No question there. I then had the garlic pizza which was also amazing and my partner had the squid ink pasta which he was worried about but loved. We finished with a mini apple pie which was a nice ending. Had a few cocktails, which were all good. We will be coming back

Yelp
Great ambiance, really cool bar area. Only thing we didn't like about the layout was the tables were very close together, felt like they were trying to squeeze as many people in as they could. The service was a bit slow which might have been related to the prior point. Waited 15 minutes before a server came by our table after being seated. Also waited quite a while for our check. However, the food came out rather quickly which we appreciated. Pizza and pasta were both excellent. The Snap Pea Caesar was great as well. The fried dough with prosciutto was oversalted. We felt the Arancini was also a bit oversalted and would've benefited from a tomato sauce or lemon juice to cut the salt. We both ordered the Emerald City for drinks and felt that it tasted like a Jolly Rancher when we were hoping for something more like a spicy margarita. Overall enjoyed our experience and think with a few minor improvements could bring this rating up to 4 stars.

Yelp
Lovely little spot for modern Italian with great service and ambiance for a cozy dinner. Our dinner started with the 4-dish sampler (tapenade, honey with cheese, eggplant/ricotta, and apple) which came with focaccia (a tad on the dry side, IMO), which was a nice variety to whet the appetite. I had the broccoli Caesar salad as my main which was filling but light- loved the dill and the kohlrabi additions. The pastas/pizzas seemed really filling but tasty, too! Would return to try more of the menu.
