So I struggled rating this place a 3. I really wanted to give this place a higher rating but here is why I couldn’t. The food was good except for a few things. We had the stuffed Shishito peppers, nigiri combo and the Shoyu Ramen. The Ramen had great flavor and for me was just the right size, and the pork belly was perfect so good…but the soup was lukewarm. No one wants cold ramen especially on 30 degree days. Please serve that ramen super hot… The Nigiri I was told was really good. Most people who follow my reviews know I’m not a raw fish fan so I leave how good that is to my wife. She said it was good. Now for the peppers which was what ruined the whole experience for me. The peppers are stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna and then fried in tempura batter. The tuna was just not it, the tuna should not be in that combo. Seemed to me the tuna was added to the recipe just to add a protein, the texture was wrong and it didn’t fit the dish. I feel there could be a better choice of protein if the owner feels a protein needs to be in there. Like a spicy pork or something that will stand with the cheese and pepper not work against it. Just bad choices as it is. Beyond the issues stated above I liked this place and would consider going back just need to reconsider my menu choices.

Found this place for lunch on a Sunday! A small and quaint restaurant in a rather neighborhood area of Salt Lake City but the quality of the sushi took us by surprise. The staff was very sweet and kind, she was also very attentive to our table. 🍽️What we ordered * shrimp and veggie tempura -- we ended up getting two servings of these because how much we liked them! They were fresh, hot, crispy, and served with the tempura sauce * chicken karage -- honestly by the time tempura and the chicken karage came out, we knew this was a good place. Chicken was juicy inside and crispy out. LOVED the sauce is was served with * crispy tuna tartare -- very fun appetizer with fried sushi rice and spicy tuna on top. * specialty rolls -- we ordered so many that I weren't able to keep track of it. Both Billy Billy and kill bill were great! * nigiri -- often times we judge a sushi place by their red snapper nigiri and this placed passed the test! The red snapper was fresh and so well made. ✨Vibe 8 /10 💵price $40 ish per person 👤party of 5 people I give 9/10, definitely would recommend people checking this place out. Whether you're from the SLC area or just stopping by for a skii trip, you'll definitely be in for a nice treat! 🗓️12/29/2024

Google
Cute little place that has really good sushi. We ate at the bar and they made the sushi in front of us. The service was excellent and our drink never went less than half way before refill. Would definitely recommend.

Google
Best sushi I’ve had in Utah so far. Spicy Tuna Roll and Yellowtail Nigiri. I also got the Gyoza (not pictured) This was the best yellowtail I’ve ever had. I would love to go back. Service was friendly and efficient, food was delicious!

Google
The Miso Ramen hits here! So good and balanced between the broth, toppings, and moods. Definitely won’t disappoint! The sushi is also pretty exceptional too. The Billy Billy and Volcano were some of my favorites. Service was friendly and helpful as well. The ambiance was also nice and updated as well and not over the top. My fave place in Salt Lake City so far!

Google
This place was delicious! The service was incredibly friendly and, since we were there quite early for dinner, it was super fast too. The two rolls that stood out to me were the Cobra Kai and the Volcano, so those are definitely ones that should be tried!

Google
We love a good Hamachi. Rolls are fairly priced. Best Vegas roll I have ever tried! Their They have two vegetarian rolls that are solid. Other favorites include the Tiger and Volcano. It’s a solid choice if you are looking for something quick and delicious.

Google
Great atmosphere (relaxing and attractive), reasonably priced, and the staff were really great! I particularly appreciated the way our server interacted with my niece, which made it fun! As for the sushi, while I enjoyed it, I’d say I wished for a bit more flavor, and the soy sauce was extremely salty.

Yelp
I go all the time. 10/10 sashimi, I prefer Hamachi over Takashi. I'm a regular and I'm treated well, I always get the large sashimi plate, and it blows my mind every time. Usually I stay to eat à la carte sashimi, and sometimes they have fish that's off the menu. I've heard their ramen is yum, and I should try it, but for now, I stick to beer and their sashimi. PS - they have real wasabi

Yelp
We had both the Shoyu Ramen and Tonkatsu Ramen, and they were fantastic. The pork belly slices were cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful without being too greasy. Both broths were really good in their own way and we drank most of it. The portions were just right. Enough to feel full but not overwhelming. The ambiance was casual but warm, with a cozy, relaxed vibe perfect for enjoying a bowl of ramen on a chilly day. It did get busy, but the service stayed friendly and efficient, so we were still able to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. Even though we went in for ramen, some of the sushi roll specials caught my eye, and I'll definitely be back to try them next time! Overall, a solid spot for delicious, comforting ramen, and I'm looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Friends introduced me to this place a few weeks back it's our go to hidden gem. One of the best sushi stops in SLC. It's a very small place but service is great and quick so we never have to wait long. I ordered mostly tuna dishes so fresh and flavorful. The only two notes I will say is I wasn't aware they put wasabi under the pieces of fish when ordering nigiri I am not a fan of wasabi so it wasn't my favorite. And second the "specials menu" didn't have prices on it and the Jalapeno hamachi I ordered was $20 much more than I anticipated an appetizer to be, albeit I could have asked before hand. But anyway this place rocks definitely check it out!

Yelp
Ordered tuna sashimi and pork katsu. The fish quality was mediocre. Not the freshest taste. The katsu was good. Service was slow.

Yelp
I first tried Hamachi on DoorDash and didn't have a great experience. When I shared this news on social media people begged me to go back and give it another shot so I did. Hamachi's sushi is some of the best in town. I highly recommend this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone wanting to try solid sushi in town. There is definitely room for improvement when it comes to making the space feel cozier, but the food is great and the staff is very friendly!

Chicken O.

Yelp
Best ramen out of salt lake so far. Soup wasn't overly potent and noodles were the perfect firmness. Every bite had a different taste depending on how you ate it. Nigiri topped it all off with that texture. The place lowkey also had the perfect vibe to study Physics (hence the book).

Andrea H.

Yelp
I usually find myself disappointed at sushi restaurants in Utah, but every single roll we had today at Hamachi exceeded my expectations. I try to visit a new place each time, and I'm so glad we decided to stop here. it did not disappoint! The flavors were incredible, the fish was sooo good (no fishy taste at all), and everything just melted in my mouth. The quality and attention to detail really stood out. I'm already thinking about my next visit!

Yelp
Great sushi, ramen, miso soup, and value. Service was standard but the food was the main attraction. Ambiance was nice but nothing over the top. Decent amount of street parking available when we went on a Saturday night. Would get again: Miso soup Crispy tuna tartar appetizer Executive roll Volcano roll Wouldn't get again: Spicy salmon roll (very plain if you are into that) My husband loved the miso ramen but wished he had asked for it spicier.
google avatar

Alana Z.

Yelp
I came here with a few co-workers on a weekday night. I think all the tables were full at one point! I tried their tuna crispy rice dish, it was delicious. The crispy rice was extremely crispy and it was an overall yummy app. I ordered the Tiger Roll and Miso Ramen. The Tiger Roll was delicious! Shrimp tempura, cream cheese with salmon on top. It really was yummy. The miso ramen fell a little flat for me. Mainly because I felt like the broth could be more flavorful. The egg was cooked well but the noodles were slightly underdone and on the hard side. I did enjoy the pork belly as it was extremely flavorful! Service was lovely, our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend the sushi here!

Yelp
What a happy find near University of Utah! Delicious, fresh, beautiful sushi--and ramen too. Between our family, we tried a good selection from the menu. Terrific service. And another perk...open Sunday. See photos.

Yelp
Delicious ramen, slightly cheaper than other ramen shops nearby. Our server was very nice, the staff is friendly. I would recommend this place! I will be returning to try the sushi

Yelp
Good food and a great atmosphere, customer service was super helpful and kind, their waitress Bea was great with suggestions on food and drinks for me and my friends and made the dinner more enjoyable, overall was a great experience.

Yelp
Each roll came with 8 bite sized pieces and had a unique flavor. My favorite was Volcano because the lemon adds brightness to the roll.
google avatar

Yelp
The servers were nice, although the wait took a very long time. It ended up being worth the wait though. The outside and inside of the building is quite modern, and generally gives off a stylish vibe. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen, the sunset roll, and the black miso cod. The cod was excellent, cooked to perfection. Cod, I find, is generally chewy, but it was nice and soft, bringing out lots of flavor, like a nice sweetness. The roll was delectable, a nice surprise of combo flavors that left me wanting more. The ramen was amazing, tasted healthy and authentic. The noodles were nice and thin, being easily slurp-able. Great pork, I love the feeling of sinking my teeth into the freshness. Note: The soy sauce they serve here is on the saltier side
google avatar

Yelp
One of my all time favorite restaurants. I love their sunset roll! I've been coming here since my freshman year of college and their food has always been awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Celebrated sister's graduation at this joint. All the rolls were delicious as was karage. The ouster shooters were bomb though- actually come on the half shell as opposed to a shot glass. Ice cold Asahi and hot saki hit the spot too.
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
I visited Hamachi right as they opened for an early lunch during lunch with a friend. We got seated in a small table near the back of the restaurant. The light from the windows on the other side of the room gave a different vibe than our regular job day. I enjoyed the sushi selection because it was fresh and the soup was a good compliment.
google avatar

Abby V.

Yelp
Best place to get some unique rolls! The tonkotsu ramen is always delicious and the restaurant is very cute and feels special whenever you go
google avatar

Janelle R.

Yelp
Sashimi incredibly fresh and delicious, service amazing and ambiance is lovely will definitely be coming back again and again!

Yelp
Fantastic sushi at a fantastic price. A nice wide menu option, and the ambiance of the restaurant is quite nice too.
google avatar

Diego A.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed with my experience here. Noodle soup wasn't what I was expecting. 4/10 quality. Rolls were fine , but not worth what I spent. I wouldn't come here again. And the smell of detergent on the table sucked. Sorry guys I had better sushi for the same value.
google avatar

Maren B.

Yelp
Really impressed with this place. We went on a whim because I was craving sushi and wasn't sure what to expect. The ambiance is casual but the place is clean and larger than it looks from the outside. Service was good. Food was coming out amazingly fast. I tried the kimchi miso and now I don't want miso any other way. So delicious and satisfying. Kimchi in miso is the way. There is also some rice in it so it's extra satisfying. The sushi rolls were creative and delicious. All the food was top notch here. I really quite like having excellent quality sushi in a relaxed, unpretentious environment and will be back soon.

Caressa H.

Yelp
Service was good.Waitress was very kind, but the menu was so limited. There was hardly anything on there for sushi and the hand rolls didnt feed any of us. I figured since it was a new place I seen advertised online as a good choice it would would have a selection. But there was hardly any. I probably won't go back there. My son had the Ramen from the Ramen house side and he was happy. The restaurant was set up nice with the decor but the metal chairs on the certain type of floor were so loud and you couldn't move without feeling like you were disrupting the whole restaurant. Definitely would recommend other seating.
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
I ordered for pick up as this is on my way home. To start, it was ready right on time(there were a good amount of take out orders) and the girl at the front was very friendly. It's on the smaller side inside, but still plenty of seats. I just got the Miso Ramen. It came with a generous amount of broth which was super flavorful. The noodles were also delicious. My only complaint is that there weren't more toppings to chose from. But everything that it came with was delicious. I would heat the broth up a little bit before adding to the noodles if you order take out. Over all good, and good portion for price.
google avatar

John V.

Yelp
Went later in the afternoon for lunch so there weren't many people so the service was more than attentive but they were fully staffed for the lunch rush that had just passed I'm sure. The miso soup was tasty. Feel like you can't really screw that up. The chicken karaage was flavorful. Some pieces felt like it was more batter than chicken but overall the chicken was good and wasn't dry. For sushi, the unagi maki roll and white dragon roll were both solid. Both rolls had a good amount of eel (unagi maki) and tuna (white dragon) on them. Also got a plate of their toro sashimi. Tasted fresh and were decently thick in size.

Yelp
Came here with a few friends when we were staying in the area. Great food. We had a hankering for ramen and enjoyed all of it. We ordered a lot as well. Agedashi tofu was fantastic. Soft silken tofu on the inside and nice crisp skin. Chicken karaage were nice bite sized pieces crispy on the outside, tender on the inside Mixed tempura had a nice medley of vegetables. Ramen was terrific. Great flavored broth, thick wavy noodles. Generous and thick pieces of pork and a perfectly half cooked egg. Good service with QR code menus. Quite a large selection along with a pretty large drink selection. Pretty casual place but can see it being good for a date as well. The restaurant has its own corner lot so easy to find with relatively good parking around the area.

Yelp
Honestly, i don't know why the reviews are so high. This place was so disappointing. As someone who drives by it every day on my way to work, I was so excited to try it out. Well, first off, the server didn't explain anything to us about the "lunch special" and she didn't answer any of our questions regarding the menu. Also didn't give us any soy sauce when our roll was brought out. We asked if there was avocado on the roll, she said no but yet when it came out there was avocado on top. i'm allergic and can't eat avocado. also got the beef teriyaki for my son and the meat was so tough on him. he couldn't even chew it properly. also, got handed a dirty cup for our beer. definitely not coming back. Sapa all the way!

Yelp
I was really craving some sushi on Monday and saw Hamachi was open. As I walked in, I was greeted immediately by a warm and welcoming young woman who ended up being my server. Not only was I treated with the utmost respect but I was guided through the menu, learning every little thing I could learn. If you are looking for an ambient, relaxing experience, this is the place.. And if you want to fully experience the world of sushi and want to be treated with care and respect, ask for Bea! Thank you once again!
google avatar

Elle D.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. This is me and my families go to sushi/ramen spot. The service is so good with an awesome efficient staff. It's a really great place for a good price. The ambiance in the restaurant is good with dim lighting and good seating. Highly recommend going here for an affordable but good sushi.
google avatar

Helene D.

Yelp
One year later review: Still amazing, Still delicious, Still fresh, and still drooling every time I go here One of my favorite places for sushi when I visit SLC. Seriously could always count on Hamachi Sushi Bar for their uni. Service is still fantastic. Only change it seems is their prices for uni went up by double but what's new with inflation. Still worth
google avatar

Darlene M.

Yelp
Ordered food here via Door Dash and had it delivered to our hotel in Salt Lake City. We ordered two rolls, gyoza, and chicken karaage. The gyoza and the chicken was good, but the sushi rolls were just okay. We ordered the Volcano and the Sunset rolls. In my opinion, they were small in size for the price and they weren't even that good. Overall experience was just okay. If you do decide to order from them, I would recommend using the ordering platform on their website instead of Door Dash. There appears to be less menu options on the Door Dash app.

Yelp
This is the BEST sushi I have tried in SLC!!!! Great price for FANTASTIC quality fish. Came here on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend and we were sat so quickly. Our service was outstanding and everything came out so quickly! Our server, Nita, made our whole experience so easy and pleasant. She's adorable! I think we're honestly going to come back next week for dinner (if I can convince him lol). Don't sleep on Hamachi Sushi & Ramen Bar!!!!
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
The BEST sushi I've ever had. My boyfriend got the chicken katsu which was also quite amazing. My favorite sushi place ever
google avatar

Maddy J.

Yelp
We got the fried gyoza, ramen, and the Ute roll. Everything was so yummy and the service was great! I've had the kimchi miso soup before as well and it's my favorite thing that they have! its has a local sushi feel to the restaurant, we will definitely be back.
google avatar

Elle M.

Yelp
I'm giving Hamachi my highest praise, as they have earned a regular spot in my rotation, along with longstanding favorites, Tsunami and Takashi. My experience has been limited to takeout as they made delivery available to the residents of Bountiful, and we are grateful as we suffered many years with few options. This was especially meaningful during sad covid times. But now that dining out is back, I still prefer to stay in a lot. And this is where Hamachi really stands out. How does their shrimp and veggie tempura remain hot and crispy as it travels over the mountain to my door? It's perfect every time. Quality and flavor of miso, sashimi, and rolls hits every craving, every time. Executive and Volcano are standouts. I hope to stop in the restaurant soon and thank these folks for feeding my soul when few other options existed.
google avatar

Jazzy S.

Yelp
We came in for dinner on our last night in SLC. We were pleasantly surprised how yummy and fresh the sushi is here! The service was great, and the food was delicious. - Kill bill (4.5/5): special maki roll, so yummy! The combination of flavors are amazing - Salmon, uni, yellowtail, tuna (4/5): fresh, almost melts in your mouth. Salmon is my favorite, and Uni was great as well We will definitely be back next time we're in town!
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
The food was incredible. The ramen and chicken were lights out. The setting was cool pretty low key vibe. The service was good nothing special but they were friendly.
google avatar

Rayce V.

Yelp
Great sushi! I'd say here, Takashi, and Sapa are about the only sushi restaurants worth going to around SLC. I don't think I've ever gotten a "bad" roll, but at this point I have a few favorites: Green Hornet, Billy Billy, Playboy, Cobra Kai, and Kill Bill. The fish always tastes fresh and the service is always great! It's definitely a more casual atmosphere, but I like it. Highly recommend the Kimchi Miso Soup before your meal as well!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
My husband and I stop here for dinner on a Saturday night around 7:00pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. We got some miso soup, spicy edamame, Executive, Cobra Kai rolls, and a couple of nigiri. Our waitress was very friendly. We loved it all! We definitely will be back to try more rolls.

Gail S.

Yelp
The service is very good. The food is served the table very quickly after ordered. Their menu has dishes for both sushi and non-sushi eaters.
google avatar

Brooke O.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday because my beloved Sapa was closed. But glad we branched out. The sushi here was great and fresh. I went here on a first date and we really enjoyed ourselves. We ordered the sunset, rainbow, Vegas, and Green Hornet rolls. The GH was one of my faves and had a nice spicy kick to it! I noticed many of their rolls are similar to Tsunami-- like the executive roll. But I'm not complaining! Would highly recommend if you're downtown and in the mood for a nice, quiet sushi spot without the long wait.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
My cousin decided that he wanted his birthday dinner to be here at Hamachi. Our waitress was so nice, I can't remember her name, but she had platinum blonde hair. She took care of like 13-15 of us and was SO accommodating. I know our family can ask for a lot and she was there for everything, from more spoons, eel sauce, bowls, on top of taking our large order and making sure each sushi roll was served where it was ordered on the table. I can't thank her enough. She was amazing. We ordered much more than what I have pictures for, I was lucky I even got pictures because we started eating some stuff before I remembered to get pictures! We also go the chicken karaage and it was good too! I personally think sushi can be overpriced and I'm so used to paying half off rolls due to the cheaper restaurants in the city, but I could tell how fresh the fish was, especially in the salmon nigiri. If the fish is like butter and melts in my mouth, I know it was good. I would definitely recommend this place for a date night or just a fun night out with friends. It's definitely darker (like a Cheesecake Factory vibe) inside, but I'm sure if you sit outside, it would be great too!
google avatar

Kriss B.

Yelp
This is a great find in Salt Lake. We ordered takeout and it was brought to us straight from the kitchen! It was very fresh and tasty. I will be back the next time we're in SLC!
google avatar

Holly A.

Yelp
Had a great lunch with the bf Saturday. I had been wanting to give this place a try for some time now. We ordered Tako, spicy Tuna, the Cobra Kai roll, and lollipop. All of which were pretty good with the lollipop. It just wasn't for us the texture was a little weird for us. I wish I had taken pictures of it all before we dove in but it was presented beautifully and we wasted no time enjoying it. The service was very attentive and they wear masks and have the tables spread out for social distancing. The parking is ample so don't worry about meters or parking on the street. They have plenty of spots.

Yelp
Our go to Japanese restaurant. The absolute standout dish is octopus hand roll and scallop hand roll. We love them as much as our favorite ones in NYC. Another sushi we are always happy with is mackerel of different kinds. Their marination is spot on pushing the flavor. Would also recommend arctic char, tuna, toro, butter fish, uni, Ikuta, Kampachi, hamachi. The seasoning of tuna is good. Oh and the absolute key is to sit at the bar. Look for the two owners who make sushi themselves and are just great people in general. Also, ask for in-house soy sauce for your sushi. Note we really just come here for sushi, so not sure how other dishes are. Relative to Takashi, they carry fewer kinds of fish, but I honestly don't find the extra variety is worth much.

Andy B.

Yelp
Hamachi has become one of the true sushi destinations for Salt Lake City, and I've watched it grow steadily over the past 5 years. The food is exceptional, and the service is great. I'd highly, highly recommend the Kill Bill roll, which comes with negi toro (fatty tuna) and king salmon. Other rolls that deserve consideration are the Volcano, Jazz, and Tiger rolls, but it's definitely difficult to just name a few. I would recommend you order Engawa ("flat fish") which is pictured in this review. The fish at Hamachi is very obviously fresh and the sushi chefs are great company, so sit at the bar if you can. Don't forget to check out their ramen!

Yelp
Great neighborhood sushi spot! Highly recommend the lollipop sushi roll and warm sake. Be prepared for a wait, as they were packed on a Monday - but speaks to the quality! Also had a very active takeout service. Will be back!
