Where to Eat Alone in Florence: Top Picks for Solo Travelers

"A quiet gem in Florence’s historically blue-collar San Frediano , Gune is known for its layered approach to finer Tuscan cuisine with a southern Basilicata flair, like baccala (salt cod stew) with peperoni cruschi (dried bell peppers) or pasta with Mediterranean sea urchin and Tuscan kale. Both a la carte and tasting menu options are available. They also have a bar next door with food from their restaurant if you’d prefer to dine in a cozy hideout setting." - Coral Sisk

"The chef at this small gastronomic restaurant serves cuisine which acts as a bridge between Basilicata and Tuscany, the two most significant regions in his life, resulting in creative, delicate and beautifully presented dishes." - Michelin Inspector

23 Best Restaurants in Florence

"Located in San Frediano, Florence’s coolest neighborhood (according to a well-known travel guide), Guné is a sophisticated yet relaxed restaurant with a retro-glam vibe which is steadily gaining a reputation as one of the city’s more interesting dining spots. People come here to eat and drink well. Award-winning bartender Eleonora Romolini has a real flair for mixology and a loyal local following among Florence’s cocktail crowd, with signature mixes like Basil Instincts (gin, basil, mandarin) and Artemide (with notes of porcini mushroom and wild fennel). The owners’ southern Italian roots and the chefs’ Florentine origins meet in a clever fusion of two regional cuisines. Basilicata is present in dishes such as paccheri pasta with francesina (meat sauce), moliterno cheese and “chutney” made from crusco (dried sweet red peppers), while the signature Valdarno pigeon three ways (including a fabulous little savory liver crème brulée) is pure Tuscany." - Nicky Swallow

Service was impeccable, with staffs who were both knowledgeable and passionate about the menu and wine paring. Nicola in particular deserves special mention for the intuitive, with his thoughtful service that elevated each dish to a new level. We had two spring tasting menus, one is with fish while paring with 4 different cocktails, another is meat paring with wines. These paring was definitely a highlight for the night, we fully enjoyed at the moment. In short, Gunè is a sanctuary for food lovers and oenophiles alike. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging your senses, this restaurant offers a dining experience that is as refined as it is unforgettable.

Astonishing restaurant. We had the 4 course taster that comes with many 'welcomes' (amuse bouch) before the first course. We also went with the wine 'flight' suggestion and were served some very pleasant wines, there were 4 glasses with the main meal courses and finally a dessert wine. Its very expensive here but you'll be treated accordingly. Only one course wasn't to our liking but everything else was really good.

Incredible Experience, Welcoming Staff! I went here my first night in Florence during a solo trip. Nicola was an incredible host from the second I walked in, to my final sip of wine. He created an experience that was incredibly memorable, with special care for each plate. For this meal, I had the 6-course 'Tradition & Evolution' tasting - every dish was filled with bold & fresh flavors. If I had to name a favorite dish it would have the spaghetti with anchovy done two ways. But still very hard to choose because each course had distinctive flavors & connection to the region.

My partner and I came here while visiting Florence, and it was one of the best meals we had in Italy. We had accidentally reserved the wrong time and they were incredibly accommodating and seated us right away. The service was wonderful and the chef came out to thank All the tables at the end of the meal. I had the vegetarian course menu and my partner had the 5 course tasting menu. I would highly recommend Gunè for vegetarians and every course was delicious!

My mother and I went here for dinner and the experience from the beginning to the end was incredible. Neither of us had experienced Michelin Star dining before and Guné was the perfect restaurant for us to venture into this type of dining. The staff is extremely attentive and truly cares about providing excellent service to everyone at their restaurant. The menu is ever changing depending on the season and each dish is accompanied by an explanation from the servers, or even the owner himself! We selected their 8-course menu for the spring, more specifically I was accommodated with a vegan menu. There are already so many existing options in terms of food accommodations, however, the staff will communicate with the chef to best suit your needs, just as I did with requesting a vegan menu. Not only was the presentation beautiful, the taste was sophisticated and each piece complemented each other perfectly. If I was forced to pick a favourite, they were all my favourite to be clear!, the celeriac with a 25 year-aged balsamic vinegar wins for me. This dish contained many different elements, crunchy, sweet, salty, and was unlike anything I have ever eaten. I cannot forget to mention the desserts as well. The mango sorbet had such a pure taste and texture, but the chocolates were a perfect way to say goodbye at the end of the evening. Besides the food, the restaurant itself is elegant and embodies a warm yet polished ambiance. Guné itself is the ancient Greek word for woman, which has inspired the theme of the restaurant. There are numerous artworks of notable women hung around the restaurant truly creating and putting a face to the name. Once again, both my mother and I are extremely pleased we chose Guné while on our trip to Florence. We could not have asked for a better dining experience. Between the kind staff and the exquisite food, there is no world in which I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Florence! Thank you Guné for introducing us to the world of Michelin Star dining and we cannot wait to return soon!!

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and it was absolutely fantastic. The decor is really lovely, the service was exactly what you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant, and the food was divine - presented perfectly and full of interesting textures and flavors. Everything was salted perfectly but in a way that didn't taste like they just put salt on top - it was embedded in the food. We liked the rabbit, the spaghetti, and the dessert the best, but honestly it was all good. The wine was premium as well - no unnecessary dryness, no bitterness, just great. We can't wait to come back.

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would! Thank you so much for making our aperitivo experience memorable. We came in for a few cocktails before dinner and we ended up having such a wonderful time that we forgot about our dinner plans. Each delicious cocktail that we ordered was accompanied by two small delicious appetizers. The presentation was amazing! The staff were welcoming and wonderful, especially the cocktail master Eleonora, who I believe is the best bartender in Florence.

We ordered their 8-course signature tasting menu with additional wine menu for my boyfriend and the cocktail menu for me. The wines were extraordinary and the cocktails the most exquisite I have tasted in a long time. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the taste and different flavors was so on point. The service was likewise out of the ordinary. We had the owner come down to our table explaining us about the wine and food, and you could just tell how passionate he was about both. The cocktail specials came down herself to present the different cocktails, and we never waited for anything - we were so well taken care of. Just an out of the ordinary experience for us and we would definitely have to come back. HUGE recommendation. Definitely worth the money.
