The Pad Thai and Chicken Lettuce Wraps were pretty good. They usually get really busy on weekends around dinner time so you have to time it well. It’s a nice place to meet up with friends or dine by yourself. The staff is accommodating and food comes out in a timely manner. The prices aren’t too bad, not too steep.

Google
They never disappoint. Honestly, I’ve never tried any of the hot plates other than the chicken lettuce wraps bc I come here for the sushi. And the sushi is absolutely delicious. I always eat at the bar and service is stellar and occasionally the manager/owner comes around to ensure you are happy with your meal and service. See photo, sushi is a work of art.

Google
Nice ambience. Food was good. Large portions. Good drink options. Would have liked more less spicy sushi options. Moderately expensive but you do get two meals in portion size.

Sharon Reiss

Google
Always consistently great food. Their lettuce wraps are out of this world. They also have an amazing selection of mojito options.

The food was amazing. All of our four orders and two appetizers had superb taste. Our server made the evening memorabile. Definitely will go back.

Google
Maybe 1 in 20 restaurants deserve a rating of five. Very few actual deliver excellence in all three of food quality, service & atmosphere. The texture and quality of the vegetables was awesome in the mouth. The onions well perportioned and not used as filler. The sauce left a delicious back hint of spice but not so overwhelming to have fire breath.

I came here recently for a work lunch to celebrate one of my colleague's retirement. We had a party of 10; arrived on Wednesday around 1145am. We were seated immediately at in the main dining area. Our server was nice and brought us waters and took our orders promptly. We put in a couple appetizers - the calamari and dumplings, which came out along with the soups pretty fast. The calamari was almost hard, kind of felt/tasted a bit stale; I liked the dipping sauces, but the calamari itself did not seem fresh and was lacking in flavor. I enjoyed the dumpling a bit more. For my entree, I ordered the beef lo mein with a cup of wonton soup and I added an egg roll. I thought the wonton soup was bland; and definitely not worth the upcharge. My egg roll came out before the main dish (I'm pretty sure it was a spring roll actually; but it tasted fine, especially with the dipping sauce). The low mein was definitely a generous portion (I had several meals for leftovers) but on its own was also a little lacking in seasoning. I requested a side of the house chili oil, and that definitely helped! All in all though, I'd say this was a very mediocre meal/experience; I don't think it lived up to the hype for me, but I would be willing to give it another chance (maybe try the hot and sour or egg drop soup, make sure I actually get an egg roll etc). Worth nothing, the rest of the party seemed content with their meals though.

Stopped in for dinner and enjoyed my time here. Food came out hot, was tasty, and the service was great. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Our server, who was new, was outstanding. She made us feel welcome and checked on us frequently to be sure all was well. The food was really good. I had a shrimp tempura roll that was excellent. Others had the Mongolian Beef (smelled delicious and she said it was great), a spicy chicken curry, and tuna sashimi. The crème brûlée was excellent!

Yelp
The reduction of my rating is squarely focused on the quality of service rendered here. In my latest encounter, I sat at the bar which had no customers and still waited several minutes for someone to take my order. This was the pattern for the rest of my visit; for example, the bartender once asked if I wanted a refill -- but took several minutes to deliver the refill, and not because they were overwhelmed with work either. The service problems aren't limited to the person working behind the bar either. The kitchen and wait staff still have no clue how to stage the delivery of the soup with the arrival of the entree. They come at the same time. How is this so difficult to figure out? I shouldn't see the main dish until I'm finishing up the bowl of soup. The food is still alright here, but the service problems are convincing me to cross this off my list of dining options for at least a while.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible. We had a reservation and were still sat in the bar area because of how busy it was, which didn't really bother me EXCEPT the bartender had to serve us and kept complaining about it. She would tell us it wasn't her fault when she would forget to bring us things like cups and silverware because she shouldn't have to be dealing with us anyway. Then the food came out... it was disgusting. I ordered the Mongolian Beef which I usually love everywhere I get it and it was grainy and did not taste good- no flavor- mud like texture. I sent it back. Then the owner/manager (not sure which she was) of the restaurant came out to tell me that no one sends the Mongolian Beef back and that it is one of their specialties and then just stared at me as though I was supposed to apologize?!? I told her I have had Mongolian beef many times and usually love it but explained what was wrong with the one I had just been given. She just walked away. The server/bartender was rude, the owner/manager was rude. The food was gross although the serving sizes were huge. I would prefer good food and less of it than a mountain of something barely edible. The ambiance was nice but our silverware and cups came out dirty with lipstick and dried food on it so we had to ask for new ones. Not ever planning to go back.

Yelp
2015 April 01, 12:05 Winston Salem NC I recently did a review a few months ago. Frankly this is one of my "go to" places in Winston when i want a good fusion of flavors with great food and professional service. When i sit down i go through the menu looking for something i haven't had or if i am in the mood i may order one of my all time favorites to appease my wild cravings. Setting just sort of mellows out my day. So if i am having a bad day, this place with its fun flavors can really be an island of calm. As you can tell i would certainly recommend

Yelp
The curry bowl and really any of the bowls is where it's at. We tried the lettuce wraps with tofu this time and didn't even notice it wasn't chicken. We always get a Philly Roll and another more adventures roll for the table when we come here. I am a salad guy versus the soup - and their ginger dressing is awesome. If a meal offers a spring roll for a small up charge - it's worth it - do it.

J. G.

Yelp
We are repeat customers, which I believe is already at least several 'stars' worth. However, we've always done take away, never in house or delivery, which does limit this review in some areas, but not in all. HakkaChow has never messed up our order. All the dips and sauces are always included. The food is always fresh, the correct temperature, and generous. The packaging is excellent and the pricing is reasonable. Front of house is always pleasant and on time. The dishes are excellent and consistently tasty. We love them!

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The staff is always friendly and the food is great. They have simplified their lunch menu since the pandemic but still offer a great variety of Asian cuisine. I am never brave enough to try their sushi menu but it always looks fantastic on the trays passing by. The pork egg rolls are fantastic and I would love to eat Mongolian tofu every day.

Yelp
Just average fair. I feel I am an Asian Grill or a Sports bar. Just ok. Not great. On a rain weekday it was quiet I sat at the bar. Long time to order and receive my lunch.

Yelp
This is my go-to lunch place. Their sushi is amazing and they have a ton of options to choose from. I love the shrimp tempura and plain lo mein. They have drink specials every single day and I love when Wine is half off. The ambience is nice and classy. The service is great. We love the servers.

Yelp
Much like Phoenix Asian Cuisine in Greensboro, Hakkachow calls to mind a non-corporate P.F. Chang's, only better. The restaurant is modern and spacious with plenty of seating to go around. The menu skews Chinese though there are Korean and Thai offerings as well as a sushi/poke menu as well. While there is something to be said for the comfort of familiarity, that menu, save for a few of the sushi rolls, offers no surprises. Everything you'll find here, you've likely already had elsewhere. My wife and I opted to start with one of the unique rolls (Cajun Revolution: tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and jalapeno inside/Cajun salmon, tuna, yellowtail, crispy shallot, aioli, and eel sauce outside), followed by a veggie fried rice (with homemade chili oil) and Singapore noodles, respectively. Our app came quickly, and we didn't have long to wait for our entrees either though service slowed considerably as the restaurant got busier. However, our server remained courteous, apologetic, and unflappably professional through it all. The kitchen proved to be on its game as well. On paper, the Cajun Revolution seemed almost too much, but it made for a tasty bite: spicy, crunchy, and flavorful. Singapore noodles are one of my go-to dishes for Chinese and Asian fusion, and Hakkachow's version didn't disappoint. While not the best I've had, the composition, flavors, and aroma were all there. The fried rice was likewise well-executed, and it contained a variety of veggies, but it wasn't leaps and bounds ahead of what you can get elsewhere. Hakkachow's entrees run large, which helps take the sting out of the mid-teens pricing. On the one hand, that is hardly unreasonable for a nice meal out. On the other hand, depending on how you feel about your favorite Chinese takeout joint, the extent to which Hakkachow's food surpasses it may or may not justify the extent to which Hakkachow's prices do. All told, Hakkachow promises competently made food in a pleasant environment. It might lack a distinctive "wow" factor, but it doesn't seem likely to let you down, either.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed eating here. The wait staff was knowledgeable and was able to customize some menu items to be vegetarian for us, which we really appreciated. We ordered kung pao tofu (instead of chicken) and the eggplant. Both of which were excellent. Service was fast and attentive. Definitely recommend

Yelp
To set the scene, this restaurant is in a smaller shopping in an inconspicuous business like building. You walk in and are greeted by a friendly host that's wisps you off your table. The smell of steamed dumplings and soy sauce fill the air in an enticing manner. Our server for the evening greeted us with a friendly smile and handed us our menus and the Thursday special is 1/2 off glasses of wine! As for the menu everything on it was making my mouth water. For appetizer I had the crab wontons and get this they are made with REAL CRAB not that imitation crab. REAL CRAB! They were delicious. Creamy and crispy for the perfect blend of textures. For dinner the hot and sour soup came next. A more viscous soup filled with plenty of flavors in it to keep you coming back for the next spoonful. It was not overpowering in its flavors and was a perfect to set me up for my main course. As an adventurous eater I decided to go with the sushi tower and added on the Salmon Tartar for $5. I had no idea what to expect, but the layers of rice, tuna, crab salad and crisp were presented beautifully! Upon tasting it, I was pleasantly surprised but I did find myself wishing for just a little more of something. It was good, but the flavors seemed to all come together in a way that kept everything more masked. All in all I had a great experience an look forward to returning! I think I will look to explore the other entrees and rolls next time but I know I will be getting great quality cooking at solid pricing as well

Yelp
WOW! We returned to Hakkachow after speaking with the owners about our previous experience. We didn't tell them when we were going, so it was still an authentic experience. Food was delicious as always. We had the orange chicken, the general Tso chicken, crab wontons, the Hakka zen shrimp, and the garlic naan. The kids had chicken tenders and fries with a side salad. Everything was wonderful! The host staff was friendly and responsive, our waitress (Becca I believe her name was) was responsive, quick, and friendly. We had a much better experience this time around and the atmosphere, service, and food were all much more up to the normal standard. We have so much respect for family owned and operated businesses especially when they take pride in their product and their customer service. 10/10 worth your time and money here at Hakkachow. You will leave full and happy. If there is ever an issue you can count on the management to respond promptly and help to make it better. If you haven't been yet, go try Hakkachow!

Yelp
Another great lunch at Hakkachow. I had the sushi lunch special which is a good value option. The salad and the spicy salmon were great.

Yelp
Great selection of asian cuisine and drinks. Theres a Lunch, Dinner and Sushi menu. My favorite is the Korean Bulgogi Beef and the Crab Wonton! Nice spot for a gathering, date or solo pit stop especially in the evening. The staff is friendly and provides great service, i just wish they had desserts. Update: desserts are offered i just missed them. Will try next visit!

Yelp
We came here for a birthday celebration.  First, they have lunch specials everyday until 3pm. So,  we all capitalized on that fact.  The birthday girl ordered the chicken lettuce wrap for an appetizer. It's was a large portion and very good. I ordered the green curry with chicken. The portion size again was great and it came with a good amount of vegetables. I have already been back.

Yelp
We eat here frequently because it's always consistently good. The food is always hot and fresh. You can tell the ingredients are super fresh. Large portions for the money. We always have leftovers and they are always great later. This is a must try if you're in Winston Salem.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok. So. There's a lot to say. Let's start by saying the food was good. I came on a Friday night so it was pretty crowded, and the service was a bit slow. I came with my brother his exact words were "the scenery of this place was amazing 100 stars on the decorations alone." My brothers got the coconut curry soup 10/10, and a sushi stack 7/10, he said the rice could use seasoning. I got the Philadelphia and Spicy Tuna roll 10/10 on both. I also got a Shirley Temple 10/10
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
The best egg rolls in town. The dishes are excellent, several steps above the standard Chinese food place that infests most shopping centers. Of course they have more than just Chinese, but that is what I go for. The Mongolian beef is excellent. The decor and roominess is also excellent.
google avatar

Shelly L.

Yelp
Hakkachow is a locally owned Asian fusion restaurant with a modern decor. The menu has specialties but just a few selections from each, which I think is a sign that they aren't trying to do too much but rather focusing on what they can do well. There are a couple of Thai, Korean, Malaysian, Japanese and Mongolian selections. The server, "Z", was personable, attentive and helpful...always helps to make the overall impression a good one. The restaurant was busy but the food came out quickly. We were having a late dinner so we stuck to just entrees. When I ordered the bulgogi, Z asked if I liked spicy foods so I assured him that I love spice and flavor and looked forward to a nice spicy dish. Food arrived nice and hot but lacked both flavor and spice, literally no heat to my dish. The only heat in either entree was from the whole dried chiles in the Kung Pao Chicken, which are cooked just for flavor but I was so desperate for some spice and taste, that I actually ate a few of them. So all in all, a nice little date night spot with good service but lacking the depth of flavors you expect in the dishes we ordered. I am going to go back soon, as I think maybe we just had an off night.

Yelp
Friendly staff, clean and trendy atmosphere, and delicious food, what more could you want. Our waitress, Becca, had a positive spirit the entire time despite us coming close to closing. My wife and I always get our go to orders, Beef and Broccoli for her and Beef Fried Rice. I can put away a lot of food and I am always surprised that I'm full everytime. It is pricer than your Chinese restaurant, but it is well worth it.

Mike E.

Yelp
Dinner was great sushi was outstanding the freshness and quantity were great. Really enjoyed our time. The atmosphere was good for catching up with family. Overall a good place to frequent.

Mande B.

Yelp
Atmosphere was nice and brought a feeling of mystic happenings afoot. I had the orange beef and it was amazing. The lemongrass sauce that my son had with the crab wantons was excellent. Spring rolls were good and the hot mustard was yummy. Service was good, and all food came out hot.

Yelp
Excellent in every category! A go to! Consistent. Clean. Large portions. I would highly recommend! Take out is on point too!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go. Everything I've had from here it's always delicious. The service and attention is always very friendly. And they're always there to guide you through the best option for you. It has a great atmosphere and very clean. My favorite food to have here is the crab wontons with the crispy sweet & sour pork!
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
The food was very good. The place was clean and they people were nice. The orange chicken was awesome and the dumplings are exactly the way they should be. I will definitely be checking back. I like them as much if not more than some of the local Japanese steakhouses nearby. I would say they are a little bit better than PF Chang. Just a little.

Yelp
I love Hakka Sushi it is so fresh and so good! They always have great service. The ambulance is so classy and elegant.

Danie L.

Yelp
The food was good. The curry coconut soup was the best of all. Service was very slow. We waited at least 10 minutes after we were seated before anyone showed up. The service was rather poor; slow, no condiments, did not offer refills for beverages. After we finished our meal it took another 15 minutes to get our bill, after we requested it. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated. This would have easily been a 4 but that service really hurt.
google avatar

Marie O.

Yelp
We heard about this place from friends and yelp, and our son treated us to a take out dinner today. It was amazing. Pad thai was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his green chicken curry. Our son said it was best Mongolian beef dish since he's moved here. I tried it and he was right, had that perfect beef succulent tenderness. We definitely want to try the special sushi rolls next time when we dine in. Our order was perfect for our take out day. It's fusion so I'm shocked that the Thai dishes were as good as the Korean dishes. Usually you loose something with fusion restaurants but not at this place. This will be a regular spot for us.

Yelp
Everything went well from service yo food especially the chim chi fries yummy , we went thete as a group and service was quick and. On time

Yelp
Ordered the panko fried chicken with peanut sauce. It was good chicken katsu, but was expecting more of an incorporated sauce. The veggies on the bottom were too salty - just cooked in soy sauce with no balance. The egg fried rice was also a bit salty. But the kicker - they charged .50 for chili sauce. What!?! I've eaten Asian food all over the country from Cali to the North East, Midwest to the South - I've never been charged for hot sauce/condiment. I know it's only .50 but the principle of it offends me.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Delicious their portions are amazing the food is excellent the building looks great the staff are wonderful check it out

Yelp
Seriously every time we eat here we wonder why we don't eat there more! Service is always so prompt and friendly, with the owners/managers checking in on tables. We popped in last night about 6:30, there was no wait and our food arrived in about 10 mins. We ordered 2 rolls, lettuce wraps, and sides of lo mein and garlic naan. I seriously had enough left over for lunch, too.

Yelp
Well butter my biscuit and call me Sally! Hakka Chow has done it again! This visit was a birthday celebration! Let's start with Lex! When we arrived he was obviously cleaning up the bar after what appeared to be a busy Saturday pm dinner rush. That didnt stop him from making us feel welcomed and comfortable. He was laid back, patient, accommodating, funny, and full of knowledge about the menu and drinks. Can't tell you how nice it is to find great service these days. Highly recommend him as a bartender and a server! As if that wasn't enough, the owners Caroline and Andrew at different times stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our visit. The place itself is clean and put together. High end food with a laid back atmosphere. As for the food, well, that sells itself. I could live off the appetizers alone. Play it safe and try the General Tso, Fried Rice, or Mongolian Beef. You won't be disappointed! Or venture out and try anything Bulgogi! Their version is the best I've had in NC! But then there is Sushi (Sumo Roll and Surf n Turf are my favorite), Orange Beef, Vermicelli with Beef, best Mapo Tofu I've ever had, and Pad Thai. Go on and pay more for the side of LoMein and thank me later! The curry options deserve their own sentence! What I'm saying is, this place has something for everyone. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, nut allergy! They got you covered! We had to take a second round of entrées home for later. Too many good options! They also offer outstanding lunch portions at fast food prices. How can soup even be that delicious? If you haven't gone yet, you are truly missing out. Now I'm hungry again, great!
google avatar

Yelp
Best food I've had in a long time. Amazing options with a lot of Asian fusion. I got sushi and garlic naan, boyfriend got General Tso Chicken, boyfriend's mom got Kung Pao Chicken and we shared the beef dumplings. Everything was amazing and Joy has the best service I've experienced since moving to this area 6 months ago. (Give that girl a raise.) I didn't take any pictures of the food because I was too excited to eat everything but I highly recommend stopping by. Seems like there's no bad options. I will be happily returning very soon.

Yelp
Great place to get some amazing Asian cuisine. Highly Recommend! I'm originally from the area, but no longer live her. However, my parents still live her so I visit when I can. My mom mentioned going here one day and we decided to try it out. My dad is not an adventurous eater, so when I'm in town we always try to get Asian food. The first time we decided to try it, it was during quarantine so they were only doing carryout. They don't have online ordering available, but I've never had an issue when trying to call to place an order. Even with restaurants back up and running, the takeout process is still effective and efficient. I've also dined in and it's an equally great experience. The staff is always friendly and the it is always clean. Parking is shared with the other businesses in the area, but I've never had a parking issue. Firstly, the drinks are great! They're creative and reasonably priced. They also have great drink specials throughout the week. Next, and most importantly the food. EVERYTHING IS AMAZING!!!! It's so flavorful and delicious. The presentation is great as well. You definitely get your money's worth. My mom loves Sweet & Sour Pork so she always orders it since most places don't have it and it's amazing here! The Pad Thai is also great as well as the Vietnamese Vermicelli. I haven't had the sushi yet, but I'm eager to try.

Yelp
Oh Hakkachow. You have stooped to a new low. Today I met my friends there for lunch and the quality and service has gone down hill and it's so unfortunate. I really enjoyed this place back in the day. Today was a new low for you when you actually charged me for sriracha to go with my spicy tuna roll. REALLY! that is the equivalent to ketchup at an Asian restaurant. I noticed your menu has added an additional charge for the hot oil as well as other condiments. You didn't mention the sriracha but yet you charged me for it. So you are nickel and diming your customers now. Well consider me gone. There are a lot of great restaurants that allow condiments with a meal at no charge.

Yelp
It has been months since I last ate here, and it was not good then, but today, I thought I'd give it another chance today. If at all possible, the food was worse. Gummy dumplings, bland lo mein, mean, overcooked general tso's Chicken, hardly any shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. It was an almost 70 dollar meal, which filled me with nothing but regret. You get me once, shame on you. You get me twice, shame on me. If I could give this place negative stars, I certainly would.

Yelp
Another great meal at our favorite Asian restaurant. I had the Vietnamese Vermicelli Bowl, daughter had chicken lo mein and wife had the Mongolian beef. All dishes were excellent. I want to give special recognition to our server who went out of her way to help me order due to my shellfish allergy. She was so patient and kind. She was an excellent server all around. The place was impeccable as always. Clean and shiny, well prepared for service. Hakkachow continues to impress in all aspects.

Yelp
INTRO: HakkaChow is one of the better Asian restaurants in Winston-Salem. However, I still consider it an Asian restaurant that caters towards the American population in this city because their Asian cuisine is heavily Americanized, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but lacks the authenticity of traditional Asian cuisine. Nonetheless, I felt that HakkaChow closely resembled a Americanized Asian fusion franchise P.F. Changs based on the wide selection of dishes that my group ordered. SUSHI: My friends and I ordered a few of their specialty rolls because we were all craving sushi, and we don't have that many options here in Winston-Salem. The rolls were pretty solid. The fish tasted fresh, and I felt like the rolls were decorated well. However, there was nothing spectacular about these rolls, but they definitely got the job done. If you're craving sushi, I would add HakkaChow as one of your considerations. ENTREES: I got their General Tso's chicken, which came with a hefty portion. The plate was about 12 inches by 12 inches, and it was completely full of food, which consisted of the chicken, broccoli, and rice. The chicken was well-battered and well-seasoned with the sauce. My friends got some of their noodle dishes and chicken dishes, and they all enjoyed their food. I feel like no matter what dish you pick here, you honestly cannot go wrong because all of their food caters to the general population. VENUE: This is casual dining experience. There is no dress code and no need to dress up. There is also plenty of seating, so you do not have to worry about waiting to be seated. My group arrived to this restaurant at 7pm on a Sunday night, and we were seated right away. OVERALL: If you're craving Asian food and sushi in Winston-Salem, definitely check this place out (Overall 7.5/10)

Yelp
Food and service okay nothing special. Very disappointed in my strawberry mojito. A strawberry syrup was used, didn't use and fresh mint or strawberries so it was overly sweet. Got the crab wontons for a appetizer, were okay taste to be previously frozen. Sushi was okay as well. Probably won't be back.

Yelp
Really good food, this was my first visit and I enjoyed it. We had a great server Abigale. She was very helpful with the menu and service. I will definitely be going back soon. The restaurant was clean. The whole experience was wonderful

Yelp
Went for dinner on a Sunday night and my group of 7 was seated within minutes. It was quite busy and the establishment had many tables. Interior was darkened and had a very nice yet causal vibe. The service was great and they promptly fixed one of the table's orders due and explained their server was still in training. I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and quality of the food. I like that they had drink and food specials daily, today was 50% flavored sake and buy 1 sushi roll get a second one for 50% off. My partner and I got the Sweet Heat sushi roll which had decent quality fish and flavor. We also split the General tso chicken which was much too sweet and on the saltier side. We appreciated the quantity and how they used real chunks of chicken breast (which made it slightly dry but didn't bother us too much). The table shared kimchi french fries and chicken wraps as appetizers which were delicious. Large quantities with tons of flavor. Overall, I would come back when I'm really craving some sushi or Asian dishes.

Yelp
This is my second time eating HakkaChow, but my first time dining in. I can tell from my experience that dining in is preferable because the food comes out quick and hot. We ordered the KimChee fries to split which had a good heat, and nice tasting sauce and were delicious. My son got the calamari and it said it was among the best he had eaten. My wife got the General Tso chicken with brown rice and I got one of the Poke Bowls. All the food was excellent and the service was great from Leslie our server. I would recommend it and hopefully will come back to enjoy some other dishes.

Yelp
A Winston GEM! Since moving here I have found it difficult to find a place that has it all - Great fried rice, dumplings, soup, Singapore noodles, sesame chicken, etc. HakkaChow consistently delivers quality food. The restaurant is unassuming in a shopping center but let me tell you- they could hold their own against the competition downtown. The service is always quick and quality. I believe this is because the owners are heavily involved and come to check on tables periodically. It seems like everyone helps each other out to ensure drinks are always refilled and food gets to the table piping hot. The lunch specials are also very well priced and plenty of food. We come here often as well as get takeout and the food is just amazing! A must try in Winston!
