"Meanwhile, Washington Business Journal reports that a replacement is already in place for the property at 1825 14th Street NW. Atlanta tapas place Gypsy Kitchen is expanding to D.C., and WBJ has sources saying it will land in the Masa 14 space sometime in spring or summer of next year." - Gabe Hiatt

Every dish was good but nothing was great. There wasn't any dish that was memorable or unique or stood out, it just feels like they're trying to please the masses. They talk about being influenced by all these different cultures but every dish was uninspired. The dishes also tended to feel heavier than typical Mediterranean food. We also ordered a bottle of wine that took over 20 min to arrive but at that point our meal was over - our server apologized and said it was because she had to cover a number of sections, but that was not a legitimate excuse for me.

Google
Upscale mediterranean fusion restaurant with great dishes or shareables. The cocktails are excellent. The service was polite and fast. The flavors are fresh. We shared 3 dishes gluten free, but they did not have gluten free desserts. I will go back soon! Lovely atmosphere.

I really enjoyed brunch at Gypsy Kitchen. The service was pretty quick, especially considering we had a party of 9. The food is really reasonably priced and tasty. The rooftop patio is also very cute and perfect on a nice spring day.

I’ve been wanting to visit this restaurant since I moved to DC, and we finally went for brunch. LOVED the ambiance and that was the main star of the visit, service was on point, the food not so much. I got the Salmon Cavlax, my partner got French toast and our friend got the chicken sandwich, I’d say all of us were disappointed in what we got. See the pictures and you be the judge, underwhelming food for the price and for the places reputation with that being said we would give them a second chance for a different menu and see if the experience changes.

We enjoyed happy hour before a show at the Lincoln and thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks. Our party had the old fashioned, the espresso martini, and the wallflower. All were delicious. When ordering, I asked the bartender for his recommendation and he directed me well when I provided preferences. We tried a selection of happy hour items, including the chicken kebab, kefta burger, GK trio, and tomato salad. He also inquired about allergies, and inquired with the kitchen, which is awesome. All items were delicious, honestly I can't even pick a standout. Since it was happy hour, we paid less than $100 for 4 adult drinks and 4 generous appetizers which was a fantastic deal. We will definitely be back!

Google
Unfortunate that the food and service didn't compare to the ambiance. Ambience 4-5 stars. Food and service were a strict 2 stars. Waited an eternity for food to come out including a cheese board and oysters (no steaks ordered). Server was friendly but uncomfortably timid. Cocktail and mocktails - could have gone without. Don't have any particular dishes to recommend. The jam that came with the cheese board was the only thing worth asking for more of. If anything, avoid ordering the mussels as to avoid staying there all night. I would recommend going in for the ambiance at the bar but not much else. Was excited to try this place but disappointed at the end of the night. Would not take a first date here but could make for a start-of-the-night cocktail. For perspective, we had a reservation for 2 on a Thursday night at 7:30pm. Sky deck seating available but we sat inside. Originally a two-star review but went back and changed it to three stars given that the manager is really trying to make a difference here. I trust his genuine desire to improve!

Google
Four of us shared several small plates. Food was delicious - the flatbread and hummus...amazing! I'm always in search of the ultimate Cosmo, and this place did not disappoint! Sangria was delicious, as well. All 4 of us loved this place!

Google
Great restaurant, we very much enjoyed our dinner. We ordered hummus (yuuumm), cauliflower so tasty with intricate flavors sweet, spicy, delicious. My husband and I love Branzino fish, so we had to order that and it was soooo good. A whole fish cut butterfly, charred and grilled with a garbanzo bean cucumber salad. Our meal ended with lemon olive cake, which reminded me of jiffy cornbread 😋, but it was good. The service was great, food comes out quickly...before we took the last bite of food, the next course was on the table. Two thumbs up all around 👍🏾 👍🏾.

Yelp
Cool spot! Vibes are great, lots of different areas and the atmosphere was what our group desired. The service was excellent (Josh). Good recommendations, the food was on time, and the table was consistently getting cleared and re-set appropriately. Bar was a little behind for a Thursday night, but to be expected. Cocktails - all were great! Our table loved the Gypsy Dragon. I enjoyed the Canela y Sol too. Apps - Hummus was very very good. Potatoes - average. Pork belly, quite good. Squash was disappointing - it was too small and not worth it. Cauliflower was pretty solid too. Mains - Lamb was fairly good. Our cut was particularly fatty which was a little surprising for lamb but still good. The chicken was a little underwhelming. I'd recommend overall!

Yelp
I got the Moroccan pancakes, shashouka, zaatar pita, and a latte. Food and ambience was good and their brunch plates are priced well for what you get in my opinion. I really liked the pita and Moroccan pancakes. The latte was pretty average and not worth $5 at all. The service was okay, but our server was a little sassy. No issues with the order though, and he was mindful of our dietary restrictions.

Yelp
The place was hopping on Friday night so we ended up sitting at the bar. Some of pictures of the food came out blurry so was not able to post but everything was yummy. It was super loud so if you're looking to have a conversation, you'll look to yell at your party. We had the Arroz Caldoso, Porto belly, hummus and outopus. For drinks, we had wine and Veni, Verdi, Vici which definitely tasted like aperol!

Anitra T.

Yelp
It's pretty safe to say this place BLEW my mind! From the moment we walked in, until the time we left the experience was a true 5 stars! The decor is captivating, the food is creative and flavorful, and the service was kind, prompt, and intentional! My only complaint is that I had my mind set on dishes I wanted to try based on Yelp reviews, only to find out it's a revolving menu! So, I'm not going to tell you what to try, because it might not be there when you read this. Lol I can't wait to return to DC so I can enjoy a Gypsy Kitchen encore!

Suellina F.

Yelp
What a great recommendation from the bar tender at the brewery up the road. This was perfect while on our visit to DC. We had the best drinks, and the most tasty food. The atmosphere was pretty and upscale but casual. The prices were not out of line at all. The bartender was kind, and helpful and very attentive. You should give this a try for sure!

Lily S.

Yelp
Some of the best pita in dc!! Seriously the hummus and pita here is addicting. The lacquered chicken is also a standout, and I love the crispy cauliflower. This is such a fun place for drinks and small plates.

Keith H.

Yelp
On 14th street. Inside and protected rooftop eating. Classy layout and excellent service. Lots of good advice. Tried brunch at 1pm. Tunisian chicken on roll, humus and tomato salad starters. Good draft beer choice and excellent Sangria

Marcus H.

Yelp
Enjoyed Gypsy Kitchen and immediate shoutout for the decor/design. Felt comfortable but thoughtful. All in all I can tell I'll have to return to get more the complete experience. Felt like it was lacking something even though I've only heard high praise for the restaurant. Our server Drew was friendly and did a great job explaining/recommending menu items. I could tell he really knew the menu and enjoyed the food. Ordered the shakshuka, dirty patatas bravas, and Greek yogurt parfait. The shakshuka was my favorite even though it was mushroom heavy. For drinks we got the martini espresso-ish and la murga which were both good. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other menu items.

Yelp
Without a reservation at 8:30PM on a Saturday we were told that only the open seating at the downstairs or upstairs bar were available to us (no option to wait for a table even though the online reservations had availability at 9:15PM). The downstairs bar was full so we went upstairs and found seats together (for 2) at the end of the bar near the employee kitchen entrance. The bartenders were loud, the music was loud, and the other customers were loud. I had to semi-yell to my partner next to me whenever we wanted to talk. They have fun cocktails and it was enjoyable watching the bartenders at work. They look unhurried but practiced. We ordered the baklava cast iron pie. The menu only lists vanilla gelato as an ingredient. It took a good 25 minutes for the item to arrive and when it did we were dismayed to see it had been doused in cinnamon. It was dry and tasted more like a pie than baklava. There weren't many layers in the pastry itself and it was a walnut mix. All of it just tasted like cinnamon and we each took one bite and were ready to throw it in the trash. If you like baklava steer clear of this dessert. If you like apple pie - you might get a kick out of this if you don't mind the dryness. It was a fun idea that lacked in execution.

Yelp
My friends and I tried a variety of the small plates at Gypsy Kitchen, including their hummus, falafel, cauliflower, and pork. We also ordered some of their specialty drinks, which are about $15-20 each. Their dishes were good, but I was let down by the portion size. The cauliflower dish had at most 6 solid pieces of cauliflower to split amongst our group. For the price we paid, the portions were tiny. There are a lot of Mediterranean options in DC, and I think this place sits at the middle. The dishes are layered with fun flavors, but it is not the most bang for your buck.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch which would be my second time eating at this establishment. First time was dinner during restaurant week. Gypsy Kitchen is a decent spot but does very little to stand our among the many restaurants that you will find on 14th. Food is good but the menu is limited. We got the shakshuka and pancakes. The Shakshuka comes with a small piece of toast thats barely enough of a portion for one person. Pancakes were good and left me wanting more. The cocktails were again good but nothing unique. They were your typical brunch cocktails with a lack of a twist. The ambiance is probably the best part about the place. If you can manage to get upstairs seating, I highly recommend it. Service was solid, I was seated immediately and the waiter brought out my food very quickly. Overall Gypsy Kitchen is a decent spot but I wouldnt be in a rush to go back with all the other options in DC

Sabrina G.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go here for a while. I planned to go for my birthday for happy hour but couldn't wait. Came here on a Friday after work and it wasn't packed. I was seated right away upstairs at the bar. The bartender was great! Food and drinks ordered: Sangria 5/5 Crispy potatoes 3.5/5 Chicken 1/5 (it was too grilled for me but had great flavor) Hummus and pita bread 5/5 It's so beautiful inside. I can't wait to go back to try other things from their menu.

Wendy K.

Yelp
Amazing food, beautiful energy, fantastic service and a wonderful space. All the reviews I read accurately described this yummy restaurant. So glad for vegan options! Highly recommend!

Sami A.

Yelp
I've been to Gypsy Kitchen a handful of times and it never disappoints. I've been for both brunch and dinner and their food options are slightly limited, but I think that allows them to really perfect what they have on the menu. Their cocktails are also incredible - for brunch, the coconut espresso martini is soo yummy & the Murga for dinner is also excellent! ALSO - their pita bread is honestly the BEST pita bread. I could eat just the hummus and pita bread alone for a meal. It's so fluffy, comes piping hot and the zaatar is the perfect touch. The ambience is also gorgeous - dinner is usually busy and lively and the aesthetics of the restaurant are beautiful. It's definitely a DC staple for me!

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Gypsy Kitchen. We sat outside and really enjoyed the chill ambiance. The service was great, our server being attentive and knowledgeable, and the food came out quickly. The food was phenomenal. We devoured everything, except for the Baklava and the mushrooms. The Baklava didn't taste like Baklava and the mushrooms just wasn't what we were expecting but other than that, can't go wrong with any of the other dishes. Highly recommend Gypsy Kitchen for a nice evening out with friends!

Yelp
Made reservations here for 6 pm on a Sunday for the rooftop patio. It wasn't very busy when we arrived and the hostesses greeted us immediately. The downstairs has a very Mediterranean vibe with intimate lighting, dark wooden features, and cozy seating. Upstairs there's an indoor bar that looked like it had some more light coming in from outside (it was still daytime) and of course the rooftop had plenty of light. During our meal as it got colder, they actually turned on a garage-like door (but quiet) that nearly enclosed the patio which was cool to watch. There's a lot of real plants everywhere as well. We weren't starving (which I regret) so we only ordered 3 small plates to share. We got the hummus, patatas bravas, and prawns. The service was very friendly and attentive. Food was ready pretty fast (it wasn't very busy). Everything was delicious!! The hummus was so good and the fresh puffy bread went so well with it. Not a hummus you'd find in a grocery store! The patatas bravas had really great flavor but I wish it was more crispy. I prefer extra crispy patatas bravas and these were pretty soft. The prawns were perfectly cooked and very Smokey. Would 100% come back again. I want to try the other items so bad! Will definitely come more hungry and won't eat lunch so late. Such a cute place as well with friendly staff.

Nicole W.

Yelp
I want to know what's going on in their Kitchen... because this place is awesome! First, the ambience and aesthetic was instagram worthy. They have an upstairs and downstairs (happy hour at the bars). There is plenty of seating and didn't need to have a reservation for happy hour. Second, the happy hour food and drinks were a good bang for your buck (considering DC prices). I tried the espresso martini and my friend had the spritz. The spritz was a bit too sweet for my taste. We had the plater and the hummus and naan was amazing. I would go back for the naan alone! Overall, this place checks all the boxes aesthetics, service, food and drinks.

Maria K.

Yelp
Great service that accommodated our 8 person table. My partner and I got several plates to share, the cauliflower, patatas bravas, and lamb. Portions are definitely on the smaller side, but the food is so flavorful! Also loved the La Murga 2.0 cocktail. Atmosphere of the restaurant is cute and lively.

Maureen G.

Yelp
Food and service here were excellent. It's located in a nice neighborhood. There's outdoor seating and rooftop seating and they have a really huge bar and it's got a nice vibe to it.

Marcus G.

Yelp
This is my second time visiting this place. And this time it was the perfect vibe. I recommend getting a reservation and always ask for the rooftop if you can. The drinks were definitely good and for brunch I had the burger and my date had steak frites and they were both delicious. The staff is attentive and communicate it well.

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 Service: 3./5 Came in early April on a Saturday. Rating also considers price. Hummus bil lahme: 5/5. Yes, as others have said, the bread that comes with it is amazingly soft, warm, and fresh. Mushroom Toast: 4/5. Umami! Would've liked a steak knife or other substantial knife compared to standard butter knife to eat with this. Another restaurant we frequent does this for a similar dish with thick bread, and it works well. Beef kebab: 4.5/5. Full of spices and flavor, would've liked a small side of bread or rice with it. Tirokroketes: 2/5. Lukewarm, thick and bland. Not sure what's the hype for this. Broccolini: 4.5/5. Very good. Scallops: 3.5/5. Nice chili oil, puree, and charring on the outside, but the pieces are so big so the ratio from char to soft and less interesting meat is low. Basque cheesecake: 3.5/5. Liked that the cheesecake itself wasn't overly sweet, but without the strawberry jam would've been quite bland. Service details: Would've liked the table wiped after dinner portion, at least one new set of plates for the 6 tapas we got. Service in general a little slow. Didn't appreciate that the Sunday payment app was the only way to pay and had to pay a small service fee for it, even after I asked for a credit card machine alternative. Had a reservation at 6:30, got text at 6:17 that my table was ready, and arrived at 6:29 but had to wait about 10 min for my table as other parties that arrived after me got seated.

Kiara N.

Yelp
I'm happy I was able to try Gypsy Kitchen while I was in the area. I dined on a Sunday evening with 5 other companions. We had reservations and were able to take a seat as soon as we arrived though it wasn't packed. We sat in the back by the kitchen which has been my new favorite seat in the house where I can watch the line. This spot was the perfect nightcap to the 2-restaurant tour with this being the first spot. For the table, we had the Green Goddess, Hummus bil Lahme, Falafel and Crispy Cauliflower. Everything was spot on! Though, as I write this I now realize the cauliflower wasn't crispy, at least I don't remember it being crispy. The hummus may have been my favorite though. I also ordered the Canela y Sol which was amazing! So amazing I had two. Oh and our server, Jose was top-notch. His energy, customer service and recommendations were superb. It was a wonderful experience; we chose wisely.

Kristina D.

Yelp
Great food, great service (the bartenders were excellent with their recommendations) and a very beautiful space! Went for dinner and ended up getting full from the small plates. Will definitely go back to try the entrees!

Jackie S.

Yelp
I enjoy tapas-style restaurants because I can try so many more foods . I loved the variety of cuisines available here! Service was friendly and attentive and they let us sit in their covered (outdoor-ish) patio with a heating lamp when we requested it. But warning that the wind got in despite the covering and some bits of leaves would blow into the table. My favorite dishes: - Moroccan spiced duck - tender, fatty, juicy, and delicious. The butternut + farro were a good balance for the duck - Hummus bil lahme (lamb shoulder) - the za'atar pita that came with the hummus was soft and yummy, the lamb was tender, and the hummus was delicious - cauliflower - the tahini and the sauced up cauliflower go well together - fried halloumi - this tasted like mozzarella sticks (who doesn't love mozzarella sticks)

Jazzmyne T.

Yelp
This was a great Friday night treat in DC! The traditional Mediterranean flavors were outstanding. The Garlic Toum was sweet and spicy and a great addition to the chicken. We sat on the rooftop to catch the evening breeze which added to the ambiance. It had a typical restaurant noise level. Our server Jose was great and attentive. Would definitely come back!

Joanne L.

Yelp
I've been here twice and had two very different experiences. First time I came for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was reasonably packed but the service and food were not it. We got the crispy cauliflower given it's highly recommended on Yelp, the portion was huge but the batter was very thick and lacked flavor. The egg dish was okay but came kind of lukewarm. The hot chicken sandwich though was fantastic - nicely fried to crispy, with a delicious tangy sauce and slaw. It seemed like our server was having an off day. They kept adding water to my iced coffee and I had to get it replaced twice. After the disappointing first time, I didn't come back for a long while. But I kept hearing nice things about their dinner service so decided to give it another try. And it turned out to be amazing. The place again was packed during Friday dinner time but our server was very welcoming and attentive. Love love the Canela y Sol. Get the bread with literally anything, hummus or labneh, so good we had to get another one. The beef kebab was cooked nicely medium rare, very nicely seasoned, and came with a delicious curried couscous. Do not skip the Basque burned cheese cake, such a rich and creamy texture, simply divine.

Lily B.

Yelp
Gypsy kitchen has an excellent happy hour available on the rooftop, at the bar and in high top bar table section. We both had the espresso martini which was light and refreshing ($8). We then split 3 dishes between us, which ended up being plenty of food. I would reorder everything we got and want to try the spritzes!

Angel P.

Yelp
We came here when happy hour started and it was great. Only the upstairs bar was open for happy hour but then the downstairs bar was open by the time we left at 5pm. We got the old fashioned, espresso martini and gypsy trio & flatbread. Both drinks were good and we loved the trio. The flatbread was great, well flavored and the spreads were good too. The happy hour is honestly a great deal. We would come back here again! The bartender was great and friendly. You scan the QR code for the menu and it's also used to pay the bill.

Kyra B.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this spot! Small plates are one of my favorites because of the ease of ordering and sharing. The hummus was delicious and the onions absolutely made the dish. The patatas bravas were delicious and even with the sauce stayed crispy. The service was slower, but that is expected for a popular spot. The atmosphere is a cool vibe and the patio was beautiful - it was just a little hot this week! Definitely will be on my list at my next trip to DC!

Neha R.

Yelp
This spot is very chic and has a range of different foods, including several options for vegetarians and a few for vegans. The main downside is it's very crowded on weekends. Came here on a Friday night, and got seated immediately adjacent to another couple. Not a great place for conversation or a date night.

Kristin A.

Yelp
This has been on my list for quite some time so I dragged a friend for an early dinner one afternoon. It was early and was pretty empty so we sat at the bar. Once inside I realized Masa 14 used to be in this space. The bartender got our drinks, put our order in and we didn't see her again for a while. In the meantime, we ordered an assortment of dishes to share: the Seared Halloumi, the Seared Dayboat Scallops, the Crispy Cauliflower, and the Lacquered Half Chicken. Each dish was delicious. The pine nuts on the cheese and the rice with the chicken were particularly tasty. The only thing I didn't care for was the cauliflower. I'd definitely return to try more menu items. I'd love to go back when there are more diners and there's more movement.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
SERVICE: We had to be moved from the front table, to the bar, to upstairs patio, then back down to the bar. Not sure on the exact reason whether it be staffing and such, but that was a little annoying. Service was okay, wish they refilled our waters and checked in a little more often. CRISPY CAULIFLOWER: This comes with lemon tahina, dried fruit relish, caper berry, and pistachio. Enjoyed this and would get this again! HUMMUS BIL LAHME: Served with pita bread, this hummus has roasted lamb shoulder, pine nuts, currents, and radish. Enjoyed this and would get this again! FRIED HALLOUMI: Cheesy fried goodness that comes with honey labneh and pomegranate seeds. Would recommend this! FRIED CHICKEN ALEPPO: This had a little kick to it, and tasted how we expected it to. LACQUERED HALF CHICKEN: Comes with seasonal pickles, spicy pilaf, garlic toum, and harissa. Definitely a little bit of work to cut/bite around all the bones, but flavor was alright. MUSSELS: Overall they were okay. The broth that the mussels were in were a little on the salty side for my preference. The broth also has serrano ham, lemon, wine, and comes with sourdough roll you can dip into the broth.

Mark B.

Yelp
Since our brunch plans were thwarted at the Navy Yard because of a Washington Nationals game, we had to adjust and find a place. I haven't been to this spot in over two years and during dinner time. We were not disappointed during lunch. It was nothing short of perfection. We had steak and eggs, kofta burger, open-faced omelette, patatas bravas with cheese and jamon Serrano bits, and brunch pork belly. We also tried a few signature brunch cocktails. Phenomenal! Service was impeccable.

Kristen M.

Yelp
We recently had dinner at Gypsy kitchen and in a town as busy as dc, we're we're happy to find that we could get a last minute reservation at a reasonable time. We leaned in hard to their small plates ordering the hummus and labne (this was so good!) to start. Go ahead and order the extra flat bread. It's amazing and one is just not enough. We then got the cauliflower and halloumi which to be honest the star of both dishes was the fruit garnish which really complimented to dishes. Our last plate was the croquettas and honestly they just weren't for us. They were basically liquid inside and not super appealing. My only complaint for the night was that they didn't time our plates at all so we literally ran out of space on the table. We were rushing to finishing things rather than enjoy them to make room which was a shame. Overall I would recommend giving them a try!

Chemutai S.

Yelp
I was not expecting Gypsy Kitchen to be as good as it was. Came 2 minutes before happy hour ended and they still allowed us to get happy hour menu. For a starter, we got the lebneh and hummus with pita. The hummus was the perfect texture, and my middle eastern friend said it was pretty good for a restaurant. The lebneh, also really nice. The garnishes added flavor to the already flavorful dip. HOWEVER, the first pita we got had some parts that were not fully cooked unfortunately. Did not want to bring it up to the server, but I do think they would have brought a fresh one instead. The pita was otherwise soft and thick but also evidently had zaatar and oil, it was wonderful despite the uncooked parts. Got a wine spritz that was fairly priced for happy hour and was nice to have with the food. The server was attentive and offered recommendations. As the main, we got the shank and it was tasty. Relatively juicy and salted well, I prefer a bit of tar on the top more than it had but that's just preference. It was very filling for 2 and delicious, no regrets. Inside is absolutely beautiful, was not too loud, and offered a great atmosphere to eat in. Overall, it did not disappoint whatsoever for a fulfilling yet delicious dinner.

Yelp
I was hesitant to come to Gypsy Kitchen for the longest time because I still miss Masa 14. Nevertheless, I finally gave this place a chance, and I'm happy to say that it lived up to the hype. I'm a huge fan of their happy hour, though it does get packed very quickly. Happy hour is both downstairs at the bar and upstairs on the rooftop. The upstairs space is exactly the same layout as Masa, but with cuter decorations. It definitely gives a Mediterranean, boho vibe. Happy hour runs from 4-6 M-F, and includes various wine spritzes, beer, wine, and a couple of cocktails, such as their version of an espresso martini and an Old Fashioned. I love the spritzes. They're all flavorful, very well made, and huge. My favorite spritz is the Giardino, as it's the least sweet, but they're all tasty and strong (for a spritz). All of the drinks range between $6-8. They also have a few food items on the happy hour menu. I've tried the hummus & flatbread, the crispy chicken, and the tirokroketes. I am absolutely in love with the hummus and the delicious freshly made bread that it comes with. I'm not much of a bread person, but this flatbread is unbelievable. Food ranges between $6-10. I am really interested in trying their brunch next, though it looks a bit pricy.

Christina R.

Yelp
Gypsy Kitchen is my go-to small plates restaurant to impress my friends... or treat myself! Every time I go, I am blown away by the food and cocktails. While I am no longer a pescatarian, I do still lean toward veggie heavy meals and Gypsy Kitchen knows their veggies. Their Nomada cocktail is delicious-- rum, pineapple, banana, and lime. A little tropical but not too heavy. For food, I'm partial to their hummus and flatbread (this is some GOOD bread), crispy cauliflower, mushroom toast, seared halloumi (the kumquats give this the best tang), and the tirokroketes. Service is also exceptional, their staff is so friendly and knows their menu well. I've also heard amazing things about their happy hour and hope to stop in for that!

Nil K.

Yelp
We went for our Anniversary dinner and absolutely loved the food and drinks. We were served with complimentary champagne and at the end with a free dessert. We ordered: Drinks- Diablita(10/10) Manzanita(8/10) Maduro(9/10) Food: Hummus(7/10) served with bread, the bread was delicious Crispy Cauliflower(9/10) Tuna Crudo(10/10) Patatas Bravas(10/10) Beef Kabab(7/10) Our server Andres was very patient and friendly. We loved the overall experience.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful food, good* service, great ambiance. This was our second time dining at Gypsy Kitchen, and the food never disappoints. Favorites: the Hummus bil Lahme, Crispy Cauliflower, Patatas Bravas (although I have to point out that they're NOT "crispy" in any sense), and the Croquettas. Not a fan of the griddled Halloumi, despite trying it on both visits: average at best. The Branzino and Lacquered Half Chicken are wonderful. *Now for the negative: when we ordered on this second visit, I asked our waiter if he'd course things out, and he assured us that that would be the case. Of course, everything came out all at once. And, naturally, it was a "computer problem". Come on, Gypsy Kitchen, get your act together. To their credit, they comped one of the small plates. We'll be back, despite this hiccup.

Neha D.

Yelp
1 star - just for the service. Dining at Gypsy Kitchen DC was a curious experience, a blend of fleeting highs followed by disheartening lows. The meal began on a promising note with a small plate of lamb hummus paired with pita--a delightful teaser that suggested a memorable evening ahead. But as we progressed to the main course, the promise faded into disappointment. The lamb, the star of the main entrée, arrived with Brussels sprouts--a pairing that should have been comforting but instead became a chore to finish. The lamb's bitterness and unsettling odor hinted at its questionable freshness, and the absence of salt or any meaningful seasoning was a glaring oversight. The Brussels sprouts, meant to complement, were lackluster and uninspired. The small plates that followed did little to redeem the meal. The kefta was a near-carbon copy of the lamb--a tasteless affair devoid of character. The croquettes, soft and unseasoned, lacked the crisp exterior and rich flavor that makes this dish a tapas favorite. And the cauliflower, though it had potential, was overpriced and served in a portion so small it bordered on the absurd. It's baffling that a restaurant with such glaring inconsistencies can maintain a 4.7 rating with over 1.3k reviews. The meal was, at best, a reminder of what could have been--a missed opportunity for flavor and satisfaction. In hindsight, Barcelona Wine Bar, with its robust flavors and reliable execution, would have been a far better choice. While the service was commendable, it wasn't enough to rescue the evening.

Yelp
My wife and I are trying to catch more happy hour meals and Gypsy Kitchen came highly-rated and recommended. Arrived minutes after happy hour began on a Friday and had the choice of any seat at the bar. We were bummed the rooftop bar was closed for a private event; one of our main reasons for going there. Within a half hour there wasn't an open seat at the bar! We tried all of the spritzes. The botanist was my favorite. None of them were too sweet. The food is exceptional and portions are generous for happy hour. We got the hummus & flatbread, tirokroketes, and crispy chicken briouat. The tirokroketes were the best and reminded me of friend mac and cheese bites. The hummus and flatbread were both great, especially the flatbread. The crispy chicken briouat is good as well, although it was too spicy for my wife. I thought the tomato jam did a good job of cooling things off.

Yelp
I went to a Gypsy in Kitchen to celebrate a birthday dinner we had a great time. All of the staff are so wonderful. All of the small plates we ordered were really good. My favorites were the Fried halloumi and the labneh, I highly recommend those two! The fried cauliflower is just OK in my opinion, but still good. It's a good dish to share with the group as it is on the larger side. The beef kebab has a really strong seasoning flavor, but still decent. I just don't know that I would order that again. The Patastas bravas are also really good! All of the sauce on top of the potatoes is really good. For dessert we got the baklava pie, which is definitely a modern take on baklava. No one at our table really enjoyed it. It was probably are least favorite item but the vanilla gelato on top was incredible. The other dessert we got was the Loukomades, the best way to describe that is a donut hole that's coded in sugar and cinnamon served with a vanilla cream sauce, which is heavenly I highly recommend the Loukomades if you're going to get a dessert. The service was quite quick after we ordered. Our small plates were coming out at a really fast pace, and our server knew the menu really well. Overall, the restaurant is very Instagramable, you can see I took a picture of the lightbulbs. It's a fun spot to go with friends. It's really central off of 14th St., close to other bars and restaurants. The vibe of gypsy kitchen is very cool and kind of hipster trendy. The rooftop is a great vibe. I gave it a four out of five because the beef kebabs were not our favorite. Neither was the baklava pie but overall a really solid dinner place definitely add gypsy kitchen to your list.

Yelp
I called about 30 minutes before we were ready to come here (it was 4:45) to see if they were busy. She said they didn't do walk-ins, so I made a reservation via OpenTable on their website. We got one no problem! First off, the menu on their website was different than the one in the restaurant, just be aware of that. They didn't have several items we were looking forward to. But they still had plenty of selections! The ambiance of this place is super cool and very Moroccan and Mediterranean inspired. Our waiter was lovely and attentive, though he did have some sales tactics when we were ordering that we didn't really appreciate. We ordered 2 kebabs and the hummus bil lahmb. Both of those dishes were absolutely wonderful! He pointed to the larger dishes when we were ordering to try and sway us to pay $30 more...nah. Didn't love that. I got about 2 tablespoons less of couscous than my husband did with his kebabs also. So, I think figuring out some portion nuances could be an improvement. Lastly we got the Basque cheesecake which honestly was just a huge mistake. It was the texture of cake, way too small for $9 and not enough flavor. Our waiter was again, friendly, but we felt a little rushed at the end of the meal, as he popped back when our CC wasn't in the bill holder yet, kind of inching us along to pay and leave. Overall the food here is great and I wish I could have tried a cocktail (wasn't willing to pay $16) and I would return. But, the wait staff needs to slow down a bit and let people enjoy their meal :)

Yelp
A mega hot spot right on 14th! This is "tapas style" Mediterranean food. They recommend 2-4 small plates per person, and the large entrees are shareable too! We loved the seared halloumi, the risotto cauliflower, and the falafel. Super flavorful, traditional, and filling! We also got the green goddess salad, the beef kebab, and the hummus. 6 small plates had the three of us stuffed!! Keep in mind - this restaurant is extremely busy and extremely loud. I've brought my parents here and they had trouble hearing over the boisterous noise of customers, the rowdy streets with sirens and music, etc. However, the service is l excellent-from the host to the bidders to the waiters. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and gave great recommendations! I have yet to make it to the rooftop, but I've heard great things. Excited to come back and snag a spot there!

Yelp
I had the Sombra y sol from the happy hour menu. It was refreshing and tasty. There's elderberry, white wine, and soda. Next up was the Seared Dayboat Scallops. The scallops sit on top of a bed of mashed potatoes bathed in some sauces. It's mildly spicy. There's a layer of chopped asparagus and pickled beets that brings a nice texture. I also had the roasted broccolini. I've never had broccolini prepared this way before. This dish is mildly spicy probably from the chili oil. It sits on an entire bed of labneh. The crispy looking shreds is actually dehydrated egg. Overall, I had a great experience. The food is tasty and different. I can't say that I've had this at another Mediterranean restaurant before.

Yelp
Overall, everything was good here. Good vibes, cute aesthetic. We ordered a few small plates to share: hummus with lamb, patatas brava, kefta, and cauliflower. Amazing service, really good drinks. Standout: the flatbread that comes with the hummus! So, so good! & the service! (Everyone was so nice!) Would come back because of the service and drinks!

Yelp
Late-night strolls...plates to share...and rooftop lounging??? Sounds like a great Thursday night! This place I found on yelp. We wanted a date night and definitely, this place did not miss!!! Food was delicious!! Drinks were doing their thing () and the service...was truly incredible. Inside and out this place is gorgeous. It's perfect for that sexy date night whether 1st date or 5+ years. It's also cute for a girls' night out, but super romantic for couples. Anastasia (hope I spelled it right) by far exceeded all expectations of an incredible experience. I come from the service industry and we all know ppl can be you know whats. She was absolutely warm...hospitable and showed what a smile with service really means. I'd say we'd be back but we aren't from the area. So if you're visiting... check it out. If you're a local...Def try this out

Yelp
I went there for dinner on a Sunday evening. We had a reservation for 4, and were lucky enough to get a table on the roof deck without wait. It was pretty full up there, while they had many open tables downstairs. The roofdeck is nicely set up as they can cover it if needed. The waitress immediately greeted us as we sat down and brought us drinks. We ordered a variety of small and large dishes to share. I am gluten free and they were able to accommodate most dishes for me. The hummus bil lahme came with flatbread, and they brought veggies so I could dip in it too. The meat was lamb shoulder, it came out very tender and juicy. The meat melts in your mouth and is well marinated. This dish was actually my favorite on the menu. A must! The arugula salad was very tasty and exceeded my expectations. The grapes were a nice touch to cut the bitterness. The tiger prawns were ok, nothing special there. They come on a bed of couscous (gluten), so I had to eat around it. The crispy cauliflower was adjusted to be gluten free. They did not bread it, and seared it. I particularly liked presentation of this dish. It is topped with dried fruits and accompanied of tahini sauce (which I though could have used more lemon). The chicken was nice, a bit sweet. It comes with a garlic whip and a red hot sauce. Both sauces were a bit strong to me, overpowering the flavor. The garlic whip was still good though, I used it (in small amounts) on both the chicken and steak. The steak was good, but again nothing particular about the meat. It came with a nice puree. The large dish section was a bit underwhelming. There wasn't enough of a mediterranean touch in my opinion. I personally would have preferred to see kebabs or lamb instead of steak. Overall, I think it's a solid restaurant and it is very reasonably priced. Though I felt the kitchen was a little slow with longer than expected pauses between courses.

Yelp
This beautiful place is filled with tables having good conversations and food. We were happy to experience their dinner. Our favorite items were the hummus and the beef kebab.
