Häagen-Dazs Tapped D.C. Pastry Chef Paola Velez to Create a Super Nostalgic Sundae - Eater DC

"D.C. pastry chef Paola Velez collaborated with Häagen-Dazs to create a special sundae, the PB&J Sundae, which is available this summer in shops across the U.S. The sundae starts with a base of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel ice cream, then adds pretzel pieces, a spoonful of jam, and slices of banana. Sales of the sundae support the D.C. nonprofit Dreaming Out Loud." - Adele Chapin

Google
Phenomenal service. I asked for dairy free options for my mom and he didn’t only list them in an efficient and polite manner. He even offered samples. Very quick and very efficient as well as kind and knowledgeable young man. Someone is training their staff properly and that kid deserves a raise Best experience at an ice cream shop

Google
I had such a great experience! The employees were awesome and the service was even better, especially for such a late hour. I usually avoid going because of the traffic and lack of parking, but I’m so glad I decided to stop by after all these years. It was nice to revisit a place I haven’t been to in ages!

Google
Nice summer flavor! The summer blueberry & lemon ice cream has a pleasant sweet-tart balance—refreshing and not too heavy. The fruit flavors taste natural, and the texture is smooth. A good choice if you like light, fruity desserts.

Great location. Delicious ice cream and frozen lemonade

My seven year old thought it was the most delicious ice cream in the whole world

Good service and delicious ice cream! Me and my friend love coming here;)

Google
I come to this Häagen-Dazs shop all the time, and it never disappoints! The ice cream is consistently delicious—super creamy and full of flavor. What really makes this location stand out, though, is the service. Yonathan is always so friendly and welcoming. He remembers regulars like me and always takes the time to make sure everyone leaves with a smile. It’s little things like that that keep me coming back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a sweet treat and great vibes!

Google
Haagen-Dazs brings me good memories from old days. I’ve been to different locations in Nevada, California, Florida, DC, Texas. I’ve loved their ice cream since I was a teen and would go to the mall and could only afford to buy an ice cream and people watch but this place is always consistently great. I always get the dulce de leche Sunday, it’s the perfect mix of dulce de leche ice cream with bananas more ice cream, whipped cream and more dulce de leche drizzled all over. It’s almost perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner or sure a snack would work too. The place was spotless clean and the area is a nice area were you can walk alone and feel safe and find parking near by. We went close to closing time and the customers continued to come but they continued to serve them and greet them, unlike other ice cream places that don’t want to serve you(we came from another shop were they sent us away due to them not wanting to work because it was 15 mins before closing). I will continue to come to Haagen-Dazs and to this specific location whenever I’m in the area.

Yelp
This spot offers quick and friendly service, and delicious flavors with a decent selection! It is often packed in the summer, but you will generally wait less time here than you would at other nearby ice-cream spots. Pros: Friendly service: Service at this location is always super friendly, and they will make recommendations and answer whatever questions you have. Convenient location: Very convenient location on M street in Georgetown-- easy to pop in here after a quick day of shopping! Probably easiest Water available: There is ice-water available with little cups, so that you can also have a refreshing glass after you purchase your ice cream. Seating inside: There is some seating inside-- a couple tables and booths. Delicious flavors: The flavors are delicious! I personally like the dulce de leche and cookie dough flavors. Variety: In addition to classic ice cream flavors, this location also offers shakes and smoothies that are more fruit-based in nature. You can also customize your ice cream with various sizes, and choose to go with a cup or a cone, depending on your preference! Cons: Packed: Though the line moves quickly, this location does get busy, and sometimes the inside seating is quickly taken on hot days.

Yelp
We specifically noted my daughter's severe life-threatening peanut allergy on the online order. When it arrived, the cup was significantly filled with peanuts. I called and The employee said a manager will call me back, but people with peanut allergies know how dangerous this is. Beware before ordering from here.

Yelp
I recently tried Häagen-Dazs' new Pistachio flavor and was surprised! Unlike many other pistachio ice creams that rely on artificial colors and flavors, this one has actual pistachio pieces, giving it an authentic, nutty taste and delightful texture. The service here was quick, which is always a plus. There are a few tables both inside and outside, though sitting outside can be a bit noisy due to the nearby street traffic. However, on a nice day, it's worth it for the fresh air and people-watching opportunities.

Yelp
I come here a lot, and the milkshake is usually really good. However this time the dark cookies and cream did not taste good. It tasted like mint. I watched him put the ice cream in it, so I'm not sure what happened.

Yelp
The ice cream and sorbet were great but super expensive. The staff was friendly and the service was quick.

Yelp
Just stopped in here for a late night ice cream treat. These guys are unbelievably awesome! Right away, I was asked if I wanted to try the new cheesecake flavor to which I happily said yes! I asked to try another flavor. I purchased a double scoop with some cones and I took care of the guys for the Samples. I was given a free small scoop of the new cheesecake flavor! That was so nice of them. I totally did not expect that. They are assets to the Häagen-Dazs Brand, and part of the reason I remain a loyal customer thanks guys. I appreciate you!

Yelp
Amazing service first time having this ice cream and it was off the roof no complaint and amazing taste of ice cream so amazing defiantly advice to go here

Yelp
One of the smaller locations, yet full of friendly faces behind the counter. Not only is there a good amount of Sorbet options, there's a handful of Non-Dairy Ice Cream selections - Spirits Amaretto Black Cherry Almond Toffee & Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge...woohoo to the no moo-moo. The employees are generous with samples & will offer to separate your toppings if you prefer. Get your cold treat in a Cone, Cup, Shake, Bars, Cookie Squares with an enormous amount of flavors & combinations. On my way out I made it known how happy I was with my Raspberry Sorbet & would be back to try the Vegan Ice Cream options...I ended up with a few samples out the door.

Yelp
It wasn't anything spectacular. It was a typical ice cream shop. The prices seems more on the expensive side for the quality of ice cream. The service wasn't anything crazy and the inside was narrow definitely not made for crowds. I didn't even take a picture because the ice cream really wasn't photogenic.

Yelp
I love Haagen Dazs. It used to be across the street years ago. Love that it's still around! Georgetown has grown! Service, let's start there. It's almost always busy. The servers, attentive nothing to write great reviews about. Now let's get to management, maybe owner. I see a random man in normal clothes cleaning. I realized he's the owner or manager. I say, I thought you were just a customer cleaning. He doesn't say anything. I'm puzzled. I no wonder this is just a ice cream shop with no cheer. It makes me not want to come back since he was rude... but I'm a fat girl so I'm sure I'll be back unless of course I get banned for this review. Le Sigh. Probably best to rid these fat rolls.

Yelp
Super good, exactly what you would expect from this brand. The raspberry was out of this world!
google avatar

Pinky J.

Yelp
Worth the $30 for the quick dessert ... Great customer service with a smile. Fast, cold and good to go!!! Sometimes you gotta treat yourself instead of buying a pint. Hurrying home so I can indulge in this delicate dessert. Wish there were more locations but thanks to Covid, it's easier to find parking.
google avatar

Frankie N.

Yelp
I'm not joking when I said this was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. They steamed the milk and the chocolate wasn't too overpowering. My only thing was the that customer service was OK. It wasn't bad, it was exactly what I expected from a Hagen Daaz in the middle of Georgetown. The workers weren't mean but they definitely had that bummed vibe to them.

Yelp
Fun, bright but cramped ice cream parlor. Came here with my girl, we both enjoyed it. Staff could be a tiny bit happier. Rebel view: 3.5

Yelp
Awesome for a late night treat, thanks for being open when I have my cravings !! Love everything chocolate

Yelp
I went in craving a fruit smoothie. I ordered the Aloha Mango, but it occurred to me that I wanted to add a scoop of piña colada ice-cream, the person that served me was very nice about it and my smoothie turned out absolutely delicious! It was very refreshing on a really hot day, thank you Häagen Dazs for pleasing my crazy cravings.

Yelp
Hands down amazing experience. Went in and wanted something scrumptous and hefty. The server which I wish I remembered his name which started with an F suggested a Sundae. Then I told him to surprise me and he made me a fancy dulce de leche with a chocolate twist. Definitely made my time that much memorable. The best part was as I got it someone saw it and was like I want the surprise too haha. It was trending!!! My sister ordered her standard belgian chocolate milkshake which was great as well.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible experience. I've been to Haagen-Dazs about 75 or 100 times in my life. Mostly other locations throughout the DC area including MD and VA. But I will not be returning unless there is a policy change. I went there on the hottest day of 2021 so far. I ordered an ice cream that costs 8 dollars. Just 1 ice cream dessert for 1 person. When I was paying, I politely asked for a cup of water. When she said she can't give me one, I asked if I could fill up my empty water bottle. She said no. I then asked if there is a water fountain. She said no. I then asked how I can get a drink of water with my ice cream purchase. She said I must purchase a water bottle from them. Heat index of 104. A level of heat that is literally dangerous if you're outside too long or not fully hydrated. And they refused to provide a single drop of water even after I spent 8 dollars on an ice cream. I have never experienced anything like this in my life, from any restaurant or coffee shop or bakery or ice cream shop. It is pretty cruel and outrageous to deny people water especially when they're paying lots of $$ for a product and when the heat index is 104 degrees. If they change the policy and allow paying customers to get a cup of water, I will change my review to 3 or 4 stars.

Yelp
Ordered the Cookies and Cream milkshake and it was typical Haagan Daz ---- smooth and delicious! Received 20% off with our Yelp check-in. Sweet!
google avatar

Yelp
It was in a good location whenever I'm tired of walking around and shopping I'd stopping by to get my ice cream here. It's always a little busy but I like this location. Will go back again soon!

Yelp
Nice little snack in Georgetown paid about $6 for a scoop of ice cream lol but worth it for the experience
google avatar

Yelp
First thing first - remember to check in on Yelp to get a 20% off. The guy spent extra time preparing the banana split since we arrived pretty late on a Thursday night. It was fantastic - different layers of flavors and tastes.

Yelp
First time I'd been to a Haagen Dazs - thought I'd give them a try. First person was friendly and let me use the restroom, which unfortunately turned out to be a slightly flooded pigsty. Asked for a large cone mint chip, which their menu describes as follows: Cup or cone: Kiddie $4.50 Regular $5.99 Large $6.99 and another line below it says: Add waffle cone or bowl $1.35 Well, turns out there is no way to get a large cone for $6.99. They charged me $8.34 before tax and when I asked about it, a different person told me the cone was extra. I asked, well how do I get a cone for $6.99? After not answering for a bit, finally just told me the cone was extra. I asked, can't he see how the menu is confusing? If there's no way to get a cone for that price, then why put it there? Makes it look like the waffle cone is an extra add-on instead of THE ONLY CONE THEY SELL. He asked how come I can't understand the menu says the cone is extra? Everyone else gets it except for me, I'm the only one out of all their customers, etc etc etc. Very well then, if this is how they respond when asked then I guess I will not be coming back here. The ice cream itself was good, if slightly on the drippy side; refreshing on a summer night :)

Yelp
A nice ice cream shop with Haegen Dazs ice cream and various products including frozen yogurt. Generally clean, though no seating (just a few benches along the wall and they are all taken). The store was very busy (it was an unusually warm day in winter, 70F), but service was relatively quick. My slight disappointment is that they don't have interesting or unique flavors. One comes to a Haegen Dazs shop expecting to find flavors one can't find in the supermarket, after all. They even have a few flavors that are a repetition (you realized this as you walk along the counter.
google avatar

Moe M.

Yelp
Good taste and friendly staff. Buttttt it's a little overpriced Tbh. Besides that everything good. Location is also very convenient
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little icecream store in the Georgetown area in Washington DC. Kinda has its pros and cons--the milkshakes, i will say are amazing, but the prices--the PRICES are DISGUSTING. I paid just under $10 for a milkshake--ONE milkshake--a darn good milkshake but what???? Maybe these prices are appropriate for that city and part of town but they're not for me! They shan't see me back there. The place is also crowded, even at night. Happy shopping!
google avatar

Una D.

Yelp
this is my favorite ice cream. came here for the free cone day. so i will only have high praise to offer. i got my favorite belgian chocolate chocolate in a waffle cone. for free!! the line move very quickly. and there is some indoor seating which is clean. there is no parking here unless you come after 10pm or on sunday. this may or may not line up with the hours of operation of the store. but c'est la vie! service was great, its a standard shop. no complaints at all!
google avatar

Vishal S.

Yelp
I agree with Candace H - I go to Haagen Dazs coz I'm obsessed with their ice cream. I know there are plenty of other mom-and-pop ice cream places that are much better than this; but this is one chain that I am a slave of... And no other place serves better Haagen Dazs than their store in Georgetown, DC. There is something magical about this place - all the people walking about, the whole Georgetown atmosphere, and me having my favorite ice cream, or something - but Haagen Dazs at this store is second to none! Had 2 scoops here on my last trip here last night after a BIG dinner at Mehran, DC (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mehran-restaurant-washington) My choice for the night were Chocolate Chocolate Chip and Vanilla Chocolate Chip - yes chocolate overload. That was topped with Hot Caramel syrup - HEAVEN! I like the staff here - kudos to them for handling the crazy amount of people frequenting this place...
google avatar

Ruth C.

Yelp
Friendly service. Mango smoothie was a little sweet but the pomegranate one was fine. Salted caramel gelato was okay. The laminated menus offer a list of flavors, which is nice since the linear layout prevents you from looking at the tubs if there's any kind of line. Bench along the wall plus some seating inside.
google avatar

Armani Y.

Yelp
I absolutely love ice cream and Haagen Dazs is some of my favorite! I love the Belgium chocolate chip! I've been eating this flavor for years and would love for it to always remain a flavor. They also have a rewards program that I highly suggest signing up for. No emails just points and a lot of free ice cream! This location is usually pretty easy to get ice cream from. The lines are never too long and there are always multiple employees in front of the dip boxes ready to scoop up some flavors. This is a must while in Georgetown and you don't feel like waiting in long lines at other ice cream shops in the area
google avatar

Saad B.

Yelp
Went there late a night! Had cookies and cream milkshake, and my friend this mix with caramel and bananas and many orher things...It was very good! The staff very friendly and professional! Good place for late night ice cream since almost everything closes at 10pm in M street
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
A lot of the shops on M Street in Georgetown close at 9pm. We wanted to grab a couple of cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes to close out our night of shopping but the line was SO long on a Friday night -- even at 8:30pm. We said forget it. I have access to GC in LA so we ended up sharing a banana split dazzle at Haagen Dazs --- gobbled that baby up in what seemed like one minute. It is so very good. The regular size order is $7.99. Strangely, the "small" is $7.49. Come on... get the regular size! The dazzle had vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, pineapples, bananas, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top. How can you go wrong with that combination? The people who work here are so nice. Note it is right next door to Starbucks for those who want to wash the cold down with a coffee or tea.

Fatima T.

Yelp
Very bad customer care, messy store. Run away and go get your ice cream somewhere else
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
Well, it's a Haagen-Dazs. Easily accessible location. Always busy even with the grossly inflated prices. I know you're in Georgetown, but almost $20 for two cones? I'll pass next time.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
The ice cream is fine. But the cones are not fresh and they leak. I was disappointed, especially considering how overpriced it was.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
The lady at the front, while I was paying for my ice cream cones, asked me to write a review for this location. So here goes. They gave us 3$ off our two ice cream cones. We ended up paying 13 bucks for two cones. Show them the Yelp coupon for 20% off. Great service. I love Haagen Dazs!!
google avatar

Francisco M.

Yelp
Its a regular ice cream place, nothing special. Service was good even though they were under staff. Milkshake too watery. Didn't feel like a shake. Their ice creams were what I expected.
google avatar

Emmanuel G.

Yelp
Perfect. The ice cream you and I love. And a very friendly service. Perfect in winter, to remind you of hot days to come.
google avatar

Vicky G.

Yelp
Haagen Dazs will always be Haagen Dazs, so this review is more so for the customer service. My roommate and I came for some post-dinner dessert after I found the awesome Foursquare deal for a Buy One Get One Free Dazzler. However, it was only after we ordered that the cashier said we couldn't use the deal because we didn't order the right size (we were supposed to order a bigger one to use the promotion). Cue the awkwardness. The good man then saw how distraught we were, so he gave us like some VIP discount anyways (Wow do actual people go often enough to earn VIP status?!). Maybe it's the fear of two emotional and deeply distressed girls who could not get their free ice cream. Either way, at least we saved a couple dollas right? And yes, the dazzlers are ridiculously expensive, but come on it's not gonna kill you to just treat yoself every once in a while. The perfect balance of thick, creamy ice cream, crumbled oreos, light whipped cream, and peppermint bark - how could you say no? (Kudos to their marketing strategies - those stand up posters outside the store are seriously drool inducing.)
google avatar

Roby R.

Yelp
A nice place to take a rest when you feel tired walking down the M Street. You can taste any flavor before paying for them. There is a Georgetown map on the wall telling the story of this famous community.
google avatar

Deirdre W.

Yelp
Cheers to free cone day! The Georgetown locations really has this annual event well run. I was in and out in no time, but I also received a full sized serving even though it was very crowded and free cone day. There are all the classic flavors available and you can order them in various types of cones or a dish. The staff are very friendly and will let you try a bunch of different flavors if you just can't decide!
google avatar

Austin M.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with Häagen-Dazs ice cream but the staff was not very professional. We were sitting down eating and two employees who appeared to be either mangers or owners argued about whether or not one said they needed more bowls or dishes. At first it was no big deal but they wouldn't stop. They did it the whole time we were there and were still going when we left. They only stopped to help customers. At lease the ice cream was okay.
google avatar

Mingus R.

Yelp
There was a punk thread today that got me thinking about this little ice cream shop. Georgetown is most widely known as DC's. fashionable shopping district but for me it holds a different kind of "historical" significance. This little Haagen-Dazs store front is a huge part of what my friend Bill likes to call "our punk rock heritage". You see, in the early eighties when the hardcore scene in D.C. was really starting to grow, two individuals who would go on to become hardcore luminaries worked here. 1) Ian Mackaye (Teen Idles, Minor Threat, Fugazi and 2) Henry Rollins of Black Flag, who was actually a manager at some point before he decided to go to NYC. ***** m'fn stars! Any time I found myself in D.C. for a show I would try to make it to Georgetown to stop by. If you'd like to know more about your Punk Rock Heritage check you local library! P.S. The ice cream is pretty good too!
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
For days I've been braving the dairy rapids at home. Häagen-Dazs Five on my brownie sundaes. Dulce de Leche pints prior to that. On Oscar movie catch up Saturday, I just HAD to have a scoop in a cup! Nothing like a hand dipped vanilla to ease the trippy images of Blue Valentine and Black Swan. Prompt service. Fair pricing. Well rounded scoop. I'm a fan. Can't say when I'll be back, though...
google avatar

Cameron H.

Yelp
Excellent service and ice cream. Only recommendation is that a sign is put up in where the entrance is to the ice cream line because no customer seemed to know.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Everyone knows that Häagen-Dazs ice cream is phenomenal, but so overpriced!! I think my dinner was cheaper than my desert here! I'd recommend looking for a local desert shop that has more authenticity and idea of how to price an ice cream cone.
google avatar

Ber P.

Yelp
This was also my first time in my cognitive life that I've been to an HD. The flavors of their ice cream pop out in my mouth like in HD! I had some triple threat belgian chocolate of some kind and a caramel-pecan-bourbon of some kind. I like that I could decipher the emphasis on cocoa obtained straight-from-the-source. They actually had a tv screen playing a journey on the cultivation of cacao from those mini medicine balls of hard shelled chocolate meat. It finally got me to shell out for the product of those shells. Cool map on the wall with a kid's memory-friendly historic map of famous stomping grounds of politicians and other known figures, most people would closely be considered relics of the past, but remembered in decades to come, nevertheless. Agreed that furniture isn't kept clean, but meanwhile the floors are meticulously polished and gleaming like their cough guards above shielding the precious hoards of the liquids of gourds.
google avatar

Meg G.

Yelp
Two of my favorite flavors of ice cream are butter pecan and pralines-n-cream. If you can see the trend here, then you won't be surprised to know that I love topping my Haagen Dazs sundaes with honey/caramel walnuts. MMM... sugary-confection, creamy crunch!! A bit excessive? Yessss.... Any guilt? Noooo.... Honestly, I can only give them 3 stars because I am a fan of a much smaller family-owned ice cream parlor with a better selection and variety. If in Georgetown, however, this is the place to be on a hot summer day. In my opinion, rum raisin is one of their best flavors. Also, I don't recall them having their tasty green tea ice cream the last time I visited, but if they have it - try it! Cool, smooth and refreshing.
google avatar

Yelp
Overpriced especially for their "speciality" ice cream (which btw I would never get again). Ended up getting this espresso ice cream dream which looked beautiful on their advertisement, but alas I was sorely mistaken. It ended up literally being a scoop of ice cream with some poured in from some plastic bottle of what I can only guess to be espresso topped with some whip cream. Seriously, charging me five and you can't even made some real espresso to go with the ice cream drink? What a rip off. Don't get me wrong, their ice cream is good, but at the same time you also get a pint for what they charge for a scoop there.
