Guild Tavern

I simply cannot put into words how incredible the experience was. But I'll try. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed by a friendly host staff, a crackling fireplace, and the calming hum of a restaurant working on all cylinders with the open kitchen and wood fired grill making the atmosphere as on point as it gets. The bartenders, Lindsey and Bryson, were professionals at their craft. They were so kind and delivered the level of service one would expect at a Michelin star restaurant in New York City. And don't get me started on how good their martinis are. The steak tartare is the best I have ever had. Nestled atop a crispy fried hash brown gave it the consistency of gods. The tuna crudo, albeit a small portion, was the perfect combination of tuna and deliciously marinated spicy greens which delivered an amazing contrast and party in the mouth. We ordered the ribeye which was reasonably priced considering it came with both wonderfully garlicked mashed and green beans. The fresh made bearnaise sauce was like a liquid of the gods that complimented the perfectly cooked medium rare steak like what dreams are made of. Then the shrimp entree. Let me tell you I'm not one to get excited about shrimp. But the perfectly blackened and charred large shrimps were perched atop the most incredible "farroto", aka a creamy risotto made of farro as opposed to abbario rice, which offered an immaculate textural adventure with the crunch of sliced almonds, the sweet feathery bliss of shaved fennel, and the lovely quaint bitterness of fresh arugula to tie a bow on top of this James Beard - worthy dish. If you are reading this, I think you know by now that the Guild is a cannot miss establishment when it comes to Burlington VT. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious! Sirloin cooked perfectly, mashed potatoes seasoned beautifully! My only wish would've been mocktails added to the drink list.

It is rare to have the opportunity to describe a meal as "Perfect." After ordering (and completely finishing) the FARMER'S PLATE, SMOKED GOUDA MAC & CHEESE AND 2 ORRECHIETTE PASTA dishes; "Perfect" was how we described our meal. The flavor profiles for each of the dishes were spot on; full of flavor without overwhelming. Of note; we are vegetarian as were the dishes we ordered. I always appreciate when a restaurant which specializes in savory meat dishes, doesn't skimp when it comes to us herbivores! While we would return for the food no matter in what setting it was served; the restaurant's interior is warm and sumptuous. Edison bulbs dimly light the dining room providing the ideal atmosphere to relax and enjoy the wonderful food. We can't say enough positive things about the restaurant but do treat yourself if you are looking for an exceptional experience.

We hosted a holiday dinner party for 22 people and it was perfect! The space was open and allowed for easy mingling. The appetizers were delicious. Our guests raved about their meal, they loved the food. The service was excellent! Our server was friendly and helpful, making everyone feel comfortable. When it was time to sit down for dinner, the salads appeared quickly, and the entrees were ready shortly after. It was a very successful event. We were able to socialize and enjoy the evening and not worry about the food or service, because the Guild chefs and servers were so professional. We will be back next year! Thank you!

I can't remember when my steak was cooked to perfection! My husband and I had a wonderful experience. Oysters for an appetizer and the best cooked steak ever! I'm hoping they can cook the salmon just as well. We're looking forward to our next visit! Great service and food was exceptional!

As one who loves a great steak dinner, this spot was recommended after I shared that I wasn't pleased with my experience at the other spot last weekend. I walk in and sit at the bar. I notice a very nice whiskey selection in front of me. As I scanned the bourbons, I couldn't believe my eyes. There he was ..a very elusive bottle around my parts....Mr. Elmer T Lee with only about 3 ozs left in the bottle! A double please! 😁 I ordered the Surf n Turf Medium Rare and loaded my whipped potatoes! Everything was prepared perfectly! The service was wonderful!

Great food! Our steak and burger were perfectly cooked. The burger was honestly one of the best burgers I have had in a very long time. It was such a cozy place with the fireplace going and the decor inside. A must try in Burlington!!

Upon entering the air is very thick with wood smoke, our clothes smelled as if we were around a bonfire well after we left. Not sure if this is the intended ambiance or not. Service was a bit too quick with less than 2 minutes to look at the drink menu. Drinks sounded amazing. I had an apple inspired cocktail and for me it fell flat. The food while artfully plated was without any flavor, which we remedied ourselves with salt and pepper. The tartare had a potato rosti under it. The rosti was hot, giving the bottom of the tartare a, probably unintended, warm and unappreciated temperature. The Caesar dressing was very bland and flat. A little salt and pepper would have went a long way.

This is an exceptional place to eat! I took my daughter here for her birthday, and she couldn't have been happier. The oysters were marvelous and the Surf and Turf were out -of -this- world delicious! The service was commendable- so sensitive and caring was this waiter that everything was perfect and to the liking of my daughter on her birthday. I highly recommend the Guild to anyone wanting a splendid dining experience in a beautiful setting.

Im going to leave my previous review. When I posted my original review I was upset from the dinner I've had. However, since then the owner has reached out, apologized, and offered a gift card as a help for the steaks being undercooked. Great customer service from the farmhouse group, I would recommend all of the 4 Restraunts they manage to anyone new visiting town, and anyone who has not tried them yet

The steak was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was very inviting and cozy. Service was incredibly quick and it was a busy evening.

Josie our waitress was lovely. Not an inexpensive meal but it was very good. Second time here and we will be back.

I knew it was a mistake to order from here for delivery; however it was 89 degrees and I had a rough day. I ordered the small Caesar salad $14 with anchovies and the kids cheeseburger. Salad came without anchovies and was tiny af. $14, people. Burger was fine. Total bill, $50. Never again.

After a $12 salad we waited an hour and 15 min for our less than average meal. For $32 I got the smallest chicken leg ( I thought was a pigeon) over a slight bed of orzo. it was not noted on the menu that it was a leg. I thought it would have been a boneless breast over a nice dish of Orzo and veg but it was a disappointment. My grandon had the Salmon over a puree with a slight bit of asparagus for $32 and I swear the Salmon was no more than a 4 oz piece. Are you kidding me? oh yes they ran out of bread as well. The portions, cost , wait and all was a dissappointment..Not even a small house salad with the entree.. Still mad about that piece of chicken.

First time trying this restaurant and will be back, food service and ambiance was great and unexpected. Only thing is the music was a bit loud

Very enjoyable work dinner. Staff was great in spite of being short handed. Excellent meal especially for out of town guests.

Not the best experience. A lovely location but the seating was limited. I ordered theCast Iron Skillet Salmon which as a small portion and had a funny taste making the tip of my tongue numb. Of course I sent it back. With an apology from the manager. I received a hamburger order medium that appeared pretty rare. My husband ordered the roasted chicken which was also a small portion for the price. The server was delightful but the dinner took a long time to be delivered. Oh well. Hope your experience is better.

Disappointing! Overpriced, bland and barely seasoned food. The waitress and staff were pleasant which took it from 2.5 to 3 stars. The fries were cooked in old oil. The grilled vegetable plate was stone cold and all but raw with some grill marks to tease you. Just a disappointment all around. Will not go back I could go into greater detail but I'll save everyone from reading an epic post. If you go thinking it's owned by the same group that owns The Farmhouse in Burlington so it will be of the same quality you'll be wrong.!

This is my third visit here and the food is phenomenal. Tonight it struck me that the menu options and creativity of the chefs reminds me of the old NECI that was on Church St. Pricey but worth the visit to experience food and service that makes you feel good about spending local and supporting people committed to the Foodies of the world. The steak house feel is comfortable and pleasant with seating at the bar with attentive staff.

We enjoyed our dinner at this nice upscale restaurant. The atmo was refined with understated wood interior accent and relaxed lighting. Very nice server, just attentive enough but not intrusive. Meal quality was excellent, portions are modest, so you'll have enough room for dessert. Prices reflect the quality of preparation.

Solid 4. Scene: Updated/ New American "tavern". Cute, well appointed, iron and wood. Service: Prompt, friendly, and probably one of the best parts of the experience. Food: the selection is wonderful and according to the server, the menu changes seasonally. The Hamachi Tartar was excellent. Smoked pork loin, was not a dish for me. Too much apple butter smeared across the plate and the pork itself, while well seasoned, was dry. I mean like almost jerky. Flavor was on point, but the dish was a textural contrast for the strong-willed. Dessert was very good. My choice, French apple run cake. Would have been masterful if they served it flambé style, but that's something restaurants may not want to do for safety. Drinks: Master mixologists here. Order a cocktail. You can drink wine at home any day. Order that unique cocktail to start your evening off with a flavor adventure. Overall: very solid 4. The reason I couldn't make it five is the pork loin. It was almost returnable. Come here! Eat local! Shop local! Live local!

Surprised my wife with a dinner here for our anniversary. We were seated next to the kitchen area so we could see all the prep. pro's: As an app, ordered the oysters. Oysters were amazing. the smell of the wood fired grill and the food was incredible. loved the decor. server was attentive and kind. my wife ordered the smoked wings. they were amazing. kitchen staff brought dessert options on the house as an apology (see below). cons: ordered the Burger medium rare with pickled red onions "on the side." why? didn't know how pungent they would be and didn't want them to overpower the burger. when the burger arrived, it was medium well and the onions were on the burger. didn't want to wait to re-fire so i opted to keep it. server took it back anyway and had the onions removed and the lettuce replaced. did the best she could to mend it. overall - if you're going to specialize in grilling and price your food high, then you have to execute every firing. the food was delicious. but these 2 important details majorly detracted from the experience of the burger. hopefully your experience will be different. the restaurant does take measures to right wrongs. so keep that in mind.

Excellent service, Food was fantastic. Wife and I both got the Fillets and they were tender and the spice they put on them was great. It's nice to go to a fine dining restaurant and get a great meal. I used to work at the Sirloin Saloon and know a little about proper processing the beef and cooking. They hit the marks!

Menu Yelp is advertising is pre covid menu back when they had steak options. Now it's pretty much one size fits all kind of establishment.

Decent food, great service. I think they were under/staffed the few times I went. But the servers were pros and made us feel welcomed.

Came here after a nail appointment for an early dinner. Place was empty but Wednesday at 430. Ordered oyster. Really good except for one which seemed old. Them ordered sirloin at 42$. Med rare The mashed potatoes were awesome The béarnaise too The broccolini were lukewarm The meat - if indeed it is prime - was tough. Too chewy. Flavor did not overcome the toughness Service was fantastic But I can't really make a case for coming here more than once every 2 or 3 years. And I'm a once per week diner

The food was too good to give it anything less than a five. The drinks were good, but the poutine and the bbq plate for two made the night memorable. This is poutine done right and poutine that I'll remember for a long time. Not only were the fries crispy, even the ones that were soaked with gravy, but the cheese tasted so amazing. This is one of those places that I would go back just to get more of the poutine. I wasn't expecting to like the rosemary that came with it, but it somehow I worked together. I also loved how it was served in a cast iron dish because I felt like everything was kept warm until we were finished with it. The bbq plate was also phenomenal. Being from Texas, I'm a bit of a brisket snob. And unlike a lot of people, I tend to lean more towards fatty brisket. Guild Tavern's beef was incredibly tender. As was their pulled pork, something I rarely get when eating bbq. Even their chicken (which I usually get less than pork) had the most amazing smoke flavor to them. While this place is a little pricier than the surrounding restaurants, it's definitely worth visiting. Did I mention the poutine is good?

Great menu with lots of locally sourced ingredients. Great beer menu, again with lots of local options. Our table had the burrata appetizer and steak and fish entrees, everything was delicious. Our waitress was attentive but we never felt rushed.

Wow I LOVE this place! Food is amazing!!!! My husband and I went the other week and we had the best bartender, Kit! I think she also is a waitress there, not sure , but definitely ask for her. We'll be back for sure. Also had a sweet girl named caroline one time- loved her too can't go wrong with either .

Great place for dinner. We were in town to pick up our new furry family members and came across Guild. We didn't have a reservation but they were more than accommodating. Our carnivorous son loved his steak and my DH and I couldn't agree more with ours. Our daughter loved her dinner (she's very picky and is practically a vegetarian). The ambiance was nice and comfortable. I love the lighting! The wait was a bit longer than I would have preferred but good thing we all like each other's company.

When arriving to pick up takeout (for somebody else of all things) the food was not the problem, which is why this is two stars and not one star. The attitude of the hostess when handing me the food was that of disgust, and I couldn't understand why. I always give the benefit of the doubt, but the final straw was when I was clearly about to ask a question and got the "shoo away" hand gesture from this young woman, which is simply waving one's back hand as if to say "you're dismissed." I have never in my near 40 years seen this from any restaurant employee, never mind the face of the business. I understand it is tough to find good people these days, but I definitely do not expect to ask this person to seat me any time in the near future. (I should say that this took place over 1 month ago).

You would seat me in the lounge and let me eat off my lap yet not let me order to go? Have you lost your minds?

Amazing Meal and Atmosphere. The Chef and Team are Amazing. The food is creative and Delicious! I wish we had room for dessert!

From atmosphere that wraps you in comfort the moment you step in the door, to expert cocktails, to the started and entrees, everything is top-notch. Everything. The cocktails on the menu were refreshing and exciting to the tastebuds. Combinations of sour and smoke or spice and spirits were a surprising wake-me-up to the palate. The stake tartare was out of this world. Perfect balance of crispy hashbrown with tender steak, seasoned with herbed olive oil and salted with capers strewn about. Loved it!! The smoked pork loin was tender and juicy, cooked to perfection with a complement of roasted veggies and sweat apple butter. The fish special, fried striped bass, was tender and mild, perfectly complemented by homemade tartar sauce and Cole slaw. The service was great. Not rushed but attentive. My favorite place in Vermont!!

Awesome food-the steak entree is delicious!! The staff was so friendly, and the ambiance was wonderful.

This is my spot but can add up quickly in $$$. However we'll worth it. The drinks are classic as well custom and made with style. The food is greasy, & always perfect in every aspect. The best time to go is when there's snow. You step out of your car and can smell the goodness Inside is a real wild fire. The dress is casual, the design is farmhouse trendy. It's worth every penny

THIS PLACE WAS INCREDIBLE. My fiancé and I were really excited to come here. Had 6pm reservations for dinner, and a show at Higher Ground later on for our Christmas Gift to each other. We started with the steak tartare. It was tender and delicious. Seasoned perfectly and resting atop the best potato pancake I've ever eaten. Fried capers were a nice touch. I started with Maine Beer Co Lunch and he had an Oatmeal Stout from Four Quarters. Cheers to their beer and cocktail list! We both ordered burgers. Rare. He got the Bayley Hazen Blue and I got the Laplatte. They were perfect. There really is no other word. I upgraded my fries to poutine and it was a religious experience. I love poutine and theirs is top notch. For cocktails we got Goddess of the Underworld, penicillin, Vieux Cerre, and Old Checkered House. (We walked from our Airbnb so we sent it. We had chocolate pot de crème for dessert. Wow. Open kitchen with the wood fire grill created great ambience, staff was very friendly and prompt. Highly recommend. Can't wait to come back!

Food was great! Steak was cooked perfectly and my wife had more food then she bargained for which worked out very well for me. Wife rated her drink as a 10/10 (was tequila based) and their spin on an Olde fashioned was awesome. Will be back in the winter!

Good, but pricey farm-to-table steakhouse. If you want to gorge on meat, this probably isn't the best spot for you since you will definitely leave with a lighter wallet. However, the quality of the meat here is a notch above anywhere I've been in the Burlington area. Steak frites come with far more frites than steak, but the steak is excellent and cooked the way you ordered it. The fries are good (although not as good as the Farmhouse). If you come here, you absolutely must get the steak tartare. It's served on a hashbrown (they call it something fancy, but its basically a really good hashbrown), which adds a salty crispyness that pairs really well with the tender beef and runny egg yolk. The bar here is solid too. I got a proper old fashioned for $10 and the whiskey smash is tasty as well. They've definitely done a nice job transforming this former Ground Round.

The choice was between the Bearded Frog and the Guild for their burger nite... Bearded Frog is close Guild is a drive. However Bearded Frogs burgers have turned to hockey pucks...and I have stopped ordering them. Our experience at the Guild was great...starting with the service that was superb...The Burgers were so good...no hockey pucks these... I had one of their regulars burger with sauteed onions and a delicious mushroom cheese and tons of greens...my husband had the special... Oh My onion ring bacon and apple slices and Bernaise sauce and piles of fries... The food was excellent and we will have to take a ride to the Guild.

What a wonderful restaurant. Went while in Burlington for a girls weekend on the recommendation of a good friend. He was not wrong. The drinks were perfect and the food fantastic.

To start, the ambiance of the restaurant was absolutely lovely! My mom spoke to someone on the phone regarding a family member's food allergies and they were helpful and attentive as well. Our hostess was sweet and our waitress was nice enough, but the woman who dropped off our food rolled her eyes at us when we reminded her about the food allergy (severe, causes anaphylactic reaction) because plates were delivered to the wrong people. The food was just okay, especially for the price, and most of the dishes came completely cold. The steak was tough and not cooked to the liking requested and the salmon was basically raw and had to be sent back. I would describe the overall experience as "fine", but fine isn't ideal when you are paying around $30 for each entree. We are not local to Vermont but will definitely not be returning when we visit again. I would recommend visiting Pizzeria Verita or The Farmhouse instead. Staff was friendlier and food was hot and consistent. Most all of the reviews I leave on here are 5 stars, so I hate leaving slightly negative reviews, but the whole family left feeling disappointed and a bit offended :-(

Finally found a restaurant that I can enjoy in Burlington. The food was very tasty and the service was especially good. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed

We arrived 1 hr before closing, so staff looked like they were ready to run out of there. We didn't go for the steaks which was the highly recommended item. They were way too big even for 2 people. The waitress first offered us some bread (or rolls) can't remember, after bringing the plates, she came back and say "Sorry, we ran out of bread". Seriously. Nothing to nibble before our food arrive. We ordered a BBQ shared plate with brisket and chicken. The brisket was good. My husband loved the BBQ sauce that came with it, I didn't. The chicken - well - I could not eat more than 1 bite. It tasted very strange, so decided to skip. Beer selection was good. The place was not that full, only few tables occupied - tons of staff, but yet service was slow - go figure.

We hosted the rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding. Xavier was wonderful to work with, all done long distance. The room was perfect for our group of 29, but would have accommodated our original 40 as well. The tables were decorated beautifully. The servers were exceptional. The appetizers and meal were delicious. We had many compliments on the meal, drinks, appetizers, dessert, and location. Bonus points for on-site parking.

The food was amazing, but the service was awful. 260$ bill for two people and we waited one hour and fifteen minutes for food. It was a 8pm reservation. The worst part was the manager on 9/30 was not receptive and acted like our concerns didn't matter.

I want to share possibly the worst dining experience in VT I've had since moving here several years ago. I regularly host clients and staff at The Guild. In fact in my role as a director of a financial institution, I make a business of regularly entertaining clients at local restaurants, Quietly, over the years, the Guild has been a reliable go-to place. I just left this evening shaking and beyond-belief upset as I write this. By the way this review will replace a few 5 star reviews of the Guild. My guests and I had a perfectly good meal when a "manager" approached the table telling me I've been over-served double vodkas. She claimed I had 5. We had 5 between the 3 of us between 4:30pm to 8pm. I informed our waitress that - and this is a QUOTE "I'm sorry but that was really disappointing, I really wish she didn't come over and just loudly tell the table that we're cut off." We wrapped up coffee and 15 minutes of disbelief conversation, and when leaving I tried to introduce myself to the other "manager" who would only write "J. Gorman" on a piece of paper. He wouldn't even let me speak as I desperately tried let him know how much business we do together - and that it was a miscommunication! He laughed at me. He told me to gladly call the "front office". He berated me, called me names, raised his voice, and claimed I caused a scene. The only person who caused a scene this evening was Mr. Gorman. Am I devastated a waitress was apparently "in tears" which we didn't see? YES! But he caused an even bigger scene while I just tried to have a quiet conversation . By the way, this all happened TONIGHT only twenty minutes ago... I will NEVER trust the Guild or Farmhouse Group to my business or trusted clients ever ever ever again. If I can write this, I think that at a minimum I deserved better than being called a "rude drunk". Mr. Gorman claimed to mix the drinks himself. I told the waitress that they weren't doubles by the way which is probably what got under his skin. He didn't make the drinks. We know the bartender who did. The same bartender I saw him high-five on my way out... He was looking for a fight. Shame on you and shame on a business that thinks that it's ok to call clients names. If it really was such a big deal how come Mr.Gorman didn't personally come to our table between the initial conversation and our departure? You could all use a class on customer service in a miscommunication. I highly encourage you to take your business elsewhere and plead with Farmhouse Group management and ownership of the Guild to take a step back and closely examine what happened tonight. The embarrassment is not on my end, but theirs. Good luck doing business like this. By the way, I parked my car next door, and took an Uber to my hotel next door as a precaution just to be safe. By the way, taking Uber was also communicated to the waitress during our meal. I would never in a million years condone driving under the influence and paced my consumption to be WELL UNDER the limit. Shame on the Guild and I hope the waitress who reads this knows that our issues weren't with her good service but with the two people who claimed to be "managers" AND turned out to be bullies. NEVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN.

I have driven by this place MANY times and always thought, I think it might be a great place to eat. We finally gave it a try based on reviews and photos. We're so glad we did. The service was AMAZING (ask for Alexa). Many of the reviews referred to the beef tartar so I gave it a try. I'd go back just for that! My husband had the sweet corn soup app and loved it. For mains, he ordered a burger and I had the Calabrese Shrimp. The mix of flavours in my shrimp dish were a treat for my palate. And, I cannot lie, I dipped into my husband's fries...had a few more than just a few. We'll be back for sure!

Excellent steakhouse cooked on real wood grill. We ordered the steak dinner for two, the salads were very good, fries were nicely seasoned, little disappointed on the vegetable sides. This restaurant is on the pricier side, but of good quality. I wish they had a better wine list, although the bar tenders were mixing a lot of specialty drinks. Must have the salted toffee ice cream, excellent!

Great premium in person dining, however, I think the takeout picture speaks for itself. That's a steak and shrimp entree in case you were wondering. I contacted them via their website and didn't get a response.
