We enjoyed our cocktails and food at this casual Japanese in Koreatown. The service was very friendly. Everything we had was delicious. Perhaps a little pricey for the portion size, but I would give it another try.

Fresh beef liver lover rejoice !! The liver sashimi is so fresh it doesnt taste gamey. I like to go with the yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper) instead of the other 2 sauces being served. Other notable dishes to try is the hotpot and everything on the menu ( LOL ). Nothing really disappoint. This is our second time back and we are returning for xmas dinner !!

We ordered a few appetizers and their signature tonton nabe. Let me just say the nabe had little to no flavors (only tasted the spice) with small portion of meat. Would recommend trying out Kimura in St Marks for authentic nabe. Appetizers wise, we ordered the gyu tongue which was way overpriced for $26 and only came in 4-5 pieces. The citrus salmon sashimi had no citrus flavors and the cod roe omelet actually came out cold which was odd. Overall, our experience was pretty underwhelming. Service was okay and ambiance was nice. I appreciate the quality of ingredients but the execution just wasn’t there.

The new Hakata TonTon is different. It is not the old Hakata TonTon, and the taste changed. I preferred the old food better and the cozy vibe of a Japanese restaurant, not another Izakaya Mew or Nonono. The Motsu Nabe that I ordered, which I solely missed, taste was not the same. The soup used to be really clear with a hint of spice, really warms you up in a cold winter's day. This soup the motsu/meat were all small shredded pieces mostly collagen/fat. There used to be slices of meat that is completed replaced with these shredded pieces instead. The cabbage tasted a big grainy, not fresh or crispy. The chili shrimp omelet was okay, quite sweet, and didn't expect the shrimp to be battered/covered. I heard the executive chef was the same so I had high hope, but this feels like just another establishment of the same restaurant group. Wish there is a better Motsu Nabe place in the city. (The one in east village was not bad)

Nice & cozy venue offering modern Japanese flair 👍. The offerings were unique and a delight to the eyes. Tasted just as good as it looks. Very efficient & polite service. The wait staff checked on our table often. I enjoyed the Sashima, need to order bigger portion in the future. Very near excellence 😊

The pig decorations are so cute! I really enjoyed the avocado tofu and the Japanese style hot pot was perfect for a day after drinking. The okonomiyaki is great and I enjoyed their miso cocktail too.

Google
Uni scallops were simple, but also good. Overall, food here is more ingredient focused rather than with a lot of sauce and oil, so it seemed a little less fusion-y. Sesame ice cream was good but a little sweet (but still finished the whole thing of course. Want to try the matcha tofu pudding next time!

Google
Overall, food was tasty, just a tad bit too salty. A few from our group had been coming to Hakata Tonton over the years and they were surprised at the portion size of motsu nabe - Large size seemed pretty small and they said it looks like they decreased the portions. I recommend motsu nabe, fried rice, and citrus salmon.

Yelp
Service: 4.8/5 Food: 3.8/5 So sad it's closed now. Great service- friendly + detailed. They cook your hotpot for you. Cute theme! Pig decor is apparent without being obnoxious or overdone. There's also a photo op area in the front with a pig covered Christmas tree for the holidays + a photo booth machine. Very spacious, I think they balance maximizing tables without it feeling cramped. Bustling, good late night spot. Tip: If you're unsure how much to order, ask your server. What I Ordered: - Tebasaki: crispy, good portion size - Mentai Fried Rice: only okay, expected it to be more flavorful - Tonton Hot Pot: comforting, surprisingly enough for 4 people w/ our other dishes - Champon + Udon Shime Set: made it way better, call out- I love scallions

Yelp
Fantastic Japanese hotpot place in NYC. Amazing service, fantastic beer, and very casual ambiance. - Hotpot: 10/10 (broth was super yummy and rich. Loved the variety of meat cuts in the soup! I only wished though that they added the rice when the soup was thicker-- they added it when there was a lot of soup, so it felt more like a porridge.) - Karaage: 9/10 (yummy but small portion size.) - Suntory draft beer: 100/10 (soo goood!!! I'd come here just for the beer alone.)

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday night looking for a place to eat without a reservation and were seated with no problem! We ordered the Tori Hot Pot, the Mentai Fried Rice, and the Yakiniku Wrap. All three were quite good in their different ways. The hot pot is fairly light in a good way - don't go in expecting a super salty/flavorful broth, but rather a deeper/lighter one. The other two appetizers were quite solid as well - I thought the yakiniku wrap sauce tasted a bit like big mac sauce LOL. Overall, I'd give this place 4.5 stars, but I'll round up because the ambiance of the restaurant is quite nice and the service was also very good.

Yelp
Really chill spot to hangout or grab a meal on your own. Everything was fresh although portions were a little smaller than I anticipated based on the menu pics. Other thing I wished they would relook at is the use of the metal grill net as a platter for the sashimi. Most of my roe fell off my salmon as I grabbed it and it goes right through the net into the ice. Luckily for me I can just lift the net to grab what I can but not the most ideal set-up for getting sashimi. It still tastes and looks wonderful though. The staff was attentive with the right amount of check-ins and I really liked the complimentary hot tea at the end. Bookmarking!

Yelp
The food was fantastic here! The scallops were full of umami. The juicy and tender signature spicy pork leg is the best dish. Almond with tofu and match tasted awesome. The special red tea cheesecake was special. The service was good; nobody rushed us out when we were chatting. The restaurant is clean and well-decorated. They really try to make customers feel comfortable. The bathroom even had headbands!

Yuko S.

Yelp
I have religiously followed chef Koji for quite some time because his food is simply SO good. They change some menus depending on the season so you have a great excuse to go back again! Everyone here is very friendly and very laid back atmosphere. It's getting colder so it's a perfect season to try their famous motsu nabe!

Shirley H.

Yelp
This restaurant is another spot under the Hand hospitality! A reliable spot for some creative Japanese dishes. They offer small tapas dishes and also Japanese hot pot! This time we tried four different tapas. All of them are so good! Fried oyster and salmon sashimi are absolutely delicious! The other dishes we tried are very unique as well. There's a spring roll dish in taco form and a Japanese flavored gnocchi. Very spacious restaurant and clean interior!

Austin K.

Yelp
Overall, I thought it was worth trying but it was a bit pricey for the portion. The Sashimi platter was good but small portions. Citrus salmon was flavorful with lots of roe. I wish I had some sort of rice to soak it all in. I forget what it's called but the squished rectangular sushi rice thing was just okay. Not that flavorful and the texture was too mushy. The yakiniru beef wrap and the grilled Intestines with roe were my 2 favorite. Both had tons of flavor and I wished I ordered more of these. The roe fried rice had crispy rice in the bottom which was a nice touch but don't need to necessarily get this. I haven't tried the pork feet here yet so may get that next time.

Yelp
This has become one of my new favorite restaurants! The pig-themed decor everywhere is so cute! With pig toys at the window sill welcoming you in, pig-snout napkins and menus, and pig-feet trails printed plates added to the charm. Lovely space and efficient service. Ordered the Agedashi Tofu, Yakiniku Wrap, US Wagyu Steak, Small Tonton Hot Pot, Small Shime Rice, and Greentea Tofu. Agedashi Tofu - Decent traditional agedashi tofu that was light and savory. Yakinuku Wrap - My favorite appetizer with nice crispy scallion pancake on the outside and barbecue beef with lettuce and pickled vegetables. US Wagyu Steak - Tasty wagyu was good and savory and went well with the corn Small Tonton Hot Pot - perfect for a cold night out! Really enjoyed the pork feet and broth was good amount of salty and umami. Small Shime Rice - Went nice at the end of the hotpot and reminded me of congee. Greentea Tofu - So good with perfect silky texture and strong almond flavor. The green tea sauce went nicely to lessen the almond flavoring. But wish the almond flavor was a more subtle This place was definitely pricey, but food was yummy and good quality. Overall would love to come back during the cold months

Yelp
Wow what a unique Japanese restaurant. Unlike a typical sushi spot, their dishes are unique and refreshing. They have many options that are appetizer-sized and good for sharing. We ordered: Mentai Gnocchi, Goma Hamachi (amazing sesame sauce), maru maru potato (one of the best!), Yakiniku wrap (also amazing, would order double), garlic tonsoku, kani harumaki (fun, little handheld fusion tacos) & signature shake ramen (cool presentation). The dishes brought so many distinct flavors, you can easily return again to try more dishes. We'd definitely return!

Brian S.

Yelp
A fun place to go with a group. Decor and vibes were really nice, at least on halloween. The staff were very nice and the hot pots are fun to share. Quality of food was nice but definitely a bit pricey - but I always love a good soup and the rice shime at the end was so satisfying. Getting hot tea with our check was also nice!

Gab G.

Yelp
I went to the WV location years ago and did not really like it. This one, which has been resurrected by Hand Hospitality, is much better! Made a reservation for dinner and had a great meal with a friend. We tried: + Motsu hot pot + Sashimi platter + Yakiniku wrap + Mentai gnocchi The best dish was the gnocchi, followed by the yakiniku wrap. Hot pot was also great. Would skip the sashimi next time. I also got the miso cocktail, which was super tasty. Overall, another awesome Hand Hospitality spot!

Rina D.

Yelp
Back here multiple times and they are still so yummy! Highly recommend getting the Yakiniku Wrap. I think it's the best dish here. With hotpot they prepare it for you and so service is 5/5. Love that the bathroom beats the others with a bidet, toothpicks, hair ties, etc! The dessert set is also my fav, but it IS a big portion so do share with your whole table!

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday evening without reservations and surprisingly we were able to get seated immediately even though it seemed like they were kind of busy. Honestly, I thought this place was a ramen/noodle place based on the advertisements outside, but was pleasantly surprised to see a very unique and interesting menu. What stood out to me the most was the motsu hotpot - a dish with dumpling skins, chives, beef intestine, and cabbage. While it sounds kind of boring, it was actually my favorite thing with the soup absorbing all of the delicious and flavorful fat from the beef. I think if I came back, I would just order this with a side of rice and I would be super satisfied.

Tommy H.

Yelp
We made reservations for lunch here since it was recommended by a friend. We decided to order the white motsu hot pot with added ramen noodles for my son. We also ordered the hamachi and the garlic tonsoku. To end the meal, we ordered the dessert set since the wife and I wanted to try all of it. The hot pot was amazing and there was no gamy taste from the intestines whatsoever. The broth was delicious and the small pot was more than enough for two. The hamachi was fresh and the tonsoku was delicious. Everything on the dessert platter was out of this world. We cannot decide on our favorites as all of it were amazing. We will definitely be returning and trying other items but will still order the hot pot and the dessert set again. The service was also fabulous, no complaints at all.

Yelp
Modern Japanese spot best known for their hotpots and izakaya dishes. My bestie & I came for a weeknight dinner & were seated promptly after they opened. Reservations are recommended (especially on the weekends) but walk ins looked doable for a Tuesday night too. It's a rather large space, so there's plenty of seating. Smaller groups would be best though. We decided on the red tonton hotpot (+udon), mentai fried rice, and tonsoku ponzu. The mentai fried rice was definitely my favorite of the night. It's perfectly seasoned, and the portioning between the spicy cod roe and broccoli rabe was spot on. The hotpot was good, and I liked the broth overall (wasn't too spicy, had good flavor). The toppings were plentiful, but some pieces of pig feet were soooo gelatinous that I couldn't finish. I appreciate how they add additional broth before the noodles are added in and cooked, so sip away on the broth! The tonsoku ponzu was perhaps the one that impressed me least. Not that it was bad, but I didn't care too much for the dish overall since the hotpot already had pig feet. The ponzu sauce was also just okay. Service was attentive and fast, and everyone seems friendly.

Yelp
This place looked more aesthetic on the menu, but translated onto the table was disappointing in terms of appearance AND taste. The portions here are TINY. The sashimi was $27 for the tiniest bites (fingernail size) for each piece. The sashimi was not fresh at all, and I regret spending so much for a dish I could barely taste since it was so small. The Hakata TonTon (large) was a good portion, but the veggies cooked down and there was barely any meat. It felt like eating strictly greens in a soup. The soup was flavorful but it tastes similar to a Korean tofu stew for some reason. Nothing to ride home about. We also ordered the fried rice and shake x 2 ramen (not pictured) but both plates were super small that I could finish each in 4 regular sized bites. The taste was average, again nothing I couldn't have made myself. Overall, I spent $50 per person for very mediocre food and small portions.

Steven Z.

Yelp
4.5 stars Ton ton is a clean, modern restaurant with plenty of seating and table space. There are some fun pig-themed decorations scattered around the place. Each of the sides was surprisingly unique! I was expecting to taste one of those situations where the dish tries to be fusion, but loses the flavors by trying to cater to the masses. Definitely not the case for most of these. DISHES - Mentai gnocchi: good level of chewiness, with a refreshing mentaiko flavor profile that's not overwhelming. - Ebi chili: reminiscent of of orange chicken, but replace it with shrimp. - Avocado crunch: fun way to eat avocado! Great starter dish. - Ton ton hotpot: healthy amount of chicken and veggies. It's a little on the salty side, but a large is enough for 3-4 people. The other items on the menu looked really good too. Will want to come back to try more.

Yelp
Came here on Dec 27th for lunch hoping to order off the regular menu. On their website it didn't show that they were having a collab with Yuji Ramen and they had a set menu for $30 per person. All four of us were only given the collab menu so we all had the same thing. It came with Osakana shio ramen- the broth was very mild and clean. I didn't care for the fish on top bec it was a bit fishy to me. I prefer a traditional Tonkatsu ramen so this ramen didn't appeal to me. The koji Mabo tofu was good and pretty damn spicy. It was packed full of flavor. Piri Kara chicken reminded me of the flavors of general tso chicken a bit. It was delicious though- crispy and juicy. We were all just bummed that the website did not indicate they were not serving their regular menu because we were excited to try it. Food and service was good, but just not what we excepted to eat going in.

Yelp
Yums!! I didn't have too high expectations but my friend was raving about it so I had to try this location out. I went to the st marks location a few years back and I was not impressed but this time it was sooo much better! Ton ton hot pot 4/5: very flavorful soup base but also very small portion Ebi mayo 5/5: delicious shrimp mayo - the yuzu hit the spot and has nice crunch from the almonds Yakiniku wrap 4/5: beef was packed with flavors. tasted like a fast food burger in a wrap Okonomiyaki 4/5: this was yums - nothing bad to say about it Mapo tofu 3/5: not flavorful at all and only tasted spice - would not get this again Dessert platter 4/5: - Kocha cheese cake 4/5- earl grey baked cheesecake: love me anything earl grey - matcha ice cream 5/5- so sooooo good if you're a matcha fan, the depth of matcha was intense and rich - double berry ice cream 4.5/5- literally taste like strawberry shortcake - greentea tofu 3/5- am not a fan of almond tofu but you might like it! - roasted goma ice cream 4/5- delicious sesame ice cream - loved the sesame cracker that comes with it - nama pudding 3.5/5 - a lil too sweet for my liking Overall lovely exp and will come back to try the other dishes

Yelp
I can't speak for the yum cha set and the hotpot, but it looked really great! Seems like it's good for large groups and for those set meals. However, I found this by walking in and looking for a ramen spot. Unfortunately the only ramen on the menu is cold. Instead my friends and I shared some tea and gyoza, and a friend got the katsu sandwich. All of the ala carte options are small bites, emphasize on small. The gyoza is served on a sizzling stone platter, yet one of the gyoza was still raw inside. This was after letting it sit for more than 7 minutes too. The teas on the beverage menu only come cold, is what my server said. When asking for hot teas, it was strange that the server didn't offer me other options, until my boyfriend asked if he could order one of the hot tea options under the yum cha menu. So head's up - if you want some hot tea that come in a teapot, the options are found under the yum cha menu. They are priced at $10 and it's good to share between 2-3 people. Overall it was a cute place with plenty of pig motifs. But the service and the food we ordered missed the mark for me.

Arielle C.

Yelp
You should RESERVE before coming here! To guarantee your dining experience. It's extremely hard to get seating, especially on weekends if you try to walk in. I came here with a friend and we didn't have to wait for our reservation. The place was clean and it was almost full despite coming at 2pm. It was pretty loud from all the talking, but we were more focused on the food. We ordered the Yum Cha set for two, and some rice tea. Everything was absolutely delicious. I wanted to choose my favorite or top 3 dishes, but I cannot compare. They all had their unique flavors that completed the whole meal. This set comes with a set of two for everything, so there's no worry when it comes to sharing. The amount of food is not a whole lot, but we left satisfied and left to get dessert. I would definitely come back here again. It's a bit pricey but the quality of the food and flavors make it a worth while treat!

Melody C.

Yelp
I was intrigued by their yum cha set so I made a reservation for a Saturday. Their food presentation was out of this world, but I was not too impressed with what was included in the set and didn't think it was worth the price. It came within a couple of minutes of us ordering it, so I think it was already premade as well. Yum Cha Set: $75 for 11 different types of dishes. Some of them were doubled so it was a total of 18 plates in the set. You can also choose from three tea options - green tea, roasted green tea, and roasted brown rice with green tea. The latter provided great comfort on a rainy day, and I appreciated the free refills. DISH 1. Sui Gyoza x2 4/5 Small bowls each containing about half a cup of dumpling soup. It was one of the better dishes in this set. The soup was served warm and very refreshing. DISH 2. Roast Beef x2 I didn't try it because it was not fully cooked. I thought it was weird how they didn't declare that it was raw anywhere on the menu, especially since dim sum dishes are typically fully cooked, or ask how I would like to have the meat. DISH 3. Eel Canape x2 3/5 A piece of eel with a bit of sauce sitting on top of a piece of bread. Didn't look that nice and maybe scorched rice would be a better option than bread. DISH 4. Mental Omelette x2 2/5 Each plate came with two pieces of rolled-up omelettes stuffed with mentai. Lackluster. DISH 5. Ebi Mayo x2 5/5 Probably the best one out of everything. I love shrimp (ebi) mayo, especially when it's cooked Cantonese-style and served with walnuts. I like how instead of walnuts, they added almond flakes to it, which gave that nice crunchy texture. DISH 6. Goma Hamachi x2 Didn't eat this since it was raw yellowtail. Came with two small cubes on each plate. DISH 7. Kara Age x2 4/5 The fried chicken was good and sizeable. It came with a small piece of lemon. DISH 8. Bloomed Tomato x2 0/5 This was literally a small wedge of tomato served on the plate with some veggies as garnish. If they think I'd want to pay $75 to receive two plates of tomatoes, they really gotta be kidding me. DISH 9. Kani Harumaki x1 5/5 You can never go wrong with Japanese spring rolls. This had an interesting twist in that it was not rolled up but more like a crispy sandwich. the filling had some (imitation?) crab meat and it was yum. DISH 10. Kakuni Buns x2 4/5 The kakuni (braised pork belly) was thicc. DISH 11. Pink Lady Roll x 1 Didn't try this since it was also raw. Came with four pieces. My friend said it was mid. The set is more suitable for 2 people than 3 people because there are not enough pieces to go around for some of the dishes. But if it's for three small eaters, it can still work. For $75, you can enjoy something that's even better tasting but go for it if you don't care about the taste and just want to experience it. My husband ordered the "shake x2 ramen" because he wasn't too interested in the yum cha set, which I shared with a friend. The ramen and toppings were layered in a glass canister. The worker carried the canister and an empty bowl to our table. He shook the canister in front of us, mixing together the ramen, toppings, and sauce. Once he was satisfied with the shaking, he poured the contents out into the bowl. It was kind of funny to me how the whole ordeal felt sooo extra. I didn't think I would like this dish because I prefer hot ramen over chilled ramen and I'm not very into sesame sauce. But I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor!

Kristy C.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised to see Hakata Tonton in midtown! This new space provides the best environment for catching up with friends or a date. Service was impeccable, our server was kind and attentive. Food was amazing, be warned the small hotpot could serve 4 people honestly. We left the restaurant super stuffed but waiting to return to try the other dishes. Highly recommend if you are hungry in the area :)

Mengxue C.

Yelp
We're patrons since the original restaurant. It was sooo yum and I was craving for it for a while until I realized it was relocated to this spot. I believe the taste is a bit different. Todays mine second time and I noticed that it is a lot more saltier than last time. Everything was good but I just cannot stop drinking beverages. We also got Yuzu drink, it was really good too. Ambience: 3 stars Service: 4 stars Food: 3-4 stars (due to saltiness)

Marc F.

Yelp
Was walking around KTown-adjacent area, hoping my stomach would lead me to a delicious lunch. I lucked out that Hakata Tonton was open for lunch that day and were offering a special collaboration with a ramen shop - a $30/person set meal with shio ramen, mapo tofu, karaage, and various pickles. Couldn't turn this down and with a Suntory highball? Don't tempt me with a good time. Everything about this meal was perfect, from the delicate shio broth, to the spicy tofu, and the crunchy chicken. I really hope this collaboration comes back in some form. Would be interested to visit again for dinner and the main menu.

Ryna D.

Yelp
Picked this spot out of convenience but it turned out to be an excellent meal! Everything we ordered was fantastic and the cocktails and desserts were also very good!

Jef B.

Yelp
A bit disappointed with the food here. Came for lunch and ordered the Ton ton soup and the yum cha. With all the great food around the area, I would skip this and go somewhere else. Honestly though, shame on me for ordering yum cha at a Japanese restaurant.

Lin C.

Yelp
Food was really tasty but agreed with other reviews that it was very expensive for the small portion sizes. Would come back if it was 25% less money or 25% more food.

Wendy W.

Yelp
A new favorite in k-town! I've been here twice and love it for the expansive menu - you can go the hot-pot route or sample a bunch of different dishes or do a bit of both :) Some dishes I liked a ton: - Tonton Hot Pot (with red sauce): I was shocked at how flavorful this base was! It complements the tender melt-in-your-mouth pork feet and other toppings quite well - Yakinuku Wrap: so yummy but beware that it's a messy eat haha

Karen Y.

Yelp
Love the chill vibe! Reminds me of Shinjuku or Asakusa, where bunch of small shops for friends to gather, & drink, eat & be merry! Had dinner w gfs, got a few small plates to share and then opted for the small hot pot... luckily we did, bc we were so full! Service was amazing, staff were helpful and welcoming. Our server took care of cooking the hotpot and dishing it out to us. We selected rice to soak up the yummy rich broth! Mmm... So, the hot pot was not my absolute "must-get"... the chicken wasn't very flavorful... the pork knuckles were a bit too chewy, needs to be cooked a bit more so we can enjoy the collagen... hehe BUT the dumplings... yum! We got extra too! A bit skimpy with only 4... so worth it tho. My fav was actually the scallop w/ uni and the Inari with foie gras; delicious! We also enjoyed the sesame dessert A LOT! Will definitely come back to try other goodies. #eatwelltraveloften

Yelp
Came here on a Thurs for dinner with a friend and it was busy! Luckily we had a reservation. The venue is medium sized and can accomadate a good number of tables. I would suggest getting the Yakiniku wrap. I think that was my favorite dish of the night. It was made well with tender meat and balance of flavors. Remember to remove the paper wrapping around it. On the other hand, some of the other dishes were a bit overpowering in salt like the salad and made it difficult to eat. The pigs feet is a popular dish here as well that I would suggest if you're open to it. Overall, the experience was good with a staff that was friendly, but wished the food was more consistent.

Yelp
Arrived on a Saturday 7:30 pm. Reservation made but saw empty table available for walk ins. Street was busy with traffic. Found parking about 7 blocks away. Food was decent. Seating was comfortable. Service was superb. Price is city price. Bathroom was clean and offered free Q-tips, pads, hair tie, mouth rinse etc. Very thoughtful. We had a few appetizers and tonton hot pot. Definitely recommend the beef roll and the greens ( Brussel sprouts and shiitake pepper). Very flavorful.

Yelp
We went there on a Friday night for dinner with a reservation. It's not crowded and I didn't see anyone waiting, probably because it's located a few blocks away from Ktown. We ordered bloomed tomato, kani harumaki, sashimi platter, gyu tongue, and kaisen okonomiyaki. My favorite dish was kani harumaki - it's blend of snow crab, pork, mushroom and vegetables, served with spring roll skin. It's creative and tasty, and I also like the presentation. The bloomed tomato was interesting too - it's pickled tomato with sliced vegetables inside. It looks simple but I've never had anything like that before. The service was good.

Yelp
Ambiance of the restaurant is very clean and minimal and feels very clean. The service is friendly (no one rushed you out). The food here is good and for a party of 4 we left feeling stuffed. We got the large ton ton hotpot, the mapo tofu, the scallop uni skewers, 3 other appetizers, and the multi-dessert selections the cocktails were refreshing as well, especially the strawberry one. The restaurant came out with a single sparkler to celebrate the birthday boy so that was a nice surprise.

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for Japanese food for dinner and stumbled upon this place. The decor of this place looked cool. It was simple and very modern. We ordered a plethora of dishes. Roast beef- This dish was okay. The roast beef was tender but the flavor wasn't screaming at me. Mentai Gnocchi- Solid. It tasted as if the gnocchi was dusted with Cheeto dust. Subtlety chewy and texture was A+. Goma Hamachi- My favorite dish of the night. Sweet, fresh, and accompanied with the sauce it was oh so flavorful. Umami bursts were everywhere. Beef Tongue- Very chewy, but tender overall, comes with a ginger scallion sauce similar to the one you'd usually have with Hainan chicken. Creamy Avo Tofu- Indeed very creamy, avocado puree/sauce at the base, a wasabi-like sauce at the top, decent if you like tofu in a mushy form Mentai fried rice- My second favorite thing here. The roe in this rice were like little umami bubbles and each spoonful it would burst onto my tastebuds. I could probably eat 2 to 3 bowls of this. At the bottom is scorched crispy rice as well.

Yelp
I went here with the sole purpose of trying their yum cha set, which is $75 for 2 people. I saw from social media that this is only offered during the lunchtime on the weekends (12:00pm-2:15pm) and they recommend making reservations. By the time I made the spontaneous decision to eat here, the only reservation left on Google was 2:00pm. Barely made the cutoff! But this particular Saturday, it wasn't too busy. The yum cha set was perfect for 2 people. I think if we were both starving, we might've had room for dessert, which they also have a dessert platter. I can't remember the price. It was a lot of fun to eat as you marvel at each small dish and eat it. It's definitely an Instagram worthy experience. They have a lot of other dishes that sound delicious. They have tabletop inductions that allow you to have soup dishes, hot and bubbling in front of you. And, I saw that the servers were on top of serving these soups to the customers. I would definitely go back for the yum cha set again. And, if I do go again, I'm definitely getting dessert because all their desserts look so good. Bathroom Tip: -This is weird, but hear me out, their bathroom is pretty great. Their toilets are bidets and heated. They have hair ties, q-tips, mouthwash with little cups for it, floss, and pads. And, everything is sealed so no contamination. (I will spare you the toilet picture)

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! Shake shake noodles (aka cold sesame noodle) is tasty and balanced. Beef wrap was good and not dry. Chicken karaage was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The pork skewers had good flavor, but was definitely on the fattier side as you'd expect of pork belly. Wish it was a little but crispier in texture. And make sure you leave room for the dessert platter! Everything was really good, and my personal favorite is the pudding/ flan. Yum!

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday with a 7PM resy. Cute ambiance and got seated quite quickly. Ordered: - TonTon HotPot (Red): Red represents the spicy version which had a bit of a kick. As someone who has reletively lower spice tolerance, I was able to enjoy the flavors of this dish - Yakiniku Wrap: Very delicious, would recommend - great flavors, I like how they incorporated some mayo - Black Sesame Ice Cream: Ice cream was a bit hard as if it was sitting in the freezer for a while but was good with the cracker

Yelp
Different type of hot pot. Great food, great taste! Have been here 3times already. It's my go to place.

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a weekday night and overall liked the vibes as soon as we walked in. It was packed even on a weekday but in a good way -- the atmosphere was buzzing and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I had the opportunity to try a few items from the extensive menu including the citrus salmon, karage, kakuni buns, okonomiyaki, shake ramen, and the roasted sesame ice cream. The citrus salmon was a great way to start the meal. The salmon itself was super fresh and I loved the lemon dressing which had just the right amount of acid. The karage was quite generously portioned for the relatively cheap price. It was perfectly fried with an addictive slightly spicy dipping sauce. The sweet braised pork featured in the buns was also very well done. The okonomiyaki was one of the better ones I have had in the city and featured squid, shrimp, and cheese. The cheese made me hesitant to order this at first but it was not overwhelming and surprisingly worked. The shake ramen is a cold dish with a sesame dressing which was also quite refreshing. I wanted to try all of the desserts but we were so full at the time that I only had the opportunity to try the roasted sesame ice cream which was just delicious. Overall, I was impressed with this restaurant and will definitely be back in the future to try more delicious Japanese food! Service was friendly and efficient. Also, worth checking out their bathrooms.

Yelp
Really enjoyed dinner here! It's a very calm vibe and the servers are friendly. Appreciated that the music was at a low volume so we could actually have a conversation. The menu has a ton of really creative Korean fusion dishes. We had the shoju cocktails (strawberry and kiwi) which were nice and light. The highlight was the gnocchi with spicy cod roe sauce - such an unexpected mix of flavors but it was delicious! We also had the hamachi - great fish and miso sauce. Then we had the shishito peppers and Brussels sprouts and miso cod - also both quite good.

Yelp
Lovely place for dinner and drinks! The ambiance and service here made our dinner a memorable one. I loved the aesthetics of the restaurant and how everything had a functional style with a flair. Their menu had pictures of all the dishes so you're properly salivating as you get ready to order. Most of it was small plates/ bar bites, but I appreciated the variety of noodles, rice dishes, sashimi, and meat appetizers. We ordered their Spicy miso tonkotsu ton ton, Tonsoku Ponzu, and Goma Hamachi. The Goma Hamachi was amazing! The chunks of baby yellowtail were so silky and buttery that it mimicked the feeling of eating a fatty steak. The Tonsoku's citrus flavor was a great pairing to the fatty pig feet and collagen rich meat. The TonTon had a very flavorful broth and a ton of spring onions and chive. I enjoyed it, but found myself longing for more meat. We were surprised when we were offered complimentary mugs of tea to wrap up our meal. Of course, we had to order the Earl Grey cheesecake to compliment it. It was amazing. It was so creamy, indulgent, and light, that each smidge came off like a chunk of butter. There is just enough Earl Grey and citrus overtone to let you appreciate the flavor without being dominant or overpowering. Throughout the meal, the staff stopped by frequently to help us mix our food and clear our table. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. I also loved the cleanliness of the battery and the complimentary toiletries. A great spot for a comforting, delicious meal!

Yelp
Another great spot by Hand Hospitality! I've come a few times with friends and it's pretty easy to get a res here vs some of the other Hand Hospitality spots in the area. They have a wide range of options, from veal liver sashimi, to simple noodles to fun yakiniku wraps. My favorites are the noodles (the shaking noodles and also the koh men) along with the yakiniku wrap! All are so flavorful and really showcase the abilities of the chef as they are so different but absolutely amazing. I did not like the citrus salmon or sushi. Citrus salmon was way too sour and not exciting at all. Sushi was so small and not particularly good. There are so many other great options at this place, so I'd try anything else besides those two! The place is pretty big and servers are attentive, refilling drinks and coming quickly whenever we wanted to order. I've never had to sit too close to others, so you can always have a nice conversation without being interrupted. Overall a nice ambience!

Yelp
Great easy spot for a quick lunch over the long weekend (especially when cho dang gol is packed). The lunch menu was a bit sparse (I remember the dinner menu and hot pot menu being really comprehensive) but the rice dish was appropriately spicy and the noodles were fresh and filling!

Yelp
Came for brunch to get the lunch set. For $75, you're mostly paying for the display because it's not very much food but I wasn't too upset about it because I wasn't so hungry. Each item was quality and tasty but some of it was cold or lukewarm. This especially affected the katsu sando in the bao bun, because the bao was not as soft as it would have been warm and the katsu inside was also a little tough. The taco was interesting, crunchy and fresh, the karaage was great, and the eel, and the tomato was very sweet and delicious. Rolled egg omelette was also lukewarm. Good amount of fish in the kaisen don. Not sure if maybe the items in the set were supposed to be more room temperature other than of course the kaisen don, sashimi pieces, and tomato salad. But I would have enjoyed the other pieces warmer. Came also with hot green tea which was delicious and free refills, and an appetizer cilantro soup with cilantro dumpling which was one of my favorite parts. The broth was so clean and heartwarming. I would come another time to try the rest of the food. Other reviews for the full meals look good and highly rated so maybe just the Yum Cha selling point is the beautiful display (beautiful restaurant too).

Yelp
Yesterday I stopped off at Hakata Tonton for dinner, I got the Gnocchi, Citrus Salmon, Tonton hotpot. Gnocchi: It was only ok, super chewy to the point of almost gummy, the combo of that with a fishy taste was just odd. Not that crazy about it. Citrus Salmon: Not bad, very strong citrus flavor. Tonton Hotpot: Reminded me alot of a Korean dish named Budae Jjigae. It was ok, the broth was nice and spicy, had lots of cabbage. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. It was just ok. Overall: The food was only ok, the service was pretty good. Will I go back again? Probably not, there's better nearby.
