The 16 Best Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco

"Often described as a kind of soulful cousin to Cantonese food, the cuisine of China’s migratory Hakka people abounds with pickled vegetables and slow-cooked meats. This homey Outer Richmond restaurant is one of the few places in San Francisco to get hooked on its rustic, comforting flavors. Must-order dishes include salt-baked chicken, clams stir-fried with basil, and braised pork belly with shrimp paste — all of which come in family-style portions, so be sure to come hungry or with a group." - Lena Park, Eater Staff

The 23 Best Chinese Restaurants In San Francisco

"This is a rare San Francisco restaurant specializing in Hakka food, and the family-style portions the Outer Richmond spot is rolling out are the equivalent of a snug sweater. There are basil-heavy clams in a slightly thickened sauce, and simple but downright satisfying wonton soup in clear broth. Nothing says “I don’t want to share this huge pile of incredible meat” like the sliced pork belly slabs served over fermented greens. We also love Hakka for its large banquet tables and quick service, making it the answer to chill weeknight meals with a group. " - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Super regional chinese food, huge delicious portions (we like the pumpkin with egg yolk appetizer a lot). We usually take it to go and eat at the beach or park.

Google
It’s nice little spot in the outer Richmond for some Chinese/hakka food. Greatly suited for small and large parties sharing family style. The food here reminded me of childhood meals i would have with my family. I got the stirred noddles which had a lot of wok hay in the dish aka, it was wok fried to perfection. We also got the fried tofu and fish fillet casserole which is always a main stable. I love the mushrooms inside. However I did find it a bit salt. Overall, I love this place and would love to come back.

Google
I walked by this restaurant a few times before and never thought to try it until I learned that my BIL’s sister drives from Castro Valley to eat here. It must be that good, so I finally gave it a try. Everything I ordered was delicious and flavorful, especially the Pork Belly with Shrimp Paste, Pan Fried Tofu, and Half Steamed Chicken. The restaurant is clean and has a lot of photos to help with ordering. I would definitely go back to try the Roasted Squab, which I didn't get to order because you have to call in and request an hour in advance.

Google
Food is delicious, literally love everything we get there. The noodle/ chow mein has a very interesting texture, almost like pan fried noodle, which was a very pleasant surprise. Pork belly and stuffed chicken were definitely the highlight of the meal when I visited

Google
Very good Chicken with sticky rice, something different that can’t be found at most restaurant. The chicken very crispy!! Great tofu and salted egg pumpkin, Steamed pork belly is (above) OK - NOT that WOW but good to order Fast service, 1 waiter but very efficient and friendly service. Would definitely come to eat here if we go to SF again. Nice neighborhood (residential area). Street parking (free) but need to go around to find a spot

Google
Love this place. Accidentally discovered it when I was getting lost around the Golden Gate Bridge and love it. It’s a hidden gem. You can tell it’s family run and they are delightful and attentive. But be careful, there is a similar restaurant nearby, but this one isn’t nearly as packed which is a shame as they have superior food. My order is always the same, potstickers and vermicelli. Wish I lived in the city so I could get it Doordashed or delivered. A majority of the menu is in Mandarin and with very little English, but trust me it is so delicious that you will over look that. Parking is limited. Sometimes I have to walk several blocks to park, but again, it’s worth it.

Google
Food was good with great portion sizes for the money. A lot of food combinations that I’ve never heard of/had before. I’m guessing the chief(s), family, etc may be from Fujian Province, China? Authentic Southern Chinese cuisine. The Bitter Mellon with Catfish is one of the few items I’m familiar with…the other picture is of the Tofu/Pork soup which was also very good. Definitely will be back. Hakka Pride! 😏🙌🏽😉

Google
That good stufffff. This is a good Chinese restaurant if you're in Richmond. It's close to the beach too so you can maybe walk there or just a short drive over. Wasn't very busy on a Saturday 6pm. Food is all really yummy and doesn't take a long time. The serving sizes are pretty big. Definitely good place to share and enjoy family style authentic Chinese food. My parents approve this message. Enjoy!

Yelp
It's a family run restaurant in a quiet neighborhood in outer Richmond district of SF. Service is friendly especially if you speak the local language, Cantonese. 4* Decor is old 1980s 90s style American Chinese restaurant if you remember that era. 3* The Hakka cuisine is rarely found in SF Bay Area. These are Hakka cuisine specialties: preserved vegetables with bacon pork (mui Choy cou yuk 梅菜扣肉) 4.5* ; stuffed fried tofu (煎釀豆腐) 4*; rock salt chicken (鹽焗雞)4.5* ; other Cantonese cuisine dishes: pea sprout 4* ; fried stuff chicken with sticky rice 4.5 * Prices are very reasonable! 5* A must visit if you like Chinese Hakka Cuisine.

Yelp
This has been my go-to spot for family gatherings, and it never disappoints. I could eat comforting Chinese food any day, and this place nails it every time. During my visits, I had the chance to try several of their dishes, and every single one was outstanding and no complaints at all. My personal favorites were the creamy salted egg pumpkin, the corn purée draped over perfectly fried fish, and the honey walnut shrimp. Each dish was beautifully prepared and packed with flavor, making it hard to pick a true standout. If you're looking for a place that delivers consistently delicious Chinese comfort food, this is it. I can't wait for my next visit!

Yelp
Servers were kind and had smiles on their faces! Felt welcomed. Food came in hot and fresh and well seasoned. Definitely authentic. Perfect for family gatherings and get together.

Yelp
My go to for Chinese food take out and there's a dine in option. Our family loves their soft tofu & beef, honey walnut prawns, chicken & green beans, pea sprouts, & clams (must order their clams)! They have great soups and noodle dishes too. Parking in the area is hit or miss and mostly residential. I'm usually there for take out and I call in my order.

Yelp
It's great place to go with group of family or friends. The staffs are very friendly and they gave honest recommendations and foods are tasty. Especially their sticky chicken is a must try ! Parking is ok. You might need to spent 5-10 mins.m which is reasonable in SF.

Yelp
Hakka has the best Chinese food in the Outer Richmond! We absolutely love this place, so much so that we chose to have a birthday party here in the upstairs soon. Victor and his family were so gracious with their hospitality during the event and our guests loved every single dish we ordered! highly recommend for those looking for a delicous dining experience in the Outer Richmond.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've eaten here and have forgotten about it until a recent invitation--it's out of the way in the Outer Richmond--off the beaten path. My recent visit was specifically to eat frog. I heard a rumor that San Francisco may ban the sale of frog and so I made it a point to come here and order a frog dish. We ordered the bitter melon frog and I was not disappointed. The bitter melon was perfect in the bitterness and the frog was sweet...the whole frog, not just the legs--the overall flavor of the dish was very balanced. We also ordered the mustard green and garlic stir and fried tofu clay pot. A the mustard green was tender and the tofu was also tasty. I came for lunch and it wasn't very crowded--got a neighborhood vibe. Service was good. Overall delicious food. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
This restaurant served some very special entrees i have not seen @ others. 2 of us came on a Sunday noon, not difficult finding a street parkings. Restaurant was pretty good in size, we picked a nice corner seats. The Services were detailed and very friendly, 2 of us over ordered so we can try here also bring home to enjoy later. We ordered: *Chinese Bacon w/Preserved Green $19.95 *Stuffed Chicken w/Sticky Rice (adv Order)$59 *Tai Shan Style Braised Duck(half) $28.95 *Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf $18.95 *Salt & Baked chicken (half)$19.95 All yummy good, yes I 100% recommended this Hakka restaurant.

Yelp
Had the economy lunch special on their lunch menu. You need to ask for that menu as it also includes the rice plates. 3 dishes for about $38. I liked the Peking spareribs and the Braised Tofu with fish fillet. I'd skip the steamed minced pork dish. Portions were large. Service was ok. Will be back to try other lunch plate dishes.

Yelp
Great restaurant for large parties and family style! I've been here a handful of times and food has always been good and service has always been A1. Came here for an early birthday dinner this time on a Friday night and our party had a wonderful time. Our party of 7 ordered the following to share. -Steamed Alaska Giant Clam Garlic -Stuffed Chicken with Sticky Rice -Roasted Squab -Pork Stomach with XO Sauce -Honey Walnut Prawns -House Special Pan Fried Tofu The Steamed Giant Clam texture was a bit off this time around but haven't had issues in the past. Everything else was good. Check this local restaurant out if you plan to have Chinese family style. It's nothing but good vibes here.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Terrible taste- the fish fillet with tofu in clay pot was good, mustard greens were edible, rice in lotus wrap was edible but rest of the dishes did not taste good. The rib/chicken soup was doused with white pepper couldn't taste anything else, pea sprouts had no taste, sand chicken, would all not eat again. Ambiance was typical Chinese restaurant though sitting by door results in a draft. Bathrooms were very decently clean. Would not come back for food.
google avatar

Yelp
It is quiet and you can have a peaceful dinner. The pan-fried noodle was great. Crispy noodle. Bok choy was even crunchy. The clay pot tofu with fish and mushroom was nice and full of tofu Yummy. The egg and corn soup came out super fast. Got the garlic egg plant. It had sour mustard veggie, which is unusual and different. We got complimentary tea.
google avatar

Allyson L.

Yelp
Food is so good. Prices are reasonable as well. Came in for a belated new years dinner and ordered a lot. We had a lot to take home too. Service was not too bad. It's the classic Chinese restaurant ambiance. The garlic pea shoots, the shrimp dishes, and everything was just yummy. You have to order the sticky rice ahead of time though! That was really good and I love sticky rice. I'd definitely come back.

Veronica L.

Yelp
The food is sooo delicious and plentiful. Perfect portions! We were a party of 20 and the staff was so amazing! Excellent service! We are definitely coming back again! The atmosphere is wonderful, clean, not loud: perfect! We ordered 9 courses and each one was delicious! Victor, Jason and their mom Lee are super accommodating! We'll be back!!!
google avatar

Cathrin P C.

Yelp
No frills typical Cantonese food, although technically this is supposed to be from the Hakka region... It helps to speak some Cantonese so you can communicate and get better service. The menu has lots of pictures. $18.95 Frog Fried with Salted Yolk $14.95 Pan Fried Seafood Noodle $14.95 Spicy Salt Pepper Spare Ribs $15.95 Seafood Tofu in Clay Pot Total price $70.60 Honestly the food was mediocre and maybe this is what burger and fries would be for some people who just want their creature comforts. I would skip the claypot and panfried noodles. I've definitely had much better elsewhere. The best dish was spicy salt pepper spareribs. Salted yolk was tasty but oiler than other places. I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
If you love authentic Cantonese cuisine, this is the place to go. The oysters and clams were excellent. The fried pumpkin and fried pork ribs were both extremely delicious. The service was fast and friendly. Tables for large or small groups and a comfortable dining experience. Very reasonable prices on all the dishes.

Yelp
Good traditional dishes that are unique! The waiters and boss lady were very nice, polite, and handled my interchanging between Cantonese and English well! Pro tip: they take credit card!

Yelp
I have never been disappointed by any dish here. Stand outs are the mixed mushroom and fungus, salt and pepper short ribs, green beans in xo sauce, chinese bacon and preserved greens Casual, family style restaurant Quick service, with very friendly servers. Im always happy after eating here
google avatar

Yelp
I feel like a rainy day brings out the most visceral of appetites in us. The braised beef and turnips were so hearty and immediately warmed up my body from head to toe (it was still quite chilly in the restaurant) and I could envision myself in a past life perhaps in some rural countryside enjoying this dish. The chow fun was solid in both flavor as well as bouncy noodle texture. The portions were also huge and reasonably priced! Definitely worth making the trek to Outer Richmond.

Yelp
Rare to find Hakka food and found this hidden gem. My family and I come here for dinner every now and then since it's a bit of a drive. The food is flavorful and affordable. Sweet & Sour Short Ribs - best sweet and sour short ribs I've had. Although it's coated in sauce, it's still very crispy. Clams with Spicy Salt and Black Bean Sauce - it's my first time eating clams prepared this way. Although it was fried, the clams were still juicy and flavorful. Pork Stomach & Chicken with Pepper - very tender and juicy. It had a nice kick. House special vermicelli - very flavorful. Pork was tender. A solid vermicelli dish. Roasted squab (you have to call to preorder) - flavored well but the inside was a bit cold. The skin was also not crispy. This was the only dish we did not like.

Yelp
Hakka does not have outdoor seating , but it does have a comfortably sized dinning room. Regarding parking it's a mostly residential area so finding a space is not horrible. I had been wanting to try Hakka for ages, and finally visited them for some take out at midday Saturday with my order being the House Pan Fried Tofu, and the Pumpkin Strips w Salted Egg, plus a side of Rice. The restaurant forgot to pack the Rice so I had to drive back. It was easy for me to be gracious about the mistake because it was only a short drive, but I might have been more annoyed if I lived further away. As for the food, I liked the Pan Fried Tofu, but wish that instead of the meat mixture in the center of each piece, that it had an option to be replaced with a prawn mix to help cut down on the sodium. The restaurant also vented the box containing the Pumpkin strips which were good, but in retrospect I should have ordered a Mu Shu instead. Overall a positive experience, and I will come back to try some of their other dishes, and probably some of the Lunch Specials.

Yelp
Got takeout through Doordash and I couldn't be happier. I was scared that by the time the salted egg yolk kabocha got home it would be soggy but that was not the case at all. They cut a little opening in the takeout container so that steam can escape. They were so crispy, soft, and flavorful. Really addicting stuff. Also paired great with the dry beef chow fun. The noodles were perfectly chewy and it was just loaded with beef. Some of the best chow fun you can find in the city. Curious to try more dishes, but cannot turn away from the chow fun and salted egg yolk kabocha.

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem. Tucked away in a typical Richmond neighborhood is this word-of-mouth Chinese restaurant in SF. With its old-school florescent yellow and red sign and photos of "point-to" dishes plastered all over the walls is an amazing little place called Hakka. It was my first time here, and every dish was a winner - I would order each one again without question. Did the inflation cloud completely miss this place?? How does a party of 6 order multiple quality dishes and all walk away satisfied for under 200 bucks? Tip: Order the stuffed chicken first when you walk in the door, then view the menu because the chicken can take up to 30 min to prepare. I had never had Hakka food before, but this meal seems to have been a good representation. I will repeat. BB

Yelp
Love this restaurant, the portion sizes are incredible and the food is delicious. J2. Spicy Salt & Pepper Eggplant with Bean Curd These are deep fried and battered tofu and eggplant pieces. It's pretty delicious but probably tastes a lot better at the restaurant than as takeout, since it becomes a bit less crunchy in transit. But it's still good and you can perk them up in a toaster oven a bit. K2. Mu Shu Chicken Comes with a few pancakes and hoisin sauce. Delicious, would order again! Pretty standard Mu Shu. I4. Spicy Seafood & Tofu in Clay Pot It's pretty good but I prefer the more soy sauce-y base of the Fish & Tofu Clay Pot S11. House Special Stir Fried Mixed Pretty interesting dish, seems to have a bit of everything. Lotus root, sausage, pieces of beef, veggies, tiny octopus, squid? Pretty good, feels authentic. J11. Sautéed String Beans Tasty! They have another type of string bean costs an extra $1 and has XO sauce. I think both.

Yelp
We got to restaurant. The place was tight. Hardly can walk in between tables. In fact, the waiters and waitress had a hard time being out dishes to us because they can't walk in between all the tables and chairs. Watch out when you order Rice!!! We asked how much was a bowl of rice. The waiter said "since your ordered all these dishes, the rice is free. No cost". So we just asked for one bowl of rice. Eat the food which was subpar. Weird taste. Whatever. Chinese food at a not so nice Chinese restaurant. Bill comes and there was a charge for that one small bowl of rice. $2.50. We waited for the waiter that said it was free. He came back and we asked. He took the bill to the back and came back out and said. "I'm sorry, it's $2.50 for a bowl of rice. My bad!" Seriously? You said it was free, that's why we asked for only one bowl. If there was a charge, we wouldn't have asked for the rice. And how can you said it's "my bad" and still have the nerve to charge us. Clearly you don't care about "your bad". I'm leaving this ONE star review.... "My bad"

Yelp
We order via Ubereat this time, so we don't know if the ambiance changed. The past few times we went in person, the staff are nice and the restaurant is fairly clean. -House Special Pan Fried Tofu: 5/5 this is our go to order, the tofu is soft and taste delicious with the shrimp paste and house sauce -Mongolian Beef: 2/5 this is the first time trying this, the sauce is sweet and doesn't really match with the beef. -Clams Spicy Salt and Black Bean Sauce: 5/5 Another one of our go to orders. The meat and black bean (it's not a sauce, it's more like black bean and chili fried with meat) is a perfect match with rice and we always eat an extra bowl!
google avatar

Lorena T.

Yelp
Delicious early dinner tonite! Everything was fresh. Had the tofu, sticky rice with Chinese sausage wrapped in lotus leaves, fried pork and string beans, gai lan (Chinese broccoli), bitter melon and catfish cooked in black bean sauce. One of our favorite restaurants to hangout for dinner.

Susan A.

Yelp
We went to Hakka Restaurant. We should have just left given how dirty, dingy, empty, and depressive the place was and having the menu literally thrown at us. There was no heat especially for a cold rainy day. But we still gave it the benefit of doubt. We did not ask how much a dish of snow pea shoots would cost. Once the tab came, we were stunned to learn it was $26. This is same price as for a dish of seafood. The other order was half a chicken with ginger and cilantro. The serving size was so small. The serving size of this dish was more substantial and delicious at Ton Kiang (now retired after over 25 years), and the chicken was very lacking in cooking, appearance, and taste. Overall, the dining experience was terrible, never to return again. Based on this experience, their website showing images of their other dishes has a high possibility of not matching what you will get in reality in terms of appearance and taste.

Nick C.

Yelp
You go there for the food, not the service or ambience. Great food! Hakka specialties are braised pork belly with fermented greens, Maggi prawns, deep fried tofu.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Service: 3.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Overall: 4/5 Dishes Ordered: -Honey Walnut Shrimp: so crispy and flavorful, one of the best I've ever had. Broccoli garnish was very very salty though -Golden Double Egg Fried Rice: good but lacks a little bit of flavor -Eggplant with Basil: not much flavor but the basil is good -Green Beans in XO Sauce and Minced Pork: the green beans are good but the minced pork seemed random and lacks some flavor -General Chicken: oh this was very disappointing... the sauce was just a bit sour and overall not a good dish. Would recommend to skip this dish. Pro: -Huge tables that can accommodate 6+ groups of people -Takes card -Most dishes were good -Complimentary hot tea and peanuts provided Con: -Limited seating for smaller parties -Service is a bit slow. You need to flag them down multiple times and they respond faster if you speak Chinese -Food took awhile to get to the table

Yelp
Delicious Hakka style Chinese food. Really enjoyed our mostly take out orders. We really enjoyed the Mu Shu Pork, and spicy eggplant with minced pork.
google avatar

Bradford C.

Yelp
My aunt and uncle live down the street from there, and it's their go-to for Chinese. I can understand why. It's a tasty, well-cooked place. Whether if it's something simple, such as a chow mein/fun to something more intricate, like a steamed fish or whatever else, the food is just consistently good. Growing up, my only points of reference were my extended Chinese family members or Chinatown, but I know now that whenever I find myself in this particular part of the Richmond, this is the place to go for Chinese. The servers are great, and it looks pretty quiet from the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover. This place is good.

Yelp
Since we did not have any gatherings for this year's COVID-Thanksgiving, we decided to order take-out from here instead of preparing a feast. It was super convenient! I called them a week in advance to pre-order the stuffed fried chicken with sticky rice and then on Thanksgiving, I called to add two more dishes. The restaurant asked for us to call them on the day of to provide an ETA so they can fry the chicken at a timely order to ensure we are getting the freshest / crispiest quality possible! The stuffed fried chicken with sticky rice (5/5) was AMAZING. You have to call to pre-order for this dish. Surprisingly, there actually isn't that much chicken meat in the dish. They take out all the meat, fry the skin to crispy perfect, and then place that on top of a bed of glutinous sticky rice (seasoned rice with Chinese sausage. They then cut the pieces into small serving sizes and arrange them beautifully on the serving tray. The portions were pretty big - can probably feed a 3-5 people. The pumpkin strips with salted eggs (5/5) is probably one of my favorite dishes! Of the few Bay Area places I've tried, so far this is my favorite restaurant to order this dish from. These are bit-sizes pumpkin strips coated in a batter of salted eggs and then fried. Unlike other places, you do not get an oily after-taste from this restaurant and is not too salty. Seafood over chow fun in XO sauce (4/5) was pretty good. This is dish consists of the classic thick chow mein noodles with shrimp, fish, and squid. There was only a very light hint of XO sauce - you really have to be searching for that flavor. Overall, they made ordering for the busy holiday during a pandemic very convenient! Their menu offers a large variety of options and I will definitely return to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Ex chef from R&G which is famous for their crab. Deep fried with a coating to lock in the moisture with some pork chili garlic bits to add flavor. One of the benchmarks of sf Chinatown crab. Popular with locals they have other popular dishes most of which don't show up on yelp. Most of the local clientele coming here don't write yelp reviews let alone speak English
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
Think this is a causal neighborhood restaurant. The staff is super friendly and chill. Food was delicious and so decently priced. Place appears clean. Enjoyed the sticky rice stuffed chicken. We called to order this ahead. Other things to call in advance is seafood (empress clam, etc.), quail, so they can get it fresh. Would recommend coming here for casual hearty meal.
google avatar

Tony R.

Yelp
Food was good. Standouts were the beef and peppers, sweet and sour fish, stir-fried fish, and the stuffed tofu. Complementary desert at the end of the meal (a sweet rice soup). Service was good. Atmosphere was okay, except for the harsh lighting.
google avatar

Stephy Z.

Yelp
I would give it 0 star if I could. The food quality is definitely not as good as before. Felt like getting ripped off. Pay $105 for 5 dishes when I couldve eaten somewhere for better food. The only good dish was the Chinese bacon with preserved greens. Everything else was meh
google avatar

Tom L.

Yelp
The food is good with reasonable prices. The service can be a little slow when the place is crowded like on the weekends.

Yelp
Our regular go to Chinese place was closed for the CNY week so tried this placed. Over all not very good with 2 of the 4 dishes a miss. The salty fish and chicken fried rice was the only hit along with the fish fillet XO sauce. The combo noodles was very bland and not much protein and very greasy and heavy battered Peking pork ribs. Will try another Chinese place next time for take out.

Ilsa S.

Yelp
I haven't eaten the food yet. But they put an 8$ automatic tip on a takeout order. Will not come here again.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! I wish I could give it 10 stars. The food is insanely good. It was some of the best food I have ever had. It was so delicious that I asked the nice man at the register to let the chefs know how much I loved my meal! It was awesome! Everyone who worked there was so friendly and helpful as well! I loved that there were photos of the food on the menu. It made it easier for me to see what everything was. (I'm a bit unfamiliar!) We ordered the pork belly with preserved vegetables, the soup dumplings, and the fried chicken wings. Everything was seriously phenomenal. The pork belly was my favorite. It was sweet, salty, and fatty. I got a side of rice with it and was in heaven. We also got free salted peanuts and tea! It was the perfect dinner on a cool, foggy night. I can't wait to go back. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Sophia W.

Yelp
This restaurant has the WORST customer service ever! They took forever to bring out our order and when the food came, it was all cold! The soup wasn't even warm and it tasted like water. In order to make room for our food, we asked them to change the bigger dishes into a smaller plate. They ignored us and just stacked the plates on top of each other. When we asked the workers to check on our food, he says "I don't know" and walked away. They didn't even follow up with us. We had to ask another work. Overall, the food and services was terrible! I do not recommend coming here!

Jacky K C.

Yelp
Great food at very good prices. Large portions. Pan fried stuffed tofu very tasty. There are a few items you have to order in advance such as the hakka roasted duck but I reckon it's well worth it. Pig stomach soup had a slight kick from the peppercorns but that's to be expected. Not that big a deal since the kids drinked it with no problems. 梅菜扣肉 pretty much a must order. Will try the roasted duck next time!

Yelp
Great restaurant serving authentic Hakka cuisine, as well as more standard Cantonese dishes. I enjoyed my experience here much more than some other highly rated restaurants in the area, and it's definitely worth the trek to Outer Richmond for me. Almost everything I've tried here has been delicious. Some reviews have complained about service. I think that it is well-intentioned and the owner is super nice, but it might be easier if you have someone in your party who can speak at least Mandarin. I ordered the stuffed chicken over the phone in English, and while I was able to order it in the end, the communication was not the clearest. My favorite dish: -Stew bitter melon with catfish in clay pot (seasonal) ($27.95) - pricey but worth it. The catfish is tender with a caramelized coating and super delicious, and goes together really well with the bitter melon. The fish does contain bones and you probably need to be a fan of bitter melon to enjoy this dish though. Highly recommended: -House special pan fried tofu ($10.95) - delicate soft tofu stuffed with ground pork. Really great, and also lighter tasting than most other dishes I tried here. -Lamb with dry bean curd in clay pot ($16.95) - the bean curd and sauce are delicious. The lamb (contains bones) is good, but the bean curd is really the star in my opinion, and it's perfect with rice. -Stuffed chicken with sticky rice ($39) - this needs to be pre-ordered, which I definitely recommend doing. The price may seem high but it's a very labor-intensive dish to make and definitely worth the price in my opinion. It's a deboned chicken stuffed with sticky rice (loaded with chicken, sausage, dried shrimp, and mushrooms) and fried, so the skin is very crispy. There isn't that much meat left on the chicken (it seems that most of it has been reincorporated to the sticky rice), and it does understandably get oily after a while so I recommend sharing this with at least 4-6 other people. -Sticky rice in lotus leaf ($13.95) - contains peanuts, sausage, dried shrimp, mushroom, and eggs. Delicious and not as heavy or oily as the sticky rice inside the chicken dish. -Pumpkin strips with salted egg ($9.95) - delicious combination of sweet pumpkin and salty yolk coating. Super addictive, and it doesn't feel heavy despite being fried. Recommended: -Salt & baked chicken (whole) ($28) - pretty good, and not overly salty at all. It's a good rendition and salt baked chicken is a classic Hakka dish, but I personally preferred some of the other items here. ---- Not recommended: -Short ribs with black pepper & honey sauce ($14.95) - while the flavor is good, the beef is very sinewy and difficult to eat. This dish is the only miss I've had here.

Yelp
It's your typical Chinese restaurant with nothing special to write about. The service was, however, way below average and unprofessional. The wait staff was rude and mean. It's not a pleasant place to have an enjoyable dinner. Will definitely not return.

Yelp
Good home-style Hakka cuisine. The ingredients were fresh and prepared simply to really let the natural flavors shine through. The tofu texture was amazing, and the stewed tomatoes were lovely as well. My favorite dishes were probably the fried rice dish that came in a lotus leaf and the tofu. The Chinese broccoli was cooked with a tad bit too much rice vinegar, and the aftertaste was very potent. Otherwise this is no-frills homey food (albeit a bit oily), and I could see myself coming back for the convenience. The staff is very friendly and checks for vaccination cards once you're seated, and the interiors are clean and spacious. Conveniently located very close to Ocean Beach!

Yelp
Both food and service are very good. Worth recommending to all. Very authentic Hakka cooking. Especially the Hakka salted bake chicken and stirred fried pea shoots with garlic.
