Always recommend this place to anyone wanting authentic Mexican, that’s tasty, healthy, and a good price! Habaneros is this towns best kept secret. They’re always friendly, family owned and always deliver delicious meals. They are Vegan friendly, and don’t cook with lard for a healthier menu. But don’t let that fool you, everything is full-flavor and fuller portions!

Another place I discovered the last time I was in town. So I had to come back. We ordered fajitas supreme and a Mexican bowl. Plenty of free parking. Seating inside or outside. Clean inside and outside. The food was hot and fresh.

Google
We absolutely loved this cute Tex mex restaurant. They had a vegan menu which was delicious. We tried the veggie fajitas and the bean burrito. My dad had the chicken quesadilla and we were all super satisfied with the quality and quantity of food! Started us off with complimentary sopita and it was deckhouse as well.

Google
Awesome food! They have a vegan section on their menu. They also have a “Welcome Soup” that is vegan and tastes so good, lentils were on point. They also allow your dogs to chill with you on the porch while you eat, great for us because we live in a van and we’re traveling through. Only downfall I’d say is maybe wish the bean burrito plate was a dollar or two cheaper, simply because it’s just beans and rice with tortilla. But hey, it was freaking good so no real complaints! Worth trying.

Google
Food was great, they even gave us a sample of a soup on the house that was pretty good. I had the steak quesadilla and my wife had the sour cream enchiladas. Both were good and portions were appropriate. We had chips and queso also that were pretty good. The queso was a little different than we're used to in Houston, but it was good.

Google
O. M. G…. The food is incredible. Ordered Chile Rellenos Plate and Spinach and Artichoke Enchiladas. Vegetarian food is so hard to find. EXCELLENT vegetarian food is cause for celebration! They also have Vegan and meat options. And beer. :)

Google
This place is great huge selection. Very tasty food freshly made. The owner is delightful and super helpful and friendly. I especially love that they have many vegetarian and vegan options on the menu, which is pretty unusual for a Mexican restaurant in Las Cruces, this places is very accommodating. They do not use lard in their beans and offer lots of choices. It’s obvious that they take pride as the food is quality. We sat out on the patio. It was nicely, shaded, clean, and comfortable. Usually, we get takeout or delivery from here, but today we ate in for the first time and now I know I will be eating here more often. We loved everything. Also the welcome soup is so tasty, which is included with your meal. They had two kinds of soups Fideo with beans and also a lentil soup, vegan. The homemade salsa is delicious. We also asked for and tried their homemade habanero salsa for lots of extra heat and it was perfect. If you love Mexican food and also have any Vegetarian, vegan or gluten free friends or family, this is your absolutely best option for Mexican food in Las Cruces as they have something for everyone and the food will satisfy the carnivores and vegans. Prices are very reasonable too.

Google
Authentic Mexican food. We had lunch here after our White sands visit. Loved the vegetarian options. Flan was one of the best I ever had. Service was good. We had our puppy with us and staff was very accommodating. Must try shrimp, tacos and flan. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Quiet tacos, but serving salsa picosa. We dropped in on a Saturday evening. The outside of Las Cruces is pretty sleepy, this place is no different. It was quiet, but it was easy. You order at the counter and find a seat. They have a small soup that's fideo and frijoles. It's pretty good, and I bet on cooler evenings it's very appetizing. I stuck with something familiar...a carnitas plate. It comes with about 1/4 lb of carnitas, rice and refried beans, and guacamole salad. It was good, and the portion was generous. Liz enjoyed her enchiladas Verdes, and the kids enjoyed their carne asada tacos. There was a indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of parking out back I recommend this place.

Yelp
UPDATE: I'm usually only in Las Cruces once a year, and Habanero's Fresh Mex has become one of my favorite go-to's! This time I had the cheese enchilada lunch special with both red and green salsa (the red's a bit hotter, both delicious). And if I didn't mention before, you definitely want to try the little cup of soup that comes with the meal! It's a savory broth with beans and some noodles, and the perfect amount to hit the spot while you're waiting. The weather was great this time and I was able to sit out on the patio in December, which I also highly recommend.

Yelp
When we walked into Habanero's, we were really confused because we thought it would be a regular table service type of restaurant. It was actually order at the counter and take a number set up. But, that was ok. We tried their mahi mahi fish tacos and enchilada Del Mar. Both entrees were absolutely amazing. We can taste the authenticity of the food. Rice and beans were also delicious; we almost licked the plate. Will be back again for sure. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Customer Service is great. Salsa did not have a lot of flavor this time around. I had the shredded beef burrito and it was good but not the usual I expect from Habaneros.
google avatar

Ceci B.

Yelp
Delicious food, fresh and authentic. Very good service. The ambience needs work. It's too dark inside.

Yelp
We come to Las Cruses every year and this year Habaneros was our first stop for lunch. They never disappoint. The food is always fabulous and the outdoor patio seating is perfect. We have had a variety of dishes and you can't go wrong.

Yelp
Haven't been here in awhile but I first had Habaneros great food when they were on Solano , most recent was months ago, but I need yo familiarize with yelp. Try this place, you'll like it. I don't have photos of their food or building but I do have nest photos I can share

Yelp
Cute local Mexican food spot in Las Cruces. Stopped here on a cross-country road trip and was super impressed by the vegan menu options they offered, including the 2 potato taco plate that I got--the stars of the show were the homemade hard taco shell! Service was quick and simple with an ordering counter and staff that brought out food in less than 10 minutes. Everything was fairly mild spice wise and was a good, standard spread for a casual Mexican restaurant. Nothing too adventurous but very solid food and good hope in the wall atmosphere--recommend for anyone looking for a laid-back casual meal.

Yelp
Food is tasty and service is good. Would recommend for a tourist. Chile is not hot. Perfect for tourists.

Yelp
Great food, great service! Order at the counter and then go sit down. There's a dining room in the back, too. The Arroz con Cameron was excellent, and there was enough for lunch the next day. As noted in the photo, it included thinly sliced zucchini, thin ribbons of onion, plump shrimp, and a dollop of sour cream, all on a bed of rice. It was quite satisfying! Twice!

Yelp
Came through New Mexico to see the solar eclipse. My family if from New Mexico so i have had my share of great representations of the local food. If you're looking for traditional New Mexican cuisine this is not it. This is Mexican food with a New Mexican flair. I came specifically because on other reviews I saw pictures of sopapillas. I had to have a sopapilla in New Mexico! The food was wonderful. My husband had the green Chile arroz con pollo with calabacitas, it was great! I had the Christmas enchiladas, I think the wind went out of my sails when I found out that the enchiladas weren't stacked. The taste was great just not necessarily what I anticipated. I asked for sopapillas, no sopapillas I really don't want to take away from the food because the flavor was there. They use hatch Chile for their food and that part was wonderful and the service was ok. I didn't give the cashier a tip right away and I am guessing that's why we don't get chips and salsa as the other table did that sat after us. I was planning of giving a cash tip after the meal. I sent my son to give her the tip after we finished our meal only because the kitchen staff deserved the extra kuddos. We would recommend and come again with a mindset of this is Mexican and NOT traditional New Mexican.

Yelp
What a little gem this place is. Small, great menu, and awesome food. I had the three tacos which I was able to get with one each of shredded beef, chicken, and potato. Each was unique in flavor with a perfectly crispy corn tortilla. My partner had the veggie fajitas which were equally great with onions, peppers, zucchini, carrots, and potatoes. Plus the menu has several other vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Yelp
Habanero's is a local gem. They have a Welcome Soup that tastes like they are welcoming you home! My husband thinks their Mole is the best in town. For me, I order their Chile Relleno or Fajita Burrito. The Relleno is one of the best I have eaten. Several years ago we wanted chile relleno for our Holiday party. Other restaurants told us we should get them from Habeneros. We did and the rellenos were the hit of the party! A word of warning... the fajita burrito is huge! Be ready to enjoy leftovers for more than one meal.

Yelp
Pretty good experience, a few things were unexpected. It's counter service only firstly, and they do not have a liquor license, so it was only beers. I was hoping for a marg. There is a vegan menu! My favorite part is that they do *not* use lard. The beans and rice are super flavorful and delicious. Even though there are vegan items, there really are not many vegetables at all in these dishes. The bean burrito is literally refried beans in a tortilla. And the chicken burrito is...chicken in a tortilla. But the homemade tortillas are excellent. The food took longer than we were thinking for a counter service Mexican restaurant with simple meals. We did love the complimentary soup though with beans and pasta noodles. Sounds weird but we all loved it. The red enchilada sauce is *super* good, not terribly spicy. Now, the reason we came was I really wanted some mole sauce. Their mole is good but very unique and not typical I would say, or what I was craving. Very strong spices, like cinnamon?, and kind of sweet, more similar to some dishes I had in Israel actually. I definitely liked it, but was looking more for the black mole with chocolate and smoky chili, not sweet. The bathroom reminded me of a gas station, it could use some love. Overall I recommend, the kids loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was mushy and overall not good. Service was mediocre. Had to keep asking to bring out what was ordered she stated she forgot.

Paul S.

Yelp
We never miss an opportunity for the mole' enchiladas on our drives through Las cruces!! We come from Phoenix for it, it's that good. And the owner and his staff are always delightful!! The welcome soup is delicious too!!

Sandra M.

Yelp
Service was ok (a teenager, so not TOO happy) big parking lot, good food, easy to find location.
google avatar

Alvaro G.

Yelp
Their potato tacos are so good! Service was quick and I like the adobe design of the place.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
I judge mexican restaurants by ordering chicken enchiladas on my first visit. The flavors here were mild at best, with the meat being on the dry side, even with the green sauce. A nice little spot, hoping for better results when I try their tacos.

Yelp
Worst experience ever, costumer service is very rude. I had the cook scream at me from the kitchen since I took my dog inside to order my food. At the same time the cashier was also screaming at me saying I couldn't sit outside because they had a party of 8 coming in a few minutes and they reserved outside (I understand) but she didn't have to be rude other small parties where ok to go outside and sit down but me that I had my dog wasn't allowed in the restaurant at all.. the cashier was also rude to another customer saying "do whatever it doesn't matter" when he asked if he could wait inside to wait for the big party that was going to arrive soon. It was too hot for him to wait outside so he wanted to wait inside for his whole party to get there. Worst service I have ever experienced.

M. E.

Yelp
We really like this place - it's reliable, yummy and always open when you need them. The service can be a little unfriendly depending on who you get, but during Covid they were a lifesaver!!
google avatar

Jim A.

Yelp
Excellent mole and fajitas. Funky ambiance, great service. Amazing value for wonderful food.
google avatar

Rozee O.

Yelp
The food was delicious and table service was great-quick to bring what you asked for- despite ordering @ the counter and carrying your own drinks to the table. The indoor seating was well worn, dark and uninviting. The outdoor patio was better but dusty and windy.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was wonderful Service is friendly Ambiance fits In Las Cruces make it a definite stop

Yelp
Great food the whole family loved on our road trip. We loved the food and the kids especially loved the churros after.

Yelp
Came in for lunch with my daughter. Food was amazing. I ordered a Carne Asada smothered burrito. The poblano sauce was amazing and flavorful. There was also plenty of food I highly recommend coming here. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Staying overnight in Las Cruces as we make our way home to Phoenix. Decided to try this place out since Yelpers gave it great ratings. We ordered the two tacos plate (carne asada, rice and beans) and 2 chicken enchiladas plate (rice and beans included. We also had chips and salsa. Overall everything was great. Food came out hot, decent refried beans (tasted home made ). Server friendly. We sat outside in patio with our dog. Decent price.

Yelp
We were on our way back from being on a road trip to take our daughter from Cali to Nashville for College, but we took the 10 home and decided to stop in Las Cruces overnight, while trying to look for a restaurant near our hotel, we realized that it's mostly mexican restaurants, which was totally ok, I found this place and after reading the reviews, we figured we'll give it a try. And other than some beers/wine not being available the food made up for it!! It was very very good. If we ever go through Las Cruces again I would def go there again! Portions were plenty big and it tasted very good. Also plenty of variety (even Vegan options) to make your meal more customized!

Yelp
What first struck us when visiting Habanero's was the fast and friendly service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and given recommendations for what to order. We ended up going with the verde enchiladas and the mole enchiladas which both came with side salads. The mole was our favorite and the salad dressings were also super flavorful. It's obvious that the food is fresh and feels much lighter than your typical Mexican fare, as we didn't feel heavy afterward. The corn tortillas seemed like they were homemade and were wonderful. My only reservation is that I think the food could use a touch more salt, but otherwise everything was super tasty and fresh. I'd definitely recommend them!

Richa A.

Yelp
Average food. They advertise themselves as home of free soup and we weren't offered one. Also chips and salsa are Not free. $4.50 for chips/salsa was absolutely not worth it. Clean place. Has vegan options. And oh they charged us $0.50 extra on every dish. I am guessing may be because we paid using credit card. No explanation given though
google avatar

Randy T.

Yelp
We have become regulars. Great mole. Great cheese enchiladas. Food is fresh and sabroso. Add Habanero's to your Mexican food bucket list!
google avatar

Krys T.

Yelp
I am Mexican born in Mexico and my standard for Mexican food is really high. Also I am a vegetarian. The food was DELICIOUS! It was fresh, not oily, savory, just really really good. I loved the vegan menu options, I had the potato tacos. I really liked that they do not use pork lard (yuck!) The service was really good as well. The restaurant was clean, and spacious.
google avatar

Michaelene K.

Yelp
Went with colleagues to have lunch. I heard the fish tacos were the best my colleague had, fish tacos also! I had the Pepin enchiladas and they were tasty, but the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor. I was happy to try it but next time would try something else. The tortillas were soft and delicious, the chicken filling was moist. I had the Welcome Soup (fideo with beans) and really enjoyed the simple but flavorful soup. Apparently a coworker had been here before with her husband and they also enjoyed it! I'd love to come back. The menu was very diverse, something for everyone, and we all left satisfied.
google avatar

Anna E.

Yelp
I've been struggling to find a good fajita plate over the May few weeks on the road and has been craving it. Came to Habaneros and found a really nice and flavorful platter. Hit the spot the first time I got it so I decided to go back again and we'll maybe just one more time. Fast and friendly service, would definitely Recommend. My only qualm is that I can't seem to rip myself from the fajita plate to try anything else!
google avatar

Monica J.

Yelp
Ok, this was our 2nd time here, and it was excellent. The beef chimichanga was well served. The shredded beef was juicy and flavorful, topped with red sauce. The rice and beans were delicious and fresh. The welcome soup was hot and tasty. Simply tasty. The chicken mole plate was delicious. It was on the sweet side with a hint of cinnamon. Yummy. I had the chile relleno plate, and they were super yummy and topped with green sauce. We will be returning soon. Thank you!
google avatar

christina m.

Yelp
Great little spot! The food is delicious and they have a whole vegan menu with lots of choices. Beer and wine are available as well. Everyone was so friendly and food came out so quick. I come here every time I am in Las Cruces for work.
google avatar

Brave D.

Yelp
The rice and beans are well seasoned and the seafood is okay. They offer a complimentary soup as a starter, which is nice and also delicious. The service is also good. There are limited food options in the area so I would revisit this spot. The chef takes pride in his recipes and really takes interest in making sure your food is prepared just the way you like it :)

Martin I.

Yelp
Good fresh food! Vegan and Vegetarian options. The potato tacos were yummy! Avocado omelette was tasty with green sauce!

Pat S.

Yelp
First time here, although we come to Las Cruces every year. I only regret not having eaten here earlier. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. My husband had a chile relleno and did not leave one bite on his plate. I had veggie enchiladas and there was so much flavor but yet not overwhelming in spice. The soup to start is a nice treat. That is delicious as well. We finished with sopapillas as dessert and they also did not disappoint!
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
So much flavor ! I loved the shredded beef burrito with the (hot) green chili sauce. Super nice employees and cute patio too. Fast service. All around 10 stars!!!!

Tom V.

Yelp
Excellent food and a nice setup. Ordered the seafood enchilada with the green sauce and flan, both were better than I've had in quite awhile. The enchilada was large and full of fresh seafood perfectly made, the rice and beans in the side were well prepared and very good. My flan was as good as it comes. Lastly they give you an optional cup of courtesy soup which was delicious. Definitely will return.

Yelp
Excellent food. Never had a bad meal there. Owner can be cranky but last visit he was super friendly!! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolute best place to get Mexican food if you're gluten-free or vegetarian or vegan they follow all the rules and it's clean and yummy and one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. So happy they're following all the rules with social distancing and plastic cover cashier area. We drive from El Paso to get great food here!! I love breakfast served all day. But what I love more is the vegan enchiladas. For meat eaters get arroz con pollo or mole sone of the best ever

Brad W.

Yelp
My wife and and I gave Habaneros's a shot today. I had the chimichanga and she had the fajitas. The food was okay but nothing special and the prices are pretty high for the quality of food. I will say this is the most expensive Mexican food I have had in Las Cruces and it is not even a full service restaurant, you have to order your food from the counter. I would not say the food is bad but it is not on par for a Mexican food restaurant in Las Cruces, NM. They do serve a complimentary cup of soup that was good, but no chips and salsa. For the cost of the food I would think chips and salsa should be complimentary. The drinks are where I was surprised. A drink is almost $4. Again not the worst place but pretty overpriced for the quality. The service was great and the staff was very friendly.
google avatar

Dennis O.

Yelp
Good menu including vegan options. Good service; quick and polite. Clean throughout with patio seating option. Good house made salsa. My wife''s chilé relleno was great as was the rice. I had the chicken molé. It was a little sweeter than I like. Mole sauce varies widely from restaurant to restaurant and regionally as well. This molè sauce was the most beautiful color and the chicken was tender. It's just a matter of personal preference that I like my molè more savory than sweet. I certainly would go back and maybe try their carnitas next time. To be fair, I am very picky about molè. Not their fault. My wife makes pretty good molè but even she can't please me. Everything was good but I can be hard to please.
google avatar

Israel C.

Yelp
Great Little spot, they have tasty móle, great little fidello soup comes before the meal and the ambience and environment were pleasant. Highly recommend

Deb M.

Yelp
I'm totally into this place! Although it's not comfy with all the wood seating, the menu is ambitious for a restaurant of its type, and the food delicious.
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Being plant based, this place offers a great vegan selection. Always friendly service! The lentil soup is FANTASTIC. I have had all the vegan options and the veggie burrito is my fav! Casual environment and a nice outside patio area.
