Handels Homemade Ice Cream

I really enjoyed what Handel's Homemade Ice Cream brings to the. Canyon Crest area and that is some fluffy, delicious ice cream. While they are located next to Rite Aid, where they sell ice cream; as well as Ralph’s, where you can purchase ice cream, and a mom and pop shop that sells ice cream, the quality is just superior to the other ice cream offerings in this town center. What makes Handel’s different is also by their physical shop: it’s a walk-up shop like walking up to the ice cream truck! Because I’m new to Handel’s, I shared one of their 4-scoop samplers and got to taste 2 items I really liked: Coconut Pineapple and Brownie Dough. Oh the Blueberry Crumble is really good too! Overall, I’m happy to have a new ice cream shop in Riverside. The workers have been friendly and knowledgeable. And I like the convenience of a walk-up ice cream window!

First time here and sooo delicious! The 4 scoop sampler is such a great deal. Every single scoop is so creamy and delicious. I am an ice cream connoisseur, and this may be my favorite place! The employee was so nice and helpful. I will definitely return here for Ice cream 🍦

If a long line at 9 pm doesn't tell you something, I don't know what will! Handel's is clearly a popular spot, and for good reason. The line moved surprisingly fast, and we were soon indulging in some fantastic ice cream. We tried several flavors, and while all were good, the birthday cake was the star of the show. It was the perfect level of sweetness, with a rich, delicious flavor. My friend was equally impressed with the Rocky Road, and highly recommends it. Handel's is a must-try – just be prepared to wait in line, but trust me, it's worth it!

Recommend the 4 scoop sampler You get 4 different scoops of ice cream flavors for $7.50. When the line is very long I don't wait, just come back another time 🤷‍♀️ no ice cream is worth waiting over an hr in line. ⚠️ Pick your flavors while waiting in line instead at the window to speed up the process for everyone is appreciated.

Upon arrival at this location on a Sunday evening, I encountered a surprisingly long queue, though the service was relatively efficient. The establishment offers a wide selection of ice cream at reasonable prices. However, the lack of seating is a drawback. Furthermore, a limitation of the service is that ice cream cones must contain only one flavor unless a sampler is purchased.

Delicious but very inconsistent in their scoops, employees would rather chat up with each other than worry about fast service. I ordered 2 of the 4 scoop samplers and the weight difference alone is unbelievable.

It's Friday night and there's only 2 employees working the place? One employee is busting her ass to take care of all the customers waiting in line and the other guy, is taking care of online orders but is moving at a snails pace and barely lifting a finger to help his coworker out. The manager who scheduled this shift honestly needs to be written up and coached because how could they let a popular ice cream establishment that's near a bar and a grocery store with only 2 employees on a Friday night?? like come on seriously that is absolutely ridiculous how management allowed this store to be this short staffed. Tips better not be shared because the girl who was serving the in person line was working so hard to get everyone's orders completed in a timely manner where the other guy just watched her outperform him tenfold. My ice cream was delicious don't get me wrong, but waiting a half hour because management can't properly staff on a Friday night is unacceptable.

Delicious ice cream! Every flavor we tried was excellent. Large waffle bowl is awesome and made into a cute little tower. A bit of a wait with only one window open, but worth the wait. This is only a walk up window, there is no interior area for customers or seating.

I don't know why it took me so long to find this location! I'm thrilled it's near where I live. My go to order is a small salty caramel truffle in a waffle bowl *chefs kiss* The line moves relatively quickly so you don't need to wait long for your tasty treat. They also offer treats for your furry friend and offer vegan options. Highly recommend if you like freshly made ice cream.

Amazing flavors! Try the samples. You get 4 scoops and it can fill a family! They were so helpful when my boys had questions on their flavors they wanted to get! It's outside and not a lot of seating but we didn't have a problem for our group. We will be back

I've had Handel's in LB and Carlsbad and the Riverside location offers the same quality. I got the 4 scoop sampler with Blue Monster, Watermelon Ice, Monkey Business, and Taro. The Taro was rich, creamy, and definitely my favorite. The Handel Pop was small and overpriced, so I'll skip that next time.

Good ice cream spot in the canyon crest shopping center. I usually get their milkshake but on this occasion had their ice cream sandwich. The sandwich was pretty good, though I wish the Oreo/sandwich was more of a soft cookie rather than a hard Oreo. Service was quick and friendly! Just wish they had some outdoor seating closer to the store.

I am obsessed with the cookie monster ice cream! It has large chunks of oreos and cookie dough. Fun fact, I feel like they are not shy with their serving scoops which is amazing. This is only the small size of the ice cream. They add just a little bit more if you order a waffle cone instead of a dish or birthday cake cone . The customer service is always nice. The surrounding area is perfect as there are benches and trees all over the plaza to enjoy the dessert. Lines are not as long as they used to be when they first opened, but when it does get busy they are still quick with their service!

A great small ice cream shop in the Canyon Crest shopping center the employees are kind and helpful and REALLY PATIENT. The ice-cream is good and they have a plethora of flavors you're sure to find something you like! And the prices are reasonable . 9/10 overall.

Food: Ice cream's good - nice and cold, creamy, and they give you a decent portion. Definitely hits the spot if you're craving something sweet. There's a good variety, so you can find something you'll like. Service: The service was fast and friendly. You just walk up to the window, place your order, and they get it to you without much wait. They keep things moving, so even if there's a line, it doesn't take forever. Ambiance: No seating here, so it's more of a line-up, grab, and go kind of place. The inside has a bright, cozy look, and the area around it is cute. I went at night, and even though there was a line, it moved along at a good pace. Nice, easy spot to stop by if you're looking for a simple ice cream treat without a lot of fuss.

This is my second time at this place and when I was handed my ice cream I reached for my spoon to take a bite and I quickly noticed 2 small hairs on my ice cream! I immediately told the worker who was helping me. She offered to remake it but no refund. Super disappointed because I know this is a town favorite, however I won't be returning.

Love the ice cream here! It's pretty gosh darn yummy. So happy to learn they opened one up right by me! I forgot how good the mint and chip ice cream is!

This place is the best ice cream spot in canyon crest. Everything I have tried is really good. My new favorite thing I tried was the orange dream cream shake!

30 min wait on Sunday afternoon with a super long line, but that's should be expected for this place. I got there variety of for tray. It's perfect for trying different flavors, but I do recommend sharing. If you have a smaller appetite. It can be hard to finish. They do give you really good size scoops. It's not a restaurant that you can go and sit. I do wish they had a bench or something on the outside. Not so much for myself to sit, but the older people that we were standing in line could've used a chair. It's located in a beautiful parking with lots of parking. Definitely a nice place to have an ice cream and walk around.

Visited on the grand opening to try and get the coveted annual pass for the first 100 people. When I arrived 3 hours before opening the line was wrapped around the building with these brave souls enduring the night on the sidewalk. Tents, sleeping bags, camping chairs and pjs. It reminded me of the old black Friday shopping traditions. I counted the attendees and I would not make the cut. I returned another day and walked right up to order. Several walk up windows and one designated for food delivery services. Though they could use a few etiquette adjustments the service was prompt and the ice cream was tasty. So many flavors to choose from it may take a few visits to know which are the favorites. Definitely going for the sample pack next time. I wanna try all the flavors. The varieties drew me in. On this visit tried the peanut butter parfait. Thin slices of peanut butter sheets melt in your mouth giving that creamy texture against the cool brisk ice cream. Though the texture of the ice cream was a bit icy rather than creamy, it was still yum. I would give it another try. Located at the Canyon Crest Plaza right next to Rite Aid on the south side entrance.

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream has quickly become one of our family's favorite summer stops! Rain or shine' the parlor offers a wide variety of delicious flavors, and even offers taste samples to try new flavors! Each time my family and I have visited the stand' staff has been friendly, courteous, and helpful! Prices are comparable or slightly lower than other familiar ice cream shops (e.g) Cold Stone, Afters etc.; however, the serving portions and quality are certainly worth every penny! Amongst my favorite flavors are Butter Pecan & Black Cherry. While our only disappointment is that the ice cream stand only has a walk up window (*Canyon Crest Location) and does not have seating for guests to enjoy their ice cream, our family still loves the convenience of the stand being minutes from home, centrally located in the Canyon Crest Center and we thoroughly enjoy the nostalgic experience of getting hand-scooped cones to indulge in at a nearby park! Be sure to stop by, jump in line and Enjoy!

How the heck did y'all put chocolate chips in the cotton candy icecream?? Service is quick but like they seriously screwed up the recipe and kept on riding I guess?? This is a food allergy nightmare

All of their fresh, house made, ice creams have a quality and flavor above and beyond any others. You can taste the difference! I was a little disappointed that this new location is walk up windows only. Luckily for us, it's not too far from home and, if you walk around, this plaza does have more benches and tables in other areas too. When we walked up, there was only one window was open and only a few people in front of us. Even on a Tuesday afternoon tho, the line grew quickly. They were on top of it, and promptly opened up more windows to get the crown moving. There were a lot of employees doing their best to help everyone out, and all of them were really friendly too. As a lover of Handles ice cream already, I grabbed a 4 pack of some flavors I'd yet to try, a couple of waffle cones for the kids (which, fyi if you get any of the dipped waffle cones, they are naturally large!), and we were on our way. As always, we loved ALL of them! This round we went with: Banana Cream Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Horchata, Graham Central Station, Coffee Chocolate Chip and Lemon Bar Can't wait to come back and try more!

Ok everyone is talking about this ice cream shop called Hansel's! Yup they are correct it's very good ice cream with some flavors that you would not see elsewhere! You don't go in its window service only! If you haven't tried this place you're missing out on some really good ice cream!

The best ice cream ever and great smiling service. We come probably once a week and it feels so fresh that we don't feel bad about it lol.

I bookmarked the one in Rancho, but never made it to that location. i was happy to see one open up in Riverside. The first time I discovered it, the line was wrapped around the building, so I didn't try it that day. Tried another day and walked right up to the window. The ice cream is delicious and creamy, but I will say, for the price, the portions are small. Very much like a child size scoop, in comparison to a regular size scoop. But I guess it's not too big of an issue for me, I mean.....I came back! So I must like something. I think the walkup window is a good concept, cause who wants to be cleaning up spilled/melted ice cream messes all day, that they didn't create.

Came to try Handel's homemade ice cream for the first time. They have a variety of flavors to offer, all say they are handmade fresh daily. They carry various options, from waffle cones, dipped cones, waffle bowls, and containers to eat from. The amount of flavors they have are endless, you cannot just pick one. They do offer the sampler so that you can get various to try. The service was excellent, the girl at the window was very helpful and polite. Your ice cream is ready within minutes. It tends to get a bit loud since the place is almost always packed because there is no indoor seating available and they play outside music while you stand in line. The ice cream was a bit too soft for my liking, if you don't eat it fast it'll melt on a hot day. Other than that, their ice cream is really good

This is a great place however, why don't they offer or rotate more flavors like some of the other locations? Chocolate Almond and Black Walnut are great. They haven't been at this location since the opening. Please bring them back.

I got a medium dish with chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip. There was nothing special that stood out to me. The serving size was small. My daughter received the small cone and even hers was bigger than my medium. The service was good and the line moved fairly quick (came here on a Thursday afternoon). I gave 4 stars because my family actually did enjoy the unique flavors they offered which was strawberry cheesecake chunk, chocolate pecan, and chocolate brownie peanut butter. I'll try another flavor next time.

After seeing all the posts and signs around we were finally able to stop by and try this place out. As ice cream lovers, we were very impressed with the quality of the ice cream. It's not super icy like other places and it is really creamy (our favorite). The line was a little long and was about 15 minutes before we reached the window to order, but with such high promotion that was pretty much expected (they have been pretty busy since they opened). As for actually getting our ice cream, they were pretty quick and got the ice cream out to us in a timely manner. The service windows were also all in use and the employees did a great job at making it efficient! We are definitely coming back here! And I DEFINITELY recommend!!!!

Just tried this location and the hot fudge brownie sundae was very good. Got it with Pistachio and Butter Pecan. I was told it comes with 3.5 scoops of ice cream, which is odd, why not 4 whole scoops? How do they even do a half scoop? Also, I could only choose 2 flavors, which is also odd, because with 3.5 scoops, they can do 4 different flavors (or at least 3). Anyway, the ice cream was very good with lots of nuts in it. The brownie was fresh, warm, soft and chewy and the hot fudge was perfect, just wish they put more of it on my sundae. No indoor seating and very few outdoors seats. You will need to walk to another section of the shopping center to find tables/benches. Lots of free parking though. Good service.

If you are looking for a sweet treat as a diabetic or prefer no sugar, this is not the place for you. They offer NO sugar free options, nor a sugar/fat free option. The corporate website states they do offer these options. So sorry for all of you that need sugar free!!

We waited about 30 min before we go to the window + our order (yes I timed it) Overall the ice cream was really good. I got the sampler & unfortunately the employee didn't get all the flavors (they gave me double) which is ok. I really wanted to try the chocolate pecan but next time. 1. The Snix is delicious 4/5 2. The pistachio was my absolute favorite and I will get that alone 5/5 3. The flavor I was looking forward to was the Chocolate chip & it was ok. 3/5 & I don't think I'd get that one again The employees were really nice and were super quick.

Store is supposed to open at 11am. I brought my little nephew for ice cream, we waited 10 minutes past 11am and the store still did not open. I tried calling the store twice and no one answered. No sign on the window to let customers know you're either closed for some reason or will open late. Not a good experience. We went somewhere else.

The watermelon is to die for wonderful. Perfect for a warm day. My dad enjoyed the cherry chunk ice cream. Everyone is friendly. They sell dog ice cream, if you bring a canine. Fun treat!

First time trying Handel's. Most definitely recommend. The ice cream is delicious and the service was quick despite the long line.

The ice cream at Handel's is always excellent and meet expectations, however, during my visit this time around, the service and customer accommodation was seriously lacking. Over the years, I've been to Handel's near my home in Laguna Niguel numerous times, yet after one trip to this specific Riverside location, the service was so terrible that I will not be returning ever again and will stick with the more service oriented locations. The one who assisted my wife and I was not only denying our request to purchase the waffle bowl with our one scoop of ice cream, which we stated that we would've been more than happy to pay any extra charge for. However, not only were we told that we cannot purchase one for an extra charge, yet she went on to tell us we MUST purchase three scoops of ice cream at minimum to be able to order the waffle bowl option. Both actions that I've never experienced nor heard of at any other locations. I ended up ordering the one scoop of ice cream in a cup, but when she returned, I was given my ice cream in a lid with a spoon and no napkins, instead of the requested cup. Again, something I've never experienced before at any other Handel's locations. Will not be returning. One star because Handel's makes great ice cream. Would've given zero stars for the experience and no attempt to ask a manager to see if any exceptions could've been approved.

The last 2 times I been here during the past month or two it's been meeeh. A new girl at the window looked hella confused when I wanted to pay. I paid with a $50 and she looked scared to take it. She went to ask someone and took forever so I stopped another worker and told her if she can ring me up cause new homegirl was lost. She took my $50 and gave me my change. I'm assuming the other girl didn't know how to do math and that's why she "didnt know" if she could take my bill. Anyways I get the same new girl scooping my ice cream on my 2 visits and she needs better training. For the price I paid the scoops should have been better. I've been to this place numerous times and employees who know what they're doing scoop waaaaay better than she did. Her scoops were super small and messy. If I get her again and she scoops like that again. I will ask for my money back and not take the ice cream. Or better yet ask someone else to scoop it for me. I pay good money and I should get the right size of scoops.

Great product but had to wait 50 minutes in line for 2 pints and 1 quart...$30!! Took another 10 minutes to pack my order. Only 2 staff for a Sunday night is NOT enough!

I'm from Los Angeles so I've been going to Handels near Del Amo for a while. Been in Riverside since October and Handels followed me. It's the same at every location. A long line and great ice cream. If you don't wanna wait call in or order to pickup on DoorDash. If you're worried about what flavors to try just get a 4 scoop sampler. Enjoy!

Today was my 3rd time trying handel's, and honestly prob the worst experience out of the 3. The last two times we had a blonde male serve us. 10/10. this time around, it wasn't even that busy but they also used window 6 for in person orders (it's for online/delivery orders usually). and the brunette male at window 6 sucked. barely passed us the small strawberry cheesecake chunk cone, and the stack wasn't even steady. the scoop on top almost fell off before my boyfriend could get a lick in. and mine was barely any better. i got a small black cherry cone- barely any cherry chunks. the strawberry cheesecake chunk my boyfriend got- had a total of 3 cheesecake pieces. very disappointing this time- the brunette needs more training

Love the ice cream here and the service! Way better tasting than Dairy Queen in my opinion. Ice Creamfeels light to me creamy extremely tasty rich smooth texture. I have been getting the sampler box everytime I go there so I get a chance to taste all the flavors they have.

Best ice cream ever!!!! The line may get long BUT it moves SUPER fast and all the young people working there have great customer service they are always smiling! The Mud Pie, Bananas Cream Pie is to die for!! So excited this is close by! Fast, friendly fly service and delicious and so many many many flavors to choose from!!!!

Wow! This ice cream place is so good! So many flavors to choose from, good prices, good service and ambiance. I truly see why I have heard so much about handles since it opened! Definitely give a try! I will definitely be back!

ice cream is not made fresh daily like they advertise. employee literally stated the "ice cream makers" did not come in today. lol what??? so hownis their ice cream made "fresh" daily???? liars

I 100% love this ice cream. It's the best in the world. The thing that drives me crazy is the scope consistency. I have been to 6 different Handles in the SoCal area. I always get the medium scoope and at some locations the medium and small look the same. Some locations like the new Glendora location does a GREAT JOB. I just went to this Riverside location and by far this was the WORST scooping I have ever seen. When the worker gave me the ice asked again if it was a medium and they confirmed. I understand its silly to complain about, but just be consistent. The ice cream was great and I guess I have to say Thank you for less calories.

While their hurricanes were good, it was the portions for the scoops that disappointed my kids. We have gone to another one in Surprise, Az and their portions is more than enough. They need to learn to increase their portions. The downside is that there's no going in and all are outside.

Delicious every time! Found this place in Palm Desert while on vacation. So happy that we have one in Riverside now.
