Road Tripping North in Search of at Least a Little Summer - Eater

"Escape is apparently on everyone’s minds. I reserved our hotel, located across the street from the lakeshore in Traverse City’s East Bay, a few days ago online, and it was one of the last I could find in the whole city. We drove past at least a dozen hotels on the lakeshore road, most bearing signs proclaiming, 'NO VACANCIES.'" - Jenny G. Zhang

Overall, the stay was nice — the room was clean and comfortable. However, as others have mentioned, the bathroom design is quite odd. The doors don’t fully close and the bathroom is placed right next to the bed, which makes things a bit awkward and uncomfortable, especially if you’re sharing the room. Unlike some other hotels, there’s no EV charging available here, which was a bit disappointing. Breakfast is decent, but it would be great to see more variety. Even the omelette had bacon mixed in, and most options included beef or pork. It would be nice if they offered a few more vegetarian and healthy choices. Good for a short stay, but there’s definitely room for improvement in some areas.

It is summer. I've stayed here before so know how everything goes. That being said, in the busiest pack times of summer you would think management would know to put more then 1 staff at front deck when so many are coming in. Line was crazy. The sole worker behind desk was pleasant and efficient as "one" worker could be but it was a long wait for customer check-in. Other then trying to get the staff some extra hands on deck for the summer season at this location, everything inside room was correct. The confirmation cost against final cost charge was different. Which I will be calling on. Depending on that outcome will determine if we return.

This has been remodeled but rooms are very small relative to newer hotels. There was very little room to move around in the room. Also, it is disappointing to see smoking/vaping outside the front doors by employees! For what we paid/night you would expect better all the way around. They didnt refresh the rooms at all. On a positive note, there was a person who worked the front desk who was very helpful and cheerful when I requested more towels.

Google
You may ask why did I place a 1 if I liked the service and location, well let me lay it out for you. Imagine you pay an exuberant amount over 200 a night for you to walk into the room and find that there isn't enough space to walk in the room. Want to feel like Harry Potter living in a closet? This is for you! The space between the bed and bathroom sliding door was not even enough for my child to stand sideways. Imagine how tight that is for normal adults let alone anyone big and or tall. The location was great you could just walk across the street to the beach and playground for children, but unless you are getting your children their own room expect to be cramped and not want to be in the hotel nor relax there at all.

Google
The hotel is in a great location. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was very good. The rooms were clean, but I absolutely cannot believe that the bathroom doors were 6 inches from the bed facing the room and were two doors that close in the middle. They didn’t completely close and you had to pull them together, which means anybody Going to the bathroom at night was going wake other people up trying to pull the two doors together and because of the proximity to the bed. There’s zero privacy and as the person who slept in the bed next to the bathroom, I hated it. I know the hotel cannot do anything about it because it was a designer error, but it was totally confusing and unacceptable.

Google
Hotel is dogs friendly and that’s why we’ve chosen this one so for that five stars , service five stars . I didn’t like that this hotel is located on the busy road with out traffic lights , so waiting time to turn left ( downtown) is really long . Another couple things why I can’t give five stars is not well taken care of carpets , elevators, doors - all dirty ! Breakfast doesn’t have some better healthy choices and definitely needs upgrading! Some hard boils eggs and Greek jogurt instead of what was available:) coffee not good !Not smart TV in case you need it . Our first night we were in room next to the elevator- we had to change that next day because it was impossible to sleep sice hotel was so busy . For rest of our stay we received new room with was perfect ! Workers great ! We paid around 1200 dollars with all fees including dogs - 3 nights

Google
The reviews about the bathroom doors are legit. There was a gap that slowly widened as it went down the seam between our doors. So make sure you’re comfortable with who you’re staying with. The rooms are tight, but we just needed a place to stay in between travel and I would say this hotel works best for that scenario. My check in experience was a little odd, I travel for work so I am use to how Hilton completes their check in. The front desk lady was frantic and it was just an overall odd experience. She couldnt confirm my last name after she didn’t hear it correctly quoting for privacy reasons and wasn’t clear about what she needed me to repeat it. But she gave pretty exact directions of what floor my room was on and how to get there from the elevator. I would say better training would be needed, if I was traveling alone I would feel pretty uncomfortable with this. Overall decent location across from the park.

Google
Had a great stay here. The staff was really friendly, which made for a nice stay. The bathroom door is a split barn door. Seriously, why? No hot tub as advertised on the website 😕. It would have been nice after biking 20 miles each day.

Yelp
We stayed here during a recent trip for vacation. The hotel is in a good location and is across a very busy street from the lake. We arrived at about 6:00 PM and check-in. They had our room ready and waiting for us. The staff got their job done but were not overly friendly. The room was a standard Hampton Inn style room with a couple of unique features in it to reflect the local area. We had a comfortable king bed with plenty of pillows. The refrigerator and microwave were nice to have and the desk provided adequate room to work. The room seemed clean and we did not have any issues in the room. The breakfast is pretty standard for Hampton Inn. The parking lot had plenty of room even though it was the end of the busy summer season. The cost that this hotel was overpriced at $318 for one night. It definitely is not worth this and is a part of the great hotel pricing scandal that is going on countrywide as they are trying to restuff their cash reserves after the loss from COVID.

Yelp
Frequent Hampton Inn chain visitor, but overall, this location in TC is well below quality standards for anything remotely at a typical Hampton level. I.e. you'll be charged a premium bc it's a Hampton, but on arrival, you'll find it pretty dumpy. Frankly, the place is just plain filthy. The hallway rugs from end to end...stained beyond any acceptable level. The elevators trashed. The 2 rooms we had initially had major funky smell. A combination of mildew and some additive on the rug. Alternative rooms better. Beds were comfy and baths okay. There are lots of choices in TC, so absolutely no reason to return here.

Yelp
If it was possible to give 0 stars, I would. I wish I'd gone online and read the reviews before booking, because our stay was a NIGHTMARE. This hotel is advertised as pet friendly, yet when my husband and I travelled with our 3 dogs (2 of which are documented ESA's), the staff was rude, degrading, and I flat out caught them badmouthing us, saying how "they probably printed it it from offline". When I confronted both of them (Sue and Nancy), and told them I would GLADLY show them our medical provider and mental health provider notes, they fed me garbage in an attempt to distract from the fact that they were badmouthing my husband and I and got caught doing it. They additionally tried to reprimand my husband for taking one of our dogs into the breakfast nook (which we did not, because they have signs requesting that pets not be near the food areas and we can read). We were supposed to stay for 3 nights, but left after 2. We were called and informed that there'd been several complaints about our dogs barking and how this was bothering other guests and staff members. And while yes, our dogs did bark at times (they are dogs...it's a strange new environment, there were a lot of new and loud sounds) it was also poor planning on the scheduling for the hotel. Who in their right minds puts 2 rooms right next to each other with both rooms having dogs? Aside from the main issue, I honestly expected more from a Hampton Inn and for the price we paid. The rooms are ridiculously small, our bed felt like concrete to sleep on, the TV didn't work half the time, the doors to the bathroom are these weird barn-door type things that don't lock, and our shower did not seem to be put in correctly because it made awful creaking sounds. The location is not the greatest traffic wise (good luck trying to exit left out of their lot). My husband and I are DISGUSTED with the way the staff handled this and treated us. I was told they'll be refunding our 3rd night, but we'll see if that happens. I can imagine they'll attempt to make an excuse about not refunding or coming up with an absurd "service charge" out of spite. Very dissatisfied with our service here. I will be making additional complains to the site manager, the better business bureau, and whatever higher up there is for Hampton Inns.

Yelp
Recently updated property. Clean. Available staff. Tub drain was clogged. By the time I finished my shower, the water was ankle deep.a Across a busy street from a small park w/playground. Drive to town for decent restaurants.

Yelp
Good location. Room was good too. Staff was nice. I will say the breakfast is awful. It's not even worth eating it. Just put out cereal and pastries and oatmeal because the rest wasn't good. I do feel like since covid hotel breakfasts have take a serious dive.

Fred K.

Yelp
rooms are decent. However the restaurant and bar staff are horrible people. They attacked our party just hanging out in the lobby for drinking water and tea in a none clear bottle. threatened to evict us out of iyr rooms. They are nasty people and will never stay there again.

Amelia M.

Yelp
What a mistake! We read the reviews and stayed here anyway. We thought many of the bad reviews were prior to the renovations. The reviews seemed mixed so we thought we'd take the risk as we wanted to stay at a Hilton property. The rooms are so small that they can really only accommodate 1-2 people comfortably, our room wasn't quiet room (4th floor), one of the front desk reps is unprofessional and we paid over $380 per night. But we wouldn't stay here again even if it was $120 a night. The 4th floor room and hallway had a constant noise that must be due to the HVAC system. We immediately requested a room change, especially as we were staying 2 nights. The request was refused with no explanation or other options being offered (no maintenance visit). During check-in we overheard another guest receiving a room change and that there were more expensive rooms available (must be in reserve so only the hotel staff can view not general Hilton reps). We questioned them on this, asked how much more the other rooms cost and they kept insisting no rooms - you'll know this staff member if you meet her. We opened a case with Hilton customer service as the hotel cannot ignore these complaints (but they can ignore bad online reviews). We heard from the Assistant Manager the next day. She listened then indicated that there were no other rooms, stated this staff member should have explained things and then offered candy from their lobby store (no room change, no maintenance, no points). Really, are they kidding me? And the General Manager never followed up to ensure we were happy with our stay. The room is so small that the bathroom and closet doors are sliding doors because there isn't enough room to have a swing door. The bathroom doors do not fully close shut (see photo). The walls are paper thin so we could hear our neighbors laughing. As a result, if you are unfortunate enough to be next to a room with a barking dog - it's going to be a long night for you. Very odd wall decorations - what's with the 3 multi-colored skis on the wall? The hot tub is completely cemented over (see photo). There is a complimentary breakfast that is pretty standard: scrambled egg/omelet, sausage link/patty, starch (French toast sticks, potatoes, etc.), waffles that you make yourself, oatmeal, bread to toast, muffins, yogurt, juice and coffee. We do have to say that the breakfast staff and housekeeping are very nice. It's a shame that some of their front desk colleagues are not. Note: do not expect any Diamond member upgrades here and while there are photos of a large room posted, the floor plans of all 4 floors do not indicate any larger rooms

Yelp
Spend the extra money and don't stay here. Seriously, whatever it costs. They put us in a room that smelled so strongly of smoke it was disturbing. In order to remediate the cigarette smoke, their resolution is literally Febreeze. The result was a perfume smoke filled room and it was intolerable. Instead of queen beds, they have terribly uncomfortable double beds. Our family was CRAMMED into this place. I woke up with a pinched nerve and my husband and kids sounded awful after inhaling smoke and chemicals all night long. The bathroom floor was wet and there was hair in the shower. The door is sliding and so loud, it will definitely wake you up if anyone goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The hot tub was out of service, and the pool was so crowded I'm assuming it had reached capacity. Oh, and the TV didn't work!! Literally the only good thing about this place, the cleaning lady. She was really sweet. Pros: cleaning lady Cons: everything else It was so bad we had to switch hotels and went to the Courtyard Marriott. They really thought nothing of what a huge inconvenience it was. So much hassle, but totally worth it. I can't tell you what a huge difference there was between these two hotels. At the Marriott Courtyard, it was smoke free, with fresh air, totally clean and spacious, with two queen beds. Completely different experience.

Yelp
They've redecorated! I stayed here almost every year from 2007-2019 for the Bayshore Half. Of course, we know what happened with travel in 2020. Booked a room this year because of an early flight and not wanting to drive from Petoskey pre-Dawn...you know, deer, possums, skunks crossing the road in the dark... Back to the room. Was delighted to see they've redecorated. I think it last happened 10-12 years ago when the scheme changed to brown and dusty green. My biggest issue before was the tiny bathroom with limited counter space. I stay in a lot of Hamptons so know that all the bathrooms weren't this small. Now it has a proper counter. Big tv. Appreciate a hotel room with drawers. The desk isn't as in the dark as it used to be. A fridge and a microwave! I used to leave restaurants in TC without leftovers because there was no fridge. I think you could request one but it didn't seem like there was one for each room or they'd put them in the room to start... I stay here regardless as a Hilton person but now the room improvements made it even better.

Yelp
Let me begin by saying I travel all the time. I am pretty easy going and am respectful of All people in the people business. Beware of this hotel and their staff. The total lack of professionalism and respect from the staff and manger was uncontainable.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Gotta go with the masses on this one and give it three stars. Let me star off by saying the staff was very polite and informative. The room was clean. That is where the compliments end, because Hilton continues to cut corners, creating a less than desirable experience for their guest. The Cloud 9 beds have been replaced with really uncomfortable, rock hard mattresses, the shower pressure was practically non-existent, and the breakfast boxes we were given were practically prison food. We have stayed here many times over the years, but this time might be the last. There are much better options in the area at this price point.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Positives: The staff is super nice and it's right on Lake Michigan. It's clean and the pool is well maintained. Not so great: The rooms are tiny, the breakfast choices are limited, the spa is closed (permanently), the second elevator is broken, the air conditioners are so loud they could wake up the dead, the refrigerators only work if you have the wall light switch on, not a great view of the lake.... The hotel is 35 years old. It's been remodeled but it is very outdated honestly. Can't believe this place is a Hilton. Feels more like a Days Inn or a Studio 6. Will NOT be returning here. Definitely not worth the price.
google avatar

Jeff N.

Yelp
Remodel is way overdue. Starts soon. Difficult to make a left turn out of the parking lot. Too much traffic. Noisy rooms near the front. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
This is a nice hotel. The recent update is great. Except for the bathrooms. All sanity left the room when they designed the bathrooms. The bath doors slide together and meet in the middle. Leaving a one inch gap. Which is nice so that everyone in the room can see the cirqur del soleil act it takes to reach the toilet paper while on the toilet. The roll is a 160° twist behind and to the side on the wall. My 12 yr. Old's applause from the room was appreciated if unexpected. Don't worry though, any acrobatic toilet falls will be cushioned by the pile of towels on the floor, which is the only place outside of the singular towel hook there is for wet towels to hang out. So in summary. Great place, not so great facilities.

Yelp
Hampton is a pretty basic chain and this location is the same. Directly across from the east bay and next to the state park, I really like the location. The smoke alarm in my room appears to have a few issues, but I'm sure it will be fixed soon. This location is clean, has a pool and the staff is friendly.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Edited after being in contact with manager: Overall this Hampton is a pretty typical one. It it being renovated which is pretty needed, but as usual it was clean and well kept on the inside. Unfortunately we had a dog barking all night which effected our ability to sleep before and early flight the next day. I didn't have time to deal with it in the morning before I left, but after hearing back from the Hampton team I am please with their response.
google avatar

Herbert E.

Yelp
'Ello chaps! Hampton Inn in Traverse is located along the main drag into TC along the lake. It's far better than a Best Western, but have to say this hotel falls short to standards off a typical Hampton Inn. The cleanliness of the room could have been much better. There was someone else's fried chicken left overs in the fridge, dust on the desk and furniture and the whole room just felt drabby. For the same price, could have probably gotten something in the same range closer to downtown and a little cleaner. Perhaps it was just a hit or miss kind of place and we happened to stay during a miss.
google avatar

Charlene Z.

Yelp
Should not be considered a Hilton property! Paid big bucks to stay here and we are loyal Hilton Diamond members. We Understand that things are abnormal during the virus but we expected clean. This place was not clean and staffed very poorly. Breakfast was not available nor was coffee, not even offered Water bottles upon check in. Overall would have been better off at the Best Western down the road!
google avatar

Dane G.

Yelp
This is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The breakfast is comparable to a five star restaurant. Their waffles should be called "wow-ffles." All of the bathrooms were excellent. Showers? More like "Wowers."' These bad boys will stay hot for hours. Overall, wow. So much wow. Just wow. 10/10 wows. My only complaint is the beach across the street. It's too noisy. There are children everywhere. They are stinky. Not wow. But I don't let those small beans ruin my time.
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
I stay at a ton of Hiltons, we decided to stay here to avoid the higher rates near the beach. That was a mistake. Very old decor, cramped spaces, the entire hotel felt a little dirty. I won't stay here again, which is unfortunate. The breakfast bar is worth missing, the ladies working the bar were complaining the entire time and the food was pretty terrible. Poor views of the bay. Location is dangerous, pulling out of the drive, you have to cross traffic to get anywhere. Walking across the crosswalks people would honk at you...even tho we had the right of way!
google avatar

Temo C.

Yelp
I find it hard to believe this hotel is a Hampton Inn. The rooms are small, carpet stained, tile grout is damaged, and floor is uneven(water damage?)in the bathroom. Breakfast is typical waffles, eggs, sausage and various morning drinks. The room service staff skipped our room and we called the front desk after 4 pm. They advised that housecleaning is not available and offered to bring towels. Their was no apology from staff. Not worth the price I paid for our summer trip. The hotel gets 2 stars for the location.

Collene W.

Yelp
The exterior of the hotel is under construction. The interior of the hotel will soon be remolded which is good because it is in desperate need. The bed and bedding was clean and comfortable. We stayed in room 424 and we had a problem with gnats. They were in bathroom and the sleeping area. I informed housekeeping and they were aware of the problem and the lady said they had some spray and would vacuum. They next morning we had the same problem in the bathroom. I informed housekeeping again and she said they are having problems on the 3rd and 4th floors. I went down and talk to the front desk and they did not seem worried about the problem. I was very disappointed in her lack of concern. Bugs in a hotel is not a good thing. Housekeeping was more concerned than the front desk. Long story short if you are staying here soon don't stay on the 3rd or 4th floor. Disappointed in the front desk.
google avatar

Sarit H.

Yelp
While you may think this is a standard Hampton Inn, the quality here is below others. The rooms are very small with a desk that is narrow so if you come for work you will be better off doing it in the lobby. The heater makes a clicking noise all the time so sleep was rough for me. Not much counter space in the bathroom but not awful. The decor is outdated and the hotel itself does not feel clean. Would avoid if you can.

Johanna B.

Yelp
Worst Hampton I've stayed in. Very small room. The bathroom doors are the stupidest design I've ever seen. The bathroom doors do not close. They are two sliding barn style doors and always have a gap no matter what. It's as if the doors are wide open even when "closed." Very uncomfortable when traveling with others. No breakfast even though we were told there would be breakfast grab bags. Uncomfortable, small beds. No robes, completely out of complimentary toothbrushes and toothbrushes you can buy. Staff didn't really care about any concerns.

Brian E.

Yelp
Worst Hilton property I have every stayed at. Total construction zone and they don't stop until after 10pm at night. They did not disclose the property was under construction until we found out first hand.
google avatar

Parisa S.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay! Will definitely come again when in Traverse City. ROOM: Beds were comfortable, shower was great, everything was clean. Very nice. STAFF: Very friendly. Helped us smoothly check in, get shuttle service, and late night food.
google avatar

Nadia M.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. I'm a diamond member and disappointed they have a hard time with early check in requests. This location doesn't allow you to check in until 4pm, which is pretty late for check ins. The first time was awful. Our room still wasn't ready at check in time. We got into a room at 5, and our dinner and evening was all pushed back and ruined. We couldnt get into our room because the door was broken. finally got into one and it was dirty, with dirt marks and sand on the side tables, sink and bathtub. We got into a third room finally! The staff seemed miserable. When I complained I said it's too late to find somewhere else, and without a response a gentle picked up the phone and made a call, then said he just called Best Western and I could go there. That took me back. Instead of trying to make it right I felt dismissed. They did refund us a night, but it didn't even matter, we just needed comfort. The next couple times was better, there was a different and more pleasant staff. Unfortunately, with being diamond members this is the only location within the Hampton family in the area.
google avatar

Renee M.

Yelp
It's adequate. Clean and bed is comfy. Startling how the breakfast food is so awful. Zero options for the healthy-minded person. Processed foods, commercial-grade produce and fishy tasting awful eggs, sugared juices & yogurts. It's 1985 here. So, stay here, do not eat here!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Don't stay here. It's under construction. Very dirty. Rooms are bad. Shower doors broken. Heater smells when it runs. Construction workers started at 7:20 am on a Saturday. Pounding, cutting, it was terrible. Sunday morning construction started at 8:20 after they drive up and a bunch of noise at 7:45. I called front desk on Saturday to let them know their Brand, Hilton, is being punished. When we checked out the App said I had to go to the front desk to complete the check out. The women at the front said it was nothing, it doesn't work. So sad to use an answer of "It doesn't work" for your job...
google avatar

Jeffrey J.

Yelp
The reason for my one star is customer service. Or lack there of. We showed up early in hopes to use the pool between hockey games and we were told if the room was not ready we could not check in and if we could not check in we could not use the pool. Asked if we could do early check in and was told that is only available for diamond members. Asked what time is normal check in and was told 4:00. The time is currently 2:30. So they would not accommodate a mother with 2 younger children an 1 1/2 early. Or just give us a key to use the pool for and hr and then check in. It's the little things that make a moms trip out of town with young kids that much easier. And this hotel did not make the effort.

Yelp
Congrats to Traverse City Hampton Inn. This has to be the shittiest Hampton I have stayed, and have been a Diamond/Gold member for 10 years. I used points this stay, and am now convinced that they give you the worst room in the building. 1. Toilet was clogged when we walked in the room. 2. No Fridge 3. Room so small you have to go into the hall to turn around... seriously, it was way smaller than I ever have seen. 4. Paper thin walls, and windows. I was on the third floor seat from the road, and it sounded like I was in the middle of the highway. 5. Hair on the floor, stains on the carpet. And last but not least: 6. Beds shaped like a hard taco " U ". Looking for a hotel, and think you found one... KEEP LOOKING! They did have construction going on outside, and it needs it, but that doesn't have anything to do with this. It needs a bulldozer and rebuild. Also, they value this stay at $300/night or 50,000 points/night. Last time you will see me here, and really thinking about changing loyalty brands to IHG.
google avatar

D N.

Yelp
As I walked into the center of the hotel, it just looked old and needed some care. My room had an ordor close to sweaty arm pits. This hotel will start renovations soon. So if you don't want to be caught up in construction you might want to avoid here for a year.

Yelp
Clean, recently updated, and located right across the water, this is a solid choice for your stay in TC. Not too bad of a drive to downtown as others have noted, and there really aren't great options in town anyway (yet). The breakfast was good, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, fruit, etc, but is crowded. And people - please pick up after yourself a little - they don't have a huge staff and we don't appreciate your forks and food all over the floor/table after you are done. Note that this is a Hilton owned chain if you are part of the HHonors program. A/C cranked, much appreciated in July. I didn't appreciate the vacuum going off at 9AM, and the lot was pretty full requiring us to park in the back and walk a ways. Shower curtain is too short and caused water to go all over the floor. A fairly challenging left turn to go downtown out of the property (hint: use the central turn lane)

Shayleena B.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I have ever seen. Stained carpets, damaged walls, etc. Breakfast people even burn toast. High prices for something not even worth it. Room isn't too bad, but I believe it should be priced more like a Motel 6 or Super 8... Management sucks and no one seems to know how to run a business here. Honestly, I'd rather stay anywhere but here which isn't hard to do as US 31 has TONS of hotels.
google avatar

Ashlina M.

Yelp
The hotel was nice and the location was prime. We were a quick drive from downtown and right across the street from a beach. The people were very friendly and room service came everyday asking us if we needed anything. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the beds were so uncomfortable. I woke up every morning so stiff and sore!

Yelp
As a Hilton honors member for years, I've stayed in my fair share of Hampton inns, much less full service Hiltons. The building was the standard from 20 years ago. They've tried to update it, but the current furniture in the rooms is bigger, so the rooms feel smaller. Since these are franchise hotels the owners here are very cheap, doing just the bare minimum to keep Hilton happy (not necessarily the guests). No fridge or microwave in the room for starters. The bathroom only has minimal supplies as well. Many Hamptons will give you a shower cap, makeup removal pads, mouthwash and such, not here! Breakfast once again is the barest of essential items, nothing more than what they have to offer...I've seen some lavish spears in Hamptons... The building itself is tired and need of a good nights sleep. Little things are being missed. I stayed on a Wednesday night, the previous Saturday/Sunday night we had the day light saving time change. The clock in my room still hadn't been updated.....three nights later. This being the only Hilton propriety in the Grand Traverse area, makes it an easy pick for many because they want to use or get their honors points....try a local hotel for a change.

Yelp
It's a hotel not much I can say about it, I wish there was a mini fridge and microwave in our room. Room was clean, friendly staff, they had a small workout room, and pool. The breakfast was decent, coffee and OJ was watery.

Yelp
First, location is great!! Right across from a part and beach. 5 minutes away from downtown shopping 30 minutes from Mission point lighthouse. Second staff is extremely nice, they were very friendly with me and especially my kids. They gave very good recommendations for dinner and things to do with the family. The lady who works in the evening is very nice. The hotel is very clean and updated. The pool and hot tub are very clean and well maintained. The rooms are well maintained and clean. Coffee and tea in the lobby all day. Lots of outside doors around the parking lot making it a short walk from any parking spot to get inside.

Yelp
Earning Hilton triple points was not even worth coming to this specific location. Outside of hotel is nice. Great view across the street. Lake Michigan is beautiful. Checking in: two people worked on locating my reservation which was made weeks in advance. I even told them I called the hotel directly to book. I also showed them my reservation confirmation. Finally, they found me but for some reason had to cancel and rebook my stay. The manager and an employee were trash talking the employee whom I made the reservations with. Then the female employee thought she was doing me a favor by telling me they gave me a lower rate. Ummmm....it was the same exact rate as I had before. Our room: I reserved two queen beds. I walked in with all of our stuff (there is a lot one needs when traveling with a baby) only to notice one king bed. Ugh! I called the front desk and she said to come down right away. My mother and baby stayed in the too as I was it about to lug all of our belongings back and forth. Front desk lady, France, blamed her boss for setting me up with the wrong room but she was the one working on it the whole time. We get a new room. Making the trek back up to old room when mom walks out angry. France booked another couple in the same room. They walked in as mom was walking out....rushed by the employee. New room: door is so heavy and doesn't open all of the way. Carpet is nasty. Didn't let my baby walk or crawl on that nastiness. AC blows warm air at 70 degrees. Basic amenities not included. Bathroom had loose tiles. You can hear them moving as soon as you walk in. Sheets are not washed with every new check in as advertised. There was blood on the sheets as soon as I pulled back the covers. Duvets were even more gross. Free breakfast daily: options are minimal. Hoards of people for eggs and toast. We passed up the free breakfast every day we were there. Employees: I don't know what kind of schedule they work on but they were never around. Specifically one girl was constantly going out to her car to smoke and drink her Starbucks bottle of whatever. Pool: the only good thing I could say about this place is that it had a pool and it was not crowded. I really am annoyed with how crappy this hotel turned out to be.

Yelp
This Hampton Inn is a good one. They have it updated to new decorations, it has a clean pool and hot tub (indoors), the rooms are in great shape and the breakfasts have a good variety of food. We stayed here for holiday travel when skiing at Schuss Mountain. This hotel is conveniently located on the main Traverse City drag. The lobby is clean and updated decor which feels inviting. The clerk at the check in desk was helpful and got our room keys quickly. We were on the 2nd floor. Our room had two queen beds and a decent amount of space for four people. One thing they can improve is the heater; it blew cold air all night, even when we had it set on 74! The breakfast has waffles, OJ, apple juice, cereal, eggs, sausage, and bakery items. We may stay here again in the future.

Yelp
Had an excellent experience. Military Discount the room was small but we didn't need a lot of space They were able to accommodate a later check out time the desk staff was extremely friendly and professional

Yelp
It's obvious they recently remodeled the rooms, but the way they remodeled it as well as the furniture they used makes the rooms seem much, much smaller. Everything was very nice though, clean and updated. The bed was probably the comfiest hotel bed I had ever slept on. I took away a star because their breakfast area was SO small and congested. They really need to update that and add on or something. The way it was set up made you have to stumble over other guests. Plus, they desperately need another waffle maker. I had to wait in line for 20 minutes! Once out in the dining area, most, if not all tables were filthy. They need someone out there wiping down tables every chance they can. Would stay here again as it was a very nice and clean hotel, just probably wouldn't eat breakfast here.

Yelp
I'm here for 3-5 days of the month, every month! It's my little home away from home!

Yelp
Hampton Inns are the first accommodations my wife and I consider when traveling because we can always count on them to be clean and comfortable at a reasonable price - usually. We stayed at the Traverse City Hampton Inn and were very disappointed - it is shabby and unkempt. The garbage containers by the exit were overflowing and garbage had been placed on the ground around it. The rugs in the halls were badly stained in multiple areas, the decorative graphic on the inside of one elevator door had been ripped off, the wall plate for the TV cable was cracked and half missing, and our room was the smallest I can ever remember for a Hampton Inn (about 10x13) - the room is supposedly handicap accessible, but there is barely enough room for a non-handicapped person to maneuver and the tub is certainly not accessible. To say that we are disappointed would be an understatement - this is not what we expect when we reserve a room at Hampton.

Yelp
Rooms have been remodeled and have great amenities. It's very comfortable and they did a great job with small details. Love the hotel and the staff have always been incredibly friendly and welcoming. I stay here every time. It's a great value and a great location.

Yelp
Probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at on the beach in Traverse City. Everything is new. The rooms are small but have very nice amenities. Like everything in Traverse, it is overpriced in the summer. Excellent breakfast. They do not allow pets, which is a drawback to us.

Yelp
We are Hilton members and stay at Hilton hotels (and Hampton Inns, specifically) frequently when traveling. This was the worst experience we've had at a Hampton. The hotel was dirty. The location isn't great for the asking price. The staff was friendly enough, but the rooms (two. Our first had air conditioning troubles, a faulty bathroom fan and bathroom light) didn't feel clean, and they were very small. Certainly, part of the latter is that we really needed a suite and there weren't any available. Lastly, it was under construction, much needed, but that should be disclosed at time of booking. Our first room's window was covered in plastic wrap due to this. Overall, it wasn't a great experience. We will visit Traverse City again, but we won't stay here.

Yelp
We were very disappointed with the Hampton here. The room was extremely cramped and lacked basic amenities like a safe or a mini fridge. When we inquired about a fridge for food for our toddler, we were told they had run out of them. The bathroom was again tiny and in need of updating. Also, The pool water smelled as if it hadn't been properly treated. Overall, we wouldn't consider staying here again. However, the staff were friendly and kind.

Yelp
Check in: was not that busy but staff seemed impatient with my questions. did not leave me a good first impression. parking was limited as 3/4th of the lot was barricaded due to pavement work. would have appreciated knowing this when I was making my reservations so I know what to expect. Stay: Rooms were very nice. bathroom nicely updated. ac/heater were quiet. 32" flat screen was nice. Hallways and elevators were very nice. Breakfast: Overall good. Scrambled eggs and steak tasted greasy. Suggestions: no matter how hectic it is, staff do not need to appear impatient. after all thats why they call it hospitality industry. egg substitute would have been nice with breakfast. I would have rated 5 stars if not for the above observations.
