"H Mart is a national Korean grocery chain, and happens to be one of our favorite stores for produce, imported snacks, and pre-marinated, grill-ready, meat and whole fish. The location in the West Loop also has a food court where you can get dishes like kimchi stew, sushi, bento, and ramen. Oh, and sheet masks. "I checked out the new H Mart in the West Loop, which opened at 711 W. Jackson Boulevard with a celebratory ribbon cutting, music, and dancing; the market brings a full-service Pan-Asian grocer and food court so Chicagoans no longer have to venture to the suburbs. Lunch options include traditional Korean stews, sushi burritos, and Korean fried chicken, and there's a cafe serving Korean and European baked goods and coffee. The interiors favor a more urban design compared with H Mart’s suburban locations and feel more compact, with limited seating—be prepared to pounce on a table once customers leave. "Opening in the West Loop, this new H Mart feels like an urban version of the chain's popular supermarkets and could be a game changer for the neighborhood; it's the chain's first Chicago location (they already have suburban stores in Naperville, Niles, Schaumburg, and Glenview). I attended opening festivities with local aldermen that included traditional Korean dances, a tea ceremony, and a ribbon cutting, and inside the market I found grab-and-go sushi burritos, ramen, and dumplings from three restaurant stalls, communal tables that overlook a bakery with Korean hot dogs and coffee, fresh noodles, dumplings and fish balls for home cooks, a marinated raw meats bar so customers can grab and cook kalbi at home, live seafood tanks with lobsters and more, and a dedicated section for kimchi." - Ashok Selvam
"Expect crowds on opening day: H Mart’s new West Loop Pan Asian market opens Feb. 1 at 711 W. Jackson Boulevard and will feature a food court lineup with many choices including traditional Korean food, sushi, poke, and more. The store has taken over a former office supply space just east of the Kennedy Expressway on Jackson, and H Mart is bringing Cafe L’Ami to Chicago inside the market and will later welcome Royce' Chocolate as well.
