Japanese Barbecue Lands in Denver Soon - Eater Denver

"The Union Station neighborhood lands a new Japanese barbecue restaurant with plans to open soon. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ with dozens of locations from California to Massachusetts and 700 restaurants worldwide slots into 3,000 square feet at Union Denver, home of the new Whole Foods Market. Gyu-Kaku, pronounced GEW-KAH-KOO and meaning “horn of the bull” in Japanese, provides a Japanese yakiniku (grilled barbecue) dining experience. Customers cook over a grill at the center of every table, ordering from a roster of proteins, including Harami skirt steak in miso marinade and certified Angus kalbi short ribs in tare sweet soy marinade. The restaurant also serves noodle bowls, rice dishes, and vegetables, as well as pork dumplings, fried bacon chips, and Japanese fried chicken. Diners can opt for an all-you-can-eat option with 54 dishes available for 90 minutes. Gyu-Kaku hasn’t teased an opening date but is hiring. Expect the restaurant to open for lunch and dinner, staying open late, daily." - Susan Stapleton

This is the downtown LA outlet of the Japanese BBQ chain store Gyu Kaku. You can choose an all you can eat menu and also a set menu. We chose the $200 family meal menu for four. It’s a decent variety of dishes and meats to grill. The meat quality was good but the portion are bit small for those big appetites if you select the set menus. Go AYCE if your group has big eaters. AYCE is higher per person here due to their Japanese style offerings. The dessert included in the Set Menu was s’mores cooked on the cooker. Parking in downtown is horrible so your best bet is to find a fixed price parking lot for around $8 or $10 near the restaurant.

The beef was great. Their garlic rice and garlic edamame were amazing. Took 2 tries to get our drinks, though. If I lived closer, I would totally come back, but otherwise, there were too many options to still try. Our drinks, once we got them, were delicious and strong, but that was a thirsty wait to get em.

I have been to several Gyu Kaku restaurants in the world - Tokyo, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan, LA, - this is my favorite branch so far. Its clean, ambiance was great! Its clearly a newer branch. There were 3 of us and we ordered the Meat Lovers, it was well enough! Great value for money and fantastic service too!

We are visiting my parents in Los Angeles and we had the luxury of being across the street from Gyu-Kaku and we must say the food is delicious but on top of that the service is just top-notch! We literally went 4 times in a week span and every time we went the host to the servers are so friendly, so accommodating, so friendly and really made our experience fantastic! This place is really should be labeled a 5⭐️ star establishment. We went to the one in Philadelphia years ago and it was sub-par but this DTLA location is just amazing! We cannot wait to come back again when we visit LA again. Thank you to the staff and everyone at Gyu-Kaku for such a wonderful dining experience A+++

Google
Decent food, asked for extra spicy ramen, and wasn't even slightly spicy. One person in our group they forgot to punch in the order, so they didn't get food until halfway through the meal. Decent happy hour prices. I'd give the ramen a 7/10 on taste.

If you are like me, then you would know how stressful it is to find restaurants after 3PM on Thanksgiving🫠! Thankfully, Gyu Kaku is an exception to this pattern! The food is mouth-watering, finger-licking good🤤! I enjoyed every bite; it was so delicious that even the salad 🥗 didn't feel like a side dish! Customer service was amazing, they would have a specific waiter/waitress to serve you, but whoever you'd call throughout your dine-in experience, they would still serve you and with a cheerful smile👌! What we ordered: - Yuzu Avocado Salad 🥗 (10/10): The vegetables are fresh, and they gave plenty of avocado slices. Although, some people might find this dish to be a little sour because of the yuzu squeeze! - Fried Bacon Chips 🥓 (10/10): These were crispy, juicy and seasoning wasn't too salty! I would argue that this tastes better than the Chicken Kaarage! There, I said it! You can disagree with me, but I stand true to my opinion! - Spicy Beef Bibimbap 🍚 (10/10): There's the non-spicy version if you'd like, but I thought this tasted better since I am a spice lover! The portion was great, rice wasn't soggy, and the beef was juicy! Beef Tongue 👅 (10/10): The slices thickness was perfect! Make sure to flip them repeatedly after every 35 seconds, you wouldn't want burnt meat, would you? Toro Beef 🥩 (10/10): The difference with these toro beef is that they taste sweet, but I would say this dish is one of my favorites! Prime Kalbi Short rib 🥩 (10/10): This is probably my second most favorite dish in Gyu-Kaku! Simply juicy and every bite gave me dopamine release! Kobe style Kalbi Short Rib🥩 (10/10): There is a reason why it's priced so expensively! You could just tell the difference! This is a must try if you decide on going for the A La Carte menu! Overall, this is by far the best Yakiniku restaurant I have ever tasted in LA! If you love Korean BBQ, then you would most likely enjoy Gyu-Kaku! *TIPS: I found the AYCE menu can be a little overpriced, you are better off going for the A La Carte menu, especially when you want the Prime short ribs (which aren't made available for AYCE menu) *

Our first time at this location and it might be our new favorite! Huge interior, clean, looks newly designed. We went around 5pm on a Friday for happy hour and it was a ghost town, but I personally love that! Service was great, food was so fresh and delicious! Must orders: Bistro Hangar Steak, Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, Spicy Pork Belly, Jalapeño Edamame, & chicken Garlic Noodles!!!

Yelp
Tried it here for the first time. AYCE I got the ultimate combo. The service there was great! Servers were awesome. I went there a bit early so there wasn't much people but the ambiance was great also.. not too loud/busy. The side dishes were great (especially) the fried rice in the stone pot The meats I ordered were all seasoned all the beef ones (wish they had some non seasoned) The dessert was fire! Other than that everything was great! Would go there again!

Yelp
Service was attentive from all staff members. We were always checked on and asked if we wanted more items. We ordered the Supreme AYCE option which was $78 pp. I've been to a few GK's and I really liked the ambiance and service of this location. Only thing that's not great would be parking. I reconned the area via google maps and realized parking would be tough. So we took the train lol. Parking can be tough on this street because it's basically restaurant row. Can you find a lot/parking garage nearby? Sure. Highlights we enjoyed: beef tongue, filet mignon, garlic noodles without garlic, harami steak, cold negi tofu, garlic rice, and the lava cake + green tea Things I wouldn't order again: the mushroom medley was overly salted. Tokyo iced tea tasted great but I woke up with a sore throat so it's probably well liquor and not distilled many times.

Yelp
It's been forever since I've been to a Gyu-kaku, and this one by downtown LA was perfect and reminded me why I loved this restaurant so much! We come here during lunch, on Monday to Friday from open to 4pm, they offer lunch specials and have Happy hour pricing for drinks. Lunch combos are under $20 whether if you choose 2 or 3 meat option, and comes with rice, salad, and miso soup - what a steal! My friends and I came here a few times during week day lunch for celebration and it's always a great time here. Good for value as well !

Yelp
Came here for lunch with coworkers for Dine LA experience. For $25, you get an appetizer, two small plates of meat, a choice of your vegetable, and a dessert. For $25, it was definitely worth the money IMO. You also get a bowl of rice, miso soup, and a salad. I was definitely full by the end of the meal. You grill the meat on your own so that was nice too since I can eat and cook at my own comfortable pace. If you work in the area, I would definitely check this place out before Dine LA experience ends.

Yelp
Had a fun time at Gyu-Kaku catching up with a friend. The ambience is not too loud on Tuesday at 6 PM, which was great. The staff were all polite and helpful, clearing dishes pretty quickly after we finished. We ordered the value meal which was plenty of food for two girlies not taller than 5'3. LOL The dipping sauces were great but a bit messy to pour out - perhaps they could use different bottles? It was pretty tasty with the grilled meat though, but I highly recommend flipping over your meat frequently since our meat tended to char heavily and quickly. Not sure if there is a way to adjust how high the flame is, but I noticed for the thicker cuts it was tougher to get an even cook since the surface would burn and the inside still wouldn't be cooked (perhaps ask for a pair of scissors?) Think I definitely satisfied my JBBQ craving for the year. :)

Yelp
So good. Stopped in to have Lunch today. Great lunch specials and happy hour specials. I got the two meat lunch special and had garlic rice and garlic spinach. I also had a mango drink which was a little weak alcohol wise compared to how it usual is. My food was really good as always. I love the sweet soy sauce. Service was good I was checked on and they made sure I had everything I needed. Great customer service! It's in a good location easy for me to find. It's cute inside like all the locations I've been too.

Yelp
An Authentic and Flavorful Japanese BBQ Experience! A great place for dining in and groups or gatherings. I can confidently say that it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting, with beautiful traditional Japanese decor and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The highlight of the evening was, undoubtedly, the delicious food. We were presented with a wide array of high-quality meats, beautifully marbled and fresh. Each table had its own grill, allowing us to savor the excitement of grilling our own food. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive, providing guidance and recommendations throughout the meal. The menu offered a great variety of options, from premium cuts of Wagyu beef to succulent pork belly and tender chicken. The meats were expertly seasoned and marinated, enhancing their natural flavors. The presentation was impeccable, with each dish artfully arranged and garnished with precision. One standout dish was the beef, which practically melted in our mouths. It was a heavenly experience, and truly showcased the restaurant's commitment to using top-quality ingredients. Additionally, the selection of sauces and condiments provided the perfect accompaniment to enhance the flavors of the grilled meats. Apart from the meat selections, there were also a range of tantalizing appetizers and side dishes to choose from. The miso soup was rich and flavorful, and the gyoza dumplings were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy inside. We also couldn't resist ordering the fresh vegetable platter, which complemented the meat dishes perfectly. The service throughout our dining experience was exceptional. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and eager to ensure that we had a memorable meal. They were happy to explain the different cuts of meat and offer cooking suggestions for those new to Japanese BBQ. In terms of value, the portions were generous and reasonably priced given the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience. The combination of excellent food, attentive service, and inviting ambiance made our visit to this Japanese BBQ restaurant truly unforgettable. If you are looking for an authentic and flavorful Japanese BBQ experience, I highly recommend this restaurant. Whether you're a meat lover or simply seeking a unique culinary adventure, this establishment delivers on all fronts. Prepare to be impressed by the outstanding food, warm hospitality, and a dining experience that will leave you eager to return for another mouthwatering meal.

Yelp
My family and I walked into a very friendly environment. We made reservations and there was no trouble accompanying our large party of 10+. There are three types of all you can eat options you can choose from. The more expensive, the more special food items you get. The restaurant serves quality meat so regardless of which option you choose, you'll be getting good food. During our dinner, we did have a few instances where they forgot some food items or did not show up to our table for quite a while. But the times they did come to our table, the service was very genuine and we did not feel rushed to put our orders in. I did try their Tokyo Iced Tea, which was my first time trying the drink. The taste was okay, it might have needed a little more flavor. I wish I could've tried more food and enjoyed it a little more but the waiting kind of "shortened" my appetite lol.

Yelp
I don't know how they do business, I came here around 9PM it's not even peak hour, 1. at first grill didn't work, the manager told us grill works it just because we put veggies on it ( wrap with foil paper) clearly it's not the case. 2. Took 20min to change the seat so we can grill meat,we get our 2nd round order 40min after 3 .no server serving us, we called someone to come here so we can order but no one came , finally someone came he act like he took our order but didn't so we still waited for another good 10min (45min total ) 4. I have a solid reason to doubt that because I am the only Asian in the restaurant and rest of them are not, that's why people around me get their order again and again , I don't get my 2nd round order until 45min and they only gave some of our order... right now I just wanna eat some food and leave never come back.... Ridiculous

Yelp
Came on Mothers Day and it wasnt bad at all. Cute restaurant in the hustle and bustle of 7th street in downtown la. Ive been at other locations but had not visited here. Very nice, spacious and looked like a fancy restaurant. After being seated, we ordered but when our food arrived they did not oil our grill. The server said because we didnt request it. (This is new) Every Gyu Ive been to, they oil the grill so the food won't stick! I showed the server how the meat was sticking and she replaced the grill for us. *make sure you remind them just in case they expect you to request the oil for the grill* Servers and cleaners walked around checking the cleanliness of tables, but not for refills or checking on the dine in experience of the guests. I observed staff walking back and forth looking at each table. I ordered filet mignon, zucchini, pork dumplings, mushroom medley, cheese wontons and garlic rice. Drinks: mimosa and hot sake totaling ($90) our spicy shrimp never came, so I asked for it to be removed from our bill. We had a server but rarely saw him; we communicated mostly with passerby staff. The food was well seasoned outside of the pork dumplings, they were undercooked. I let the server know and he said "oh ok." Then walked away. Lol Our dishes were portioned for sure! Not enough to share two spoonfuls. All portions at this location were 1/4 smaller than the other locations. More noticable was the garlic rice, barely half the bowl was filled; usually, at other locations, you can easily feed two. Maybe they were stretching the produce for the crowd! I may check back again someday and see how they operate on a non holiday.

Yelp
The quality of the food was great. My parents aren't big fan of bbq but loved the dishes here. For instance, we have tried a lot of k bbq like Gen, Gangnam Style Station, and Road to Seoul but they always said how some dishes were better than others. However for this one, they said every single dish was amazing. They said it was on the pricier side but loved it and would definitely come back. My first time at this franchise but in Pasadena was also one of the best places I've tried--and it's cheaper. I would highly recommend it and our waiter was really nice as well.

Yelp
I have been to several other Gyu-Kaku's in the south land, and I must say this DTLA location has been my favorite by far. Maybe it's because it's one of the newest ones out, but the ambiance, decor and service were the best by far. The food as expected from Gyu-Kaku was great as usual. I can't help but to continue to praise on the service from ALL the staff. I had dinner on a Saturday night with reservations at 6:45 PM and expected it to be packed, to my surprise it wasn't. I saw a section towards the back of the restaurant that was totally empty when searching for the restrooms. I'll be making this Gyu-Kaku my to-go Japanese BBQ spot from now on!

Yelp
Today we came here for our first time to try it out and we got a super awesome waiter name Kevin! He explained everything well and lets us know the best options of meats. Kevin your service was great!

Yelp
Came with a party of 4 and ate that for groups of 4 bundle thing. Ok food rating time. Sushi was ok. Salad was good . Miso soup was good. Noodles were ok. All the meats were good, not mouth watering good though like someone described. And the s'mores was also ok. I mean overall food was pretty good and service as well. Price imo ain't worth tho but good first experience.

Yelp
Stopped by today for DineLA (first time participating in dinela!) and it was lovely. For only $25 each we got a house salad, miso soup, one appetizer, two choices of meat, and dessert which I felt was so worth the $. This is a cook yourself spot and I would say the meats weren't the highest quality (some were quite chewy and hard to bite), but overall great chill vibes. I enjoyed the flavors & shrimp. They also served s'mores for dessert which was so cute. Server was sweet, and they have a nice open interior.
google avatar

Yelp
Love Gyu-Kaku. Fun, great staff (a shout out to Justin!), tasty food. Love that you can select what you would like a la carte or as a meal set. That way you can order precisely what you enjoy. Then you get to cook it on the little grill in the middle of the table with your party. It's festive and fun, and potentially can make for a healthy meal or a total splurge. Definitely a fan!
google avatar

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Gyu-Kaku is fast and friendly love the addition here in downtown LA something you usually have to go over to Koreatown to get something like this. However the binomial's rice is delicious, the rice is perfect textured with crispness and flavor. However, I will say I did warn the waiter that I had a rather large appetite skipping lunch today and I actually think the portion size is a bit small. But everything else is fresh and overall good experience.

Yelp
This location was nice and very spacious ! We made a reservation online and were able to get seated pretty quickly. We did the all you can eat menu and I was so happy with how the food came out. I did have to remind them of two of my dishes but they got them out pretty quickly after that!! The server continuously checked on us (I think his name was Justin) and the manager even checked in on us and was walking around to make sure everyone was good. My server even refilled my water when it got half way! I didn't have to ask for a refill. So happy! The busser was also on point. Cleared everything out so quickly. I was amazed at how well the service was and would definitely recommend this location.

Yelp
Gyu-Kaku is our go to whenever we're in Downtown LA. Although a little on the pricier side compared to most KBBQ or Japanese BBQ places, Gyu-Kaku never disappoints. I've been to several places that can be good one day but terrible during your next visit. This place is very consistent with the quality of meat. The options here are plentiful and whatever you order will not be disappointing. Whatever meat you choose, it will for sure be tasty. They also tell you how many seconds or minutes to cook each dish, which is helpful. Your most basic order here will come with seafood, which is nice. To top it off, dessert can either be in the form of AYCE ice cream or s'mores. The only issue I have with this restaurant is that service can be a little slow sometimes. The servers are great, but in terms of how fast they can get the dishes out can sometimes be a little bit of a drag (which is understandable depending on how busy the kitchen is) I believe every time we're here, RJ is the one who takes care of us and he does an excellent job every time. This place is a must if you're in DTLA and want AYCE.

Yelp
I've never done Japanese bbq but I was so excited to try! Wow the meat was so tender and so delicious I can't remember everything w shot but the pork belly and the filet were top! Also the gyoza and the wings were super tasty. They also have alcohol I tried the lychee mojito yum

Yelp
I'm going to be upfront, I know someone who works at this restaurant, so we got 20% off the supreme all-you-can-eat option, and we received excellent service. The restaurant is decorated nicely, and our grill was changed out and oiled frequently. Minus one star because my drink was rather weak. Now, all the meats we tried were very good. I don't even remember everything we ordered, but we got the popular options, like the short rib and premium sirloin. All of the marinated meats were tender and delicious, if a little on the sweet side for me. The spicy shrimp was indeed spicy! All three of their sauces complimented the grilled meats well. I think I especially liked the tangy one. The overall vibe is hip and modern but there was a variety of clientele in the middle of the day on a weekday. I think it's a solid choice in downtown LA for Japanese bbq.
google avatar

Lillian S.

Yelp
Not impressed at all! Came in with a reservation and it took 30 min to get our order even though the limit was 90 minutes. Knowing that it was anime expo they should have better staffed the restaurant. Our waiter was so busy - she ended up bringing out some of our food items. She explained that there was only 1 person doing the meats for a packed restaurant. That's on the restaurant to make sure the place is ready for a huge event and long weekend. The meats were very thick, and juicy &,I did really like that they had s'mores. The other redeeming quality they had was the garlic fried rice. Overall - very chaotic and left annoyed

Yelp
Great food and great service. Open late and was across the street from our hotel. The food was delicious and marinated well. I'm from San Jose where there are aplaces like this but this one ranks in my top 10! I highly recommend it.

Yelp
We wanted some KBBQ but was too lazy to drive to Ktown. Decided to check out Gyu-Kaku for some yakiniku instead. Pleasantly surprised that it also had a DineLA menu for lunch at $25/person. Pretty good value for the amount of food, but quality is not the best. The lunch course was served with half Gyu-Kaku salad, miso soup, and white rice. The salad dressing tasted kinda funky and the miso soup was so watered down and so bland. For appetizer, I got the vegetable spring rolls and it was pretty disgusting. All dough and no fillings. Honestly, I had no clue what's wrapped inside. The dipping sauce did not help with the overall flavor either. As for the meats, I ordered the angus beef ribs, yaki-shabu beef, and filet mignon. It's definitely not the best quality, but it's not horrible. Glad I came here for DineLA since it was significantly cheaper than regular prices.

Yelp
My friends and I have visited twice and have had a phenomenal experience both times. Our servers Justin and Rudolph were amazing and super attentive! Thank you both for taking care of our tables and being so cool! The interior of this Gyu-Kaku location is the nicest we have ever been to and they have great music playlist. (We've visited several other locations) There is a parking structure nearby and a $10 parking lot as well. Now onto the food and drinks... our favorite is the bistro harami hanger steak and garlic spinach. Their house salad is great and we enjoyed angus steak as well. They had bottomless mimosas when we went on Saturday, which was awesome! (included in the ayce option). We ordered the lychee margarita, forbidden punch, and cocomo cocktails and they were all good! Thanks Gyu-Kaku!

Yelp
The food was good and waiters were quick to help, however the meats took forever to come out. My group sat down on a Sunday at 7:30, and we got our first plate of food at 8:15. It just continued to come out slowly during our whole meal. Our waiter told us they only had one meat slicer in the back, but that should've been planned for at a restaurant. Other than that, the waiters refilled the waters on their own, grill changes came right away after we asked for them. The food was good, there's a large variety of meat selection and sides. The sides came out crispy and hot, the rice was well made, not too wet and not too dry. Meats were marinated well A little bit pricey, especially if you get the larger menu options. Hopefully the meat slicer problem was only a one time thing. Good luck if you decide to come here

Yelp
Great food as always, had to make a reservation or wait time varies. Ambiance was chill, service was slower but it was very busy so I understand. Food wise, you can't beat an AYCE spot of this quality.

Yelp
I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant chain since around 2007-08, frequenting various locations in OC, LA, and even Japan. My wife and I are simple customers who appreciate basic attentiveness and consistent quality. Despite occasional service hiccups, we've remained fans, thanks to the thoughtfulness of managers at each location. However, our recent visit for lunch was notably disappointing. Our order was simple: one type of meat with rice. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication about our order and how it was billed. The server seemed attentive as he could be, so we overlooked the minor issue of that and my "hot" sake being served cold. The real issue came at payment. We were overcharged by $24 due to confusion between the lunch and dinner menus. Our original server had advised us to order from the lunch menu, saying it would be better for us, but this ended up being more expensive than our usual order. We expressed our concerns to another server, who was empathetic and went to get the manager. Regrettably, the manager lacked any sense of customer service skills. He was dismissive and unwilling to acknowledge the menu confusion or find a middle ground. His attitude was avoidant or helpful in contrast to the other staff, particularly the apologetic female server with glasses, who exhibited far more managerial qualities. As someone involved in the service industry, I understand the importance of a complete and positive brand experience. It's disheartening to see a manager so indifferent to customer satisfaction, willing to tarnish the reputation of a well-established brand over a minor billing error. Sadly, unless there's a change in management attitude, this will be our last visit to any location.

Yelp
I went for DineLA week with 3 other people & it was ~$25-$30/per person. It was a great deal esp for the high quality of meats. When they say the spicy cucumbers are addicting, THEY ARE ADDICTING. They also give you a bowl of rice, a plate of salad, & miso soup as starters. Would recommend going during lunch hours since dinner prices are $$$.

Yelp
Service wasn't good. Asian male waiter with bangs had an attitude and hardly said anything to us last night. He seemed annoyed anytime we asked for anything, often leaving abruptly after we finished asking without a smile or anything. My sister, who is special needs tried to tip the waiter directly. He looked at her and set the tip on the table, and walked away without saying a word. We also only got 2 menus for a party of 4. I liked the food but unfortunately, it is going to a different location even tho it's close to my home.

Yelp
BROKEN GRILL ISSUES I had lunch here and was pretty disappointed. The grill kept shutting off throughout our meal! At least SIX times it died on us and I had to get up and look for a server to come turn it back on for us. It really killed the mood. Their servers are nice but the girls are young and don't seem to understand customer service- they kept disappearing on us and when the fire went out just smiled and said sorry. I expected them to move us to another table after the third incident but nope. They didn't even offer to take anything off the bill for our crappy experience- so I had to ask! 15% off was it. Never going back. Parking was $15. Meal was $100. Not worth it.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place They mess up your order. The portion sizing is terrible for the amount you pay. The meat you could sell isn't even that good quality. This is your sign not to go to this place.

Yelp
We went there around 10:30pm because google and yelp said they close at 12am. The server told us they were already closed, but the manager looking guy came right after and got us seated. The manager was nice and told us he would be back in a few minutes to take our orders. But the server came right after we opened the menu and rushed us to order. His service was very poor and I was very uncomfortable being rushed for the whole time. We rushed to finish the food and ended up leaving there less than 30 minutes after getting there. Not worth the money at all. Won't come back.

Yelp
I tried Gyu-Kaku for the first time and my experience was amazing! I made a reservation a day in advanced and was seated immediately upon arrival! The only con is that is street only which can definitely be hard. Me and my boyfriend ordered the chefs favorite which was $95 and serves 2 people. We also ordered some items a la carte: tuna poke nachos, cheese corn butter, and the frozen sangria. The chefs favorite was all delicious! Everything was super good and we even had leftovers to take home, though we did order a la carte as well. The sangria was super good and we substituted white wine instead of red, which was a recommendation from our server. My favorite items were the pork belly, nachos, and short rib. They even give sauces to dip the meat in which was super fitting! Overall I'll definitely be back! The price is good for the quality and amount you get! Definitely definitely recommend!!

Yelp
First time at this location; I usually go to the Pasadena location. This location is nicer looking then pasadena and have a full bar, but parking is expensive because there's limited street parking Staff is friendly but food takes forever to come out We waited 40 minutes to be served and the restaurant wasn't full

Yelp
Had a sudden urge for kbbq, but we didn't want to make the drive to ktown and then have to wait an hour + for a table on a Friday night, so the next best thing, Gyu-Kaku! Reservations was easy to make and got seated right away. We decided to go with the a al carte and ordered: beef tongue, skirt steak, galbi and garlic shrimp. With a side of spicy cucumbers and assorted veggies to grill. All were marinated well, not too sweet and over powering. My fav was the beef tongue with their side of scallion sauce. Will definitely be back for some more!

Yelp
This was my first time trying Gyu-Kaku! I had such a wonderful experience. The meats all tasted good and the I appreciated that the staff gave specific cook times for each meat and was able to promptly change the grills to new ones. We ordered the meat lovers set which was a good option as it came with a variety of meat and side dishes. We also ordered the fried dumplings which were good too! I really liked the flavors of the salad as well. Overall, the restaurant was nice and clean and all of the staff were really friendly. I would definitely try Gyu-Kaku again! (Probably at a different location since this one is located downtown and the parking is a bit difficult to find)

Yelp
Went on a date Thursday night and this was my first time being here. You get greeted at the door. Customer service was on point the whole night. Anthony helped us and gave us plenty of suggestions. We did the meat lover bundle. We got the Nigori Sake which was delicious. The meat selection was amazing! Super cute taking turns cooking the meat with my date. After the dinner, you get to make smores! I thought that was the perfect sprinkle on the cake. Great time.

Yelp
We celebrate our birthdays here often. It's good quality meat. A little pricy and smaller portions.

Yelp
This place was pretty good it's not like your typical Korean bbq set ups. You won't come out of there smelling like meat. The little pit where you cook the meal is like sinked into the table so the smoke is collected there through the fume hut and it won't fly all over the place which I thought was quite clever. The portions are way smaller then Korean bbq which I also thought was good. I didn't walk out of there feeling sick because I ate so much hahah My only take away is I disliked they way they set up there menu. They have 3 different tiers you pay and the more you pay the more food plates you can select from which is horrible because I ended getting stuff not on the tier I paid for and had to pay separately for it. Which was annoying. other then that I had a good time I also went around 2pm so it was kinda slow I'm not sure how it would look during the dinner time. I also posted my bill so you can see how much it would cost for two people I hope this helps you!

Yelp
Food was excellent but service and ambiance were the worst experience I have ever had. Let's talk about service: Our barbecue went out over 15 times in the hour and a half that I was cooking our meet on the grill in the middle of the table. We asked the staff a number of times to just cook it for us and serve us. This request fell on deaf ears. Many of the staff were milling around but no one was willing to fire up a grill as another table and serve us. When the bill came I expressed my frustration and asked for a large discount ( 50%) because the experience was just awful. The manager argued that it was impossible to do that and gave us a measly 10% off. And for ambiance: The music was blaring so loud that we couldn't hear each other speak. It is a real shame; such excellent food but I will never go back.

Yelp
Amazing place, amazing service, quick service, amazing food, great vibe, great servers. This was my first time at Gyu-Kaku and it was worth every penny. Don't listen to the old white people who commented that the meat was undercooked because you literally cook the meat yourself, and you can adjust the temperature on the grill lol. Anyways, I will be back this Gyu-Kaku the next time I'm in Los Angeles. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a Japanese BBQ experience with amazing food and helpful servers who will make your experience better.

Yelp
Amazing customer service! Our server Kevin has been an amazing host since we sat down, offering delicious recommendations, to a positive attitude, and all great vibes. Thank you for making our first time experience here a phenomenal one!

Yelp
My daughter and I decided to check this place out on a whim 1. First impressions the staff was friendly and attentive, ambience was nice and neat and the music was decent. 2. Food- we ordered the wontons although I ate it, I didn't really care for it. We also ordered these miso wings, my daughter and I didn't care for it. 3. I didn't try anything else but I would give the restaurant a second chance due to how great their customer service is. 4. Overall give it a shot, the customer service is good and they have a good vibe.

Yelp
Stopped in for a dad/daughter dinner. At first told not taking any walk ins so mad reservation on OpenTable in 90 seconds in front of hostess and said "Look, now I have a reservation!" So strange and stupid. Service after that was awesome by Jocelyn afterwards. Food was really good as well on the All You Can eat. Standouts we're the garlic mushrooms, cold tofu, garlic shrimp and almost all the beef dishes (daughter had two ice creams which are also included along with s'mores for dessert.) Three levels of Price points for the all you can eat, we did the bottom tier which includes 37 choices. Thought it was a good value at $52 for adults and $26 for kids 12 and under. When bill came was for two adults so had to ask to adjust which they happily did. Will repeat here or any of their many LA locations. Giving 4 stars because of almost not getting seated.

Yelp
Went with a group and most got the lunch 3 item bbq. It is a great value and the food is delicious. With larger groups, the bbq is more difficult. My favorite was the spicy pork. Service was great too.
