Guinness Open Gate Brewery - Review - Covent Garden - London - The Infatuation

"The Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden is the home of pint-tilting pandemonium. As well as Gilroy’s Loft (a seafood restaurant with skyline views), The Porter’s Table (a grill spot, also headed up by Pip Lacey), and Old Brewer’s Yard (a more casual pie-fuelled hangout)." - Sinéad Cranna

Coal Drops Yard Restaurant Barrafina Will Open Parrillan Grill Terrace | Eater London

"For one month a pop-up taproom will bring beers from the Open Gate brewery to an east London venue, featuring a Citra IPA, a pilsner and a chilli stout alongside food from local east London street-food vendors." - James Hansen

A visit of the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in London was on our “nice to do”. It is a pleasant atmosphere, with a great outdoor brewery area, a food truck, and the line was not too long. The store is very well set up, but they ran into some technical problems with the receipt. With a bit of patience it worked out. Friendly team overall. There is a lot of buzz around it. My score a 4.3.

Excellent and enthusiastic guide, the tasting was good and entertaining but the whole space just feels like Disneyland. Nothing is authentic, it’s just a gimmick to sell merch. If you want a proper brewery experience head to the Bermondsey Beer Mile or go to Dublin for the actual Guinness factor. This is a huge miss for me.

After making the trip to visit the new Guinness Brewery, I was excited to experience everything on offer. While Brewers Yard is an interesting outdoor space, I was disappointed that there was nowhere indoors to enjoy a drink (without committing to a meal). On a chilly day (around 10°C), the open-air setup felt absolutely Baltic — with cold drafts funneling through the buildings, it was hard to relax and enjoy a pint. It would make a huge difference to have at least some covered or internal seating. Even a heated indoor area or sheltered section would transform the experience, especially during colder months. As it stands, the outdoor-only drinking area feels impractical in typical British weather - so bring some warm layers! Overall, the brewery visit had its highlights, but the lack of internal drinking space in Brewers Yard was a notable downside. Ps £7.20 a pint of Guinness

Every time I drink Guinness I feel better about my life! For about 3-4 hours and then the dark thoughts usually all come floodimg back to me. But just like a pint of Guinness, above the deep deep darkness a very thin layer of lightness will rise above all. And it lasts as long as I keep necking those creamy black pints. Godspeed Guinness. I hope your new £73m endeavour does for the London alcohol tourism industry what it did for Dublin. I understand all the locals over there unanimously think it's great. Now it's London's turn. Toucan play at that game. And finally I hope that anybody reading this overcomes the darkness in their life. Whether it be the darkness to the demon liquor itself, or it's just the general swirling bleakness that we all struggle to overcome. I believe in you. Anyway I'm harping on.

Guiness is about Irish culture in a pint glass. This place is a pint of Carling in Milton Keynes. To take everyone on an experience about brewing and not even brew Guinness is a complete con. Imagine going to watch Boxing and you get an origami lesson instead. Staff really nice.

We did the final tour on the first day it was open to the public. Mixed feelings. The tour was good, it was highly educational, interesting and a great experience, until the end. For some reason our tour was running late, which is fine. We poured our own first pints, at 7.10PM - the bar was absolutely packed from the previous tours so most of our tour stood. We finally sat down and the we got told we had 20 minutes to finish and leave. I was absolutely shocked. We had literally just sat down and we hadn't even got the pints yet that I paid extra for when I booked. (Which was expensive by the way). I mentioned this to a staff member and she quickly ushered us to have those done. Then we were sat there with nearly 2 full pints each and 15 minutes to finish them in. We kept getting reminded we had to go, we literally downed both drinks, leaving us feeling awful after. So much emphasis is put on how Guinness like to do things, the timing, the science, the feelings behind it and to be forced to have to drink 2 pints each in 15 minutes completely soured the experience for us, and to be honest ruined the experience as a whole. There was a handful of people in our tour who had the same experience as they ordered the extra pints. The tour itself was good as I mentioned, we would have liked at least some time to drink the drinks we paid for and digest the experience. I emailed customer service and they just apologised, said there was anything they could do as everything had to finish on time and they are strict with timings but 20 minutes to finish 2 pints is simply not acceptable. They should not allow for the extra pints to be bought in that case. But told me to email if we would go back again. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was disappointed with the brewery tour experience and would not recommend it. The venue feels overly commercialized and caters primarily to tourists, with high prices that do not reflect the quality offered. The beers sampled during the tour were, unfortunately, of very poor quality and not enjoyable. Moreover, the tastings appeared to be provided in exchange for mandatory feedback on experimental beers, which felt like an obligation rather than a genuine part of the tour. Additionally, the staff handling was inconsistent and unprofessional. We observed that two guests were given complimentary second pints, while our group was not offered the same, which felt like unfair treatment. Overall, the tour did not provide good value, and I advise others to skip it in favor of more authentic local options.
