With 3 locations around the southland, it seems like the location on 6th Street (as featured in one of Anthony Bourdain's shows on the LA food scene with Roy Choi) is the most popular. This one is not as crowded, which by all means, is good with me.
Their star dish is their signature Pork Neck Bone Stew, but their BBQ pork spare ribs are even better. Flame broiled, and well marinated. Each piece was pack full of flavor, a savoriness with a hint of sweetness to them. The pork neck bone stew was a good sized serving with plenty of meat on the neck bones to nosh on. The broth has a nice mild heat and kimchi flavor.
And when our pot was getting low on broth, the older lady refilled it without a beat. Wonderful!
We also ordered the beef sirloin to grill at our table. My other friends thought our server was going to handle all the cooking, since he helped out with the placing of the meat and onions on the grill. But that turned out not being the case. Have to try it again next time and properly cook the meat.
Thinking that we could use more food, we ordered the octopus with noodles. Octopus was cooked in a lovely sauce that was almost equally savory as it was sweet with a little heat to it. It was delicious and the noodles were a good addition to have ($2 extra) as you need to soak up some of that delicous sauce to eat...
Six different types of ban chan were served with your meal, and are refillable without any hesitation, and their simple romaine lettuce salad was dressed well, making it tasty and a good item to have to balance out all that meat we were eating. Ban chans were fine, with the bean sprouts being my favorite.
Bill was rather reasonable. Unfortunately, didn't realize that there was a corkage fee of $30 for the 3 bottles of wine my friends brought. They drank, I didn't, but paid my share of the corkage fee anyway. Doh!
Limited parking spaces in the lot behind the restaurant.
