"Gus’s crispy fried chicken comes with a hint of spice and is surprisingly not greasy. Food comes on styrofoam plates (though, the company pledged to go foam free by next year), and there are basic sides like baked beans, cole slaw, and macaroni and cheese. The Fulton Market location was the first to have a full bar, and with a liquor license in hand it’s not hard to imaging a similar set up in River North." - Ashok Selvam

River North can definitely use a good fried chicken place, and Gus’s fits the bill. The place is surprisingly large. I was pleasantly surprised that table service was available. Basically, you’re going to have chicken. You can have a breast, a thigh, a leg, a wing or any combination thereof. I had a half chicken so I could try them all. My favorite was the wing, which had the perfect crust to meat ration. As you can tell from the name, the crust is spicy–not so hot you can’t taste anything else, but definitely spicy. It’s also nice and crisp, and not greasy (except maybe for the thigh). The accompanying Cole slaw was delicious, with just the right hint of sweetness. The beans were pretty good too. Prices are good. There’s a limited selection of beer, and probably the only reasonably priced bottle of Dom Perignon in all of River North! Being brand new there were minor service and equipment issues, but overall a very good experience.

Decent spot to get fried chicken. Options for chicken piece and sides are nice. A plate is good enough for a standard meal. The chicken itself isn't spicy but you can ask for sauce to add a bit of heat. Prices are reasonable and service is fairly quick. Lots of seating space so large groups wouldn't be a problem.

Being from Memphis, this meal brought me right back home for a minute. Of course the atmosphere is not quite like in the south (between all the tall buildings and all...) But the food is good. Waiters lack the southern slang, but that's ok for Chicago. Service was fast and friendly. Must have for visitors.

Gus’s is great. Just opened this location about 5 months ago. 30 franchised locations across the nation. Staff is extremely friendly. The wet chicken batter has all the spice and flavor mixed in. Dropped in 375 degree oil it comes out crisp. Watch the after burners on the spice. Will be sure to try any location I come across

What a great place to get chicken. It's sort of a hidden location downtown, but wow. It has a great environment and is super convenient especially if you work in the area. This was some of the best fried chicken that I've ever had. The staff is super nice and helpful, the food came out pretty quickly, and the portion sizes are nothing to complain about. The menu is pretty simple, it's all fried chicken and it's all delicious. I had the three piece plate, but was told that the chicken tenders are just as good and will try them soon. Having Gus's so close to work is going to be a problem.....

Really enjoy this Restaurant, Tawanda our waitress gave us good service. The first bite of the chicken surprised us on how spicy and hot it was. But after that it was how great and juicy it tasted.

Never been to Tennessee but this place has really good fried chicken. So crispy and with a good kick to it. Pretty good value, although a bit simple. Side dishes were excellent as well. Hiding right over the bridge on the river. Friendly and good service.

We arrived later, closer to 11pm. Friendly staff, very patient with us being new the younger ones being young. Long story short: The chicken was very good and juicy. The Louisiana hot sauce was a very good complement to the chicken itself. The tenders were very juicy, but even the white meat breast was juicy. We didn’t like the potato salad (personal preference to style, it wasn’t bad), or the beans (personal preference again, a bit too sweet for us) but the sides were well done. We liked the slaw, it’d probably be good on a (hint) chicken sandwich. The youngest had the grilled cheese, which she devoured. All in all, a tasty bite to eat.
