It was a nice first experience. The sushi kinda reminded me of Tokyo or Kyoto sushi, wasn’t anything special or new. The atmosphere was really nice and dark, everything was quiet and clean.

My husband and I decided to try Hajime out for lunch and we were very pleased with the experience. I ordered the 3 roll meal (~$13.50) and got a Boston roll, eel cucumber roll, and spicy crab roll. Very heavy on the cucumber for the Boston and eel roll, but it was very fresh and honestly a great balance with the meatiness of the spicy crab roll. In the future I’d order an eel avocado roll instead to balance out the flavors a bit better. My husband got a meal that had 5 pieces of sushi as well as a California roll. He enjoyed it, said they were light on the rice so you could really taste the fish, and enjoyed that rolls were filled up with extra veggies rather than extra rice. I don’t remember what his meal was called but it was $15 or less. Both of us also got a complimentary bowl of miso with our meals, which was great, as miso is my favorite. The miso was flavorful, lots of seaweed and a good amount of tofu, and the tofu was very soft. Both of our meals, along with a Diet Pepsi (and multiple free refills) was only $32 after tax. Great deal for a TON of food- would definitely recommend eating here for lunch. As for the service, it was great. We were able to find parking easily, got seated within 2 minutes of entering the restaurant, and had a really nice female waiter who refilled our drinks and took away our dishes when we were finished. The only negative is that the restaurant itself is very very dark. I love low lighting, but as we were sat near the bar and away from the windows, it was genuinely difficult to read the menu or see anything very well. Other than that, this is a great restaurant and I really enjoyed my experience here. Would surely come again for lunch sometime.

Google
This was my first time eating here *and* my first time having sushi! Both were great experiences. I ordered from delivery, so I can't speak on the inside of the restaurant, but I can definitely speak on the quality of the food. Saying the food was fresh is an understatement - it was so good, crisp and flavorful. I tried 3 different rolls and can't wait to try additional items from here. Ordered during 'happy hour' and the prices were fantastic!

We (2) were greeted and seated immediately when we entered. There was no wait even though the place was quite busy. Our server brought us water, did not take our drink order, and then didn’t return for at least 15 minutes. Our server spent more time leaning against a chair or hiding in the back than she did serving. I watched our food sit on the counter for at least ten minutes (along with 5 other plates of food) before someone told her there was a pile of food waiting to be ran. We ordered the Omakase (50) which she said would be similar to the meal for two (except its chefs choice). We received 2 less pieces of sushi and 3 less pieces of sashimi that what is listed on the meal for two. However, we did receive two special rolls instead of 1 special and 1 California mentioned in the meal for two description. The amount of food was not enough for two people, I would suggest ordering the 70$ instead of 50 for two. The quality of the food was good, portions were small. I’ve had similar experiences here with service before and am just that much closer to not returning.

Google
I've been here a few times and always enjoy their food; the sushi roll was particularly good. In particular, their calamari. Since their lightning is so dark, the only downside was their atmosphere. When you eat, you can hardly see anything. I would come back in order that they could have more light.

Vincent Schneider

Google
Hajime quickly became one of our top sushi places in the northern suburbs. The quality is excellent and the service and atmosphere is great, but maybe a little dark on the lighting.

Dear Rachel

Google
Hajime is my favorite place to eat sushi. not only is the food scrumptious & affordable, the staff are very courteous! The vibes are great! Highly recommend. I come from Eden Prairie ❤️

Google
My wife and I go at least once a month and sit at the bar. The bartender Jen is one of the best servers we've ever had, she is knowledgeable and always has the best recommendations. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Can't say enough great things about the service!! If you're looking for a great date night, sit at the bar, order a lychee martini, spicy Kani salad and go from there, you won't regret it!! Let Jen take care of you 10/10

Yelp
My son and I spent the day together. He loves sushi so I brought him to Hajime for the first time. I let him pick out our sushi and he suggested we get fried rice to share (which I was going to suggest as well). I figured we'd be in sync with our choices and I was right. Our server was very prompt and friendly. When we got our sushi and dug in, there were lots of "mmm" and "yum" noises. Our chicken fried rice came out soon after and that was delicious as well.

Yelp
4 stars! This was my first time at the Blaine restaurant. Our experience was just as good if not better than the Elk River location. The food was good, the service was great, and the restaurant itself is nice & modern looking. I feel the prices are reasonable too. I ordered miso soup and 4 types of tuna based sushi rolls. Everything was great and on-point. My buddy ordered a couple of appetizer type items. He really enjoyed his food too. We topped it all off with 3 flavors of mochi ice cream. Yum! I'd go back again any time. Thanks for another nice experience, Hajime! -Maxx

Yelp
We went to Hajime for happy hour and we ordered off the happy hour menu. The pork gyozo are a bargain. price. At happy hour, the sushi assortment shown below is actually pretty decent for happy hour menu. No complaints. 4.25/5 I wouldn't mind coming here for dinner sometime.

Yelp
If you wanna go get all you can eat.. don't go here. This is not a place for all you can eat sushi. The service was good, very helpful and refilling water. The ambiance was alright too, it was a chill vibe, not very loud. The food was good. It could be better. The udon noodle soup was good. Many of the sushi rolls were good. The shumai was delicious, but it is super small. The chicken katsu and tonkatsu were good, they come in big portions. The unagi rice bowl was good, a good amount of eel was put into the bowl, the eel was super soft. Overall, a good place to eat for only a couple of people to try out sushi. For big family, go to an all you can eat. You'll spend about the same.

Yelp
We are definitely repeat customers of Hajime. Their fried rice (with the sauce mixed in) is probably our favorite fried rice at a Japanese restaurant. Pretty quick overall from being seated to ordering to getting your food. And their specialty rolls are great! I only give one less star because the size of their rolls could be bigger for the price. But still a great spot!

Yelp
All the love for Hajime! Having a few sushi restaurants in the area - this is one of my favorites, specifically for their HH deals. Service is usually pretty good with food coming out fairly quickly. Ling is one of our favorite servers - always so kind and attentive. She remembers every bit of detail (i.e. extra condiments) without even needing to ask. Ambiance is fine - they have plenty of seating but during HH it can get busy. It's located in a strip mall but there are usually parking available. They have a good amount of seating - the lighting is dimmed but nice overall. We often order to go from here - HH works for takeout too! Some of our favorite go tos: - spider roll - shrimp tempura roll or crunchy roll if we're wanting the extra crunch - chicken fried rice (extra sauce - trust me on this) - seafood stir fried udon noodles - sometimes can be soggy but a good dish for the kiddos - spicy kani salad - calamari - pieces are smaller bits, but the sauce they serve with it is really yummy. Better eaten during dine in versus take out. :) - yellow tail jalapeño roll Yum yum yum!

Yelp
I've tried several of their sushi rolls and a few appetizers all were good. It's a nice place the only real knock on it is that it's very loud inside. It's best to go at less busy time if they go on a wait it is a mess with their post it note system and the pick up's all channeling to one overwhelmed employee. But the food is good, refills and service is a bit slow.

Yelp
Love this place! Great for lunch, dinner with family or date night! It's a favorite! Great food, service and the place is always clean.

Yelp
This place is located in a strip mall and on a hungry night we stopped here. The place is brightly lit and seemed to be the local watering hole for your average collage kids. It was very loud and lots of chatter but I was mesmerized by the artistry of the chefs. The sushi was very good and tasted fresh. Some of the non raw items were not as expected but we ended up here due to the late hours. You can watch the chefs prepare meals and watch them make it all decorative for a great presentation. I was happy with the food. The menu was very large and the happy hour was great. We had lots of food and a desert for under 40 bucks per person.

Yelp
Really fun little date night with the hubby here at the Blaine Hajime ! Unfortunately what is shown online is a half hour off and the sign on the door stated happy hour ends at 530 so we sadly missed it. Nonetheless, Hajime still offers tasty sushi at a reasonable price per roll so we stayed and enjoyed our fill. The nigiri tasted fresh on top of a perfectly cooked bed of rice. My husband also tried the beef negimaki that he enjoyed but noted there were a bit too many onions. My classic California roll and shrimp tempura roll were chefs kiss delicious. Will definitely be back and early enough to make HH!
google avatar

Troy S.

Yelp
Nice decor. The menu fine print is tiny, take a middle age fella like myself in a dark room...I couldn't read it. The rolls have fine print describing what's in them. We had the edamame, pork gyoza, and yaki maki (octopus balls) as apps and all were delicious. I had the Superior Roll whic was good along with the seafood yaka soba. The noodle dish was just okay. Nice decor. Friendly, attentive service.

Yelp
Best sushi in town by far! I like the atmosphere and the service has always been great

Yelp
Hajime offers super tasty food with great value. The chicken fried rice is exceptional. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went here after a coworker gave me the recommendation. My fiancé and I went during the late night happy hour and everything we ordered was on the happy hour. The service was good and our waiter was very attentive and checked in perfectly. We started with the pork gyoza, sweet potato tempura, and chicken fried rice. They were all good, the tempura batter was so light and perfectly crunchy. I loved it. The pork gyoza's came with a good dipping sauce that had the perfect kick to it. The chicken fried rice was not my favorite. I liked that it comes with yum yum sauce but the rice was sweeter and it's because of the onions they put in it. I didn't care for it but my fiancé loved it. Then we ordered the sweet potato roll, sweet & sassy roll, and spicy crab roll add avocado. We loved all of them! The quality was good and I would definitely go back. Our check was $45, which is so good for all we got. We usually order similar food items from our other sushi place but spend over $100 even on happy hour. We will return, I definitely recommend.

Yelp
Good food, friendly fast service. Has options for vegetarian/vegan. I would recommend.

Yelp
Food was beyond Delicious, and the customer is great . Very friendly. Definitely my new Sushi spot

Yelp
Hajime in Coon Rapids deserves a special shout-out for their amazing mussels, tasty drinks, and amazing sushi. The mussels are cooked just right and have a burst of flavor in every bite. They have a lot of different drinks that go perfectly with your meal. And their sushi is so fresh and delicious, you won't believe it. Whether you love seafood, enjoy drinks, or really like sushi, Hajime is a place you have to try.

Huacee Y.

Yelp
My daughter was craving Sushi and we decided to try out this spot. Everything we ordered was amazing. I love how the sushi rolls were small and not overpowered with rice. The calamari was crispy and I really like how they made it a salad with the dipping sauce. All the sashimi was refreshing and I was able to get the last hamachi Kama which was amazing as well.
google avatar

Serena X.

Yelp
I recommend take out during happy hour! This is my family's go-to spot for takeout sushi
google avatar

Keaira G.

Yelp
I the sushi is great! But my favorite item on the menu is short ribs! The fried rice is good as well, ask for a side of yum yum to make it better!
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
We go to Hajime so often they know us and our order. And while we've eaten sushi all across America and in various level of spend, Hajime has held its own very very well. The Sushi is on point, the service great and it's always busy but rarely too busy not to sit you. Cannot say enough how good this place is
google avatar

Tara J.

Yelp
Anytime I'm in Blaine, I always try to stop in at Hajime! They have great happy hour deals and are open late which is always great. Their Smoke Roll and Spicy Girl roll are incredible. We've come in with large groups and they've always been accommodating. Their fried rice comes with yum yum sauce and is always solid. I highly recommend Hajime for a sushi spot that is low maintenance, quick and not too expensive! The best of all worlds!
google avatar

Yelp
When my friends asked me to go to dinner all the way to Blaine, I knew it had to be good. We arrived right before 9:00 p.m. for dinner and the restaurant was still a bit busy, this was on a Sunday night. The decor and interior were beautiful. it felt like fine dining if you asked me. The tables were spaced out. I went with... Vegetable Tempura - Well battered and tasted hot from the fryer. A nice assortment of different vegetables but did wish that there were two of each veggie. Sushi - Perfect to my likings. I enjoy my sushi as a one-biter rather than a 2-3 bite sushi roll. Just the perfect amount of rice. the flavors blended well with each dip of soy sauce. Overall, a fantastic choice for a late dinner!

Franky L.

Yelp
The sushi was not good. The suishi felt kinda stale. The service was okay. I wouldn't go back to this place.
google avatar

Kat K.

Yelp
This is by far the best sushi place you can find. I love how it's tucked up in suburbs so if you don't know the Blaine area you most likely won't know this gem existed! I moved to Arizona and San Diego, and this by far is the best place for sushi that I've found! They have happy hour every single day from 3 to 6 and then at night 9 PM until close and Sundays happy hour all day you can't beat those prices it's amazing! You need to try it for yourself! 10 out of 10 what

Yelp
Hajime is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Everything we order is consistently good. Great sushi and great service! The staff are aware of food allergies and the kitchen is careful when cooking. We have celiac and dairy allergies in our family and they do a great job!
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Favorite sushi place in the area! Great rolls and hibachi. I come here all the time with friends and family, the service is always great! I also like getting their take out.
google avatar

Marcin C.

Yelp
Great, fresh sushi. We loved the quality of the food. Only complaint is there is no outside dining and the restaurant is a bit dark.
google avatar

Alexa S.

Yelp
Ordered togo this time around. Ordered Sushi Maki, 3 rolls & a salad for $12.50: eel and avocado, california, and spicy tuna roll. Salad or soup is complementary with meals. The dressing is a yummy ginger flavor! They gave a side of soy sauce, classic wasabi and pickled ginger. I love trying new rolls and doing lunch here gives me the opportunity to pick out new rolls! My togo order only took about 10 minutes. Can't wait to try something new next time!
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
Nice little place in the north metro. Typical mod Japanese feel if you're eating in. Happy hour prices are great and the food is alright. I wouldn't say it's the greatest sushi place of all time but it's location is what really makes it great.
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Don't order takeout from Hajime in Blaine, I hope dine in is a lot better experience. Our order today was a total miss. We ordered the Hajime Rainbow roll and the Blaine roll (we order a few other standard rolls also) and both our rolls did not come out as what the menu listed. The rainbow roll is a pretty standard roll, instead of the different fishes and avocado on top they used the tobiko to create the "rainbow." We had no other types of fish that was listed on our roll. Our Blaine roll was missing the shrimp tempura and was replaced with imitation crab. Pretty disappointed and we were too far from there to go back to make a complaint. Definitely don't think I will return.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! 100% would go again, but would want a better server. My boyfriend and I had Jen and she was extremely rude. Made snarky comments to me multiple times, and yelled at me because I put a $50 in the folder to pay with first then put my card behind it to pay the rest with.

Scott N.

Yelp
All time favorite sushi place. My family has a wide range of interests- including one no seafood person- they hit it for everyone. The staff are super helpful. Out to go orders are ready quickly. The pick up process is easy. Very reasonably priced. Above all the food is delicious.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
It's a little spendy but worth it! I have no problem paying for good food! This is one of my favorite places to go, I love the atmosphere, and it's close to everything. The lunch specials are awesome! Great service and very clean!

Malina M.

Yelp
Haj has the best sushi in all of Minnesota. The service is always great, they really go above and beyond to accommodate you. It's always a great time going there especially with the nice purple lighting setting a nightlife mood and being family friendly at the same time.

Michelle N.

Yelp
This is my go-to sushi restaurant in Blaine (Despite my lower rating). Some of their rolls are good, but at times fish freshness can be inconsistent. I do recall one visit where I was pressured about my reservation because the other part of my group had not arrived. So they bluntly said if they were not here I would have to give up my reservation... Even though it was 5 minutes prior to my reservation time.
google avatar

Natasha T.

Yelp
The best sushi in Blaine, MN. I love their happy hour and have enjoyed getting to know the staff as they are so thoughtful and readily available! They also don't hurry you to finish and eat, so they can seat other customers.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
Stopped by for takeout last weekend. Staff was fast and friendly. Social distance and masks were required. Ordered the chicken katsu combo which included shumai, California roll and white rice. It was a generous portion. It was delicious! Will definitely be back to try other items on menu!
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
Sushi lovers should flock here. Service was great and the waitress was really helpful with answering our questions. The price is worth it! My bf and I go here every once and a while to treat ourselves to some great sushi (and desert)
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Okay. Is it the most authentic? No. Is it the freshest and most Japanese food you have ever seen? No. Do they have fresh fish, interesting flavor combinations for rolls, cook dishes, and cocktails? YES. Great service, attentive, and knowledgable. They are one of the only places that I have found in which they still have happy hour from 3-6PM M-F and all day Sunday. The happy hour is great with a good variety of drinks for cheap (wells for $2.50) and a good amount of both sushi, cooked appetizers, and sushi rolls. My favorite roll here is the North Shore Roll, which has seaweed on top and 3 different types of caviar. It is just a unctuous bite with ingredients inside that melt in your mouth, and then there is the refreshing seaweed salad and the "pop!" of the caviar/roe. So very good! The ambiance is contemporary with purple/bluish lighting, moderate decor and light fixtures. I have seen all of the servers and chefs wear masks appropriately, they sanitize, use hand sanitizer, wipe down tables thoroughly between guests and use disposable menus. Whenever I am in the area, (or even when I am not it is worth the trek...) this is a go-to sushi spot!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
We went with a large party for dinner and everything was perfect. We had about ten different rolls, gyoza, yakiniku, and chicken katsu. Each item was awesome and very very tasty! The katsu sauce was unique and I really enjoyed it. Drinks stayed full and server was super attentive-all in all perfect experience!

John C.

Yelp
Great food and one of the best gin martinis in the twin cities area. Love the sushi and sashimi. They make a wonderful tuna avocado salad for lunch. Try sitting at the sushi bar for a fun and delicious experience. Service is always warm and friendly and reasonably fast. Ambience could use some polishing. Has kind of a cafeteria feel. But with food and drinks and service this good, who needs great ambiance?

K O.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, great sushi and good prices plus fantastic service not to mention there happy hour deals. If you don't feel like driving downtown for sushi this place always hits the spot. We love going for "sushi Sundays" as a family, they have all day happy hour, many of there rolls and appetizers are on discount during it, not to mention there rail drinks and domestic pints. There crunchy roll, sweet n sassy roll, philly roll and the spicy crab are amongst our favorites. Not to mention there spicy kani salad is an absolute must try.
google avatar

Kripa M.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best sushi places I've ever been to and so close to home. My hubby kept going on and on about how good this place is so I jokingly said couple nights ago that we should go for dinner. Didn't think he would say yes since he was there the night prior to that. He wasn't wrong, sushi is amazing here. We started with pan fried Pork dumplings. The filling was so good and the wrap was perfectly fried with perfect amount of crispiness. Ended up getting 4 different rolls, Ocean lover roll, Pikachu roll, Devil roll and Poison Spider roll. All 4 were amazing but my two favorites were the Ocean lover and Pikachu rolls. Ocean lover had Lobster salad with Mango inside. Mango was a nice touch. Pikachu had Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, papaya with snow crab salad on top. Absolutely delicious! Service was outstanding as well. Our server was friendly and was on top of his game. We had a great experience. We will certainly be back for more amazing sushi.

Danelle W.

Yelp
This restaurant is in the regular rotation of places I eat in Blaine. It is a great place for sushi and the staff are so nice. Recently I accidentally forgot to request my order to be gluten free and when I went to go pick it up they remade a roll for me. I was so thankful as I was tired when I placed my order and just simply forgot to ask. Just another reason to go back and order again.
google avatar

Carly F.

Yelp
Great HH. Love the fried rice. The service is not so good though - unless you belly up at the bar. The servers seem like they all hate their job.
google avatar

Carie B.

Yelp
Every time I have been here, it's been amazing. Looove their shrimp fried rice and their spicy crab roll. Service is good and restaurant is clean and well kept. 10/10 would recommend!!
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
I was so excited about trying this sushi Happy Hour up in Blaine. The decor is Minneapolis purple/rave/upscale bar from the 1980's style. They had a good variety of rolls on the Happy Hour list. Score! The prices were good too so I could choose more than one! Excited to see eel and rainbow too. The spicy crab was pretty good. The spicy mango shrimp wasn't spicy and the mango had no flavor since it was so green. At least the price was right. My favorite app ever Tako Yaki was on HH too, Woo Hoo! Sadly they were under cooked. Super doughy and flavorless on the inside yet scorching hot oily on the outside. The other star was for the attentive service and the $2.50 beers. I don't think I'd make the long trip up there again.

Erin T.

Yelp
Happy hour deals are amazing! Food is always really good and service is always fast and friendly.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
I stop here frequently especially during happy hour. Sushi is fresh and good. Fried rice is okay but comes with yum yum sauce which makes it better. Friend loves the sashimi. Service is average
