The Best Vegan Food in Seattle

"Previously known as Amy’s Merkato, Habesha Cafe carries the same traditions as a hybrid Eritrean and Ethiopian restaurant, cafe, and deli. The vegan food is delicious (find someone to split The Full Habesha Vegan Combo with), but the real appeal comes from owners Filli Abdulkadir and Yodit Seyoum, who treat customers like family." - Sean Keeley, Eater Staff

The 13 Best Ethiopian Restaurants In Seattle

"The beef tibs sandwich alone at this small Hillman City cafe and market makes it worth a visit. Tender beef chunks sit between a crusty baguette that soaks up all the liquid gold of niter kibbeh, berbere, and gingery juices from the meat. But diners shouldn’t miss the Habesha vegan combo that comes with a rainbow of garlicky collard greens, spicy red lentils, and earthy beets. Seating inside is limited since most of the space is taken up by Habesha’s market of Ethiopian spices, coffee, and other goods. But in the summer they put out a couple extra tables on the sidewalk, and everything tastes just as great to go. " - lidiya belete, aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Went to Habesha Cafe for the first time. I discovered this place because it is very close to my neighborhood and my sister suggested it to me. Ordered their Spicy Beef Tibs Sandwich and Beef Sambusas. The others ordered these amazing dishes as well and they told me that it was delicious too! Very delicious and super fresh tasting! The atmosphere was very pleasant and cozy! Also, outstanding customer service!!! Highly recommended!!! Love love love it 😍!!!

Google
Very beautiful food and friendly service. We felt so welcomed here and enjoyed our meal a lot. The vegan platter for two was a colorful work of art and perfect for us to share. We had a quiet corner of the restaurant to ourselves which was really relaxing as well. Everything was nourishing and delicious, I'll definitely be back!

Went here for a Valentines Day meal with my partner and it was SO GOOD! The food was delicious and I loved how vegan friendly the menu was (there are plenty of non vegan options as well). We didn’t get to try any but the pastries looked amazing. The gentleman working (I assume he’s the owner) was so friendly and kind. I had a mocha coffee as well that was perfect and I can’t wait to go back to try the coffee service. 10/10!

Google
Would recommend this place. Had the vegan combo and green chicken as a Sunday lunch. Both were good, especially the green chicken, tender, juicy, fresh tastes with the spinach. Many vegan/vegetarian options.

Google
These reviews HAVE to be fake! They are AMY’S MERKATO on Door Dash, so beware and avoid! This was hands down, the Worst Ethiopian food EVER! And I’ve eaten a lot of Ethiopian food. First of all, they called me to tell me, they didn’t have any boiled eggs. What if I ordered Doro Wat? It traditionally comes with a boiled egg. So I believe they were lazy and didn’t want to spend the time to boil any. They didn’t bother to tell me they didn’t have the Gomen, I PAID extra for. And instead, they proceeded to give me the SMALLEST portion of chickpeas. I didn’t agree to that substitution, why not call me about that too? Ayib was smelly and bitter. Overall, there was barely any food given. And what was given, was the TINIEST portions ever. The food tasted old, stale, BURNT and bitter. Didn’t even taste like beef. Barely any sauce. And it was COLD! Normally, even if the restaurant is an hour away, my food arrives piping hot because it is surrounded by injera. This was definitely not worth $50 dollars. If I had a dog or a raccoon, I wouldn’t even feed them this slop!

We have beef samosas, veg combo, green chicken, very delicious and fresh, even my 8y and 12y enjoyed and finish all!

Google
I love this cute little restaurant!! The food is so good, and they have a truly insane number of vegan options, including some DELICIOUS vegan beef tips. The prices are also more than reasonable and the owner is the sweetest, friendliest man!

Google
Best East African restaurant I’ve tried! Owner is so warm and accommodating. Tons of vegan and vegetarian options, the injera is super soft and the portion sizes are huge. Definitely coming back and also don’t miss the coffee ceremony!

Yelp
My wife and I were in Columbia City and looking for cafe to chill and we decided to try Habesha Cafe. Since it was an Ethiopian cafe I thought it would be great to try their traditional Ethiopian coffee. The owner served us the pot of strong coffee for two with frankincense. The coffee was delicious and rich and the frankincense along with the chilled music in the cafe made it a perfect place to read our books and enjoy the day slowly. The cafe has a nice shop with food and items, like Ethiopian coffee pots, to purchase. The owner was incredibly friendly. The only thing to consider about the traditional Ethiopian coffee is that it wasn't cheap: the pot for two with frankincense was $15 --- with tax and tip the total was nearly $20. It was unique and special though --- and the first time that I've tried coffee in this way.

Yelp
Based on the table next from us the food looks glorious. Ethiopian food is one of a kind. However my husband and I came here for its Ethiopian coffee and we were hooked. Beautiful traditional setting especially the little cups, coffee pot and the frankincense was a shout out! The cafe is cozy and friendly with a calming music in the background.

Yelp
Exceptional spot for Ethiopian food! Reasonably priced for vegetarian options for sure, and they have a lot of veggie and vegan options. I got the vegetarian combo platter (serves 2) and it's $24 for 2. They also have meat options at a higher price point and a wide variety of sandwiches too. The owner is really sweet and they also have an attached grocery store! It's a pretty casual cafe spot. I didn't try any drinks this time, but they have a traditional Jebena coffee experience that I'd love to try next time. They also have a wide range of coffees and lattes available too.

Yelp
Extremely high-quality, good value, very vegan-friendly Ethiopian food in South Seattle, an area with lots of competition for Ethiopian food. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and ordered The Great Habesha Veggie Combo ($24 plus tax; which is vegan). The food came out in about 10 minutes. The combo comes with about 8 different dishes, 2 portions each, and a nice side of extra injera. Every dish was very well-made, with the highlights possibly being the misir wot (spicy red lentils), shiro (chickpea), and the gomen (the greens). Very generous portion, especially for the price -- $24 for 2 people to be full in a sit-down restaurant. The food wasn't oily at all, but was really nicely spiced/flavoured. The guy serving us with tremendously friendly and hospitable. If you're in the area, definitely check out this great place!

Yelp
Habesha Cafe is a great spot for Ethiopian food! The food is excellent quality! We tried Habesha Cafe after working out, we were very hungry. We ordered the Habesha Special (meat + veggie combo) for $29. We devoured it. The quality of each component was great. The meat was cooked perfectly, the collard greens were the perfect sweetness, and the potatoes, and sides were seasoned very well. The owner of the restaurant was very sweet and greeted us with a smile. He was very kind. The cafe is very large with lots of seating. I definitely will want to go back to try more of their dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in south seattle!!

Yelp
I love this type of food and make my partner eat it often even though he is not the biggest fan. I'm working hard to convince my family to try it as well. I don't think he loves the communal style dish and that you eat it with your hands, for those that don't know, it's not nearly as messy as you would imagine. It always has vegetarian friendly options and seems like more of an event meal than most places to me. It does seem like a healthier option than a lot of other places as well, we probably all need more beans and veggies in our lives. He did seem to enjoy that he was able to get a sandwich here, beef tibs, which seemed to make him a little happier than normal. He couldn't decide about spicy or non spicy. I heard that they were one of the first places to offer plant based meat and put it on my to do list, knowing that I had to seek this out. I haven't heard of any other places offering this locally. I was so excited to try plant based tibs. I got the Full Habesha Plant Based Beef (Vegan) Combo. It was a little pricey for 28$, but did say it could feed 2, which means some for me for now and some for me for later. We also had our first experience with mitmita, which added the saltiness I often feel my Ethiopian food is missing. I really liked the spinach and collard greens. My partner also enjoyed his cheesecake. I do admit I don't love the injera here as much as at some other places. This place is unique in that it also sells a lot of goods. I appreciated the ability to browse while I waited for my food and ended up taking home some dry lentils that I'm hoping will transform into a delicious soup. They also seem to have a bunch of baked good/deserts available for purchase to go as well.

Yelp
This quaint unbeknownst hidden gem on Rainier Ave is enduring. Simple tasty cakes and baklavas and robust teas and coffees. Attentive service. Wanna find a 'hidden' place to meet with a special someone, come to Habesha Cafe.

Yelp
The lemon cake was exactly what I wanted, not overly sweet and paired well with a decaf americano. All together my two items were $5.89 (the cost of one tall or grande drink at Starbucks). The gentleman that served me was also super kind. Very quiet inside with a bit of traffic noise with the door open. Great experience.

Yelp
The food is amazing... many vegetarian options, wow! And the woman there is so kind and welcoming!! We had such a nice lunch!

Yelp
After 3 years of looking for an Ethiopian restaurant in Seattle that does justice to some of the incredible ones that took the pandemic hit, we finally found it. Habesha is undoubtedly the best Veggie Combo in the city. Every single thing on the plate was spectacular; freshly cooked, plain and simple with outstanding flavors, authentic and delicious, we literally licked the plate clean. The portion size is easily enough for two extremely hungry people or maybe even three if only moderately hungry, and the price is very reasonable. They also brilliantly plate the dish with everything split in two so that it can be shared so much more easily; such a simple but brilliant thing to do. The owners were extremely warm and kind and I honestly wish them all the very best. I can't wait to go back and also try some of their cakes and baklava the next time around. We've clearly found our new spot and have already made plans to take friends here soon.

Yelp
Superb Ethiopian food. I ordered the Full Habesha Vegan Combo today and it was generous, fresh, well spiced, and delicious. I was curious to see Beyond options on the menu too, maybe I will try those next time. It's cozy, it feels a bit like sitting in someone's home. Service was friendly and easygoing. It's not a place to eat if you're in a rush. There are a few packaged food items and spices for sale.

Yelp
Really great habesha food. I really enjoyed the spicy tibs sandwich and the sambusa. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
The green chicken is very tasty. The server/owner is so gracious. Very casual family vibe.

Josephine Q.

Yelp
Husband Filli and wife Yodeet treated our palates to amazing traditional food. We experienced super welcoming hospitality and attentiveness, delicious food, community and a glimpse into Ethiopian culture via their amazing coffee ceremony. What an unforgettable experience! If you have an opportunity to treat yourself - do it!

Yelp
Came here to pick up some sambusa and a serving of the vegetarian combo to go. The man working here was so sweet and the lady got me water and sambusa while I waited for my to go order. Their chicken sambusa were perfect although a bit on the blander side and very lite on the chicken. The vegetarian combo was plenty of food for one to share. The flavors were perfect! I would definitely go back. The place had a small market inside where they were selling spices, sweets and some home decor. They were also selling slices of cake and baklava.
google avatar

Yelp
Came with a friend that wanted to try Ethiopian for the first time!!! She failed to tell me she had tryptophobia ‍*facepalm* Good thing they had other menu items I could get so she wouldn't starve to death. The aunty working was so kind and was bussing all the tables herself as it was an Ethiopian holiday when we visited and all other staff took the day off. I always recommend the meat combo cause it's the easiest to share with others - and get a little bit of everything! Would definitely come back. Oh and don't be confused that the signs say Amy's Merkato - you're in the right place. :)
google avatar

Yelp
We got falafel wrap, falafel sandwhich, and baklava to go - but can't wait to come back to try more of the menu. First off, the owner is super sweet! Everything was made fresh to order. There is a little marketplace inside to pick up some packaged goods which is fun to look at when waiting for your food. Super clean and cozy vibe inside.

Yelp
So Yadit pronounced (ya deet) educated me on Ethiopian practice. I ordered a small mocha and tasted like a mocha not to creamy and not too strong and taste of chocolate. Along with a piece of walnut baklava although pistachio baklava was available Price point is about the same as most coffee shops $8 plus tax for the order, parking only on the street. A nice seating area and I was educated on the serving of coffee. Prior to covid, every 6 weeks they serve coffee the enitrian way. Roasting the coffee in front of the guest and serving the coffee because they enjoy the smell of coffee as much as they like drinking coffee you get three cups of coffee out of one roast and on the third cup of coffee you take the cup and offer your blessings but you don't have to drink the last cup you may skip the 2nd cup but please drink the first cup. Unique spices are sold here as well as spices in bulk if you love to cook. Amy's allows folks to sit and I recommend sitting and enjoying a cup . Take care now

Yelp
Let me start by saying Ethiopian food is my favorite and Ive eaten it for many years (both homemade and restaurants). I decided to try this place and I'm beyond disappointed. The portions.... I paid $22 and got a few handful portions of meat. (The traditional way to eat it) The salad.... I mean... I had to believe someone forgot to add the rest because there is just no way this was dished out in confidence. The salad was completely dry (no oil.. vinegar.. lemon.. NOTHING.) The beef tibs were DRY... barely any awaze... no jalapeño. That's completely misleading to the picture that's advertised (I've given side by side pictures). I love to try and venture out and try new Ethiopian restaurants to support but this made me want to stick to my one and only. Very disappointing.

Yelp
It was an amazing and delicious lunch! I had the combo entrée, and the meat is very flavorful. The coffee is good as well. The staff are very attentive and checks in regularly, a great place for a meal!

Yelp
Had a wonderful time eating here! My friends and I had never had Ethiopian food before and the owner was so helpful in explaining the menu and recommending what we should try. We decided on the meat combo and veggie combo between the 3 of us and it came together in a huge platter with so much food that we can probably make another whole meal out of it. It's presented beautifully, was delicious, and we were walked through how to eat it all with the injera. At the end, the owner came over and told us about some traditions around eating in Ethiopia, how baklava became popular, and offered us some tea. Highly recommend!

Laura K.

Yelp
Delicious veggie and meat mix platter (we dig in before I remembered to take a photo. Our child enjoyed the injera! Friendly staff.
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
The owner is the sweetest lady in the world :) Cute authentic shop with hearty food. We got the meatball sandwich ($8) and the Foul ($11.50). The bread is super soft and crispy. The meatball sandwich was flavorful and delicious. The Foul was a very simple dish and was great with bread dipped in. It was very interesting- I'd describe it as a watery mashed bean mush with spices, lol! The hardboiled egg was overcooked. Nevertheless - Hit the spot - filling but not too heavy. The food was ready super quickly! There's a small shop with spices and such inside, as well as a dessert case.

Harrison C.

Yelp
This place is everything! The owners are some of the sweetest people around - they take such pride in what they do and you can taste it in the dishes. Definitely some of the best Ethiopian food in town! The portions are very generous, the service is fantastic, and on top of that, they also have great selection of snacks and goods from East Africa and the middle east that are hard to find! The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming - I've had productive work days in here, coffee chats, business meetings. It's just a wonderful spot can't reccomend it enough.

Harvey Woodford ..

Yelp
Great service by very friendly owners. Good food too with some hardy vegetarian options. Injera is a little thicker than I'm used to (and I eat Ethiopian often) but still good.

Yelp
Getting to Amy's is a bit strange since neighborhood parking on the nearest street does not allow for a left turn into it from Rainier. However, there's plenty of street parking on the streets beyond and you can always drive around to get a bit closer to Amy's. The interior is so welcoming and there's a lot of various Eritrean and Ethiopian-based spices and snacks for sale right when you come in. It's really nice to see and be able to access should you feel the need to stock up. The owner was very nice and provided free baklava to us. We ordered in and the meal was done in under twenty minutes. The baklava was wonderful - earthly sweet and chewy after the various crisp layers of the outside. Their falafel wrap was wonderfully sweet and nicely flavored. I actually ordered the falafel plate but that's okay. The meat and veggies combo was a bit lacking in flavor. This was probably due to the fact that I accidentally ordered non-spicy. The spices really do counteract the sour injera so it ended up becoming a meal of sourness. I think the injera was a bit more sour than I'm used to and I prefer the injera from other restaurants I've been to. However, due to it being takeout, they were generous with the layers of injera provided: two large layers in addition to the one provided for folding the combination platter. As always, any of their platters can easily feed three to four people. I would recommend trying out this place but please remember to get the spicy version.

Toby M.

Yelp
We came for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday- the food was amazing! Very fresh and lots of variety. Excellent service as well! Thank you!

Yelp
Habesha Cafe in Seattle is a hidden gem that transports you to Ethiopia with its authentic atmosphere and mouth-watering cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with warm hospitality that exudes the rich culture of Ethiopia. The menu is extensive and offers a wide range of traditional Ethiopian dishes, from meat to vegetarian options. The staff is incredibly friendly, courteous and knowledgeable and happy to guide you through the menu and make recommendations. One must-try dish is the Ethiopian platter, which comes with a variety of savory stews and vegetables served on injera, a spongy Ethiopian bread. The flavors and spices in each dish are expertly balanced, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. I have been to other Ethiopian restaurant, some of those are within a block of Habesha. But this one stands out because of its excellent portion size. Since I am vegetarian, I tried their vegetarian platter. The menu said that its good for 2 people. It indeed was. Our family of 3 which included a 6-years old Ethiopian food enthusiast was completely stuffed after that. Another standout dessert dish is their Orange cake, it is a must-try for people with sweet tooth. In addition to the food, the drinks menu is equally impressive, featuring a variety of traditional Ethiopian teas and coffee. The coffee ceremony is a must-try experience, where you get to witness the traditional Ethiopian coffee-making process and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Yelp
Local deli and store. Some food items to eat there to take away. Traditional Ethiopian coffee ingredients and carafe. Amy ja of term there and has an easy going kind energy
google avatar

Yelp
This is the only Ethiopian spot in town that has a veggie platter with fake meat tibs. It is delicious, and it's big enough for two, and maybe even three people depending on your hunger. The baked goods are also delicious.
google avatar

Ader H.

Yelp
Visiting from out of state and aside from Yodeet being incredibly warm and kind, the food itself was also delicious. The injera is perfectly sour and the veggies were nicely spiced and cooked. Great local spot which Is recommend to friends.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, and it has become my favorite cafe to sit and relax in on a weekend morning. To hit on a few aspects of the menu: - Their veggie and meat combos are fantastic, because everything they make is delicious. This feels like a particularly hearty, healthy, homemade type of place. Many Ethiopian standards, and some creative twists, all made with care - The catfish tibs are to die for! WOW! As is the green chicken. Sometimes I'll get a full order of one of these because they are so addictive and feel so good to eat - The coffee/espresso is inexpensive and extremely good. Just high quality, low fuss - For a breakfast treat, grab the foul (fava bean stew) and/or the qateqna (spiced, cooked injera) - The market is small but full of great herbs and ingredients, perfect for goods to make your own Ethiopian dishes at home - Dine in is better than takeout, and worth the trip Beyond that, the owners are just the sweetest, friendliest folks. Highest recommendation!

Huong L.

Yelp
We wanted to eat some Ethiopian food and heard a lot of great things about this new place so decided to check it out. The inside is nice and clean and is a cafe style with a little spice shop as well. It is also counter style. We opted for the following: Veggie combo - pretty standard Fowl - this is my first time having this, but I tho it was on the bland side Dori wot - my favorite, it was super flavorful and went well with the injera. The chicken leg was good but was not meant for sharing...same with the egg, I wish it was cut up to small pieces. Lamb ribs - meat was tender and cooked well Ambience - this is the star of the experience, the lady who took our order and serve us was very nice. She was very attentive and considerate and made us feel very comfortable. She also gave us some baklava to try after our meal as well. Price was standard as portion of the meat and veggies was ok. We did get a lot of injera bread though which was nice. Overall, it was good and I'm glad to have tried it
google avatar

Suresh S.

Yelp
There is a restaurant and a little market. It's bright inside and the owner was friendly. Both my friend and I had the lamb tibs and it was a delicious filling meal. I wish the plate had a bit more variety through. That's the thing with the menu. You can get an all meat combo, and all veggie combo, or a mixed combo which was 27, which is probably more food than I could eat and more than I wanted to pay for lunch. I wish they did a light combo with a smaller number of items but a mix of meat and vegetarian dishes for a lower price. The food was good but I feel Massawa restaurant down the street is still my favorite Ethiopian place I've tried recently

Tyler K.

Yelp
So much fun to eat here! Awesome friendly service and an explanation of how to eat the food. The traditional coffee service was very cool.

Yelp
All the veggie classics I tried were done well. Very warm and friendly owners. Pleasant dining area with big sunny windows.

Yelp
I love this mom and pop shop on rainier! Amy is super nice and accommodating. I came here during the crazy snow storm Seattle experienced and was greeted immediately upon arrival. My friend and I ordered americanos and the injera with tibs. The coffee here is really good and strong. Amy was kind enough to provide refills. The injera is made fresh daily and is actually sold to many restaurants in the Seattle area who serve injera. You're tasting a little of Amy's no matter what restaurant you go to ;) anyway, the tibs were delicious and seasoned well. We chose the beef tibs and it was very tender. My small criticism is that the dish wasn't spicy enough. This is going to become my go to spot for coffee and injera in the future. Support your local businesses!!
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Just had the beef tibs sandwich and it really hot the spot. Plus the guy working there is always so kind and deeply respectful. I love this place.
google avatar

Yingbo W.

Yelp
I feel ripped off by this restaurant. The food tastes decent but I got the meat combo for $20 and it was loaded with injera to fill out the space in the box. I decided to give this place another try and opted for bread replacement because the injera wasn't good. The bread was given on the side so the amount of meat given in the take out box only filled out a quarter of the box and the other quarter was salad. The portion amount was so sad, it was enough meat that would be found on 3 tacos but they charge $20 instead of $12. Also ordered the Doro Wat, the national chicken dish, and it was the same 1/4 box chicken breast pieces, 1 plain egg that was not even boiled with the stew, 1/4 salad, rest air. Everything was also cold like it was cooked before hand and just plopped into the box. All this for $15-$20. Tried the Ethiopian beef tartare. It was literally plain ground beef with some pepper powder on the side. So tasteless I had to add my own seasoning at home and ended up cooking it into taco meat. I have also ordered take out from Bana, another Ethiopian restaurant that is a mile down the road. Contrasting with what I got from Amy's, Bana's portions are way bigger and cost less! With the Doro Wat, you get 3 whole chicken legs, 2-3 eggs that were actually cooked in with the stew and tons of pure teff injera. The food tasted much more authentic! The injera is also 100% teff and it tastes better. The injera at Amy's is thicker and more sour and not pure teff (flour mixed in). If you want pure teff, Amy's charge $4 extra! I won't be back because of the stingy portions, rip off prices. I feel like this place exists to rip off privileged white people and deliver a fusion experience (e.g. replace bone in dark meat with easy to eat white meat and charge more). I will be going to other Ethiopian restaurants down the road for take out. There are 2 to 3 others so I won't be missing this place.

Yelp
Habesha is easy to miss if you're not looking, but once you know it's this - you'll never forget about it! Everything is very flavorful. The menu options are plentiful and the spices are perfectly balanced. The injera is beautifully made to perfection, the baklava is some of the best I've had, and the coffee is strong. The service is friendly, prompt, and kind. The environment is warm, welcoming, and an overall wonderful atmosphere. We can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
We got the vegan beyond full habisha vegetarian combo and the vegan sambusas. The crispy shell vessel on the sambusas was amazing (would be cute if these could be made with that vegan beyond meat that comes with the combo too). The vegan combo was so delicious and we enjoyed all of the dishes that came with it. The injera was awesome too! The staff were friendly and responsive and it's a nice venue. We don't live in the area but would definitely make a trip back for the great food and service.

Yelp
I love this place! It's my favorite Ethiopian food in Seattle. Whoever the older gentleman is that I usually see behind the counter, he's so friendly. He always checks on you during the meal and smiles ear to ear when you tell him the food is delicious. He brought us endless fresh injera. I've gotten mostly the veggie combo here and it's perfect to split between two people. The sandwiches are also great - I forget they have them because I usually come for everything else - but they're surprisingly amazing sandwiches. The fish especially.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite Ethiopian food in Seattle. I feel so lucky to live nearby to many different Ethiopian restaurants, but Amy's is the one that we keep coming back to. I really love both the Doro Wat and green chicken. The Doro Wat is a little bit on the spicier side for me, but it really contributes to the flavor. Usually my husband and I split these two dishes and it's more than enough food for one meal and one of us to have lunch the next day. I also regularly get the pistachio baklava which is sweet and moist. There's also a small market inside and their menu indicates that they serve breakfast sandwiches and lattes so I have never tried either of those. Try a maze and you won't regret it!

Yelp
I'll start by saying maybe it was on off day. Maybe the weekdays would be better but I was dissapointed. Ordered the scrambled eggs and sausage with bread and also a sweet chechebse. The eggs were overcooked but had decent flavor. The French bread was just a hunk of plain French bread. The chechebse was not what I hoped. It tasted day old and slightly stale. Not a lot of flavor. The person there was super nice and friendly and they have a great market. I would try it again but maybe during the day after the pandemic

Yelp
This place is cozy and GREAT spot for coffee! Their Orange Cake is to die for! So much so we didn't have time to take a pic

Yelp
We tried the falafel sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich, goat sandwich, and beef tibs sandwhich. My family enjoyed each dish thoroughly, and I thought prices were very reasonable. It's great to have Amy's Merkato in Hillman City; please support them during the Covid-19 crisis!

Yelp
I write this from the comfort of my couch because I am too stuffed to move... A vegetarian combo absolutely feeds TWO. I have wanted to try Habesha for quite some time and I'm so happy I finally did. I deeply appreciate the freshness and the flavors were wonderful. We opted for the teff injera, it's very nice to have the option. And the sambusas had a richness and a sweetness that I will dream about tonight. My compliments to the chef. Everything was so delicious. We will be back.

Yelp
Let me just start by saying that the lady who helped us today was so very kind, informative and an absolute delight to talk to. She spoke about origins of Teff flour that is used to make injera and such. We were greeted so warmly today that I had to create a yelp account to make it known!! We ended up sharing the meat combo, veggie combo and the lamb wat! Very filling and was comfortably full! We also ordered the black tea that had cinnamon, clove and cardamom it smelt so beautifully and hit the spot. I was able to purchase a few things from their mini grocery store section, including Kibbeh (Ghee) that they make themselves!! I guarantee you will not be disappointed by the customer service or the food.

Yelp
Amy's Merkato is an excellent Ethiopian restaurant as well as small market that contains all sorts of wonderful things that await the customer. The woman behind the counter was One of the owners and she was so helpful and polite. I specifically came here to find the spices for making Ethiopian tea and not only did they have the spice mix at a reasonable price, but they also had Ethiopian black tea! I'm so I bought the spices and the tea as well as a few other items. The smell market area also has some Ethiopian coffee as well as snacks, spices and even sone Ethiopian kitchenware, including coffee sets for the Ethiopian tea Ceremony. The selection is not huge but they also have injera if you want to purchase some and take it home. I bought an Ethiopian tea while I was waiting and examining the spices. The owner told me that there was no star anise in the mix I purchased because many people complained about the licorice taste, but she added some in for me at no extra cost. I'm a fan of anise and I also wanted the tea to taste as it did in Ethiopia. Just so you know, when I got home I made the tea and took just a little bit of the spices and put them in a mortar and pestle and then added them to the tea. Wow, the tea was perfect! I also decided to get a meat and veggie sampler for lunch to go and it was perfect. Not only was there a lot but I also was given more than enough injera, the Ethiopian bread to go with it. I also recommend that you try some of their deserts. The baklava was great! Superb tea, great food, excellent dessert and fantastic service. I give this place five stars! Please check this place out and make sure you get a tea!
