The grilled shrimp was decent. The salad dressing was watered down. The collard greens were okay. Almost all of the seats are torn. The best I can say about the visit is the waitress was nice and prompt. The food came quickly as well. I will not be visiting this restaurant again.

Consistently good food and service. I remember going there as a child, what a great memory. Southern fare. Had steak and gravy and a salad that was huge and delicious...the owner was sitting in a booth at lunch, very quaint place. Busy with a variety of customers.

The building inside and outside could use some TLC. Other than that it's a great local diner. The new waitress was very attentive and friendly. The prices very reasonable. I'm not sure, but I think the owner/founder's son was the cook for our meal. He was also very nice and made you feel special. He offered to make me something else if I didn't like the veal I had ordered. Great customer service experience! The fried squash was delicious! The slaw, banana pudding, and the chopped sirloin steak covered in mushrooms and sauce were also very good! My wife and I will definitely be going back.

Delicious! Our friends and I tried this out on a Monday night and all the food was great. The fried squash is excellent and the fried chicken sandwich was really good. Everyone was really friendly and we will definitely be back. Enjoy!

Man, I came in about 20min before closing after an appointment and they were AMAZING. I'm Nonverbal and they were SO patient with me. They didn't have the meal I wanted to get my mother in law so they told me the closest thing to it. The food was hot and fresh, portions were amazing. In the rush of me trying to get out of there so they could close I forgot one of the sides. The staff ran out and brought it TO me!! I was bringing food to my kids' grandma for dinner and she loved it!! She told me a story about how the boys (owners sons) use to play together in her yard with her kids. This is something we don't get too often anymore. She has dementia so she forgets a lot of things. So it was nice to hear the story of the kids playing together and her eating there and enjoying.

This place is a prime candidate for one of those fix'er upper shows- especially considering how few historical locales exist here in Charlotte AND the growing popularity of this particular area. I'd love to see Gus' get a makeover and become a neighborhood hub, but as it stands it is simply falling apart and generally unmaintained. The food was ok, the staff was friendly, but I get the sense that owners are just waiting for the opportunity to cash out on the property and so why bother with any updates? I would be SO happy to be wrong- maybe a visit from 3 spirits is in order but please fix this place up so we can all enjoy a vintage but well loved & maintained piece of history and not another demolition & condo. I see great potential for a classic diner here just need to put in the effort.

I haven't been to Gus's in many years as I live about 45 minutes away. The food was outstanding, and the waitress was awesome. Their fried squash is the best. I will definitely come back! Thank you

I actually love this place. It tastes just like home cooking from my grandma's generation, and the portions are generous too. I've never had anything bad. However, most things are a little bland. You're going to want to add salt or maybe bring your own hot sauce. And the seats are torn. So I don't feel right giving it four or five stars. But I would definitely recommend.
