Came in for a bite today after I drove 3 hrs just to see the 49ers blow it losing to the Texans!!!??? Crazy work....anyways found a table even though it was busy!!!! Elijah was our server he was amazing. He attended us quickly, kindly and efficiently. It was great i felt so welcome!!! He helped explain the menu after asking if it was our first time. Food was amazing, hot , fresh, seasoned!!!! Okkkk yeah loved it. Got a pie slice too also delish.... the tea nice and sweet but not crazy. Mac and cheese on point!! Okra my favorite 😍 beans good.. slaw perfect! I really am presently surprised. If your looking at these reviews ....I am not a paid sponsor 🤣🤣 i had to pay my tab but the food and service was that good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ Delicious Fried Chicken & Satisfying Sides — Just a Bit Small on Portion Tried the two-piece white chicken meal and while the portion was smaller than expected (menu showed two breasts but the plate came with one breast and a small wing), the flavor made up for it. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and packed with spice — exactly what you'd hope for from Gus’s! The BBQ beans and coleslaw were excellent sides — fresh, well-seasoned, and a great complement to the chicken. Portions could be a bit more aligned with the menu, but overall, very satisfying meal. I’ll definitely be back for more!

This is my first time visiting Gus's. I found the service from Eli kind and professional. The chicken and baked beans were delicious. I ordered seaonsed fries from the menu they were good but I didn't find them seasoned.🍟🍗🍟🍗🍟.

Absolutely fantastic location for fried chicken. Just tried their new chicken sandwich and honestly it’s one of the best I’ve had. Their chicken on a potato bun is solid. I would have preferred a brioche bun for some additional firmness but everything just melded together perfectly.

Hands down best fried chicken you'll ever eat outside of Grandma's house and you'll have to lie to her saying hers is the best after you eat here. The chicken is perfectly crispy, seasoned, flavorful, and just the right amount of spice. The sides are awesome too. I've had the fried green tomatoes, coleslaw, mac and cheese, greens and fries. Fries are normal, but everything else really shines. You can't make a bad choice here, everything is top notch and I was really impressed. I can't believe I lived in Houston for so long and just found this place. I will definitely be back every chance I get! Shout out to Annette, she was very nice nice, helpful, speedy, and attentive. Just one of the many helpful staff that Gus's is blessed to have working for them.

Wow. This is some kick ass fried chicken. It came out ripping hot (careful you don’t burn your mouth) and So moist and tender. Everything was incredibly crispy and perfectly cooked. The sides were good too! The mac and cheese was nice and solid, with a sharp cheese flavor! The cole slaw was an unexpected amazing edition. It was sweet tangy and maybe my favorite side we tried! The fries were good, especially when they were extra salty. The only thing that I might pass on was the greens. They were just okay, a little under seasoned for me. The fried green tomatoes were really good to start off. They were crispy, hot, and really tangy. The ranch and honey mustard were amazing and totally worth the $0.65. We also tried the chocolate chess pie! The crust was just okay, but the filling was FIRE! It was rich, thick, and decadent. Overall, Gus’s had an amazing price point, generous portion sizing, attentive staff, and Amazing food. We will definitely be back here.

Today's experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we were seated, our waiter was attentive and perceptive, anticipating our needs before we could even mention them. It truly allowed us to relax, fellowship, and enjoy our meal without having to worry about asking for extra items or waiting on service everything our table desired was provided with excellence. Dining here is always a treat, but today reminded me why I love coming back. The food was delicious, the atmosphere warm, and the service absolutely above and beyond. It was a genuine pleasure to enjoy such hospitality again. If you're looking for a place where the chicken is mouth-watering and the service exceeds all expectations, this is it. Come on and dine here you'll leave full, happy, and eager to return.

I try to find a Gus' fried chicken wherever I can. This was the second location I tried. It is near the Texans stadium slapped smack in the middle of an otherwise unappealing shopping area. Don't let tha fool you because once you step inside you are greeted with exceptional service and mouth watering food. The food; fried chicken of course. I order the four piece with some fried okra and some greens. My momma would have loved this place. The restaurant is a welcome reprieve from the surrounding area and is clean and well maintained. Now, this is spicy chicken, but don't be a sissy. I don't like food so spicy you can't enjoy the actual food. This is just the right amount of spice and delicious juicy chicken. Don't forget the sweet tea, y'all!

This was our first visit to Gus's, and it won't be our last. We ordered the Memphis special, 2 piece dark meal, and two tender meals. We tried fried okra, fries, mac and cheese, beans, greens, and slaw. The chicken was super crispy, juicy and flavorful but be careful that juice is like lava. Our favorite sides were the Mac and cheese, fries, and greens though honestly the okra was perfectly made. The potato salad and slaw and beans were our least fave but still really good. Our server Elyjah was super friendly and attentive. Our tea never got over half empty and he even gave us lids to take our tea home. We did order dessert to go but because we are stuffed, we'll have to eat it later. The Final Verdict: 6 out of 5 - Go to Gus's and try that fried chicken on the bone or tenders. If you like great chicken, you'll be very pleased.

Gus's is the perfect place when you are craving delicious fried chicken! They have some of the best fried chicken in town at such great prices. You can't go wrong with any of the plate options. I went with the 3 Piece White. Perfectly fried chicken with the right amount of kick. They have tasty sides as well. I really enjoyed the fried okra and slaw. Great service and tasty food, what more can you ask for? I can't wait to come back again!

I just haddd to go and see what the hype was about.. and let me just say it wasn't so bad! The fries were good, and I think they were fried along beef tallow or something.. cause they were good af w/o the seasoning lol The chicken was good too! And honestly everything taste good! Now I wouldn't go as far, as to say that it's the best / world famous.. but it's up there! If you go to this location there's a lot of parking.. I mean a lot lol! There's no drive thru or anything like that so be mindful.. I would have also appreciated if my meal came with a drink but hey.. maybe I'll try next time and order a drink

It's been a minute since I last made it to Gus's, but man--it was just as good as I remembered. The chicken came out hot, crispy, and fresh, exactly how fried chicken should be. Tonight we started with the fried okra, which was a great warm-up before diving into our mains--2 dark chicken pieces and 3 tenders. Every bite was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The inside has that cozy southern feel, like you're stepping into a spot that's been part of the community forever. Our waitress was sweet, attentive, and full of good southern hospitality, which just made the meal even better. If you're looking for quality fried chicken done right, Gus's is definitely worth the stop.

Good, Great, the best. Who don't like Gus Fried chicken ?chicken hot and fresh. made to order. The chicken does have a slight spice kick however the flavor is unmatched.. Fried chicken to 10th power. I love white meat the breast was juicy and flavorful the mac and cheese was cool. The beans had flavor and the cole slaw was cool.Ok Gus is the truth . I tried the location in the airport. The baked beans were good. Sweet, but good. I didn't too much enjoy the chicken. I recognize this is inside an airport, so my expectations were lowered, but considering Hattie B's is also there, I wouldn't go back. The only downside to Hattie B's is the line. Gus's had no wait.

I was on my way to Fiesta Mart when I found this location! I had to stop to try. We were a party of two, dropped in for dinner on Easter. We were promptly greeted by a friendly server. We ordered: 3 wings plate w/double fries 3 pcs dark w/Mac & cheese and fried okras one piece catfish - my only complaint, for $4 this was very small but flavorful The food was great, sports channel playing on TV's, everyone was friendly, plenty of parking, and clean restrooms. I will be back again for the fried chicken plates!

If you want some DELICIOUS Fried Chicken go here. I first tried them in Atlanta. Let me say don't go in expecting a long menu or to get anything but chicken. Every time I have gone the food has come out hot. There is nothing fancy here. JUST GREAT FRIED CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!! The side a good as well. But the chicken is the star.

I originally found this place in Detroit and when they opened here in Houston I was there on opening day. The chicken is spot on. Tasty, hot and fresh. The service is friendly and fun. Happy to talk and be interactive. What's new as of this review is a great chicken sandwich that they are putting on the menu. Yeah you can get something else but this one is perfect. Pickle and light mayo with a brioche bun. The sandwich is a great addition to the menu. If sandwiches aren't your thing their chicken strips and dark and white meat fries checked is fantastic. Take the time hit this location and enjoy.

For starters, I've been here multiple times with family and friends and we all really have enjoyed our meals each time. We like coming here because the food has also been fresh and hot, and the restaurant offers a cozy southern style dining space. The chicken is great, not over cooked or greasy and perfectly seasoned. At times can come out spicer than other time but typically it is very mild, I personally love a little kick to it. I recommend the fried green tomatoes unfortunately I did not get a picture before we gobbled them up, we love them! The sides have also been flavorful and fresh as well. The iced tea is also delicious. The service is also friendly and quick.

Let's just say I can see why they are world famous for their friend chicken. We walked here from our hotel to get dinner since it was close by, and it was the best decision we ever made. The staff were friendly and ordering food was easy. We ordered our food to go, and it was prepared in a timely manner. I ordered the 3 chicken tender plate with coleslaw and beans. Every single item on that plate was delicious and super flavorful. My husband got the two piece dark plate and he really enjoyed his food as well. Definitely a family ambiance. What I really liked was when our food was packed to go, they included all items inside of the bag that may be need for the meal. We had ketchup, ranch, fork and napkins without having to ask for it. I recommend this place.

Our server, Alyssa, was pleasant and took great care of us. I had the 4 piece dark chicken plate with seasoned fries and coleslaw. The fries were great, the coleslaw was sweet and creamy (which is how I like it) and the chicken was perfect. It has a little bit of a kick which was enjoyable. I took 2 pieces home for lunch the next day. My dinner guest got a tenders plate with mac and cheese and baked beans. She took 2 home too. She liked it all. We will definitely return.

As far as comfort food goes Gus's is a good as they come. Its some of the best fried chicken which is saying alot in houston. From all the times I've indulged in this delicousness I've yet to have a piece of chicken that is dry. Most of my orders are to go and the staff is always accommodating and friendly and the few times I had some questions on my order the staff went out of their way to make sure I was happy with my order. If you you really enjoy fried chicken and you haven't tried Gus's yet its a must have. I highly recommend them for lunch or dinner!

Hey meat-eaters, who doesn't love good 'ol fashioned fried chicken? Known for their chicken (I mean, it is in their title) Gus claims to be world famous, and I'd say to do their best. How would I compare it to other Fried Chicken restaurants, it is slightly above average, but you be the judge. The chicken has good flavor and is tender and juicy. If you are not for the spice then think before ordering because Gus's chicken leans to the peppery side giving a bit of a kick. I preferred the wings so that is what I selected for my to-go order. Each meal comes with their signature baked beans, slaw and a slice of white bread. I traded my slaw for the mac and cheese. The baked beans were flavorful, but what makes me give this a 4 rating was the mac and cheese - I was disappointed. The cheese was present, but the flavor exited stage left. It was bland to say the least. For around $16 the portion size was just ok for this meal. This location sits across the street from NRG and is a perfect spot of looking for a place to grab a bite before a game or event, with a good amount of options on the menu. They have a pleasant team of people working there, which is a plus. The restaurant offers a clean atmosphere with a backyard/wanna-be sportsbar vibe. They offer plenty of parking and seating inside, but limited seating on their patio. If taking your food to-go, ordering is easy, but, be patient in waiting for your order especially if there's a line. For me, I received my order in about 10 mins. Gus's is worth the try if you're feeling spicy and in the mood for fried chicken, check it out. Enjoy!

They do chicken. Period. If you like slightly spicy fried chicken, this is a good spot to hit. The sides I had were passable, but you come here for the chicken. The service is good, my waitress was very pleasant and the seating is comfortable with old school red & white checkered table cloths.

We LOVE Gus's. The first time we had it was years and years ago in Austin and we've been driving to the Houston Heights location for years but this location on Kirby is just as good, if not better. Our 20 piece chicken platter was perfectly crispy, juicy, and spicy. The cole slaw is my favorite side but fyi it's very sweet. The potato salad too. Alyssa/Elissa (sorry for misspelling!) was the perfect waitress for our table. Perfectly attentive and anticipatory of everything we needed. She took great care of us and I hope we get lucky enough to sit in her section again next time!

I ordered online for pickup and only had to wait a few minutes before my order was ready. The chicken came out hot, crispy and juicy. It was some of the juiciest chicken I think I've ever had. The sides were also very good. The interactions I had and observed from the staff were all very friendly. They had everything organized and did a great job keeping the orders flowing. The place was clean and laid back. I will for sure be returning to Gus's for more of this delicious food and recommend you try them out!! My total for a 2 piece plate (comes with 2 sides) and an extra side was $21.64

Today, I give 5 stars to Dinisha and the Kirby location. Dinisha rated 5's in serving, accommodating, and keeping the lobby clean and presentable. I felt catered to and my tea cup was never empty. The food was on hot and flavorful along with prompt service. I'm so appreciative and invite others to patronize Gus's! Ask for Dinisha and sit in here area! I was introduced to Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken some years ago at their Washington Avenue location and have always had a pleasing and satisfying experience through food, service, and ambiance. One of the assistant managers informed me about the Kirby location across from NRG. I was a huge supporter and informed others who had amazing service experiences, too!

Get on over to Gus's for some serious fried chicken with a kick. The chicken skin bursts with flavor, and I basically stripped every speck of meat from the bones like a ravenous vulture and I don't care if people were staring or not. The Mac and cheese and baked beans were totally satisfying, and props to the staff for treating this first timer like a regular. I will definitely return!

Had a late lunch with some of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. Chicken breast was cooked to perfection. Crispy skin but still tender and moist.

I would give the restaurant 5 stars for our server alone! He was AWESOME! I wish I had asked his name. I had no idea this place existed until a friend of mine took me to eat there. I didn't even know they were a chain until I started reading Yelp reviews. This location is in the MIDDLE of a parking lot, so it can be hard to miss. It is across from NRG off of Kirby (you can also access it from other streets if you are familiar with the area). It is located in the same parking lot as Fiesta. I hear the other Houston location can be packed with tricky parking, but you won't have that problem here. Parking is a breeze! Now, no one told me the chicken was a bit spicy, I don't handle spicy so well, but I could totally tolerate it! They have a la cart items, sides and plates. Also a kids menu and a desert menu. There are portion sizes for everyone. I ordered the 2 piece white, which comes with coleslaw and beans. Everything was GREAT!

The name says it all "hot & spicy". I ordered the two chicken breast special with baked beans and coleslaw. The chicken must be fried-to-order because my first bite into the golden brown chicken breast that graced my plate released in a rivulet of scalding hot juices. The chicken was juicy and seasoned to the bone... not fiery hot, just thoroughly seasoned. The sides were solid; nothing to write home about, but complemented the chicken well. I washed it down with a lemonade that was as sweet as "all get out". I like the decor of the restaurant, ...Memphis, TN meets Houston, TX. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was packed. Everyone was polite. The last time I visited this locale, Frenchy's was launching a series of franchises and this was a flagship location. Percy Creuzot was being recognized for the living legend that he was. From Memphis, TN (S. Front St.) to Houston, TX (Washington, Ave. and Kirby Dr. locations), Gus's offers a consistently good dining experience.

When I walked in to place my order, there was absolutely no customer service. The Hispanic man in the pick shirt has no customer service skills at all, and I'm not sure if he's the manager. As though he were doing me a favor, he took my order. I was going to wait in my car, so I asked him how long it would take for the food to be ready, and he said maybe 15 minutes. Not only was it not ready when I returned in fifteen minutes or less. They weren't busy at all, as there were only about eight patrons present. The food wasn't ready when I walked back in so I waited and when it was ready I was notified by a head nod that it was my order, he sat it on the counter and walked away. Richard is the one who doesn't have customer service skills. I haven't tasted the food yet but I know I won't be back.

BEST FRIED CHICKEN! Truly the best fried chicken I've ever had. The place wasn't as busy as it should be but I'm totally okay with that!!! The service was great and fast and you get sides like beans and Cole slaw. If you haven't tried this chicken place or are not sure, definitely do it. You won't regret it. As you can tell by my photos, I tend to get the same thing lol. The chicken is still fresh, hot, juicy and crispy. Whenever im in the mood for a nice southern lunch and im in the area, I will eat here.

Super juicy fried chicken. Spicy, but not over the top. Just a nice kick and a great fry. The sides are good, but not special. But the chicken is outstanding. Hands down top 3 I've ever had, and that includes fine dining places. Two of us were well fed at $25.00 total. The place is cute. Danisha, our server was excellent. Very attentive and great personality. We'll be back.

Had to try this Texas Legend. The restaurant is very quaint and gives you a down home feeling. The staff was very friendly and informative. I ordered the following food: Fried Okra - $8.25 2 Piece Dark (Thigh & Leg) Plate- $12.00 Coke - $3.00 Pecan Pie - $4.75 Scoop Ice Cream - $2.25 Total $30.25 The okra was good, fresh and service with ranch dressing. The chicken was good, had a little spice to it. Skin was crispy and good to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy. The coleslaw was fresh and had a good flavor. The baked beans resembled a Campbell's or other canned sweat bean. The pecan pie was served hot and the side scoop of vanilla bean ice cream came in its own dish. Overall the food was GOOD, the service was Great, the price was..PRICEY for the amount of food received. I'm not sure I would revisit for the PRICE paid, but the food was good. Three stars given food was a 3/4 but the price dropped it to 2/3...this three stars.

Honestly one of the best places I've had fried chicken. It's in the middle of a shopping center. There's lots of parking. I ordered at the counter and they took my name since I ordered to-go. I went after the lunch rush and it didn't take long to receive my food. I ordered a two piece dark chicken plate with fried okra and slaw. They pack napkins, hot sauce and ketchup in your bag. The chicken was so crisp, lightly battered, hot and fresh. The meat was tender and juicy. Okra was fire, hot crisp and delicious. Slaw was what you needed to eat with the chicken, cooling and crunchy. My only complaint was that I got honey mustard sauce too, they charge for it and it wasn't included. I know I should've checked my order prior to leaving but other than that I will return for more of this famous chicken.

The chicken is juicy, the Mac n cheese slaps and the potato salad has a ton of unique flavor! Can't go wrong with the sweet tea and excellent service. Plenty of seating. I'd skip the sweet potato pie but I like my pie extra sweet.

I rarely give out five stars but this place was awesome! Nash my server was cool and funny. She's very nice so if you get her consider yourself lucky. The food was great. Get the wings with Mac and Greens. You won't be disappointed. The only thing that was just ok was the sweet potato pie but I won't hold that against them. All in all I'm going to sleep well tonight and if I'm ever back this way I'm hitting this spot again!

We just finished a wonderful dinner at Gus's Fried Chicken off Kirby. Eli our waiter made some excellent suggestions and was very informative & attentive. We got a half a chicken with two sides; mac & cheese, and fried okra. It was the perfect combination. The chicken was delicious as well. We will be back.
