Found this gem of a bakery. Family owned and ran like the good old days. As you walk in you fell like your transported to the days where pride was essential in your business. The ladies greet you and makes you feel welcomed I have to say its amazing. From the butter cookies, butter cake to my favorite dutch chocolate cake. It was moist almost silk like textured.I do recommend to call and place your order.

Haegele's is family owner and I love everything its an addiction you can't just buy one thing everything is delicious. They represent Philly as well. Gotta try if you haven't 🤗😋

Haegele’s Bakery is an absolute gem! Their jelly doughnuts are out of this world — soft, fresh, and perfectly filled. And the chocolate chip cookies? Pure nostalgia — they taste just like the ones from childhood, warm, buttery, and comforting. Every time I come back to Philly, I have to stop here and stock up. The quality, flavor, and old-fashioned charm never disappoint. A true Philly treasure!

How did I not know about this bakery. It was absolutely delicious. We purchased a cake for my wifes birthday which we did not eat yet but the cream donuts were fresh and delicious. The woman running the store was very friendly and even put a cake aside since I could not make it until later in the afternoon. The prices are probably the best around for the quality of the food you get. We will be back to sample more now that I found this bakery.

Love Haegele’s! Hands down the best bakery I’ve ever been to and I’ve lived all over the country. We live an hour away now and still consider the drive worth it. It’s a family owned business. With an old world charm that hasn’t changed in the 30 years we’ve been going. Everything they make is incredible. So much better than the stuff that passes for ‘baked goods’ in supermarkets.

Stopped in to pick up some goodies for my boyfriend’s birthday. The woman behind the counter was so incredibly nice and helpful with her recommendations. I originally went for the butter cake, but ended up also taking home a bee cake (delicious), 2 slices of Bavarian cream cake (incredible) and the apple strudel. The bakery is CASH ONLY, but even with all of the items I purchased, it was only around $15 which I thought was a great deal. We will absolutely be turning into repeat customers and we will be back.

Still one of the best bakeries around. Everything is always fresh and doesn’t disappoint. I always took my mother there as we were from Mayfair. I continue to drive there from Bucks County, for they are still the best around.

I’ve lived in Mayfair since 2006 and yesterday as the first time I tried this bakery. The French jelly twists were delicious!!!! The cupcakes were just OK but the hazelnut torte was really tasty! Cream donuts were good but not as good as Holmesburg Bakery’s cream donuts! The staff is very nice!

Haegele's Bakery is a real deal German dough and oven master in the heart of Northeast Philadelphia. It sits on the first floor of a row house at the corner of Barnett and Erdrick Streets in Mayfair. Although the retail shop is small, with display cases in front and bread shelving behind the sales space for the white clad family workers, the variety of breads, pastries, cookies and cakes are pretty enormous. Even when I arrived late in the morning, and they were sold out of their most popular items, I was able to score some fantastic examples of their craftsmanship. I grabbed a couple of Bavarian Cream filled donuts, with excess white cream exuding from all angles. They were light textured with a lovely mild sweetness that was instantly addictive. The perfect companion to fresh brewed java. I saw bricks of pound cake on a high shelf and inquired about the orange colored variety sitting among the white and brown frosted beauties that reminded of another famous local baker. I had never imaged Orange Pound Cake with Orange frosting was a thing, but learning that it was, and that it tasted like a creamsicle, I got excited and asked for a half brick. I shared slices of it at home last night with my love. It was also stupendous! It was moist, rich and true to its advertised flavor of orange cream. Should have gone with the whole one. Finally, a Garlic Twist Loaf came home with me. It looked like challah with roast garlic nibs on top. I cut off a chunk, spread butter on both exposed surfaces and lay two slices of imported swiss on top. Simple cheese sammy, but it all went well together with the bread freshly baked and the dairy adding its wholesome touch. Liked it a lot. I was too late for their rolls, round donuts and brownies, but rest assured, I will return earlier in the day to get my hands on them before they sell out. Haegele's is a classic Philadelphia institution that demands your attention and will please both your buds and sense of adventure about the many cool neighborhoods of this great city.

Their donuts are to die for! Seriously, their cinnamon ones that look like cinnamon buns and top with vanilla or chocolate icing are soo delicious. They're crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. Definitely a place to get donuts from if you want really good ones! And they're not expensive, which is crazy! They're around the same price as Dunkin which- I will always choose a haegeles over Dunkin any day of the week. And the people there are so nice! Love the history of the bakery and I just overall love it.

I'm happily married into the Haegele Family! Pictured is a beautiful and delicious pound cake with buttercream wedding cake made with extra love by my husband, Joshua. The flowers were provided by our florist! Guests went back for second/third slices. You cannot go wrong with any selection in the store. I highly suggest trying something new at every visit!! My favorite- cinnamon crullers!

Notes: (1) CASH ONLY (2) Street parking in narrow streets. Came here in the morning to pick up some donuts as I was tired of getting dunkin. I didn't think it would be much of a difference but I was so wrong. The donuts here are so fresh and delicious! I got a variety of donuts and danish for $1.50 each which is reasonably priced. I had the jelly donut and the apple danish and by far, it was the best jelly donut that I've had! They had a variety of treats from cookies to cakes. Definitely recommend trying this place out.

If you are on a hunt for solid pastries and desserts in northeast philly, don't overlook Haegeles. I personally measure pastry shops of jelly donuts (if they have them,) and they lived up to my expectations. They have a true, seedy jelly - tastes fresh & great ratio. I wish they had granulated sugar, but the powdered sugar was actually pretty light still and didnt take away form the jelly itself too much. I had an assortment of pastries though, and everything was solid! You can't go wrong. They do speciality & seasonal cakes. It is only street parking, so be prepared to circle the block if necessary. Would definitely go back!

The orange cake with orange icing is very delicious. This bakery is a gem that I accidentally discovered about five years back. The people are always friendly. The location is always nice and parking is never a problem. It's easy to see why they have been in business for generations.

I just started working in the area recently and my coworker brought in a box of jelly and cream doughnuts from "a great local German bakery". I had to try one of each and they were amazing. Light and fluffy dough, healthy dusting of sugar on top, the jelly and cream were sweet but not over the top where you can only finish one doughnut at a time. I'm ecstatic to have this place close by now and am looking forward to trying their signature jelly sticks, eclairs, and the rest of the menu options. I will be reporting back after further tests and trials.

This gem has been around since 1930. It's a corner rowhome and it's in pristine condition. It's the sweetest, coziest bakery I've ever been to and will definitely return. They are known for their butter cakes and German pastries. The lemon meringue pie is PHENOMENAL! It's more like a curd consistency. The crullers and jelly donuts are must too. I can't wait to try the chocolate chip pound cake next. Please note it's cash only. You can also order ahead if you want something specific.

An amazing place! We ordered our Christmas Yule log and a cake here. The phone was answered quickly by a skilled and extremely helpful woman who got our order in quickly with ho trouble. When I arrived on Christmas Eve afternoon the store was spotless inside and out with the display cases perfectly clean and streak free, all the chrome glinted in the light. The women working all wore immaculate perfectly clean uniforms and were universally helpful and nice. The displays demanded that I buy some cookies and assorted other stuff, and for the quality the price was good. All our food was really delicious with nice flavor perfectly decorated and flawless! I highly recommend Haegeles!

Cream donuts are heaven, sticky buns are great too, I haven't tried much else. Cash only.

A hidden gem of an old school family run bakery located in a residential area. Very good variety of baked goods and very reasonable prices. We stop there to stock up on pastries whenever we visit family in Philadelphia. I believe they've been in business since 1930.

Old (since 1930), clean, authentic bakery that puts your orders inside of a classic, white, sturdy paper box, and then they securewith string fed from a hanging steel canister. Excellent butter cake, Washington cake, etc.

Not to sweet, which my family prefers. They loved it! It was first eaten alone, but vanilla ice cream complemented it very well! It was a little messy slicing it, especially the next day, but my young sons didn't mind. I've never heard of this bakery before, but based on the Peach Crumble, we can recommend. Without question.

My King Deno absolutely loves it here because for his birthday one year many years ago I went in and goth a strawberry shortcake for his birthday cake and it was reasonably priced and he was just absolutely thrilled with the deliciousness and freshness of this cake and now I go every year

I grew up smelling the baking from here. Despite being away for 46 years I still dream of their pastries. Sticky buns , jelly tarts, butter cakes, etc. I try to stop by whenever I'm in philly. Nothing compares to their flavor. God, I miss living near this bakery

Way over priced! I ordered a pound cake, but what I received was a crumbled mess! 0 taste and the cake itself was not decorated at all. I did provide specifics but it was so plain that even a 3 year old could've done better job. Never again!

Best brownies EVER. I've been eating desserts from Haegeles ever since my stepmother moved to the Mayfair area about 24 years ago. The quality and taste have not changed. Their pina colada pie and chocolate chip cookies are other favorites in my family. A great, reliable, family-owned bakery.

From cakes to donuts to luv bugs to fastnacht....this is the place to go! There isn't a bad thing here! Every item is made with love and old world traditions. You cant find a better bakery in the northeast. Of you havent been, you really need to go

The bakery has been around forever is a neighborhood staple. They are George Washington cake is to die for!

I didn't visit the store but was given several donuts on Shrove Tuesday. These donuts are also known as fasnachts. The donuts are yeast donuts made with potato flour. They are not particularly sweet and were dusted with cinnamon sugar. They were tasty but not enough for me to line up before dawn to get them as was seen on the news.

I got my daughters graduation cake here this weekend. When I ordered the cake the girl was very nice and helpful. When I picked it up the girl at the counter was not very friendly. However the cake did look nice, I feel they did a good job on the decorating of it. I got a chocolate chip poundcake with buttercream frosting. The cake was very dry and disappointing. Some of the guests said it was the worst cake they had ever had. I would Definitely not order another pound cake from here.

It was an ok place. I found some of the pastries on the dry side. I did enjoy the cake called the bienenstich or butter cake. Its a yellow cake filled with vanilla cream and the top is covered with almonds drizzled with honey.

This place keeps my jeans fitting tight. My favorite bakery the best coconut macaroons and donuts I've ever had!

Super kind and helpful. The strawberry shortcake was a slice of HEAVEN. I'm not a cake person, but I couldn't get enough of it. And neither could my 1 year old. She ate the entire piece and licked the plate clean. Thank you!!

I was looking for the reviews online today for bakery near me and this place popped up. The reviews were good so that is why I went there. The staff is so welcoming and nice! The pastry I tasted, was heavenly:) Please try Butter Cake:):):)

This bakery has been operated at the same location, by the same family since 1930. This alone should tell you how attentive and wonderful the family is who runs this establishment. My family has been going here since the 1950's. Now I take my children here. Try the fruit pies!!! By far their best item, the jelly sticks. If you want to try some superb German Pastries, then this is place is a MUST!!!

My grandmother use to take my sister and I here when we were young. We always would get the "smiley face" cookies. Since then, I have loved this bakery! Nothing compares! My mom loves their doughnuts, my hhsband loves their brownies. The Washington cake, chocolate logs, blueberry cupcakes, apple cake are all amazing! I love the pretzels they sell for New Years as well. They made my wedding cake. It was chocolate chip with buttercream. It was beautiful and delicious!

This was my first time stopping in after living in the area for nearly 20yrs. Don't let the small bakery fool you. This place packs big flavor. It has everything from cookies and donuts to strudels and cakes. I decided to go with a Philadelphia tradition and try the butter cake. One bite and I was hooked. It was fresh, rich and creamy. Hands down one of the best butter cakes I've ever tried. I'll be back!

Best butter cake ever! Bought one for the girls at work one day then for the next two days I had co workers asking where it was located. Butter cake from here is my guilty pleasure! I used to buy it as a teenager with my allowance!

I discovered this place about 2 years ago and was surprised at how great they are. With so many old time bakeries closing in the city, glad to see this one is still around. A traditional German bakery, their pastries are excellent, and the vanilla creme donuts are crazy good. They also do great seasonal desserts throughout the year. I always try to stop by when in the area for some great desserts, Prost!

You can't go wrong here. The Bienenstich is one of my favorite things ever as are the donuts. Everyone is helpful and all of the baked goods are delicious. Everything is reasonably priced. One trip and you'll be hooked.

AHHHMAZING...Haegeles provided the cake for my wedding last month. The staff was very professional throughout the process. They were responsive to our needs, provided guidance where we needed it, and showed up with the cake in perfect condition. The cake was absolutely delicious, we had a two tier (chocolate chip and marble) pound cake. We tried several bakeries in the Philly area leading up to this find, upon entry we knew immediately it was the one. The cake was very moist and true to the flavor. Our chocolate chip pound cake was loaded with large chips and the marble was perfectly proportioned. They offer four flavors of pound cake: vanilla, marble, choc. chip, and orange. Pound cake is not their only specialty, they offer a large range of pastries and cakes. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, cream donuts, jelly donuts, butter cake, jelly twist, the list goes on! The main menu was clearly our focus for the evening, but you cannot forget the cake. Our guests raved that evening, and we'e still hearing great things! We will be going back to Haegeles for many upcoming occasions in the future. Haegeles is a hidden gem and I would highly recommend this bakery! Tip: The bakery is cash only, and they will deliver at a very reasonable charge within the Philadelphia area.

Love this little neighborhood bakery! Old fashioned feel, friendly service. Their fruit tarts are so pretty and are a nice dessert to bring to a party. Everything there is delicious - creme filled doughnuts, butter cake, bee squares...

You can't go wrong here. Bring cash. And more than you think. There is such a wild assortment of goods, you can't help yourself. Don't forget the hamburger rolls. I like to grill the roll into a grilled cheese stuffed with egg.

Amazing baked goods at really fair prices. Love the cream doughnuts, sticky buns, not so much the bee cake. Everything is fresh and sooo good! Got a huge obst tart filled with custard and topped w/ fresh fruit. Thing weighed at least 5 lbs, was delicious and not too sweet.Served at least 8 and was only like $10 or so. Also got an excellent slice of chocolate raspberry wein cake for $1.75. $1.75!!!!!!. Unbelievable. You gotta go here! Rye bread was good as well. And their pumpkin pie is one of the best I've had.

Their stuff is fabulous - especially their butter cake! The place is so clean! One of the few bakeries left in our area of the city. Please keep them going!

Although I have tried Haegeles sweets at St Tims functions, today was my first visit to the bakery itself. I have to say, the atmosphere was authentic, the staff was very friendly and efficient. The bakery is very clean and well maintained, and everything is priced just right. Last but not least, the sweets are out of this world, you will not be disappointed. The cream donuts are incredible. Do yourself a favor and stop by this local gem.

Haegele's is a wonderful bakery. Lots of very delicious baked goods. We particularly like the jelly sticks, butter cake, fresh peach cake..Everything tastes great. They also did a great job for my daughter's wedding. Her wedding cake was beautiful and tasted wonderful. Many of our guests wanted to know where we got it from and we were sure to tell them. Thanks to Glenn and Steve for the Cake and other sweets! This Bakery is well worth the 45 minute drive from NJ!

Decided to come up the street and finally try this place. I got a butter cake and 2 cream donuts per the reviews suggestions. The chocolate cream donut was just ok. I am assuming they use the same base cream recipe, as they do with the white cream, just alter to add chocolate. If that is the case, the vanilla one will be ok also. Now about the butter cake, there are 2 butter cake kinds i am familiar with. The butter cake from here is ok. It tastes like a sheet of glazed donut. I PREFER the butter cake that has more of a liquid glaze on top. There is another local bakery that makes the butter cake in the style i am familiar with. Will be trying theirs now. The customer service here is lacking also. I don't know what it is with local bakeries and their customer service. There were 2 girls behind the counter. I was obviously new to the bakery. It would have been nice had she offered help or showed interest other than looking over my shoulder to the other customers that walked in after me.

We just celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary and had our cake made by Haegele's Bakery. The cake was beautiful and we received many compliments of how good it was . Fifty years ago on the 21st of May Haegles made my wedding cake. I was so happy that they were still in business so that they could again make our special day even more special. A big thank you. P S. Just a two minute walk from the main street (Frankford) you'll find this gem hidden away.. Always fresh and delicious. This is a perfect German bakery.

A european friend of mine wanted a Black Forest cake for her birthday, and was esctatic with the one baked here - Almost everybody from the party asks me "When are you heading up to that bakery next?" when they see me - Some, two months later! I got some Butter cake for myself as well, and wound up eating all of it within two days! Prices are great, staff is incredibly friendly. Take the blue line out to Farnkford, get on the 66 and it'll drop you off within a block.

While I usually gravitate towards more expensive, hipstery bakeries, this place is great. I've never been disappointed by anything I've gotten. Their smiley face cookies are great, and they make fantastic cakes that they sell by the slice.

Take a step back in time at this lovely corner bakery, where the staff wear starched white dresses and the prices don't break the bank! Our group of 8 enthusiastic sweet seekers crowded into Haegele's on a Saturday afternoon, trying not to go too crazy with our purchases. We ended up with some onion croissants (35 cents apiece), an almond pastry, a half portion of Philadelphia style cheesecake (flat & square), some rye bread, and a bee cake (with honey). We were pleased with everything that we bought at Haegele's. This bakery has been around since 1935 and they certainly have the winning recipe for a great bakery experience!

I was going to say that if this bakery got anything under five stars then Yelp wasn't worth its hype. I'm glad to see my fear was totally unfounded. I've been here a few times and this is, hands down, the best bakery in the city. Their vanilla cream donuts are absolutely to die for, their brownies are heavenly, the coffee cake and cheese cake are just the best. I seriously have to stay as far away from here as I would balloon to 500 pounds gorging on this stuff - and love every second of it! Their display case is chock-full of mouth-watering treats. From the aforementioned to butter cookies, almond cookies, Washington cake, everything is savory - and reasonably priced. The only negative is the location. I do love the old corner store feel, the smallness of the bakery (there's barely enough standing room for three people), but its location is hard to find for those who are not familiar with Northeast Philadelphia. From Frankford and Robbins Avenues, you have to make two turns on two small streets - and you're screwed if you miss one of those turns. The place is so difficult to find that the bakery even has a map on the back of its business card! But, outside of that inconvenience, Haegele's is simply the best. You won't know where to look or what to buy. Now to try their fastnachts next year.
