Guillaume Scheer - Les Plaisirs Gourmands

"Do as the locals do and make a beeline for this discreet restaurant with its tasteful contemporary décor. At the helm, a rather remarkable couple – Guillaume Scheer in the kitchen and his partner, Charlotte Gate, the personification of smiling efficiency front of house. Guillaume, who worked at the Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris and 1741 in Strasbourg, is fully versed in the pleasures of the palate, creating superb sauces and jus, cooking fish to perfection, and focusing on the freshest ingredients." - Michelin Inspector

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Guillaume Scheer « Les Plaisirs Gourmands » in Strasbourg, France. We were welcomed with a series of delicious amuse-bouches, which immediately set the tone for the evening and showcased the kitchen’s precision and creativity. For starters, the lightly smoked eel was beautifully complemented by a beetroot and parsley condiment, an elegant pairing that worked extremely well both in terms of balance and depth of flavor. We also greatly enjoyed the John Dory, served with pak choi and subtle Asian notes inspired by Thai cuisine, bringing freshness and a delicate aromatic complexity to the dish. For the main courses, both the beef fillet and the lièvre à la royale were outstanding. Each dish was perfectly executed, rich yet controlled, and clearly reflected a strong mastery of classic technique combined with a modern touch. We shared a dessert centered around apple and quince, which was indulgent, well-balanced, and a lovely way to conclude the meal on a refined sweet note. The semi-open kitchen adds to the experience, allowing guests to see the team at work and reinforcing the feeling of transparency and craftsmanship. Service was excellent throughout the evening: efficient, smiling, and attentive, with plenty of explanations and anecdotes shared, which made the experience both engaging and warm. The interior design is modern, elegant, and well-lit, creating a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. If there is one small point for improvement, it would be that some tables are positioned relatively close to one another, which can occasionally reduce the sense of privacy as nearby conversations may be audible. That said, this is a minor remark in what was otherwise a very high-quality dining experience. A restaurant well worth discovering for anyone looking for refined cuisine near Strasbourg.

Excellent food with variety of different flavor profiles. My favorite was definitely the Chaloraise beef with chive sauce, John Dory with Green curry sauce and the dessert. Price is also very reasonable considering the food we got. Attentive and kind service. Atmosphere is luxury but relaxing. It's located a bit apart from the tourist spot, but worth the detour.

I absolutely love this restaurant!!! The food is tasty with really good combination with sources and ingredients. The price is also quite reasonable among the Michelin star restaurants I went. Just yesterday’s evening is a little bit noisy from guests downstairs but the service and other aspects of the restaurant is perfect. Highly recommend!!!

It was an amazing experience for us - from the communication about our special request, to the menu, to the actual lunch with a 5-course menu. Every dish was absolutely delicious, each with the chef’s particular touch. The wine selection was also excellent. Special thanks to the pastry team for the reduced-sugar desserts, exactly what I hope for after several courses. Simply perfect!

Google
3rd Michelin restaurant for me - the best so far and the most affordable prices. Very tasty. Beautiful notes in the flavors - art! We also found very good wine for a very affordable price, we even bought from the producer. You can see it in the pictures.

Very nice restaurant, small and elegant. The menu was good and food really tasty. The chef was kind enough to replace the meat with a very good and fresh fish. However, the service was not the best, for this type of restaurant I expected more, we have better in Strasbourg.

Above what could be expected of a Michelin star. Food execution creativity and balancing of flavours is top. Service is attentive and warm. A sommelier is on hand to answer all your vinous queries with a wide a broad offering of wines. They even have an orange wine section taking you outside conventional offerings.

Simply superb on so many levels. A warm welcome, elegant and comfortable dining room, outstanding service from a dedicated staff and above all extraordinary food with matching wines. The escargots with boudin blanc and garlic flan were the best snails of my life. Prices represent an outstanding value - I highly recommend the 6 course menu gourmand.
