7 ways to eat and shop your way through Fukuoka - SilverKris

"A humble, no‑frills ramen shop tucked beside a nondescript building that serves an iconic, creamy tonkotsu broth; the shop signals it is open with a simple blue bucket outside and enforces a strict etiquette—taste the soup first, savour noodles before adding takana, and no photography or smartphone use—creating a focused, sanctified experience for serious ramen lovers." - Tom Miyagawa Coulton

**Hakata Genki Ippai – Solid Tonkotsu in a Hidden Spot** You could easily walk past this discreet restaurant—its entrance shows only a **2019 Michelin sticker** and a menu, with no prominent signage. The **thick pork bone broth** is rich and creamy, perfect for cold weather, though very heavy. According to the chef, you should sip the soup before eating the noodles to appreciate its depth. Some recommend mixing in curry sauce, but I found it overly filling. While the ramen is good, it’s **not a destination bowl**—worth trying if you’re nearby, but not worth a special trip. **Cash only**. **Verdict**: A reliable, rich tonkotsu—visit when in the area, but don’t detour for it.

Oh lord the broth. It's so frothy and rich. It has a creaminess to it which just sticks in your mouth. Pork was fine, a bit tough. The egg was perfect and the extra onions order was incredibly generous. I love thin hakata style noodles, so these were amazing. Highly recommend for some Thicc tonkotsu if you're chasing that. No wait, service was fine, and it was pretty loud due to other customers.

Ramen with Thick broth. Tastes great with a bit of curry sauce also. Often has a long queue so be prepared to wait for 20-40mins before entering

I have eaten an exuberant amount of ramen from all over the world, and I’m not sure why on earth this earned a Michelin star in 2019. It was way too salty and the broth tasted like gravy from KFC. I really wouldn’t recommend trying it, as Fukuoka has so many great options.

Ramen broth is best that I have ever tasted, rich and fragrant. Maybe is because I ordered a large portion, I totally can't finish it, the meat is thick and soft🤤, not oily, lots of spring onion and black fungus. I am very willingly to pay the price cause after you tasted it, it is worth the price. This place is abit hard to find

You won't find this place along any commercial street. In fact, I think this was in a low key residential area that we had to walk to from the main road. If we didn't know the significance of the blue bucket hanging outside, we would not have gone in. This "off the beaten path" restaurant was well worth the visit. Locals filled the place while we were there. Since it was our first time, my fiance and I tried their original, creamy tonkotsu ramen. I was curious about their well known curry ramen as well, but that can be an experience for next time 😁 This was unlike any ramen I've ever tasted - and at a value for money price too! Would definitely recommend 🙂

Cash only! Michelin 2019🌟It is an authentic place with a neighborhood vibe and a simple menu! They offer an English menu. The soup base is very rich, almost like a creamy texture. The noodles are thin but perfectly cooked! The charsiu (pork) is a bit fatty for me, but if you like fatty charsiu, then you will love it.

Maybe it’s good for others. 豚骨ラーメンvery special. But it’s too creamy and salty for us. Besides, everyone has to order one ramen in which the portion is very large.
