Handels Ice Cream - Review - Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Handel’s Ice Cream is good enough to justify braving the chaos of the Trader Joe’s Midtown parking lot. The ice cream here is cloud-soft, creamy, and sweet. The Ohio-based ice cream chain offers more than 100 flavors (what’s available at any given time varies, but it’s usually around 30). Favorites include blueberry cheesecake chunk and caramel pretzel crunch, and we especially like the coconut caramel delight. This is the kind of place where you can get weird with your order and still walk away happy. But try not to spend too long debating if banana cream pie ice cream topped with Nerds candies and peanut buttery syrup works for you. There's usually a line here, which goes a little too slowly since customers are paralyzed with choices. photo credit: Amy Sinclair" - Jacinta Howard

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream - Review - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"This national chain has been serving ice cream since 1945. They're offering all of their signature flavors like pistachio and butter pecan at their first Georgia location in Midtown. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

As someone who grew up with Handel’s back in Youngstown, Ohio, seeing one in Atlanta feels like a sweet slice of home—especially in such a perfect location right off the Beltline. This visit, I tried the new Not Your Average Dough flavor, and it’s absolutely perfect—rich and creamy, packed with generous chunks of cookie dough, and swirled with an irresistible salted pretzel ripple. Please keep this flavor forever! The service was friendly, and my waffle cone was a generous size—just the way Handel’s has always done it. Best of luck with this location, and I truly hope to see more Handel’s shops pop up around Atlanta in the future.

Google
Pretty decent ice cream selection right off the beltline near Piedmont Park. My one complaint is that they only have two dairy free vegan options. Would love to see more dairy free options, especially non-fruit ones. It’s very hard to find dairy free creamy options but of the two flavors they had, a vegan pomegranate and a vegan mango sorbet, the mango one was pretty good. Price point on par with typical shop like this - $6.15 for 3.5/4 scoops (medium size)

I am resubmitting my review after my second visit. I have attached photos of 1st visit and second visit and can tell my issue was addressed. I wanted to say thank you for making my Thanksgiving extra thankful, and big shout out to the staff from evening of Nov.27th!! My quarts were packed to the top and pecans were plentiful!! I had some pints and the 4 scoop sampler and was pleased! This is really the best ice cream hands down!!! Can’t wait for my next trip!

ICE CREAM IS 10/10! one of the best i have ever tried! Darrel (employee) helped me out choose some ice creams for me and he was very polite and helped me make the correct decision! there’s a lot of flavors to choose from, but I had strawberry cheesecake and a banana pudding and they were just out of this world! we came to Atlanta for a little and super happy made this decision to come out here and try HANDELS ICECREAM!!!! If you’re in Atlanta, make sure you give it a try! WILL BE BACK!

Anajiah was very welcoming and asked me questions as she could tell I was a new customer. I explained my lactose intolerance and she encouraged me to try pomegranate and it’s sooo good ! I would have not tried it without her influence!!

Yelp
Yum! Handel's is located by trader joe's in midtown and the lot in the back has free parking for 2 hours so that's pretty easy and nice! Also can drop by if you're on the beltline. As the weather warms up expect some wait times in the evening but it moves fast! There were 4 parties ahead of us in line and it took us only 5 mins before we ordered and got our ice cream! I've tried a few flavors and they have been really good and high quality. Service is nice as well!

Yelp
Visited Handel's this weekend in absolutely freezing weather, because, let's face it--there's no such thing as "too cold for ice cream." Apparently, I wasn't the only one with this philosophy, as the outdoor-only seating area had a steady crowd of brave dessert lovers. First impressions: while I was sad to see Bruster's go, Handel's feels like a worthy replacement. The flavors are reminiscent of Bruster's, but one key difference? The sizing. I ordered a small dip cone, expecting something modest, and was handed a small mountain of five scoops (but I could only pick one flavor--bit of a plot twist there). Ambiance-wise, the lack of indoor seating might have been charming in warmer months, but standing outside in subzero vibes made me question my life choices for about 0.2 seconds--then I took a bite, and all was forgiven. Service was friendly and efficient, so no complaints there. But maybe next time, let me mix up my scoops? Because five of the same flavor feels like a commitment I wasn't ready for.

Yelp
My better half and I visited this ice cream shop today at the Midtown Promenade during their grand opening. I read an article about Handel's Homemade Ice Cream in Atlanta Magazine. The article revealed that each batch of Handel's ice cream is made fresh daily, using Alice Handel's original methods and recipes. There are 48 flavors available daily and more than 140 flavors that rotate seasonally. They have won numerous accolades about their ice cream including being named #1 Ice Cream on the Planet by National Geographic and one of the Top 10 Best Ice Cream Businesses by USA Today, This is their first store in Georgia with two more planned to open in Cumming and Buckhead soon. This store is located next to a Trader Joe's. They rebuilt this ice cream store in a closed Bruster's location. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream corporate management staff was on location for this grand opening. The staff were super friendly and enthusiastic about their ice cream products. Their enthusiasm was contagious because they have a fantastic tasting ice cream. You place your order at a walk-up window and can select from one of the delicious 48 flavors available each day. I had a small French Silk Pie and my better half tried the Chocolate Pecan. Both of our ice creams were creamy and delicious. We will definitely return for more of their delicious ice cream.

Yelp
I've been eyeing this place every time I went to Trader Joe's for a while. They had their grand opening on 11/14/24! They had a live DJ and a fun set up in the back. Super fun! Located right by Trader Joe's, plenty of parking by Trader Joe's and behind the building also. Best part was that it is not overly sweet!!! Super creamy and high quality, and fairly priced $7 for a 2 flavor medium waffle cone and $8 for a good size milkshake. Both came with 2 flavors. -caramel pretzel. Chucks of chocolate covered pretzels. Super milky caramel ice cream -butter pecan. Nice chucks of pecans. So smooth and not too sweet. -horchata. Authentic flavor!! So good -praline. Exactly what you think it would be, also had chucks of pralines inside Overall, excellent addition to the community and looking forward to being a regular!

Yelp
This may be my new favorite ice cream place in Atlanta. For having such warm weather Atlanta is really lacking quality ice cream options. Yes this is a chain but it's delicious. It took over the old Brusters stand so you order at the counter and eat outside. There are so many flavors. The staff was super nice and let us sample as well. There's some unique but not too weird and all decliuosu. Can't wait to go back and try more and hope they expand a bit more too here.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about Handel's. I had a special order made for a Birthday Party and dealing with everyone from the workers, the manager and the Regional Manager was a joy. Not only was it a great experience but the Ice Cream is unbelievable! You will not find any better quality Ice Cream in Atlanta! Thank you Latoya, Zac and Holly. You guys are the best!!!!!

Yelp
This is the first Handel's location in GA! I was so shook to see how many flavors they offer daily! I got their taro, butter pecan, and buckeye ice cream. It's a great location too, right next to Trader Joes in Midtown!

Yelp
I was born and raised in the Youngstown area. I am ecstatic that Handel's has finally come to Atlanta. I had the chocolate pecan-my favorite! It was absolutely delicious, just as I remembered as a kid growing up. Atlanta is in for a real treat at Handel's.
